Skinny Pants is the third and final book in the Happy Pants series by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff.
Nurse Macie Franklin had long ago accepted that she would never be like her skinny best friends. She’d tried numerous diets, she ate healthy and she worked out regularly. But she just couldn’t seem to shed the extra pounds. Macie loved her life, her family and her friends. She was a great nurse and she loved helping people. But she was tired of being friend zoned by men that she was attracted to. It was after one of the doctors at the hospital where she worked embarrassed her with his comments, that she decided it was finally time to make a change. She’d tried to lose weight by taking care of herself with diet and exercise. Now it was time to consider getting rid of the weight a different way.

It was on this night that she was feeling pretty low which was completely uncharacteristic for her, that she might have had a couple or so glasses of wine. And in her slightly intoxicated state she might have made an online profile on a dating site. And the picture she posted of herself might not have actually really been her but a much skinnier woman. She immediately met Dr. J. Love and they exchanged several messages. He sounded like a great guy but then again, she was a little tipsy. Much to her shock, when she visits the surgeon at her hospital to discuss weight loss surgery, in walks the man she was messaging with last night according to the pictures he sent. Dr. J. Love himself.
“How could he or any man love her for what was inside if they couldn’t get past the exterior wall?
Dr. Jack Reed had his heart broken two years ago when his wife who was also his childhood best friend and the woman he had given his whole heart to, left him for another woman. He felt like his entire marriage had been a lie. He didn’t know if he could ever trust a woman again. Truthfullness was everything to him, especially after what had happened. Then in walked Macie to his examination room. He instantly felt like he wanted to get to know her better. That she was different than the other women he knew.

These two’s start was complicated to say the least. Macie had connected with Jack via her online fake profile. The picture wasn’t really her but the words were. If Jack found out she had lied to him, he would never forgive her after what he’s been through. But she knows herself well enough that she’s not going to be able to live with the lie. It will eat away at her until she tells him.

The attraction was immediate between these two. But they both still needed some fixing before they could commit to any sort of relationship between them. Jack had to get over his ex. He still carried so much anger and betrayal. And Macie needed to learn to really love herself. She needed to feel like her outside was just as beautiful as her inside. Do these two even stand a chance together?
Then there are those magic Happy Pants Café cookies. Jack is adamant that he doesn’t believe in the foolishness of the cookies bringing true love within seven days to those who eat them.

I felt like this book was different than the previous books in the series. It dealt with something real that we all suffer from at one time or another, accepting and loving ourselves as we are. I feel like it also deals with forgiveness. That you have to forgive those that have hurt you in the past before you can truly move on. And you have to be able to forgive the people you love. That no one is perfect, we all make mistakes. The problem here is that Macie and Jack made so many mistakes in the beginning that they definitely had a lot to forgive each other for.

I have loved this entire series. It’s been so much fun. And I will never look at a smiley face cookie and not think of it. This was the perfect ending. I loved the way the author wrapped it all up. Or is it really the end? Only Miss Luci from the Happy Pants Café and Mimi Jean really know the answer to that.

Apart from having the worst book slump ever I think I'm also suffering from review slump, is that even a thing?
I just remember they spent almost the whole book without being a couple or sleeping together and the pathetic heroine falling in love with a man that hadn't even kissed her yet.
Oh and hero wasn't over his ex wife.

What’s not to love about a sweet romance that involves humor, heart and COOKIES? Add a little too much wine, an online dating service and several “Oh, crap,” moments, a few “What the Heck?” paragraphs, not to mention laugh-out-loud dialogue and without a doubt, you know you have fallen into another Mimi Jean Pamfiloff tale!
SKINNY PANTS is going to tickle your fancy, warm your romantic heart and offer up a prayer to the gods that women can finally learn to love themselves for who and what they are, no matter their shape or size!
Macie is the woman who always ends up in the friend zone. She’s a little overweight, but fit, intelligent, giving, caring, cool under pressure. She has true friends, is an excellent, compassionate nurse, BUT, she is looking for love and here is where things get verrrrry interesting!
It seems that after a couple of glasses of bubbly, her fingers did the walking over the keyboard on an adult chat/dating site. So maybe the picture she used wasn’t actually her, and maybe, just maybe she was pretty hot and heavy online with Dr. J-Love with the razor-sharp abs, chiseled face, it wasn’t like she was going to actually meet him…Last. Famous. Words.
Macie decides it’s time to get drastic with her weight, so why not go to the best surgeon around? The new guy at the hospital, Dr. Jack Reed…or as she knows him, Dr. J-Love. Holy heart palpitations, his picture online doesn’t do him justice, but he is now all business. And why would this Adonis need a dating site? Could it be that even he knows the pain of heartbreak and loneliness? And what is Macie supposed to do now?
Jack DOES know the pain of betrayal, divorced and bitter, the last thing he wants is a romantic entanglement, but Macie, with her zest for life, quick wit, sincerity and down-to-earth attitude is just the kind of “friend” he needs, until he sees her bite into one of those special cookies from the Happy Pants Cafe. Can you say, Doc, you are an ass, jumping to the totally wrong conclusion? NOT that Macie isn’t hiding some big secret…it just has nothing to do with the cookie!
Hang on tight for the “ride of miscommunications” of your life as Macie and Jack straddle the rails of life downhill without brakes! Lies by omission, arrogant pig-headedness and life-threatening flames make this love story a kaleidoscope of comedy and a collage of pain as two souls make affairs of the heart about as jumbled and abstract as a Picasso painting.
Face it, there is NEVER a dull moment when Mimi Jean Pamfiloff wields her mighty pen!

Once again, Mimi has proved what a versatile author she is. Whether it’s dark mysteries, dysfunctional deities, or in this case, matchmaking tinged with a bit of the supernatural, she always manages to deliver something that is wholly unique with characters you can’t help but fall in love with.
In what I hope is not the last book in the Happy Pants series, we meet Macie and Jack. Two people that are so perfectly matched that the universe pushes them together time and time again through the oddest series of schemes and coincidences. Whether by accident or design, these two meet and discover that, regardless of outward appearances, the people they are deep down were made for one another.
Macie reminded me very much of Lily from Fugly, another one of my Mimi-favorites. While the outward appearance of both of these women may not typify conventional beauty, it housed a quick intellect, a good heart, and a strong character. They are both women who know who they are, and are not about to let anyone devalue their self-worth. Macie is such a beautifully written, well rounded character that I couldn’t help but want her for my best friend. Or want her attitude for my own! She was smart, blunt, and fiercely loyal to her friends. She knew herself and what she wanted and she went for it, and I loved watching the transformation in her, both physically and mentally.
Jack took a few more minutes for me to fall in love with. He was handsome, but very direct. He was honest and trustworthy, but he was carrying around a lot of emotional baggage I was glad to see him shed in order to come out of his shell. He let his misery get the better of himself for too long, and he needed someone like Macie to give him a wakeup call.
Most of all, what I loved about this book was the way Mimi didn’t take herself seriously. She communicated an important message, but in a way that was charming and laugh-out-loud adorable. She weaved in characters from other stories so I got to see long lost friends, and she made references to other books to keep fans on their toes. I don’t know how she does it with each book she writes, but she has a style that is so perfectly her own that I’d know it anywhere.
If you’re in the mood for a feel-good, adorable treat, you need to check this one out. Although third in a series, it can certainly be read as a stand alone.
And Mimi, I hope your reference to a new deity was a prelude of more to come….I could definitely go for reading a book about the “God of Man Asses”!

I loved it so so much. I loved Macie! She’s an incredible heroine. Hers and Jack’s story had me hooked and smiling throughout. I’m thrilled about this book coming out! It has MJP's signature twist, the crazy, meddling Ms. Lucy, great characters from past books, great new characters I’d love to get to know, AND cookies!

Favorite Quotes:
Like I’m lower than a cockroach wearing stained underwear.
She wanted a man who was romantic, but not needy. She wanted someone who would love her forever even when she was ninety, wrinkled, and peed just a little when she sneezed because she’d had beautiful children with him.
Honey, we are all attracted to him. Reed is complete husband material. And bean-flicking material. And heartbreak, fan-club, tramp-stamp material.
When you do see him, just remember that he’s only hot on the outside. On the inside, he’s covered in scabs and festering boils.
My Review:
This was my first time experiencing the talented Ms. Pamfiloff’s creatively witty word skills, and I am giddy with delight and bawdy glee over my discovery. I enjoyed this cleverly amusing and engaging tale from beginning to end and had marked several pages of favorite quotes, although many of them could not be used due to Macie’s amusing filthy and creative use of profanity. I adored the robust Macie; she was spunky, endearing, and highly relatable. The storylines were fresh and entertaining with more unexpected curves than Macie’s ample shapeliness. Ms. Pamfiloff’s writing was highly entertaining, thoroughly engaging, and just plain fun. I could kick myself for my careless sloth in taking so long to notice her work. I have been remiss and greedily covet her words.

ARC REVIEW
Last book of the Happy Pants series. MJP stated previously and in the author's notes at the end that she has more new series in line... but I can wait years for one more book if I have too. Lucia's matchmaking hyjinks are legendary and now with Taylor slowly taking over for Lucia she has said Jack Reed will be her last match. But has Lucia taken off more than she can chew with this stubborn but sexy plastic surgeon?
Macie was fine with her life until everything in her life started to point out and make a big deal about her weight. After a wine induced night of stupid mistakes including creating a fake dating profile and meeting Dr. J-Love, a decision she regrets immediately and deletes her profile. Macie is discouraged the fact that her fake profile got so much attention because the skinny model she picked to represent Catrina. Top it all off with the argument she got in with her best friends has Macie reevaluating her life. As a nurse she knows all the problems she can face in her future especially now that she's over 30 and her metabolism is slowing down and it's not like she isn't healthy she eats right and walks every weekend; overall, Macie decides for health reasons she doesn't want to be fat the rest of her life and starts to look into gastric bypass. One of the two surgeons who has to sign off on her surgery is new and apparently very sexy, very professional, and he's also Dr. J-Love.
After learning of his wife's lies and ultimate betrayal Jack wasn't sure he was ready to trust his love with someone else but meeting Macie made him want to try and it's something he wants to do on his own without the help of a magic cookie. Macie automatically assumed Jack friend-zoned her, because why would a guy like Jack want a girl like her. By the time Macie realizes the truth she feels even worse about the whole Catrina thing. As perfect as they seem for each other circumstances just keep getting in the way, maybe they aren't meant for each other after all.
Overall, it's another emotional rollercoaster ride full of humorous situations and fantastic relatable characters. I love when MJP slips in her own books so nonchalantly into other books. She also hits the nail on the head with Macie's emotional battle with her weight and once again we see a love story that focuses on learning to love yourself before you can fully love someone else. I'd put this one in the same category with her other book Fugly, potential ugly cry but such a good book and a happy ending.

This was such a fun read but also a little bit of a sad one, because I knew this was the end of a series that I have enjoyed very much. The laughs are plentiful, the sexy times are hot, we have a great story line, and two great characters so honestly there isn't much to not like about this book.

I'm not sure how to rate this book. I like some things very much, others were rather unrealistic and strange.
Macie is an overweight nurse who gave up dating years ago, even though she is only 30 years old.
The men she's interested in don't give her a second look. And in order not to settle for second choice, she has just completely renounced men.
However, one evening under the influence of alcohol she gets weak and logs on to a dating portal - with a fake photo. This can only go wrong - and it does. She meets a gorgeous guy who is instantly fascinated by her fake personality. It gets really uncomfortable when she meets this man the next day in real life. He's the doctor who's supposed to operate her so she finally loses weight.
Dr. Jack Reed is everything Macie is looking for: successful, smart, charming, funny, incredibly handsome and not a man for one night only. There's only one tiny problem: He hates liars.
I liked Jack and I liked Macie. They were great together as friends, even if they are both incredibly blind when it comes to reading each other.
Macy's low self-confidence didn't bother me. She was confident when it came to other things. There was always this little voice in her head that told her she wasn't pretty enough. What woman doesn't know this feeling?
What bothered me and what can't led me give this story more than three stars is this thing with the fake profiles (yes, several). I didn't like the resolution at all. I don't want to spoil at this point. Let me just say: I wish there had been a solution without a strange third person.

A romantic comedy that will give you ALL the feels, Skinny Pants is the (reportedly) final book in Mimi Jean Pamfiloff’s magical & sexy Happy Pants series. And oh what a terrific pair Nurse Franklin and Dr. Reed made once they finally, finally gave in to their attraction.
If you’re a fan of Mimi’s work and have read–and of course enjoyed–her Fugly series, then I think you’ll connect easily with Macie in this story. It touched upon some of the same types of self-doubts and putdowns as what Lily faced. Only with Macie it was about her weight. Now she was no shrinking violet. Nor was she shy or meek. Macie was a kickass heroine who owned her curves and had the kindest, most caring heart you’ve ever seen. Read More

Mimi's style is very refreshing, spots of humor and sarcasm with moments of honest love. Even though this one is a standalone there is a connection to the others, Jack Reed is the brother of Taylor from the previous book. He doesn't believe that a magical happy face cookie could help someone find true love. I love the feelings I get from this book and the subtle twists and turns had me smiling and laughing. Although this is a fictional romance I like how Mimi wove a true event into the book, the devastating fires of the Napa Valley. Just a reminder of how well she writes and researches for her stories. Thanks to Mimi for my early copy, my review was written voluntarily.

Even the strongest among us has moments of weakness and insecurity
Skinny Pants is story packed full of mixed signals, missteps, regrets, laughs, possibility and ultimately hope.
Nurse Macie Franklin is active, smart, self-confident, calm in the face of chaos, and unflappably happy. So how does the local man-whore doctor send her into a spiral of self-doubt?
Macie doesn’t think about her appearance. She exercises regularly, eats healthy, loves life, and works hard. She’s also given up on ever dating. Why? She happens to be overweight, and constantly landing in the friend zone of anyone she could find herself attracted to.
After a unusually bad day Macie finds herself unable to let the latest snub from the “Chadster”go. What better way to relax that drink a bottle sparkling wine, drunkenly signs up on a dating app and accidentally catfishes Dr. J-Love and making what could be a real connection. Unfortunately, it’s too late to undo the lie once she meets Dr. Reed in person.
Jack Reed just wants to move on with his life. He’s not looking for a fling he’s looking for the one. Only problem is that he’s not exactly over the deception his ex-wife dealt him. In Macie he finds someone who is caring, easy to talk to and a joy to be around.
How do two damaged individuals find a way past their hang ups and insecurities? Skinny Pants is the fourth and final book in the Happy Pants Café series. This is another of those easy “poolside reads” that although lighthearted, delves into situations that anyone of us could find ourselves in. Jack and Macie are inherently relatable, as you find yourself alternately wanting to smack some sense into them and rooting for them to find their happy ending.
Nothing worth having ever comes easily and Mimi does an excellent job of painting the humanity of her characters with words, wisdom and laughs as they struggle to become who they were meant to be. It’s easy to lose yourself in her world for a while as you laugh, cry, yell, and probably see very real similarities to things in your own life. I know I did.

April 18, 2018This was a great way to end this series! Jack and Maci were great characters that had many things in their lives that they needed to overcome in order to find their love. Jack had his issues from his failed marriage such as trust as well as over coming the failure of the marriage itself. Maci had issue with her self image and confidence. Both of their issues are relatable to the reader as they were both written as strong characters. I thought that at first their story moved slowly but in the end it worked for their story. I liked how the couples from the previous books in the series made a return appearance even if it was small. I enjoyed how Jack and Maci ended up in the end of the book and it was perfect for them. I enjoyed this book from page one and would recommend it to others.

While Mim Jean Pamfiloff's dark and paranormal writings are outstanding her romantic comedies are extraordinary. These lighthearted romances keep you smiling if not laughing outloud. This final book in the Happy Pants Cafe series is no exception.
Macie and Jack are disastrous at every turn. Macie is a warm, generous, carrying spirit who has walled herself off from close relationships other than her best friends. Jack is a talented surgeon whose bitter divorce two years ago has left him cold, callous and distrustful. Mistrust and miscommunications and meddling friends and family end up separating Jack and Macey before they ever really get started. It takes 6 months away from each other to really deal with their own baggage before they can deal with falling in love. But it does happen. Ms Luci ends up planning and scheming her last wedding before she retires from The Happy Pants Cafe.

Heartwarming, fun, quirky, sweet, sexy and thrilling romantic journey filled with passion, heart, longing and true acceptance. Letting go of a painful past and truly embracing who you are inside and out are hard things to do.
DR. JACK REED is charming, sexy, funny and has been burned by the love of his life living a lie for so very long.... NURSE MACIE FRANKLIN is sweet, fun, sassy and is so done with being friend-zoned by every guy she is attracted to. She makes an online dating profile and after hooking the perfect guy decides to make a drastic change to become more like the picture she presents. Only as luck or life would have it she runs smack dab into Dr. perfect in the exam room. Does she come clean??? Loved this emotionally engaging and highly entertaining story and was delighted to visit one of my all time favorite charters Miss Luci from the Happy Pants Café.

Another amazing read by the incomparable Mimi Jean Pamilla. Skinny pants is such a feel good read! In this book we revisit Luci and her shenanigans- the infamously sly matchmaker and owner of Happy Pants Cafe. The new victims of the love cookie, Macie and Jack, do not stand a chance. The whole story is entertaining, beautiful and filled with awe inspiring moments. While of course this is a love story it was also a very poignant journey of self discovery, acceptance and determination. Everything about this book really captivates me. So much so that I finished it in one go. This is supposed to be the last of the Happy Pants Cafe books but my dollar is on Luci. I think we haven't seen the last of her.

Jack is not one to shirk away from things, even when called out, “well, I’m sure you’ve seen giant breasts before. And now you’ve seen most of mine.” His eyes darted to her face, but he didn’t look embarrassed or ashamed..." Sometimes Macie just shocks the heck out of Jack, "he stopped running, and she nearly trampled him. Jack turned to face her. “What are you…? I would never hit you or any woman.” Jack prefers to show his feelings than talk about them, “what are we—” He slammed her up against the tree, covering her mouth with his. His hands went straight for her breasts, and his pelvis pushed forward, grinding into her." I liked this book, I fell in love with Jack.

Both Macie and Jack are flawed characters but also very lovable. It was awesome to read through their journey of self-awareness and finding love. I also liked how Mimi gave us closure, but still left it open to add more books to the series if she chooses too. It was a great ending to a wonderful series. ❤️
Mimi, it was very kind and thoughtful of you to dedicate this book to Lindsay. She was a wonderful person who we all cared about.

I absolutely loved this book. Macie is how I want to be. Full of self confidence and how she stands up for herself, with people that can’t look paste the physical appearance and see what she has to give from the heart. I like Jack eventually, he never had an issue the outside appearance just an issue with trust. I am so happy when Mimi writes books like this and look forward to many more.

I didn't realize that this book is book 3 of a series. I'm drawn to reading it simply because I've been craving for BBW romance and man, I enjoyed this one. Until at some point where the Hero's acting like a pussy. I mean, what is wrong with him? I get that he's scarred by his past but, jeez, I wish he could treat our heroine more gently and with dignity that she deserved. So yeah, good writing, but forced plot. Could be better.

A little torn on this one...while there are things I liked ( Hero was NOT a manwhore!!) there were also things I didn’t. The ending def didn’t feel fleshed out enough and I didn’t get to see the Heros growth. The heroine also annoyed me...
So we’ll call it a split and go with 2.5

I love this series and I am a little sad to see it go. Mimi Jean has a gift of getting you to fall in love with her characters. She can spin a talks like no other. I have cried, screamed, and laughed so hard. The characters are just that relatable. I can’t wait to see what the next series by Mimi will entail.

Skinny Pants is Book 3 in in The Happy Pants Cafe Series but I think it's easily a stand alone. I haven't read the previous books in the series and had no problems connecting with this story.
First of all I want to say that being a larger size woman I really related to Macie. The only difference is that I don't even attempt to be healthy and she's healthy just still a larger size woman. I totally understand the feeling of people looking right threw her or overlooking her due to her size.
After a brutal day of her self esteemed being knocked she gets a little inebriated and signs up on a dating site completely lying about herself.
Imagine her surprise when she walks into an appointment and the doctor is none other than the sexy Doctor J-Love that she has been chatting with.
Dr Jack Reed immediately actually 'saw' Macie. I think Jack is drawn to Macie's realness and her sass (love that girl!). They become friends first and it builds from there. These two are both closed off from personal relationships for entirely different reasons. Marcie is an amazing young lady that has the best caring type demeanor a nurse can possibily have but due to her self esteem being knocked too many times in the past is not receptive to closer relationships than her own friends. Jack's ex-wife really did a number on him that makes him distrustful and a little bitter.
I love how the author slowly builds their relationship. I think the friends to lovers is the best type of relationship to have.
My absolute favorite part is when Jack's stands up for Marcie after another Doctor is very condescending to her about her size. Seriously, I swooned.
Their underlying distrust of others has them being torn apart before they even have a chance.
Now we have to see if Jack can overlook being catfished and if he can if Macie can forgive him for being so callous to her.
This is a wonderful written story that caught drew me in from the very beginning and kept me intrigued until the very end.

We left all out beloved characters from The Happy Pants cafe at the end of Leather Pants in a little bit of a quandary - Miss Lucie wanted to retire from the matchmaking business while Taylor (Tailored for Trouble) attempts to convince her she is the woman for the job. In order to prove Taylor is capable of handling such power she has to nominate a person deserving of their own HEA and find their perfect match. the person she chooses is her relationship shy brother, Jack.
Jack has been badly burned, his wife who was also his best friend for most of his life left him for another woman. Since that point he has become very closed off and thrown himself into his already demanding career as a plastic surgeon, even switching specialities and hospitals in an effort to put the past behind him. Fully aware of Taylor's plans for him, Jack is quite resentful of their interference.
Macie is a wonderful character, on the whole she is happy with who she is, however, her insecurities fuelled by societies expectations of the way we should look knock chunks out of her self esteem. Naturally curvy, Macie has been subjected to snubs and slights based on her size for a long time, resigned to single life and the friend zone - conducting a drunk experiment on a dating sight as a slimmer version of herself she crosses paths and numbers with Dr J-Love. During a moment of self-doubt Macie considers gastric surgery, making an appointment with none other than the illustrious Doctor Reed.
Coincidence upon coincidence brings Jack and Macie together; the humorous crossed wires add to the 'will they, won't they' element within the narrative and to the overall drama within Skinny Pants. However, a random series of events is completely misinterpreted by Jack and creates a rift between himself and Macie. One that can only be fixed by Jack himself.
There is a lot of action and tension throughout Skinny Pants but ultimately it shows that to truly embrace your future you have to be willing to let go of the past ♥

I have read other books by this author, Ms. Pamfiloff, and I just love all her works.
In this book we have Dr. Jack Reed. His ex-wife cheated on him, left him and divorced him. Jack hasn’t t moved on since his ex. He doesn’t trust woman at all, except for his sister. He is a fantastic Dr, but just not that caring about making his life happy with love.
Nurse Macie Franklin, just turned 30, and is more on the heavier side. Her friends are all skinny mini’s who never have to worry about their weight or what they eat. Macie is always choosing the healthy options and working out all the time. However, she just is a bigger size lady.
Nurse Macie thinks she is texting / email Jack from a dating web site under the name Dr J Love. The pictures he sends her are amazing but she doesn’t think he will like her if he finds out she is not the thin model she sent pictures of instead of her real photo.
Jack hates when people lie to him and realize Macie said one small lie and he goes off on her. Who does that?? Jack breaks her heart, and leaves her. What will Macie do? Did Jack realize the cat fishing story Macie come up with?
Will Macie be able to move on from Jack? Will Jack ever be able to trust women again? Will Jack be able to give Macie another chance? Or will Macie be able to give Jack another chance?

Not my favorite Mimi Jean read. Some things I liked, but what I didn't like, I really didn't like. Overall, left me with more a disgruntled feeling than a happy one, so only 2 stars.
Macie (h) is a heavyset nurse who's pretty happy with her life. She's strong, active, in a job she loves, with friends she cares about. The only thing that might make her life more complete would be finding someone to share it, someone who can see past her extra pounds to who she really is. Jack (H) is a recently divorced surgeon, burnt by lies and infidelity, who's looking for a new start working at the same hospital. When they meet, Macie recognizes him from a night of drunken online chatting, when she created an account with a fake photo. Jack sees a potential friend, while Macie starts falling in earnest. Can they ever clear the air and get on the same page? Or will Macie's lies be what breaks them apart?
It's a Mimi Jean book, so a lot that I liked. Pretty well edited, which is always appreciated. A fun sense of humor, including some fun self-referential bits (Vampire librarians!! One of my favorite series!). Mostly enjoyable characters, and a pair of leads I can support as a couple (even if they were completely oblivious to what the other meant or how their own actions could be interpreted). Part of a series, but can be read as a standalone (I did). Previous characters do make cameos though.
So what went wrong?
Both the leads just needed to get over themselves. Macie jumped into things a bit fast, and in the whole honesty thing was kinda self sabotaging, always talking herself out of coming clean even when she knew Jack would hate the lying more. But it was really Jack that frustrated me. He was full of double standards and just seemed to have too much baggage. Yes, Jack had been burned - badly. But it had been two years since the divorce, and he was still angry enough to scream at Macie in public over a cookie, potentially leaving her stranded in another city, and refuse to listen to any explanation from her. He's obviously not over things. But it doesn't seem like he's trying all too hard to move on either. And when Not OK, man, not OK. I suppose that he did grow and move forward through the book, but it all seemed to happen during the months they were apart - you know, the part that gets kinda skimmed over? Not satisfying.
Too much catfishing. The first reveal was a bit of a surprise, but then again later?
I never liked Ms. Luci. I don't know how she is in the other Happy Pants books, but here she was annoyingly meddlesome and pushy. I'm sorry, but if someone is saying that they are not ready to be in a relationship, then even if you've met someone perfect for them, then maybe you should listen. As it was, it just pushed the leads through a lot of months of arguing and heartache that might have been avoided. It wasn't like Jack and Macie weren't connecting on their own! The relationship could have been permanently broken because Jack was pushed too far before he was ready, and Macie could have very easily not forgiven him at all. Seriously, it felt like Macie was some sort of experimental sacrifice so that Jack could get matched up. Didn't seem like Luci cared if Jack tore Macie up in the process (seeing as, has been said, that Jack was getting pushed before he was ready). Not a likable trait in a character, no matter what her motives are.
The climax was ridiculous.
The ending was just weird.
Mostly 3rd person POV from Macie's view, though we do get a few chapters from Jack's side (though not nearly enough to really relate to him, IMHO). No love triangles or OW/OM drama. While no cheating (the couple's not really together for most of the book anyway), there's lots of discussion of it and lots of lie-driven angst. Not her most likable lead, and not her most satisfying ending, but Mimi Jean still manages to make it a decent read. Still, the weird ending, driven by the annoyingly pushy side character, and a lack of growth from the leads (especially Jack)... just left me unsatisfied and a bit grumpy. Can't rate it higher than 2 stars. HEA (well, at least it's a wedding - no epilogue for down the road). No cliffhangers - last in the series.
Would I read more by this author? Yes. I've liked some of her other books, so one less-that-satisfying read isn't going to turn me off. I'm not sure about more in the series, because (as I might have mentioned), I find Ms. Luci obnoxiously pushy, no matter what she was aiming for.
