After she is successfully crowned King of Britain and vanquishes those opposed to her rule, Britt thought life would settle down and she could peacefully pretend to be the real King Arthur and search for the lost Round Table. However, her enemies aren’t cowed yet. King Lot sends his beautiful wife, Morgause, and his four sons to Camelot as ambassadors, but Britt doubts their good will when knight after knight falls in love with the foreign queen.
Merlin reveals that Morgause has cast an enchantment on the knights of Camelot, an enchantment he cannot break. As a result, Britt is betrayed by some of her closest knights and becomes an outcast in her own kingdom. To win back her men, Britt will have to make costly sacrifices, survive attempts against her life, and gain the loyalties of Gawain—the eldest son of King Lot and Queen Morgause.

I love to write funny, clean stories with strong characters. Books like that are among my favorite to read so naturally I love writing stories like that as well. My philosophy is that life is tough, so books should be something that makes you relax and laugh!
July 2023 Update: Okay. Soooo…this series isn’t for me anymore. 😔 It’s really sad, but I was a different reader when I first read these books three years ago and now they just don’t do it for me.
So this one was always my least favorite due to the whole enchanted knights plot line and I still didn’t like it upon reread. Britt also seems to do no wrong and is always right and honestly she annoyed me a heck of a lot more then the first time I read this! Merlin also flops from good to annoying and the banter between the two I just found really petty rather than funny.
The action scenes are great though and some parts between characters I liked but then an annoying part would come up and, well, so much for that, lol.
Not a bad series and I would still recommend others try it, but I just don’t think it fits me or my reading tastes anymore and I will be stopping my rereading of the series here.
Original October 2021 Review: A good follow up! It’s nice to see Britt easing into her new role more and more as she adjusts and keeps moving forward as Arthur. I really grew to like Merlin even more in this book and really understand him a bit better then in book one.
I really liked what Britt says in response to a woman about how just because that person was a woman it was suddenly okay for her to attack men and I liked it being put in as yes neither gender should have the “right” to attack the other in any way but instead work together and treat each other equally.
The end fight was my favorite part, and I’m interested to see where things go from here.
‼️Content‼️
Language: freakin’
Violence: fighting with weapons and magic (not detailed); assassins attack a character; a hunting party
Drug/Alcohol: characters drink ale and wine
Other: time travel; magic; a wizard; faeries; a woman uses enchantments on men
It is true that there is something glorious about a rightful male sovereign. He makes orders and is instantly obeyed; he is the best and brightest of all his peers, and he rules with that distinction. But a female ruler… she inspires. She makes her men feel like they can be better men; she makes them feel trusted and warm.
There is more character development than there was in the first book. Britt is slowly starting to not be selfish in wanting her old life. She is starting to understand change isn’t the worst.
The story also picks up. I wasn’t bored and I wasn’t skimming through. I really did enjoy this book more than the first. I hope that the rest of the series builds the world up better and doesn’t fall short.
I last read the first book in this series back in 2017. I don't even think I even wrote a review for it either. So it was kind of weird when I found out I never continued with the series until now. Not that I regret it, but I didn't really want to redive back into the first book.
So, with zero hesitation, I jumped straight into Enchanted. Luckily for me, I didn't feel lost or confused with what was going on in this world. Which, yeah, can seem pretty weird since it has been a while since I read the previous book but it was very easy to pick things back up again.
Britt is still living the life of King Arthur but she has a new obstacle to overcome. Morgause. She kind of seems like an Enchantress because she's using magic in order to persuade Britt's people to her side. To her annoyance, Britt doesn't quite like how her guards are acting in her presence. Especially after she just got these people to join her.
It also took her a while to realize that they were trying to fight this magic. Once she finally stopped moping around and drinking wine constantly, she went after Morgause to save her people. A little too late in my eyes but everyone forgave her for taking her sweet time to figuring out the puzzle. It also took Morgause pretty long to realize that Britt was a girl and not actually King Arthur.
She quickly changed her tune about wanting to take the throne and was all about girl power. In the end, not sure what the next book will bring me but I'm hoping it doesn't take me 4 more years to dive into it.
what can I say that I didn't say in my review about the first book? This book continues the story of Britt as King Arthur, more characters from the legends appear. These books just entertain me so much. It's not the deepest story telling but I don't need that right now. I'm busy at work and really stressed out and I want books that are quick and easy and just kind of ... wholesome? No that's not the right word. They're just not particularly serious without being ridiculous. Anyway. These books make me happy right now and I laughed out loud a couple of times. What more do I really want. Also, I really enjoyed the twist around Morgeaus. That was very fun. King Arthur's legend is such a sausage fest of good guys, this was a really nice change up. :) Will continue reading.
OMG! I can't believe I'm the first to review this book here in Goodreads. What can I say? I love it more than the prequel! The story continues after Britt and her knights won the war against King Lot. However, another problem arrived at their kingdom when Morgause and her son visits King Arthur.
The sequel delivers more greatly than the prequel. For once, Britt is no longer a mere puppet of Merlin. Her actions and decisions are now highly respected and I admired them. She gained the trust and loyalty of her knight all by herself, without the help of Merlin anymore. I think her character grows more in this book and she's now a better inspiration than on the first book. As Ywain have quoted:
He makes you want to be a better person and to see the world the way he does. Our King, he's a geat man.
As for Merlin, he's no longer the bossy counselor who sees Britt as a simple woman from the future, thus not entitled for decision-making. He now values and let her do decisions, he trusts her more than the other. He guides her, if needed but most of the time he allows her to think for herself. I also like that my ship is sailing smoothly on this book and we have a glimpse that there could be a romantic feelings between them.
We were introduced with more characters in this book. I think Morgause is supposed to be Morgana seeing that Merlin and Morgause doesn't seem to get along. Plus, Morgause has magical power as well. I love how the two bickers over simple things and throwing insult regarding their age.
To sum it up, this book is great sequel of Britt and her knights. Again, it's just a simple story but something you will definitely enjoy. I can't wait for the next book and the synopsis says that Guinevere and Lancelot will be present. I am hoping for more Merlin and Britt romantic tandem.
I read Book 1 and bought the whole series, loved the continuing of this story and Britt! Loved how she handled Queen Morgause in this one. Britt is such an active king and has no trouble winning over loyal members of her knights. Merlin always makes me laugh with his banter and that dog is so great :)
This book is such a good follow up to the first book. In this book, Britt really begins to step into her roll as king and is determined to be a king in her own right and not just Merlin's puppet.
This whole series is amazing and a must read for anyone who loves the King Arthur legends!
Note: The audiobook of the full series is really well done! Highly recommend!
**Review of the series as a whole rather than the individual books.**
KM Shea lets you know right up front what her stories will be. They will be some type of fantasy (usually), end happily and neatly tied up and are meant as a break from life rather than to be deep thinking. This series delivered exactly what was promised.
This is more of a series of novellas except for the last book that is full length. It's a fun story reimagining the King Arthur Legend. In it, a young woman named Britt is brought from modern day back in time after she touches the legendary sword. It seems the actual King Arthur has run away and Merlin places a spell on the sword to bring someone back that has all the needed attributes to fill the role. What he doesn't even consider is to specify the gender in his spell.
The 7 book series details adventures as Britt poses as King Arthur. She goes about finding her round table and the knights that will belong. KM Shea plays with the mythology and has a bit of fun with it. I enjoyed the stories and Britt as well as other characters' evolutions. Sure it could be far fetched at times but I always give fantasy book a lot of leeway. If you need tight plotting and things to make perfect sense then maybe look elsewhere. This series is not meant to stand up to that kind of seriousness. It's simply escapist, fun reading with a story around a strong female character. There is the faintest whiff of romance that doesn't really even manifest until the end and then only trace amounts.
Britt Arthurs was sent back in time and tasked with uniting Britain by pretending to be the legendary King Arthur. When the wife of one of her strongest naysayers shows up unexpectedly at Camelot, Britt is forced to offer her and her sons hospitality. It isn't long before Britt realizes Morgause is enchanting her subjects and loyal knights somehow. She asks Merlin for help breaking the enchantment, but he insists Britt has to do it alone.
Britt spends a good portion of this book wallowing in the fact that her knights aren't as loyal as she believed, but eventually she gets over it. I'm not loving these stories, but they're good enough to keep me reading.
A great continuation to the first book and still after years stands as my top favourite. It consists of more drama than the first book but that it makes it all the more funnier, it really makes me laugh. Always.
This edition continues to build upon the first book and the legendary king. Britt makes some interesting choices as she accepts that for the time being, she's in a coma induced dream. The knights are interesting.
3.5 stars I liked this book better than the first with fun, swashbuckling adventure. (I did think the enchantress’s change of heart was a little sudden.)
I don't know why but I am so addicted to this series. There's a tiny hint of possible romance with Merlin and it does not get in the way of the plot at all. Yay for that! The heroine really knows how to get down to business and gets things done. Britt is absolutely my favorite character and I love how she ends up being awe inspiring without knowing it. The things she accomplishes sometimes are a bit unbelievable to the point of me raising an eyebrow but its fantasy to begin with. Plus Britt is really awesome for a strong female lead so I cant complain. Britt seems almost a little too mature for her age but she still manages to keep her snarky teenage attitude and innocence when she talks. Her relationship with her knights and Merlin is so fun to read. Maybe its because they are all so awed(in love) with her as a guy heh. I really cant wait for the next installment because Lancelot and Guinevere is coming.
note* there are some spelling errors but i didn't mind. except for one part where smelled was spelled smiled.
In what seems to be a different opinion from everyone else on this site, I actually thought that the first book, Enthroned, was better than Enchanted. Rather than being a devious or "enchanting" villain, I found Morgause just plain annoying. She even seemed to lack an actual motive. There were two saving graces that compensated for this not - so evil villain. One, the introduction of Gawain, and two,the fact the there was actually some character development on the part of Britt. Gawain just reminded me of a puppy dog. He really wasn't that much of a strong character. He was just so sweet and innocent that I feel the need to coddle him. Second, there was actually character development. Britt actually realized that she has to work to maintain loyalty (I think the author realized that too). Merlin again was my favorite character. I find myself wanting to see a bit of a relationship form between him and Britt. Go Berlin! ;) They even have a great couple name. This is a light read, much like to first book. Nice and simple, and an overall good read.
This book was so much more interesting than the previous one! I am glad I was not discouraged. K.M. Shea finally freed herself from movie's references and started to write what she imagined. The difference is enormous. We now can start to see a real King, not afraid of standing up to Merlin. Merlin himself is more human now. I expecially loved how Britt is founding a relationship of trust and friendship, respect and camaraderie with her knights. They not only serve her, but know she will save them if need arise. I really enjoyed Morgause and the plot twist at the end. Go girl power!
one star is too generous. 0.1 star is more fitting.
alright, i came up with a proper excuse of why i'm keeping on reading this pish posh kind of story: 'i want to exercise my reading speed, that's why i read this' HAPPY? yes, i'm quite contend myself with this. and why am i still making a review full of bad words about it? 'it is to show my understanding of the book even though i read as fast as possible' alright, enough with my internal monologue, let's start with the review.
two words to describe this book (and i have a feeling, this whole series): utterly stupid. it was a book that is used to numb a person's mind after doing tons of calculus. sadly, i've been doing tons of calculus on exam week, hence the reading of mind-numbing books. the wording was poorly arranged and sometimes hard to understand (did she gave this book to editor before they published it?!)
Britt was like Merlin's bloody barbie doll, pretty, obedient, useless, and no brain but very stubborn. it was like she couldn't make her own decisions and gladly being bossed around. she had as much character in her as a plastic doll (well, what do you expect from a barbie doll?)
like the previous robyn hood series, everyone was an idiot. like i said, reading something idiotic was mind-numbing. the scene where Griflet asked (forcefully) to be knighted was absolutely idiotic. he was idiotic, britt was idiotic, merlin was idiotic. his cousin (whoever his silly name was) was also idiotic.
it was also utterly ridiculous when they insist on calling her son, king, he, my lord, and other masculine calling. so many things that supposed to be interesting was left unexplained while instead, this book drone on and on and on on useless kindness and dramatic emotional (annoying) scenes and throwing loyalties around. and it was FUCKING obvious that Morgause was a witch and she was trying to ruin everything by bewitching the knights, but oh no, apparently, no one cares so no one do anything about it! wow! WOW! Britt only just realized how bad her influence was in the last 2 chapters of the book. what a brilliant king. and i dont understand why king arthur was so legendary, and this book didn't help AT ALL! the conflicts were so petty and boring, just another day as a king puppet and tons of snoozeville politics.
never again i will read this story. the only K. M. Shea's book that i will read after this is probably the court something and Angelique's story but i think i already know how the lead FEMALE's characteristics are. kind, brave, think low of herself, hate killing, hate bloodshed, stupid, boring, flat, blablabla... mood killer🥱😴

I started reading this because of all the 5 star reviews. I love Middle Age historical fiction and time travel IF done well. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s two series that occur in Magiford: Hazel and Killian, the Wizard and Eminence Vampire series and Queen Leila and Lord Rigel, the Fae of the Night Court series. So, I am very disappointed with this King Arthur presentation, it does not allow for the suspension of disbelief for anyone who is remotely aware of the lifestyle of the early Middle Ages.
Time travel stories are tricky to accomplish well and this one just does not come close to that level because detail is everything. How does a young woman with bodily functions that include “going to the bathroom” and having monthly menstruation - considered deeply shameful in early religious society- get away with impersonating a man? That depth of deception should have been part of the story. King Arthur’s story begins in the 6th century; Britt should have been far more bewildered and afraid than she is. The author gives us no clue as to how she is able to be so relaxed about her experience. How do the men take care of her? How does she wash her hair and bathe? A king had personal servants who helped him do that. What experiences in her past gave her the tenacity and stoicism to live among soldiers? As we get into book two (I was hoping it would get more believable) the whole idea she would have a private bedroom in Camelot is not remotely believable. The king’s bedroom was a very public place where nobles jostled for position and power, even the Chamberlain is misrepresented; his position is as the keeper of the Kings “chamber”, especially the bed which would have been dismantled and brought with him when he went to battle. She would have walked among men sleeping on rush covered floors to get to her nightly walks, they would have gathered in the great hall to eat etc etc ... Though the concept is great there were so many missed opportunities to make this story better and believable that I could only give it 2 stars.
I was right- now that the backdrop has been set in book 1 we are moving along at an entertaining and fast clip. I’m still getting into the rhythm of leaping from scene-to-scene rather a steady flow, but somehow it fits here as there is a lot to get through before the series ends.
I didn’t look to see how many pages there were but it’s obviously a swift ride between covers. I tend to reach for lengthy works, but the shorter format works here as each book is just the next step on Britt’s coming into her own- something that would probably be bloated and sluggish if given more than it is.
And it appears Merlin is pulling into the lead candidate for Britt’s future HEA romance and who her lips will soon burn for. Not a shocker, but then given how he talks and acts I have to keep reminding myself they are close in age and that Merlin isn’t some white-bearded ancient ruin giving our young monarch butterflies in her stomach.
While there are parts I really like, each book in this series gets more and more unrealistic in some regard. There's no way a girl, magical sword or not, can best almost every guy in a fight. Swords are heavy and Britt did not come across as a highly trained athlete despite having taking some training classes. I've trained in MMA for 10 years and no matter how good you are, guys almost always overpower you because they are naturally bigger and stronger and have more endurance. Add a heavy sword into the mix and it gets even more advantageous for them. Sadly, because of this, Britt's character and the world wasn't believable to me. It seemed overall very plastic and I was unfortunately not enchanted.
I loved this whole series! I got the first book free somehow, and was totally hooked. To be clear, when I saw the title and heard the synopsis I totally eye rolled. Really -King Arthur is a girl and time transported?!! But then I read it and I LOVE the series. The twists from the original story were great- a sexy Merlin? It took some getting used to, but now #yesplease. And sometimes when life is hard or I’m dealing with conflict, I think “what would Brit Arthurs do?” I highly recommend the whole series.
Britt is bewitching in this book. After her enemy’s wife enchants most of her court, she finally realizes she must fight enchantment with her loyalty to them. After gaining Morgause’s sons allegiance and winning back her knights, Britt’s ‘secret’ is uncovered by Morgause who becomes one of her allies. Read on to discover more about Lot’s plots and Merlin’s strengths.
Even though Britt managed to win the war against King Lot, she won't have time for rest. A new enemy shows their face and Britt has all her hands full. With this one.
A wonderful written second book. The Characters start to develop in the situation they find them self in (and I don't mean just Britt) and secrets come to light. And maybe there is the start of something... I am not quite sure. Love the book. Next.
This was better than the first. The story and the characterization gets better.
I think this was where we meet Cavall who is amazing. We also meet Morgause, and it was really funny to see how quickly they went from enemies to besties when she finds out King Arthur is actually a girl. We also get to meet her children, especially Gwaine and Agravaine. It was nice to see Merlin growing to trust Britt to do her kingly duties and not actually use her as a puppet king.

Here is a second adventure of our beloved Britt. She is one of a kind lass, really.
I enjoyed this adventure as much as the first one, I would even say, I might enjoyed it a little more. Since the story is well planted and we just had to continue in the epicness. There is twists and turns that don't disappoint. You would be right to continue Britt's story!
The story and my appreciation for the charters only grows. My only criticism (wish) is that it were longer.
Thankfully I have the third downloaded and ready.
“You will be a great knight I can tell. I want you to be a victorious hero and triumphant warrior. I want you to go on and do great things so everyone knows how wonderful... are.”
Entire series review: At first it was slow, but then I couldn’t put it down. It definitely had ups and downs, but it was a fun and clean read. Had a few slow moments where I thought I would quit mostly because I wanted to know if the love interests ended up together. The end was a very interesting twist.
Another great installment of this series. I enjoyed getting to know the characters better and seeing more of the Arthurian lore pulled in. I look forward to reading more books in this series.
I’m really enjoying this series! Love Arthur and enjoying getting to now her knights. Trying to guess ahead some parts but I keep getting surprised. Excited about the next book.
