The rescue dog in the middle of the book with a 9/11 connection was the one that touched me the most as a reader and pushed it into the 4 , not 3 rating. The arc of history is long and these simple stories of working animals doing their part gives a welcome bit of perspective on conflict and war and human nature. A better than average, real life, picture book.
Okay, I only half-read this book, but I'm giving it away now so no more time to finish it. The stories that I did read where both enlightening and endearing and only made my love for animals grow.
