It’s just him against the world until he meets and helps Ashlon when she too was down and out. A good girl with problems of her own, Ashlon understands him in a way that nobody else cares to. She vows to do all she can to help him the same way that he helped her when nobody else would. Or will the devil continue to break and take him under? Certified tear-jerker based on a true story. ”You could always go buy another box, but broken crayons still colored.”
A powerful story of redemption. The main character’s journey shows that your past really doesn’t have to govern your future. The transparency in the author’s note was pretty inspiring.

Broken in Pieces

This was my first read by this author. I was immediately drawn into Devin's story. Devin was a famous rap star. He fell upon hard times financially and it took an emotional and physical toll on him. It was surprising to see how people he had helped now turned their backs on him. A stranger seemed to care more about his well being.
This story showed that all that glitters isn't gold. When you see a celebrity you assume that there life is very glamorous. We learn that looks are often deceiving.
Devin turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with his issues. That only led to more complex issues. I could feel Devin struggling to come out of the dark and rebuild his life as a man, father and artist. When he was at his lowest he received guidance and encouragement from an unlikely source in a more unlikely place.
The novel was based on a true story. The author shared that he was fighting some of the same demons as Devin. I hope that writing this book was therapeutic for him and that he was able to get control of his addictionsThank you for being so vulnerable and sharing your story. I look forward to continuing on this journey with part 2.

True to life story that had me hooked from beginning to ending. Predictable because of life’s journey, entertaining because of the relatable reality of the situations that were written about. Looking forward to part to see how this journey of life unfolds.

I enjoyed reading this book. It leaves you with a strong message while helping you understand that your environment is not what makes you. There were some grammatical errors towards the end of the story however it does not stop the flow. You are able to follow the characters and develop a closer feeling for the protagonist.

This book was deep and drop a lot of knowledge. Beautifully written. There is a lot of people fighting off demons, and this book not only provided and took you on a journey of deliverance but took you on a spiritual journey as well. This book was truly amazing. The whole story line, the rise and fall, how people including your own family will treat you and your so called friends that are only friends with you because of what you can do for them. I cant let the greatest part of the book go without mentioning it but the way the black man is lifted up in this book. It speaks volumes. Especially when you have a black man that is an alpha male. Society will try it's best to break him down by any means necessary. But this book illustrates how families are reunited and the black woman standing by her man through thick and thin. Its amazing how when the right person is placed in your path by God, you are able to live the life God intended for you to live all along. I'm about to order part 2 of this book! Then ending had me crying real tears! There are some grammatical errors, but the story line of this book exceeded my expectations. I never felt strong emotions like this from a book!

This was a very good book. I knew it was going to be good from the first page. David had a way of putting his words together on a page and the story just takes you there and it’s a most enjoyable ride. He told this story like he was sitting right next to me. I appreciate him and his truth in this book. The love that was shown in this book was just phenomenal to me. Black love at its finest. I finished this book so fast I was upset but it was a damn good read. Great job David

Exceptional Writing

Thank You, So Much for sharing your struggle with depression. I've battled depression and it's the worst. I sought help from a therapist and a psychiatrist, best decision.

Your book was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and well written !!! I loved Devin and Ashlon story line. Plus, the addition of his father and Banny.

Looking forward to reading Broken Crayons Still Color 2

Broken Crayons Still Color, was a good read once I got into it. Lika, his ungreatful baby momma was irritating me the first few pages, causing me to put the book down. Once I past that part the book was actually enjoyable. This book shows that God works in mysterious ways and will always send help when needed.

Good, quick read

This book was a good read. It spoke to a very we'll discuss theme of helping others who don't necessarily deserve it. And how those people will turn their back on you. But having a good sense of discernment and continuing to trust the right people will ultimately be the best route to take.

I don't know where to start with this review bc I can't stop crying , the author's notes was just as good as the book he wrote. And the fact that it was based on true events makes the story that much better. This book is a lesson learned and I would give this book more than 5 stars it left me wanting more.

Wow.... what a powerful story... AS we know... we fall down, and get back up again. Sometimes u have to hot rock bottom in order to see things clearer. David Weaver... Excellent JOB. There are so many women in the world like Ashlon, but she knew her worth, and after receiving that blessing, she got her life. Her daughters father, all that excess and he did nothing... Devin, what can be said, he clearly loved his daughter, and always put positive things in her mind, his father saved his life, he knew his sons heart.. Friends are Friends when you can do something for them, and then become strangers when you cant. Excellent Job.....

Broken Crayons Still Color: Based on a True Story

This book was deep & dealt with issues of not having self 💘. It has some insight to feelings of hopelessness. Using 💊s and 🍸 to try 2 relieve the pains of depression. That does not work. Glad to know the author reached out and wrote this book to help himself & others.

Faith

I love this book and it's characters. This book is about faith, redemption and real love. The characters were so real, I know someone in my life in each and every one of them. Devin is so much like a lot of us, quick to help anyone he can but don't have the support system when times get bad.

Must read.

This is a book everyone can related, especially if you have been broken. Broken doesn’t mean you can’t be repaired. Sometimes when your broken you don’t want to repaired. Have you ever been so tired that you fell into depression. When you was in the position to take care of everyone you did. You may have paid their bills. Loaned money, Dont ask no questions because you was ready to ride or just picked up the phone so you could listen to a person problems. As soon as you fall off none of these people remember everything you done for them was out of loyalty. At that moment you realize everyone in your world was fake.
So who do run to when theirs no one to run to. You haven’t talked to God in awhile but that doesn’t mean you stopped believing in him. You know he will never leave you or forsake you but you chose to walk another pass. What people don’t know that even when your not praying yourself others could be praying for you.
Have you ever helped a stranger because you felt that was the right thing to do even when you didn’t have something. Like giving the shirt off your back. That’s what this main character did. He helped a Angel that appeared down at the moment. He gave Angel the push he/she needed to get where God wanted him/her.
When life break you and it seems like you can’t color in between the line anymore. God shows up and shows out and put people in your life to change your situation. First thing you have to remember is that you have to change yourself first. You have to learn to love all over again because the people who was around you only shown fake love.
In this book the Author talked about Dont no one cloud sit over the same house forever. The sun will come out but you have to come out of tour darkness to feel the warmth of the sun.
I believe one of his true test was his mindset changing. When his baby momma took his daughter away from him and then resurfaced later with her. He had to remember to forgive and stop letting those strongholds control him. Once he conquered that I knew he was ready but I went through so many of these same situations. You can’t control people places or things but you can control your own actions and destiny.
When his God sent his Angels in the heavens opened for this brother. Even when he didn’t want to believe God made a believed out of him.
The prayer near the end sent tears to my eyes. It was like he was talking to God for me and through me.
If you have strongholds holding you back or feeling depressed and broken please read this books. Broken crayons can still color.

Right on time.

So I purchased this book a while ago but I've been going through so much I couldn't read it. I read your books often so I knew it was just my mental state. However today was a very bad mental day and I said lemme just read take my mind away. Out of all the books I have this one said FINISH ME. and I'm glad I did. It was uplifting very inspiring let me know stay strong and helped me remember "I can do all things through Christ whom strengthens me". I especially appreciate your truth as I wondered who's life am i reading about. Very brave of David to let his readers in on his most vulnerable life experiences. Continue praying and keeping a hold of faith. I'm learning in my journey that is all we need. Life comes and we all face different demons daily that is why Jesus died for us that we may have a chance at life externally. So when the enemy gets busy trying to distract you with depression, drugs , LIFE. you rebuke and resist him. The bible states resist the enemy and he will flee. When depression kicks in you whisper right back to the devil what a liar he is and who's child you are. When you are a kings kid its the devils job to attack so ur on track when he aint being messy and trying to cause dysfunction then you gotta worry. Prayer and writing is your weapon and Fred Hammond told us years ago no weapon formed against us shall prosper and that's in his word. You stay encouraged stay heavily hydrated on the wonders or Jesus christ and continue on my brother. Thank you for such an inspirational read. My eyes hurt but i cant go to sleep without checking out the first few pages of part 2. Happy New Year I pray ur peace and miracles signs and wonders for you.

Best seller

You have a STRONG gift to help others come out of the pits. The way you wrote this book....the emotion in the words. The pictures it painted. They all hit home. You WILL get through this, if you have not already. What keeps me from falling even deeper is to remember the Lord said he will not give us more than we can bare. I repeat that scripture like no other. To me, it brings to life the words "Satan is a lier." If God said he will NOT give us more than we can bare than surely the thoughts that we cannot go on are lies. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy and ultimately that's what he does when we forget the word for a moment and believe a lie. One of the hardest things is knowing exactly what the problem is. Knowing exactly what you need to do however, not knowing where to start. Just like in your story, you have to stop one pill at a time...2 pills at a time. Keep yourself busy in the word and less in your mind. I'm praying for you brother. Although I'm a stranger and a reader, I felt your words wholeheartedly. I felt your cry because, I too, cried with the same contempt. Before you wrote this book, I had read several others. I've looked at your profile and viewed your pictures. Although we hide what we are fighting, many people still see the greatness in us. You shine and you will defeat this! If no one has said it, I LOVE YOU. I have dealt with addictions as well as mental torment. You will overcome.

Rapid fire series of events, gritty & engaging

This is a wild ride of a story, a quick and engaging read with hard truths and hope for the future at the end. I will be reading the sequel next.

The writing is realistic dialogue, sometimes easier to read than others. It explores themes of music, stardom, family, drug abuse, crime, redemption, and more in a style that compelled me to read it every chance I could. An example of the writing:

"He sniffed the coke off of her clit, and his life changed for the worse at that exact moment. It was that moment that he knew that he never wanted to live another minute of his life as a sober man. The pleasure he felt from the cocaine high felt like a warm freshly baked apple pie being placed a half inch away from his tongue, and that feeling never left. The grogginess he'd felt from the alcohol and Percocet turned to energy, and he loved the way his mind felt when he was at that point. He knew that if he didn't ever do coke again, that he was going to table double and triple the amount of pills and alcohol in order to get that feeling back."

To the author, who shared his struggles in the note at the end:

Thank you for your work, for letting a bit of your soul spill out vulnerable in the pages. Stay strong and hopeful, but be gentle to yourself, especially on days when it feels nobody else will. Peace and healing to you.
