From New York Times bestselling author Lexi Ryan comes a sexy new standalone romance about a woman who’d do anything to have a baby and the man who’d do anything to have her…

For my 30th birthday, I’m giving myself the one thing I want most: a baby. Sure, this would be easier if I had a husband—or even a boyfriend—but I refuse to be thwarted by minor details.

When I drunkenly confess my plans to my friends, they convince me to ask Jake Jackson for help. Jake, the best friend who’s been there for me through thick and thin. Jake, who also happens to be smart, funny, ridiculously good looking, and the winner of all the genetic lotteries.

So when Jake takes me up on my request—with the stipulation that we get the job done the old-fashioned way—I’d be a fool to decline.

The only problem? I don’t know if I can separate sex from all the things I feel for this amazing man. If I can’t keep my heart under lock and key, I risk losing the relationship I need the most.

Jake has his own reasons for granting my baby wish. But when I discover his secrets, it could mean the end of us. I have to choose—run or stay and fight for love.

Fall for the Boys of Jackson Harbor in Lexi Ryan’s sexy new contemporary romance series. These books can all be read as standalones, but you’ll enjoy reading them as a series!

Straight Up Love is friend to lover romance story. I am not really a big fan of this trope. I prefer enemy to lover romance. I usually like Miss Ryan books and I even like the other book in this series. However, Straight Up Love is... bit let down.

I think I want more chemistry between Eva and Jake. More explosive. Their relationship developed slow and luke warm. Yes Miss Ryan spends a lot of time exploring each character's issue to build up understanding of Jake and Eva character. It was dragging a bit long in the middle. I feel Jake and Eva spend time apart more instead of together.

I think because the trope of friend to romance is not really my thing, I enjoy this book less. I still like the writing though. It still flawless.

"I want all the things I've spent years aching for and denied myself."

I am just so in love with this series. I enjoy these brothers very much, and the love they give and the support they show for everyone is smile inducing. It really is! With each book, I find myself falling deeper in love with another man from the Jackson family. So far, each book has been a journey, saturated with emotions and feelings I didn't see coming. Jake is the best friend of best friends...and you could see it. I loved their story, but I'm tellin' ya, I loved me some Jake something fierce!

I couldn't help but fall in love with Jake a lot more with this emotional addition to The Boys of Jackson Harbor Series, and I already knew I wanted to read his story after meeting him in The Wrong Kind of Love, but I just felt so sad for him while reading this one. Not bad....just, I didn't envy the position he was in. The pull he felt for Ava was so sweet, and I loved the way he made her feel safe and secure, but also sexy and desired. I mean, we all love a man that is so confident in himself that his sweet side is also confident and not so insecure. One thing I saw in him repeatedly and easily was the sincerity in his affections for Ava. Yes, they were best friends, but it would also seem a story about unrequited love. I loved seeing both sides of this one because feeling and seeing their pull towards one another was so real. Secrets and drama aside, their friendship was the foundation for an amazing love.

There seriously is not a selfish bone in Jake's body!!! There was not one thing about him I didn't love...mistakes and all! And knowing his sweetness, I have to say this story played out on Jake's every emotion!! Oh man, I felt his pain, his desperation, his need for Ava....and gosh, I felt so bad for him. His struggle is what I loved reading, but his conviction and character was strong! I know that sounds mean that I enjoyed his struggle and his pain, but it was just written so well. I felt his desire, I smiled through his small victories, and I reveled in their love. I love that Lexi can write a man's POV with conviction. She is able to make me believe and feel, while not making it sound so feminine. I love it!! And Jake's mouth....I could just feel his breath on my neck, and the chills on my skin as Lexi was telling me how he whispered naughties in her ears. Mmm mmmm, good.

"He nips at my neck and sucks. When I release a soft cry, he groans into my ear. "Christ. You're going to be my undoing, Ava."

Lexi added quite a bit of backstory and depth with this one. The weird part was, some of it didn't seem pertinent at the time I was reading it, but as I got deeper into the story, it was nice to see it all piece itself together and it made for some aha! moments. I never question Lexi's writing, so I knew there was a method to her madness with all the info she was giving us, but it always amazes me to be able to read it and see it come together. I loved that she was actually giving me some depth to the characters and the overall story. She's telling me Ava and Jake's love story, while filling in some more of the plot for more books to come, giving me insight on the other family members. All the while, adding another level to the base of this familial story and it made it more rich and enjoyable for me.

Lexi is such a solid writer with a penchant for sexy and sweet reads, yet they always pack some heat too. You know that ease and comfortability of sinking into an author's words? That's what Lexi's are. Comfortable. She endears you to her characters, like they are your best friends and you are along on their journey. It was no different for this story. I love these Jackson boys and once again I am looking forward to the next story -- Levi's story is coming in August! That boy is gonna be a heartbreaker, of course with something to hide!

"I like the earth steady and solid beneath my feet, but Jake's offering the wind in my hair, the thrill of the fall."

***Actual rating: 4/5 Baby Stars***

”I can either watch her have some other man’s baby, or I can watch her have mine.” I shrug. Honestly, once that became the crossroads in my mind, my decision was clear. Offering to give Ava a baby is the biggest gamble of my life. But is it really a gamble, given the alternative?

Oh my, I think Straight Up Love is by far the best written story where babies are involved. If you know me well, I’m not a big fan of babies or kids or anything alike, so when I first read the synopsis of the book, I admit I hesitated for a second about picking it up. Thankfully, I’m beyond satisfied that this book does not disappoint! Not in a bit!

Straight Up Love is a story about a 30-year-old birthday girl, Ava, who failed her first marriage epically, wanting nothing but a baby—a real baby—since she’s so eager to be a mom BUT can’t find her Mr. Right in time. Hence, she drunkenly plucks up her courage to ask her best friend, Jake, for his sperms to help her get pregnant. Much to her surprise, Jake actually says yes almost immediately and he also offers to make her pregnant the usual way, that is, via sex (instead of using the weird turkey baster she initially planned).

Normally, I’d assume that insta-lust is the key to Ava and Jake’s baby-making project because c’mon, isn’t that how most new adult contemporary romance stories work? But guess what? The author catches me off guard with her well-thought-out development in the plot as well as Ava and Jake’s romance. Ava and Jake turn out to be the kind of couple who’ll think everything through before jumping to the conclusion or making rushed decisions which they’ll probably regret afterwards. What’s more, I’m taken aback when I realize how much Jake, a seemingly hunky jock, cares about Ava! He’s not playing with her feelings like many jocks do (stereotypically) nor is he taking advantage of her. Jake truly respects her physically/emotionally, and he always puts her before himself.
”Christ, Ava, I’m in love with you. So in love with you that I stood by your side while you married another man. So in love with you that I can’t move the f*ck on until I know without a doubt in my mind that you don’t feel this too. I’m pretty sure I was born in love with you, and every moment we’re together, this thing I feel becomes more of who I am.”

*Aww, isn’t he the real Knight in Shining Armor? Wait, or should he be the Daddy in Superman outfit?*

Anyway, I really had an amazing time reading Straight Up Love and I can’t wait for all of you to read it! Although it’s the second book in The Boys of Jackson Harbor series, this book can be read as a standalone; thus, you could simply pick this up without reading the first one. :D Of course, I believe the first book will be worth the read just like this one so I will certainly check it out ASAP.

P.S. You could check my blog tour for more info & excerpt about the book.

***Thanks to Social Butterfly and the author for providing me with an e-ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.***

I wasn't feeling the book. From the first chapter, I got the feeling that the two of us wouldn't work out and unfortunately that became true. I couldn't get into the story and I didn't like Ava. At first I was neutral, but later on I couldn't understand her or like her. I liked Jake more. He is a good guy and I felt sorry for him because Ava didn't feel the same way about him. I was not happy with him after a certain flashback though and it sucked because I was rooting for him.

The story was dragging. For half the book Jake and Ava dance around each other and nothing more is happening than seeing Ava trying to decide how she wants to have her baby and Jake having feelings for her. It's a slow book and it focused on the wrong things. I didn't feel like Ava saw Jake as something more than a friend for half the book at least. I started skimming the story after that flashback. The first book was so much better and this one didn't live up to my expectations. I hope the author won't torture us a lot before Ellie and Levi get together in the next book. I wanted their story from the moment I met them in The wrong kind of love. Overall, I would recommend to skip the book and go to the next. Still, some of you might want to read it because I have a feeling some of the things that happened in this book will have a big role in the next book.

After reading and finishing book one I was intrigued about Jake and Ava.

I love best friends to romance stories.

I did enjoy this book a bit more than book one in this series.

I know these books can be read as standalones but I wanted to start from the beginning of the series.

I really liked the first chapters of the book and the build up of this book of the characters getting together and waiting for them to admit their true feelings but then I lost interest towards the end because I got bored BUT it was a happy ending✨

This was another book that was a cute and short read for me.

I think I am going to move on towards book three.

This contemporary romance series featuring different brothers in a Michigan small town has my heart. I'm surprised at how much I love this series given I'm not usually a "plain" contemporary girlie.

Characters: ★★★
Romance vibes: ★★★
Enjoyment: ★★★★

Straight Up Love is the second book in the Boys of Jackson Harbor series, but like many contemporary romance series this book is an easy one to pick up as a standalone. Each book in the series follows a different brother from the Jackson family, and each brother's story has a different set of iconic romance tropes.

This entry into the series follows Jake and Ava—and we're talking two best friends, secret pining, trying for a baby, and family drama.

Now, I'm the FIRST to say that I don't like baby topics in my romances. Unexpected pregnancies, trying for children, or just general kid/baby plot lines in my romances...It's usually a hard pass. So when I say I really enjoyed Straight Up Love... Yep. It was pretty good. (And honestly, not that focused on the baby thing despite it being one of the main marketing hooks, which was HUGE plus).

Watching Jake and Ava bumble around each other as best friends with inner turmoil? Perfection.

Getting to witness some angsty drama involving their families? Hell yes.

And, of course, having some steamy payoff scenes to wrap it all up. Mmhmm.

I don't know folks, that's about it. Come for the fun, stay for the fun. These light and breezy rom-coms are exactly what I need as a palate cleanser between deeper reads.

I feel as though I spent most of this book torn between which of the main characters I felt worse for.

There ended up being a little more angst to the story then I was expecting, and yet it was a book I could easily pick back up when life forced me to tear myself away. I personally ended up being a huge fan of Jake. Even in his mistakes he ultimately put the person he loved first. There were moments when I'll admit I was frustrated and wanted to throw my kindle. Jake was the kind of guy who deserves to be fought for. Not enough of that happened for my liking. And still this story had me riveted. Just goes to show what a good author Lexi Ryan is.

There was one secondary character that really had me intrigued by the end of the book. I need the next one to be here already.

RECENSIONE QUI: https://thereadingslove.blogspot.com/...

description

Oh my word, was this book GOOD!!! This was the PERFECT friends to lovers romance but it was made even better by how complicated and messy it was. The friendship between Ava and Jake is so sweet and so dependable but their undeniable chemistry and the quiet longing between them was just... ugh. It was everything. Watching these two circumnavigate the chaotic emotions they feel for each other while trying to maintain the friendship that they both rely on was both deliciously frustrating and wholly intoxicating and I loved every bit of it.

So let me just say this... While I certainly enjoyed the first book in this series, the angst and tumultuous emotions I crave from Lexi Ryan were noticeably absent in that book. That book was adorable and sweet I enjoyed it but there's no denying that something was missing for me in that storyline. But Lexi Ryan brought ALL THE THINGS to Straight Up Love, the angst, the emotional uncertainty, the shocking revelations, the steam and the palpable sexual tension that I have come to anticipate from her books and I seriously LOVED it.

I dont even want to get into a lot of the plot details because JUST READ THIS BOOK. But I'll tell you that there's a lot happening in Straight Up Love, a lot of things that take a friends to lovers romance and elevates it several notches. Ava's desire for a baby, Jake's long kept secrets that made me want to throw my kindle, the most romantic declarations, the most heartbreaking plot twists and the side characters with their own drama that have me DESPERATE for the upcoming books in this series, all of it culminates into this breathtaking, heartbreaking, hopeful, joyful, sexy story that I couldn't get enough of. This was the PERFECT amount of angsty goodness, the most deliciously satisfying romance... Straight Up Love was straight up fantastic and I can't wait for more from the Boys of Jackson Harbor.

No skvost...

Skvělá chemie, skvěle vedlejší postavy (její sestru nesnáším, ale zároveň, to drama, to tajemství WAU). 😀

Další díl bude o Ellie, Avy kamarádce a Leviovi, další Jacksonovic klukovi. No tenhle další díl bude stát zase za to. Už aby vyšel. ❤️

After reading the chapter sneak peek for Straight Up Love in the first book of this series, I knew I was going to love it and could not wait to get my hands on it and read it. I am a sucker for friends to lovers novels and even more so when they become our baby daddies, and they do it not because you asked but because deep down they love you and would do anything for you. That is the tale of Straight Up Love; we have best friends since school Ava and Jake. For as long as he can remember, Jake has been in love with Ava, and he did try to tell her once, but it was bad timing as it was just before she was set to marry her ex. Things didn't quite work out, and Ava moved back to Jackson Harbor and got a job at Jake's bar. Now reaching the big 3-0, Ava has one goal in mind - she wants to become a mother, and though she has been looking at sperm donors, none of them seem just right. That is until in a drunken haze she asks Jake, and he agrees to help. We can see this is Jake's way to finally prove and show Ava that he is head over heels in love with her. Will Ava be open to having Jake as more than friends? What will happen though when Ava's stepsister arrives with a son almost five and the timeline possibly being Jake's son? I was glad in one way when the truth was revealed, but then I wanted to know more about the son's parentage as was the father Ava's brother or her actual dad? I am hoping we get to know the truth eventually. The only thing that I have to admit that annoys me about the friends to lovers storylines is the amount of game playing. I hate the to and fro'ing as be honest of course lines will become blurred and true romantic feelings will develop, stop freaking pussy-footing around it and tell the other person how you feel like 100% of the time - guess what, they feel the same way back. I am now looking forward to the next story in the Boys of Jackson Harbor series by Lexi Ryan.

Ava wants a baby badly, but her relationship status is not promising. Deciding she doesn’t need a man to have a baby on her own, she begins concocting plans to use a sperm donor. But a drunken request to her best friend has her plans changing, with the possibility of a known donor.

Jake Jackson’s feelings for Ava are the worst kept secret in the Jackson family. Though his siblings may all know his feelings, he has kept them hidden from Ava herself. Her request that he father her child opens up a window of opportunity for him, especially if he can show her how good they could be together.

This friends to lovers has a lot going on. I loved Jake. He is a perfect gentleman and such a great friend to Ava. His selflessness when it comes to their friendship runs deeper than anyone would expect him to go, especially because he loves her. Watching her marry another man and then watching that marriage crumble hurt Jake because it hurt Ava. He just wanted her happy.

I had a hard time believing that Ava really didn’t see Jake’s feelings for her as long as she did. Everyone around them knew, so her complete ignorance was surprising. There is a lot of angst surrounding this couple, particularly because Jake wants out of the friend zone so badly, but Ava doesn’t see it.

There are some deeply kept secrets between them as well. I found that while I enjoyed watching the friends to lovers aspects unfolding, I also really enjoyed watching what was going on with the side characters and the secrets that had been hiding in the background.

This was a drama filled story that perfectly encompasses what I’ve come to expect from Lexi Ryan. The setup for a few different couples has me anticipating the continuation of this series.

I was gifted a copy.

Review by Jen Skewes

I am just loving this serious. I adore the characters, especially the Jackson family. Straight Up Love is a best friends to lovers romance which is one of my favorite stories to read. And Lexi Ryan did not disappoint.

Ava is celebrating her 30th birthday and she realizes how much she wants to be a mother and that time may be running out. She has been burned in the past and has every intention of having a baby and doing it all on her own. Her determination and courage and strength to even want to do something like this on her own is admirable. She knows what she wants and does not want to wait for that right person to come along, for fear that it may never happen.

Enter Jake Jackson, her best friend since she was 10. They have been through everything together and their friendship and loyalty is just beyond amazing. When Ava asks him for his help as always Jake is there for her. But he wants to do this his way. He has been in love with Ava for as long as he can remember. He has no problem giving Ava what she wants and needs because it gives him hope that in return he will get what he has always wanted, Ava to be his. They are best friends, and would do anything for each other, but will taking this next step risk their relationship . If they go through with this, will Ava risk losing Jake?

I loved Jake and Ava together. As friends, as lovers and everything to each other. Jake is the sweetest, gentlest, caring and sexy man who would vive Ava the world. Because when it came to her, she was/is his world. Ava's friendship with Jake means everything to her but over the years yo have to wonder if she ever felt the same way about Jake. She has never admitted it to herself but the feelings are so clearly there. I was rooting for the two of them to get past their fears and open up to each other in the one way that they haven't over the years.

This book is an emotional roller coaster. A slow build between two best friends who are so afraid of what they feel. So afraid of messing up. There was drama and angst. Truths that came out that not only shocked me but caused knots to form in my stomach. I kept thinking why oh why? And how would we move on from this. I say we because I felt like I was a part of Ava and Jake's life. I was going through this roller coaster with them and felt what they felt. There was some heartache, and emotional moments. But there were also fun and sexy times which I really loved. Straight Up Love is a friends to lovers romance that will give you everything you want in a book. A sexy hero, a lovable heroine, twists and turns, and a list of supporting characters whose story you cannot wait for.

I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.

My review: https://www.facebook.com/books4girls/...

First of all, I would like to thank Lexi Ryan and the Social Butterfly PR team for this ARC.

Straight Up Love is the second book of Lexi’s new series, The Boys of Jackson Harbor. We follow the story of Ava and Jake Jackson (Ethan’s brother).

Ava and Jake are best friends since forever. They grew up together, work together and share the most of their life together.

But Jake has been in love with Ava for a long time. He tried to tell her one and it was a disaster.

The day of her 30th birthday, Ava decide to have a baby on her own. Her friends push her to abandon the donor’s idea and ask a friend. Ending drunk at her, she finds herself asking Jake to make her a baby.

The rest you can imagine! Once the alcohol disappeared, Ava finds herself with a big question: does she really want to put her friendship with Jake at risk for having his baby?

Even if the subject has already been treated in many romances, I took pleasure in discovering the story of these two who, deep inside them, loved each other for a long time. The author takes us into their insecurities, their hopes, their desires to be something other than mere friends.

In brief, a story that isn’t new but a wonderful love story with two people who have much more to offer than a simple relationship.

Oh where do I start with this review! I'm a total sucker for this trope, first of all. Friends to lovers and second chance romances are some of my favorite books to read. Couple that with Lexi's story telling and writing and you have GOLD!

Oh how I know what it's like to be Ava. As I personally was approaching my 30's I wanted nothing more then to have kids, mostly so I wasn't too old to keep up with them as they grew up. So as her 30th birthday dawns Ava wants nothing more then to have a baby. She's been burned by a crappy ex-husband, and though she knows it will be hard, she is planning to go the route alone. Her courage, outlook and determination, were such quality traits in her character. Teacher by day and part time bar tender in the evenings, Ava has a sensible direction in her life and she plans and goals and she's going to achieve them.

Enter Jake Jackson, the stunning and handsome best friend and bar owner and heir to the famous Jackson name. When he's approached by drunken Ava to help her with her endeavor to have a baby, he's shocked to say the least. Jake has been harboring feelings for Ava for years. But Jake devises brilliant plan to not just give Ava what she wants most, but to get what he wants most, her in his bed forever... GAH... Jake is simply. THE. BEST! I absolutely adored him from the get go. Even with his faults he is one special guy, now if only Ava would see him more then just the best friend....

Get ready for the roller coaster or emotions that this journey will take you on! Jake and Ava have a push and pull that will keep you flipping the pages furiously to see what will come next. Their love truly leapt off the pages, and Jake is so sweet, kind and caring, with a side of alpha that will have you wanting a Jackson brother of your own.

I fell in love all over again with the Jackson family in this book. Lexi knows how to write the family sagas the suck you in and make you feel like you want to be a part of this family. The Jackson family is big and each brother has his own way of making you fall in love with them, even when the book isn't about them, you get just enough of them to keep you wanting more. And Lexi's storytelling and writing are like a fine wine, as it ages, it gets better and better. I remember back to her very fist book I read of hers and how far she's coming, each story having its own totally unique facets and plots. Lexi's become one of my MUST. ONE. CLICK. authors and will be for a long time to come! If you haven't read either of the Jackson Harbor books you need to read them now. They can be read out of order, so give Jake a one click now. I promise you won't be sorry!

What the heck happened from the first book to this one? The quality went downhill fast . I am at 55% and I just don't think I can continue reading this which is a shame because I really liked the first one.

The characters are unlikable and the plot is based on one thing: Ava wants to get pregnant at 30 because her asshole ex husband blamed her for not being able to conceive while they were together. Which...fine, I guess. But then she comes up with the idea of having her best friend, Jake, donate said baby. Which is..weird...to say the least because I refuse to believe she really doesn't know his feelings for her. Like, girl....come on. This is probably why I don't like Ava at all. She can't make a decision to save her life and when she does, they are just not...good decisions. That, and she lets everyone walk all over her. She got on my nerves fast.

Jake was okay but comes up with the genius idea to actually make a baby 'the old fashioned way' *winkwinkwink* UGH. THE STUPID AWARD GOES TO HIM. I cannot.

In what universe is that a good idea? You love the girl, but she doesn't love you...so lets manipulate the situation to get what they both want! Good idea, RIGHT?! This situation will certainly end up with the most favorable outcome! Ugh. On top of all of that, nothing seems to happen. There is no plot outside of guy in love with girl and girl wants baby. No thanks.

Sexual tension at maximum extreme!!!

Straight Up Love was a straight up knockout! I didn’t think the author could possibly manage to surpass the excellence that was The Wrong King of Love, but she did. Oh boy, did she ever! This friends-to-lovers romance puts itself in its own new category of unrequited love, unbearable longing, and unrelenting affection…this book is so sweet and savory, you won’t be able to put it down!

Jake and Ava were extraordinary! Their entire relationship was a sizzling mix of desire, love, and loyalty. And the emotional push/pull dynamic of the storyline was a revolving door of unexpected challenges and situations. The dual POV story gives so much from both characters, it makes you feel as if you’re in their heads and in their hearts, feeling every single emotion running through them. And the little snippets into the lives of the extended cast of characters were the perfect teases to tide the reader over, and just enough to pique the curiosity for whose love story is next.

Straight Up Love was everything I was hoping for, and more! I am completely IN LOVE with the boys of Jackson Harbor! Each book has been absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait for the next story in this to-die-for series!

I wanted to like this story more than
I did. I loved the idea, but it fell short
on story. I started off liking Ava, but
her lack of self confidence, and her
total ignorance of Jake's feelings for
most of her life annoyed me. The
saving of this book is Jake. Jake knows,
and has always known, that Ava is
the only woman he will ever love.
I hate that Ava was so blind, and
undeserving of his love. I do like
the twist, even though I knew immediately
what the twist would be, but it
kept me interested. Ava somewhat
redeemed herself in the end, and I
could see her and Jake and their
HEA. I am involved enough that I will
read the next book.

See, there was some twists in here that had me wanting to throw the kindle while I was reading. I wanted to throw up with what I thought was happening. I really shouldn't have doubted Lexi Ryan's story telling abilities. This turned out just perfect :) I kind of want Jake for myself LOL And I can't wait to read what is going to happen in the lives of the rest of the Jackson boys, and Molly LOL

Maria Antonietta - per RFS
.
