If you are looking for action and military, this is the story for you. If you are looking for story and science fiction, I would pass. This is the first book in the Biotech Wars series, and for me it was less about biotech and more about an American militaristic landscape set on a space station.
The story features two protagonists set on opposite sides. Unfortunately, in the first couple of chapters it is easy to see what the situation is and how it will probably turn out. I don’t usually bother to prognosticate a story, fully expecting the author to surprise me. That was not the case here as the story was somewhat predictable from the onset. There were a few twists and turns, but nothing overly surprising.
However, the action is the focus of the story, and this doesn’t disappoint. In the biography I see that the author served in the marine corps, so I see where the inspiration for the story came from. I thought the action sequences were mostly well done.
Perhaps my biggest disappointment is the world the story takes place. The story is presumed to take place on a space station, but there is little in the world that separates it from a regular earth-based story. The story features some interesting technology, but nothing that is overly original. You can bet that if a character picks up some sort of novel weapon, the perfect situation will present itself for them to use it. These end up being throwaway bits as well.
There isn’t that much descript for the main characters. Part of this has to do with the plot, and should be forgiven, but something more might have helped. The motivations for the leading lady don’t come across clearly beyond a vague investigation into her husband’s death, and the leading man has memory problems. The remaining cast of characters tend to be vanilla wise-cracking, gung-ho types. There is also an undercurrent of middle-American morality that I find offensive.
Overall, I did get some enjoyment from the action portions of the story, but I feel there are much better examples out there. It was a mercifully quick read, and the characters don’t interest me enough to bother with their subsequent adventures. Two of five on Goodreads.

Wow. This was bad. The whole series was bad. I have no idea how a premise like this could have gone so terribly wrong.
Maybe he stole the idea from someone else and then just ruined it? I don't know.
It's sold as cyberpunk without a basic conception of hacking or any depth in social stratification, a romance with no romance, and a premise that promises action without providing any that's serviceably described.
And it's soo... damned... repetative...
The two main characters are constantly talking about how they "need answers." I couldn't even begin to count the number of times both characters shared basically the same two-three lines saying that, over and over again... and then there's the wannabe romance aspect which... ugh, I don't want to remember enough to even review it, it's an attempt at romance without actually having any... It almost seems like, sentimentally, the author was writing a letter to a woman who sent him a dear john and he can't get over it...
The second and third book in the series are all equally bad, but for different reasons. I got through them because there COULD have been so many awesome aspects to work with in this world, and I kept praying it would get better, and certain aspects did while others fell by the way-side. I kept asking myself through the whole thing, "why the hell do I keep reading this," and in the end, I am firmly sure I should have listened to that voice within the first 50 pages or so.
I honestly don't want to think about any of these books any more, so I'm going to warn you all off here. Don't get drawn in by this unique and interesting set-up. It's never developed well, and the "USA!... USA!!!" bullsh*t toward the end of the third book is not only completely incongruous, but also utterly unsupported by any of the character nor world development, and it kind of turns the stomach considering the subject matter discussed in the series to that point.
If you're thinking of reading any of this series, just don't.

I recently saw that a member of the Morons Are Great Americans who whilst insulting an essayist whom I list, complain to her that I list other trans creators. The Snowflake (arrogant, nasty, poorly educated white US man-child)) no longer surprises me. A trigger warning then.
My reviews include mention of channels with photographer, older, cis, archaeologist, Indian, military modeller, asexual, communist, architect, model, bi, culture critic, ginger, socialist, trans, tall, sewist, Bahamian, military historian, lesbian, physically challenged, lesbian, mathematician, WOC, marine biologist, intersex, pensioner, cosplayer, Canadian, queer, married, autist, farmer, boater and other creators known as Women.
Almost as deadly to smug, ignorant self-importance will be channels including physicist, fashion historian, Scottish, other LGBTQI+, book reviewer, zoologist, redhaired, other BIPOC, writer, short, Ugandan, economist, archaeologist, other neurodivergent, chemist, wood worker, anarchist, science educator, Ukrainian, linguist and other creators known (outside the USA) as Human Beings.
If the voices still demand visits to these channels, I suggest emergency therapy, embracing any Mahayana Buddhism or learning a new language, English perhaps.
These reviews are a chore at times but I remind myself of the early days interview with the middle aged teacher, who organised and led her civilian anti-tank team north of Kyiv hunting Russian armour. With their example, I can not but continue.

Once more unto the book, dear friends. I managed until page 199. This is a typical first person shooter game in print. Most of the Kindle Unlimited library are this category. All combat is a small team of "elite" infantry overcoming incredible odds or a single destroyer correctly identified as escort warship doing same.
Typical low end US science fiction fare. The writing was poor. The characters were unusually diverse for this category but remained flat.
The worldbuilding is the standard Capitalist Realism. That which is, always has been and always will be. Fortunately for these writers, my scan of reviews when Goodreads Allowed me to see others, indicated that their fans are content to supply whatever background they require.
This book is no exception to the US publisher rule that there is no need for background, character depth or development or examination of the story's society for science fiction or fantasy.
What does this government do besides organizing the military forces which prevent worker revolts or quash them as they arise? As today, the working classes pay the wages of their guards.
The premise that Earth's population are unaware of the endemic corruption, repression and corporate devotion to ever increasing profits is typical for the low end.
The technology is all of the "magic" variety, which can be made to work. That requires that limits, restrictions and applications be clearly described which this book as most does not.

I began using YouTube a bit more than three years ago in search of decent science fiction commentary. I was overwhelmed by the myriad other special interest areas. The better essayists are awesome. The best surprise was the book channels. 😍 The communities fostered are of friendly, curious readers who love all things bookish. They are a far different experience to that of whatever Goodreads have become.
I ended my Unlimited sub.

Goodreads do not encourage discourse. As example, I wrote a short six sentence review of Powers of the Earth By Travis Corcoran.
Travis self-identified as US veteran, advocate for the return of chattel slavery (popular stance in the USA with Utah completing the first forced labour prison for the homeless), libertarian (now anarcho capitalist without millions), supporter of the Russian police state (another popular US stance) and employee of an unnamed US agency.
That book was "Atlas Shrugged" set on the moon and more poorly written. A heroic rich twat enlists the military to overthrow the US government in order that he not pay taxes. Very popular theme on Unlimited and I found it dangerous, unhealthy and now prophetic.
The Corcoran led a small band of patriots in a year long stream of comments demanding my response, else I am a narcissist. The evils of my socialist perspective, history being created solely by white men and more were explained. No mention of missed literary excellence was made.
My hope that new insight into recent astronomical discoveries might be included, was dashed but such is life.
The final comment was delivered by Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr. After commenting on the contents of the last message between myself and a Goodreads friend, he declared that They had "won" (?).
I discovered that They had launched a year long deluge of truly foul sexual and racist comments against apparently all female creators of channels which I mention. It continues still. The midteen boater and her mother, the particle physicist, the model maker, the historian and other female creators were not charmed.
Despite that failure, the world's store of unpleasantness was certainly increased and a splendid self-portrait of the US snowflake (Karen-like, mean girl US man-baby) was delivered to a multinational audience.

This was the longest and weirdest attack stream but other than the Australian incident, it very much mirrors years of comments to my reviews. Visit the FAFO channels for videos made by these emotionally damaged children. The stupidity on display will be shocking but educational.

Ominous music begins, 🙂 The comment clouds are a feature not flaw of Goodreads. Amazon have taken no action against members doxxing, stalking, threatening or more other members daring to write one star reviews. Also absent are actions taken against writers or the employees who enable both.
After my review of Powers, my message history was given over to these knuckle draggers. Through them a request was made by Pine Gap Centre of Australian Security that They interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged on Goodreads. The attempt at my personal history failed, though two outraged customers were created.
No acknowledgement was made of those crimes until we shared the experience with many others. Soon after, the Goodreads harassment seems to have ended. All Lurkers whom I had not been Permitted to remove, were suddenly disappeared. Page format and options were suddenly returned to normal. Even the Kindle Incels seem to have fallen in line. Amazon have interesting customer service protocols.
Three weeks or so ago, my keyboard layout was set to split screen again but now my Kindle options to reset have been removed. The cowardly, lowly paid Amazon Snowflake taking the piss is on brand.
A seventh ex-employee of EBay was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce channel was deemed unkind to EBay. The couple were awarded millions and that ex-employee had been the Chief of Global Operations or some such. All the above occurred before the new license given to US data firms. The above are deserving of thought.
I suggest a few precautions to improve security in the Amazonverse. Remove any personal information from Goodreads profile and avoid the messaging function. Remove the lurker, those friends who never post. They are likely monitors for comment gangs or employee dummies, not admirers.
With the Amazon penchant for customer page Alterations, the screenshot of the odd, ugly and threatening are invaluable. These should suffice if only exposed to Goodreads.
Kindle are the more dangerous. Do Not use Kindle Email, Calendar, Contact or Files. I confirmed after a test, that Amazon employees Sign Into customer email without permission or notice. Make of that what you will.
Do Not "purchase" Kindle ebooks, as you own only the device and downloads are leased. They may be altered or deleted at Amazon's whim. I confess to my having made that mistake. There are BookTubers to suggest alternative ebook and tablet vendors. They also will suggest useful alternatives to ebook purchase.
After more than a year with YouTube commentary channels, I finally have a sense of the US member gang. Imagine a society of Farage minions, Tommy Robinson acolytes and other flag sh#ggers. Their actions are not Cruel, Cruelty is the point. They are US patriots. Ominous music ends 🙂

I recently saw that a member of the Morons Are Great Americans who whilst insulting an essayist whom I list, complain to her that I list other trans creators. The Snowflake (arrogant, nasty, poorly educated white US man-child)) no longer surprises me. A trigger warning then.
My reviews include mention of channels with photographer, older, cis, archaeologist, Indian, military modeller, asexual, communist, architect, model, bi, culture critic, ginger, socialist, trans, tall, sewist, Bahamian, military historian, lesbian, physically challenged, lesbian, mathematician, WOC, marine biologist, intersex, pensioner, cosplayer, Canadian, queer, married, autist, farmer, boater and other creators known as Women.
Almost as deadly to smug, ignorant self-importance will be channels including physicist, fashion historian, Scottish, other LGBTQI+, book reviewer, zoologist, redhaired, other BIPOC, writer, short, Ugandan, economist, archaeologist, other neurodivergent, chemist, wood worker, anarchist, science educator, Ukrainian, linguist and other creators known (outside the USA) as Human Beings.
If the voices still demand visits to these channels, I suggest emergency therapy, embracing any Mahayana Buddhism or learning a new language, English perhaps.
These reviews are a chore at times but I remind myself of the early days interview with the middle aged teacher, who organised and led her civilian anti-tank team north of Kyiv hunting Russian armour. With their example, I can not but continue.

Once more unto the book, dear friends. I managed until page 199. This is a typical first person shooter game in print. Most of the Kindle Unlimited library are this category. All combat is a small team of "elite" infantry overcoming incredible odds or a single destroyer correctly identified as escort warship doing same.
Typical low end US science fiction fare. The writing was poor. The characters were unusually diverse for this category but remained flat.
The worldbuilding is the standard Capitalist Realism. That which is, always has been and always will be. Fortunately for these writers, my scan of reviews when Goodreads Allowed me to see others, indicated that their fans are content to supply whatever background they require.
This book is no exception to the US publisher rule that there is no need for background, character depth or development or examination of the story's society for science fiction or fantasy.
What does this government do besides organizing the military forces which prevent worker revolts or quash them as they arise? As today, the working classes pay the wages of their guards.
The premise that Earth's population are unaware of the endemic corruption, repression and corporate devotion to ever increasing profits is typical for the low end.
The technology is all of the "magic" variety, which can be made to work. That requires that limits, restrictions and applications be clearly described which this book as most does not.

I began using YouTube a bit more than three years ago in search of decent science fiction commentary. I was overwhelmed by the myriad other special interest areas. The better essayists are awesome. The best surprise was the book channels. 😍 The communities fostered are of friendly, curious readers who love all things bookish. They are a far different experience to that of whatever Goodreads have become.
I ended my Unlimited sub.

Goodreads do not encourage discourse. As example, I wrote a short six sentence review of Powers of the Earth By Travis Corcoran.
Travis self-identified as US veteran, advocate for the return of chattel slavery (popular stance in the USA with Utah completing the first forced labour prison for the homeless), libertarian (now anarcho capitalist without millions), supporter of the Russian police state (another popular US stance) and employee of an unnamed US agency.
That book was "Atlas Shrugged" set on the moon and more poorly written. A heroic rich twat enlists the military to overthrow the US government in order that he not pay taxes. Very popular theme on Unlimited and I found it dangerous, unhealthy and now prophetic.
The Corcoran led a small band of patriots in a year long stream of comments demanding my response, else I am a narcissist. The evils of my socialist perspective, history being created solely by white men and more were explained. No mention of missed literary excellence was made.
My hope that new insight into recent astronomical discoveries might be included, was dashed but such is life.
The final comment was delivered by Claes Rees Jr aka cgr710 now ka Clayton R Jesse Jr. After commenting on the contents of the last message between myself and a Goodreads friend, he declared that They had "won" (?).
I discovered that They had launched a year long deluge of truly foul sexual and racist comments against apparently all female creators of channels which I mention. It continues still. The midteen boater and her mother, the particle physicist, the model maker, the historian and other female creators were not charmed.
Despite that failure, the world's store of unpleasantness was certainly increased and a splendid self-portrait of the US snowflake (Karen-like, mean girl US man-baby) was delivered to a multinational audience.

Ominous music begins, 🙂 The comment clouds are a feature not flaw of Goodreads. Amazon have taken no action against members doxxing, stalking, threatening or more other members daring to write one star reviews. Also absent are actions taken against writers or the employees who enable both.
After my review of Powers, my message history was given over to these knuckle draggers. Through them a request was made by Pine Gap Centre of Australian Security that They interrogate the one friend whom I occasionally messaged on Goodreads. The attempt at my personal history failed, though two outraged customers were created.
No acknowledgement was made of those crimes until we shared the experience with many others. Soon after, the Goodreads harassment seems to have ended. All Lurkers whom I had not been Permitted to remove, were suddenly disappeared. Page format and options were suddenly returned to normal. Even the Kindle Incels seem to have fallen in line. Amazon have interesting customer service protocols.
Three weeks or so ago, my keyboard layout was set to split screen again but now my Kindle options to reset have been removed. The cowardly, lowly paid Amazon Snowflake taking the piss is on brand.
A seventh ex-employee of EBay was sentenced for harassment of a couple whose small ecommerce channel was deemed unkind to EBay. The couple were awarded millions and that ex-employee had been the Chief of Global Operations or some such. All the above occurred before the new license given to US data firms. The above are deserving of thought.
I suggest a few precautions to improve security in the Amazonverse. Remove any personal information from Goodreads profile and avoid the messaging function. Remove the lurker, those friends who never post. They are likely monitors for comment gangs or employee dummies, not admirers.
With the Amazon penchant for customer page Alterations, the screenshot of the odd, ugly and threatening are invaluable. These should suffice if only exposed to Goodreads.
Kindle are the more dangerous. Do Not use Kindle Email, Calendar, Contact or Files. I confirmed after a test, that Amazon employees Sign Into customer email without permission or notice. Make of that what you will.
Do Not "purchase" Kindle ebooks, as you own only the device and downloads are leased. They may be altered or deleted at Amazon's whim. I confess to my having made that mistake. There are BookTubers to suggest alternative ebook and tablet vendors. They also will suggest useful alternatives to ebook purchase.
After more than a year with YouTube commentary channels, I finally have a sense of the US member gang. Imagine a society of Farage minions, Tommy Robinson acolytes and other flag sh#ggers. Their actions are not Cruel, Cruelty is the point. They are US patriots. Ominous music ends 🙂

Project Destiny - a review by Rosemary Kenny
This new space adventure is part of the Biotech Wars Series by the Master of Epic Fantasy himself, Justin Sloan,in a two-person narrative around main protagonists Alicia and [husband/former Marine], Marick Carter, once the latter is accepted into a new team aboard Space Station Horus.
Why Marick goes without Alicia and what happens to the team-members once there, are revealed in an interesting and exciting manner.
I can strongly recommend this novel to fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall film, which it resembles in both pace and plot.
Battles, alien technology and the relationships between Team members and others encountered along the way, make this a thrilling tale to remember for a very long time - a sure winner for the Master, as always!

My primary complaint with this book is that the blurb states that "a super soldier teams up with a hacker" but the book then proceeds to go through more than half the book with only a couple of crossover scenes between what's otherwise two completely separate narratives. Presumably future books will involve more of the "team up" aspect, but as someone who picked up this book because I thought it was going to be a two-hander, I was a little disappointed to find out that it's just two separate storylines running that sometimes intersect.
The other issue I had with the book was that while the scenes with super soldier Stealth held my interest and I enjoyed reading them, the hacker chapters with Alice were ones that I found incredibly dull and ended up skimming at times. Ultimately, I gave the book three stars because I liked about half of it, despite its flaws.
I was excited to read this book because I enjoy the genre and the premise sounded interesting. Unfortunately, I found in reading this book that it wasn't quite what was advertised. It's also interesting that the blurb on Amazon is nothing like the blurb on Goodreads, which is much more accurate and might have led to more enjoyment of the book had my expectations based on the ad copy been more accurate.

Great characters
Action packed from the first pages. Characters are well created and believable. Although they were on separate sides off the conflict,I couldn't help cheating on both main characters if you enjoy a great sci-fi read and one of space Marines, you'll enjoy this story. Justin Sloan never fails to give the reader his all and provide edge of the seat entertainment.

Excellent storyline and characters.
Justin Sloan brings the heat in this tale of corporate greed and enhanced super soldiers.
A man reported dead, a wife who won’t stop looking for answers, and a private army of chemically enhanced super soldiers determined to keep her from the answers.
This one hits all of the elements of a great Sci-Fi book.
Well worth the time to read.

Justin but this one out of the park
Firmly in the Sci-fi realm, in a space station with private corporation security creating super soldier's to eventually take over earths governments, with one tech expert desperate to get to the bottom of what happened to her husband who had signed up to become one of those soldiers. This is a great beginning to hopefully a great series. This novel has it all, intrigue, action suspense and great characters. The world build is noteworthy and I think that readers of all ages will enjoy this novel

Muddled Mess of a “Woke” Inspired Wannabe SciFi Saga - DNF
“Project Destiny: A Biopunk Space Thriller...,” authored by Mr. Justin Sloan, is a muddled mess, of a badly written, badly structured, “woke” inspired wannabe SciFi saga. The failure of the author to either attain a readable level of just basic writing execution, and/or a story with some interest, had this reader bailing at page 127, 32% in.
The writing: barely literate, putters along at a hobbyist level or that of a middle schooler. The use of “though” and “but” are just two (2) examples of the author’s ineptitude.
The story: some kinda SJW, “woke” Inspired theme of sensitive, but always emotional, angry, and angst driven, fighting against villainous corporate entities on a Earth space station. Everyone is angry, while the female MC, “Alice,” a former government hacker turned freedom fighter, thinks every male, and a lot of the females, just want to “get in her panties.” She’s searching for answers through asymmetrical, cyber warfare and guerrilla operations, about her deceased husband, a corporate mercenary. The male MC, “Stealth,” a Marine turned genetically modified and juiced up, private army mercenary, suffers “glitches,” as his erased memory spastically makes appearances. He is searching for answers too. Neither MC induced empathy or much concern for this reader. In fact, there wasn’t single character in the book, that engaged this reader.
The abject and abysmal low level of “Project Destiny...,” was crystallized by a passage. “Alice” is upset, angry, that a male member, of her unit, is interested in her on a sexual level. The author describes this fraternization attempt as reprehensible “...group incest....”
“Project Destiny” is NOT recommended and was accessed via Kindle Unlimited.

The story: some kinda SJW, “woke” Inspired theme of sensitive, but always emotional, angry, and angst driven, fighting against villainous corporate entities on a Earth space station. Everyone is angry, while the female MC, “Alice,” a former government hacker turned freedom fighter, thinks every male, and a lot of the females, just want to “get in her panties.” She’s searching for answers through asymmetrical, cyber warfare and guerrilla operations, about her deceased husband, a corporate mercenary. The male MC, “Stealth,” a Marine turned genetically modified and juiced up, private army mercenary, suffers “glitches,” as his erased memory spastically makes appearances. He is searching for answers too. Neither MC induced empathy or much concern for this reader. In fact, there wasn’t single character in the book, that engaged this reader.
The abject and abysmal low level of “Project Destiny...,” was crystallized by a passage. “Alice” is upset, angry, that a male member, of her unit, is interested in her on a sexual level. The author describes this fraternization attempt as reprehensible “...group incest....”
“Project Destiny” is NOT recommended and was accessed via Kindle Unlimited.

As a fan of Justin i found this a little to slow at the start for his usual work. This i think was more because of the plot i feel and the build up which when it came made up for the start.
My advice stick with it as based on the later parts book 2 looks to be of the same vein. As with any new series its always a gamble even with great authors but i think this will work out very popular as the plot and characters have been well planned.
Im new to the skills of Adam Verner but i found him well suited to this.

Not a bad start to a series. I enjoyed the way a few different groups came together in the end. The technical gadgets didn���t have a lot of explanation and there were a couple of parts where one has to really overlook the implausible scenario and just continue on with the story (when Alice takes the place of another marine but those who were JUST talking to the original don’t seem to notice the difference!!). Not bad for action but again, lots of convenient things to help keep the story moving.

An interesting concept that could come true in the far future. Soldiers on a space station defining the way soldiers could move, fight and see enhancing chemicals to the body and special space suits that radiate power. Everyone fighting for power but unknown to earth's government or FBI what really was going on in the space station. The special effects pushed on the elite soldiers, made them forget their life before but one man remembered. Good book.

This book had errors throughout and was a fun read. The concept was interesting and could have been developed more smoothly, but was overall okay. The main characters where developed well enough, but the story was a big predictable. I will think on reading the next one as it sounds like the same concept, just on a different space station, with both of them knowing more information.

Great Story once you get past the nouns for persons names
Alice (Alicia) loses her husband. Can’t think that he is dead and travels through space to see if she can find him ir his body. This new era has let some organizations scientifically bio-develop née humans, through enhancing the bodies while causing the mind to los memories, e.g., previous husband and wife, Marick and Alicia.

I listened to this on Hoopla through my library, and I really enjoyed the voice of the narrator, so if you go that route, it's a good listen.
Overall the story was just kind of okay. I like the idea behind it and the connections between the characters, the world building was pretty good. I think it's well written, but something just didn't strike home with me.

SciFi goodness
Reading other reviews it seems one either really likes this book or really dislikes it. Count me among the former. It does start a little slowly but really picks up the pace. I like the tech bits but the characters and their stories are what makes the book. Looking forward to the next.

What are you without your memories? Project Destiny is a fast moving sci-fi adventure where battle strength comes at a high cost, that of your past. This is the first part of a series, so it sets things up for future books, but it works fine independently as well.

Project Destiny is the first book in the Biotech Wars series. This can be read as a standalone. There is violence. The author introduces us to an interesting plot line and cast of characters. As usual he has written an exciting SciFi book.

Solid First Book in the Series
Good characters, lots of science fiction with a little fantasy thrown in; a great combination. Plenty of action and the story moves along at a good pace.

Enjoyable story so far.
I'm not much for SciFi normally but this story has a really good premise behind it that I enjoyed. PMCs taking over, doing bad things they know they can get away with. Definitely looking forward to reading more in this series.

Stealth is an ex-marine and a vet yet he acts like a rookie and not a commanding presence or engaging character but do like Alice, she is smart and determined.

While s little slower starting than some, this book makes up for it with a well developed set of characters, and a good storyline. It was a joy to read.

Project destiny
Very busy with enhanced solders fighting rebels and wondering which side is right. So many viscious bloody battles and then there is the hope of a romantic reunion.
