Order of the Regent

Rate this book
A dying kingdom. A fugitive queen. And the five knights who will fight to the death to defend them.

Lorelai D'Anjou's life has never been easy. The sole survivor of a dark magic that destroyed her entire family, she has spent the last eight years caring for the ailing, impotent monarch who saved her life and claimed her for his own.

When the king is murdered by his selfish brother, Lorelai's world is suddenly narrowed down to two choices: marry her husband's killer, or die. Now, she flees for her life, a fugitive in her own kingdom as she seeks allies to help her take back her stolen throne.

Thankfully, Lorelai is not without friends. The fierce, dashing knights of the Order of the Regent have always been loyal, and during her darkest hour, they come to her aid. Unfortunately, five knights are not enough to rally a kingdom, especially when assassins are nipping at Lorelai's heels, and doubt is brewing in the hearts of Valliere's great houses.

But Lorelai has never been one to give up, and she's not about to start now. Especially when the alternative is not just death, but the end of the entire world as she knows it...

2.5 meh stars

I started this book back in February but only made it about 30% at the time before I gave up. I’m trying to get some of those “started but not finished books” compete.

The plot it self was very exciting but I thought it was poorly executed, which in turn made it rather boring. The romance and set up for the harem was awkward to say the least and the characters were pretty flat and 2 dimensional.

In other words it just didn’t do it for me... sadly.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

I bounced between a 3 and 4 with this one. On one hand, this new series of reverse harem with the knights and a queen stuck in a lot of problems was pretty cool, you know? I knew Walt's work, I was new to Amade's, so getting to read about this different setting of suspense and adventure was exciting. It started off a little slow for me, but there were moments where it began to pick up. I liked that this was a slow build to the reverse harem that this series states it is, it's almost refreshing. I had a few slow moments again, and I actually kinda found the knights' brotherhood endearing. I'm still getting to know these characters so I can't say for sure whether I loved any of them or not. I can't seem to click, but I'll withhold judgement until the second book.

Yet again another great read from Jasmine Walt and Melle Amade. I really enjoyed reading Order of the Regent and am looking forward to book two in this series.
This book starts off with the female main character in a relationship already. That's unusual for this type of book and I was a bit worried at first as to what that would mean, but I didn't need to be as it's a crucial point to the story and cleverly done by the writers. This is a slow burn reverse harem story and the characters are all well crafted and each add something different but important to the story. I loved the medieval time feel to this book and the court intrigue and backstabbing that plays an important part.
It was exciting to read and I knew straight away the characters I liked and those I didn't. Bring on book two as I'm looking forward to what will happen next on their adventure. Five stars from me.

This was a good start to this series. I actually like all of these characters, which almost never happens. All of the knights are unique in their own way, and Lorelei doesn’t go around complaining about her circumstances even though she has plenty of reason too. Heroines that are strong on their own merit instead of us just being told repeatedly how amazing they are, are hard to come by. The Queen is one of them!

This was a good slow burn RH, but I loved the fantasy aspect of it, too. I like usurper stories and I think that the magic is going to add a lot to this story as we learn more about what the mages can do. Looking forward to the second one!

A great new reverse harem fantasy series with captivating magic and fierce heroes.
Lorelai ended up as a queen a bit unexpectedly, but that did not diminish her worth. Her husband, although sickly and impotent, was caring and thoughtful. However, murdered by his own brother, his widow was left with only two choices: death, or marriage to the murderer. Not excited about any of the two options, Lorelai joins her forces with the elite guardians, the order of the regent, and runs off for dear life. Moreover, this runaway opens her eyes not only when it comes to the life of the kingdom citizens, but to the true nature of magic as well.
I already knew the individual work of both co-authors, but I truly appreciate the cooperation. The resulting book is great and very enjoyable, combining the strengths of both authors in the best outcoming way. Fast pacing and suspenseful with lots of twists and catches, full of magic, drama, and suppressed emotions bursting out in heated moments. Slow burn romance develops into hot scene with a promise of more coming our way in the future. The set of main characters in miscellaneous and well-composed, with each strong individual contributing to the collective in a unique way. Lorelai as the mutual interest is a great heroine, strong personality with great charm and wits, and her knights are devoted, powerful, and utterly loyal. What more to wish for?
I especially appreciated the element concerning magical presence in this book. Being a mage is an asset but it comes at a high price, and Lorelai will be certainly desperate to avoid such a fate that awaits her after the discovery of her magical abilities. Moreover, I suspect we only got a peek into the magical potential in this first book, and I am really curious to get more information about how it all works.
Looking forward to read the next book in the series!

Absolutely awesome read!!!

Though Order of the Regent started off a *tad* slow for Walt's usual work, I truly enjoyed the world that Walt and Amade have created together! Lorelai is a poised, steady queen with a big heart and some really shitty luck. I loved her immediately, and found myself laughing and crying along with her!

The five knights of the Order of the Regent are SO endearing, and I LOVE their brotherly bond! Though the reverse harem element is much slower building (which I REALLY liked, and thought seemed SO realistic for there situation), I instantly loved every man that I assume will eventually be apart of Lorelai's harem.

One thing I truly adored about this book was the way the fantasy world incorporated the french language, and a bit of french heritage. As a French Canadian, this made me SO happy, and brought about special meaning to the book for me.

I recommend this book to any lover of fantasy romance, especially those infatuated with the reverse harem world (which is done VERY well so far)! I'm DYING to read book 2, and I hope it is just around the corner!

Lorelai has never had an easy life especially after dark magic killed her family and then she has been married and caring for her rescuer the King who has been sick and deteriorating for years. When his brother murders him she is given the choice between marrying him or dying. So she flees for her life trying to find allies to conquer him. She has 5 protectors on her journey - 5 knights of the Order of the Regent but they are not enough as they face rejection from the great houses of Valliere and assassins are chasing them across the kingdom. They must not give in if life is not to change irrevocably from what is was before.

There was just so much drama and danger in this story. The brother is just so evil and Lorelai so pure while being strong it works perfectly as opposing worlds. The 5 knights are to die for and so honourable and brave. This was well written and very enjoyable. Everything was well described and I could see the world and the people in it clearly in my mind as I read it. A great start to this new series that shows great promise going forward.

I received an ARC copy. And I admit I enjoyed reading this story! There was so much action and surprises. I felt so sad for Queen Lorelai and her King. But then i was totally rooting for Queen Lorelai and her 5 knights. I really adore cats, so when I found out she had a beloved Laircat named Elba i was super happy haha. Elba is totally kick-ass! As for the story itself. It's pretty interesting. I don't post spoilers in my reviews, i always think it's best for others to read for themselves and find out. So much better that way in my opinion. The queen's five knights all seem really smexy and strong and have their own attractiveness. The huge surprise towards the end was so unexpected. But i think that was AWESOME. I can't wait to see what happens next in Lorelai's story with Soulmate and her knights. And i hope they get to kick the new Evil King Guntram's butt...He is such an evil character.

What a very interesting and exciting new RH series. From the very start the book kept me captivated and I really felt that connection with Lorelai from the very beginning! You can really feel for a women who has very limited options in her situation! And who can past 5 knights who are there to protect and love her! I don’t want to give away the story but you can see that they are all going to become so much stronger together in future books and hopefully take back the kingdom. A really enjoyable part of the book is reading the POV from the knights, I love reading what they are thinking a feeling as well as it really helps the reader know them more! Hopefully in the next book we start to see Lorelai start to connect with all the knights and not just s couple of them. This is a fantastic start to a new series that is full of adventure, magic, love, death and suspense!!

Lorelei marries a king whose health declines. Before he can name her his successor, his brother kills him. Offered the choice of marrying the brother, Lorelei refuses and ends up in the dungeon, as two of the knights that were loyal to the deceased king. Lorelei is rescued and flees the country accompanied by Bruno, one of the knights of the Order of the Regents. After all of the knights are reunited with Lorelei, they find that she has many loyal subjects. There are a few twists that I will let the readers discover when they read the book. I don't want to spoil things. It is a great one!!!
I received an ARC of this book to review and it did not influence my enthusiasm for this book. Can't wait for the second one.

Alright

Took me awhile to actually get into this book. This is a little different from what Jasmine Walt normally writes (I have read everything she has published) and I found the whole knights this a little boring at first. I gave this four stars because the story began to pick up and started to become more interesting. A little bummed because just when the story was starting to get interesting g it ended. Booooo! Now I have to wait for the next book, I will definitely be reading that since the story has started to get good. So its a slow start but picks up.

Side note: I do wish Jasmine Walt would provide a glossary to explain some places and something to help pronounce the unusual names she uses. It weird trying to figure them out.

This is the first book in Jasmine Walt and Melle Amade's new series, that introduces readers to Queen Lorelai and her five knights, the Order of the Regent, Reyn, Bruno, Taron, Marrok, and Andre. While this is just the beginning of their story/adventure, the book is packed full of action, emotion, twist and turns, magic, and sexual tension that leads to some romance towards the end of the book. There was a good story line and great characters, I look forward to reading more about Lorelai and her knights in future books. ****This is a reverse harem series that contains cussing, explicit language, and sex (slow burn in my opinion).****

An epic, magical read!

A dying kingdom...
A fugitive queen...
And the five knights who will fight to the death to defend them...

A highly captivating, engrossing and intoxicating read that drew me in from the beginning. So much tension. So much action. So much adventure. So much love.

A truly richly read that will capture your interest right till the last word written. So cleverly written and magnificent world building.

Ugh. This book gave me all the feels - so enjoyable and entertaining!

Full of knights, saints, treason, betrayal, feelings, action, adventure, battles, mages, soulmates and love.

Perfect for readers of reverse harem fantasy romances.

This is excellent!

I really enjoyed this book. The intrigue in the kingdom was tense in the beginning, and once the running began, the knowledge came that the people loved the queen, Lorelei and not her usurper brother-in-law. The knights are handsome and brave and one is her soulmate. Well now it begins with a twist I really never saw coming! I look forward to the next book in the series because the enemies abound and the kingdom needs their queen. How will all play out? We can only wait and see!

This is a new to me author that I wanted to read because the premise of this story caught my attention. I liked the way Lorelai handled herself and was able to stand on her own. Having her "harem" around her is an added bonus. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series, and seeing how the dynamics between all the members of her guard play out. I have my favorite and I hope he gets his HEA/HFN.

Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Great start to what looks like another fantastic series. The character building gives us a clear picture of the displaced Queen Lorelei and her Knights. Especially as she grasps the reality of what her Knights mean to her & what she means to these Knights. We get to see the first battle as we begin to take back the kingdom stolen by Lorelei's brother-in-law.

I received an ARC of this book and have freely chosen to review it here.

It was ok. Don't get me wrong, the book was good, but it just didn't really draw me in. I wish there could have been more of some of the other knights, because it seems like this book focused more on Bruno. It seems like he got so much more time with the Queen than the others. I will still read the next book to see what happens next, but I really hope the other knights get more attention. Also, I want Guntram TO DIE. Or at least be imprisoned for the rest of his days. He is a jerk.

This one took a few mintes to get into, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. One queen, 5 knights, running for their lives, wanting to save a kingdom. As you read, you'll be wanting more backstory of each knight, they hook you, and it will come, but slowly. Very slow burn, magic is meant for others. As you reach the last page, you'll keep trying to turn to the next but the story is over for now. Pick it up today and devour it like I did.

2.5-3.7 stars. This one doesn't flow as smoothly as other books in the genre. I found the main character spoiled and the supporting romantic characters awkward. I'm sure with a few more books it will shape into something better. As for now the addition of magic and the associated dangers felt like a little too much. Especially since they were still sorting out their love triangle (or whatever shape would encompass that many people).

I love Lorelai D'Anjou, the star in Melle Amade’s Order of the Regent, and how she refuses to give up despite everything thrown at her. She’s lucky (in more ways than one - this is a RH series, after all) to have her five loyal knights of the Order of the Regent backing her. They’re in for a long but exciting path if this thrilling fun first series book is anything to measure by. But it’s going to be a great journey to follow along. As for this first book, I highly recommend it.

A good read

This is a good read and the only reason I did not give it five stars is because I don't really care for stories about castle's and knights and so on. Walt is a great storyteller and everything else she has written is a five star read and I will definitely check out other books by Amade.

Intense

This was a great reverse harem read, although there was no reverse harem in this book. I guess it will be gradual. I like the characters and the plot. There are a lot of twists and turns and two very distinct enemies. I am looking forward to the next book, and hope it does not take long to come out.

Not really worth your time

I struggled A LOT to finish this book. I thought if I just got passed the first few chapters it would pick up. It did a little, but in the end it dropped off again.

The story and plot are really boring. The theme is very cliche. The writing and detail are good, but the basic story is simply lacking.

This was a really fun Reverse Harem fantasy romance. The author's worldbuilding is excellent and her descriptive (especially one certain scene near the end of the book) skills are amazing. I loved the surprise twist toward the end. The men are great, but I have to say that my favorite character is Elba the laircat.

What an amazing start to this series!

Some backstabbing, romance and magic and exile to boot. If you like reverse harem and fantasy stories this is for you.

Fast paced and well written, there's a book boyfriend for all and a great plot!

Definitely not for children.
