I haven’t read too many books set in a hospital so was excited to meet Eye Contact. While I applaud this author’s authenticity and keen level of detail, especially with the in-depth medical terminology and procedures, I could not get into this book. I struggled with the pace of this story that was too slow for me. Additionally, I could not forge a connection to the characters or the storyline. I did not feel the connection between the hero and heroine either. I wanted to like this story . . . I really did. Disappointingly, it did not work for me at this time. However, I love second-chance stories and will likely give this one another go in the near future.

Eye Contact is an interesting read. Andie is an ER doctor. Andie is focused on her career and is totally comsumned by it. Andie doesn't do much but work. She had a good friend, Rowan. At first Andie was a little tough to connect with.

Andie is very professional but when Vaughn comes in as patient from a motorcycle accident she feels a pull to him. I liked Vaughn. He's a good guy. When he wakes up from a coma he know Andie is the one he's been looking for just by seeing her eyes. For him Andie is it. He comes on strong but he is super sweet.

These two have a lot to overcome to make a relationship work. There was a twist in the story that I never saw coming and it had me hoping for a miracle for them. I have to say toward the end it turned out to me an emotional read.

When you read this, be prepared for your heart to be ripped apart. This story was so unexpectedly good and so emotional. It started off slow, but the slow beginning laid the ground work for one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

Andie Fine is a trauma doctor at an ER. An accident patient comes in one night that Andie feels a strong connection to. Vaughn Bennett has overcome a lot of bad in his past. A set of eyes from his youth has haunted him, until the day he wakes up in the hospital to those same eyes. Andie and Vaughn have a great connection to each other. They have amazing chemistry as well. Andie was my favorite character. She’s a different type of lead character than you expect but I think it works. She reminds me of Temperance Brennan from Bones. I was a huge fan of Vaughn as well. He is such a good person, to go through what he did for someone else. He didn’t blink or question Andie about what she was going through, he was just there for her.

I truly loved this book and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more books by this author.

Powerful in its subject matter and well-written by a new-to-me-author. Two main characters full of depth and interesting backgrounds. A burden two people should never have to carry -- and the power of love so full of giving. I don't think I have it in me to be so strong and able.

I wanted more at the end -- the reason for 4 stars. After coming so far with Andie and Vaughn, I just found several hanging ends and wanted to see more of a happily-ever-after between the two of them -- perhaps several years after this story ends.

Eye Contact by Stacey Grice is the story of Andie and Vaughn.
Andie saved Vaughn when they were younger when she found him being beaten by some kids. Vaughn doesn't remember much from that day but he does remember Andie's eyes. They were the first eyes that looked at him with caring and that he mattered. But they didn't know each other and when he was able to get out of the hospital he started looking for her. Never finding her and now all these years later he is an artist drawing her eyes. Andie is now a Dr who is constantly working and one day a car/motorcycle accident victim comes into the hospital. Andie feels like seh knows him and is drawn to him. When Vaughn wakes up in a hospital the first things he sees is those eyes that he has been looking for...and they are attached to them most beautiful women. But can he convince her that he is more than just her patient?
I enjoyed reading their story overall.

Perhaps if you can’t get someone out of your mind, they’re supposed to be there.

Eye Contact is a unique standalone novel. It is so many stories wrapped up into one. It is romantic, sad, heart breaking and a love story. Andie and Vaughn meet as kids under extreme circumstances. It was brief and then it was over. The way they met made an impact on both of them. As a result, Vaughn has never been able to forget her. Vaughn can’t seem to forget the way Andie looked at him and their intense eye contact. Her eyes haunt him.

Fate steps in and over twenty years later they meet, once again, under extreme circumstances. Andie is a successful trauma surgeon and Vaughn is her patient. She saves Vaughn’s life but doesn’t know who he is. When he wakes from a coma he sees her, or more specifically, her eyes. The eyes that he cannot forget.

Never before had I felt such a bizarre connection-if you want to even call it that-with a patient before. An energy, or pull….something was peculiar about him.

As I stated above this is a very unique story. The characters are complex. As you dive deeper into the story it becomes even more complex. Stacy Grice will fill you with angst, grit and a heavy dose of reality. Delivering one emotional punch after another.

After reading the blurb I had envisioned a certain boy-meets-girl, boy-reunites-with-girl type of story. It was anything but that. It is an intense read. There are several twists that I could never imagine that occur. The complicated layers are pulled together in the last quarter of the story.

I loved the characters. Andie is amazing! She is so smart, nerdy, caring and socially awkward. Andie is also candid and honest. She has a gentle way of dealing with people. Although it was not the main part of the story, I loved the relationship that she had with her dad. Her strength can move mountains.

And Vaughn…I loved him as well. I would have liked to know him better, but the story has a stronger focus on Andie. Vaughn is so honest and heartfelt. He has a beautiful and tortured soul. Although he is not an alpha male, he is loving, kind and supportive. A gentle spirit.

“You’re so different from anyone I’ve ever met, in every way. I just…like you, Andie.”

Eye Contact is very well written. This story is heavy. The topics are very real. It is an emotional investment. It is very detailed. Stacy Grice does an amazing job describing circumstances and medical situations. I am in the medical field so I understood the situations. I am not so sure how a non-medical person would feel about certain parts of the story. Although that could be written to evoke emotions. And it will bring out a lot of emotions.

Vaughn and Andie were a great couple. They balanced each other out and understood what the other person needed. The only part of the story not detailed is the sexy times between Vaughn and Andie. It could have given a bit more chemistry between them. I had also hoped for a little more in the epilogue. I am admittedly an epilogue junkie. Without giving away the story I was hoping for a little more in their future.

My first book from Stacey Grice, a new author to me, was quite a surprise.
I really enjoyed it, the medical part is great, the connection between the characters amazing and the whole plot very emotional.

I must confess that the first 30% of the book was a bit slow, but after that was a whirlwind of events. Some I was expecting and others I never saw coming.

I loved Vaughn and Andie sense of humor, the way they complete each other, all the connection since childhood... it's just beautiful!

Chapter 38 made me laugh out loud!! Yes, we need this kind of reality in fiction, makes the story and the connection with the characters even better, but soon everything comes crashing down and tears start running down my face until Chapter 59 where I ugly cry!

This book is beautiful! Their story is so original and something you don't read everywhere.
So, if you're looking for a great read, give Eye Contact a chance, you will be amazed!

Love can happen when you least expect it and in the unlikeliest place.

That’s how it finds Andie and Vaughn....two people with the weight of the world trying to just survive. With feelings of “knowing” someone, Vaughn and Andie must overcome so much.

Throw in real life complications, family and work and you’ve got a wild ride for these two.

Get the tissues ready!

The first few pages I found myself tensed up so into the story! I knew just from that it was going to be a good story but I didn't know it was going to be "that good"! I laughed and cried....i actually boo hoo' d like a baby, just like the first time I saw "The Notebook". This is the third Stacey Grice book I have read and cannot wait for more. She has a way of making it so real. Real people, raw emotion and tough subject matter. I want more of this!

4.5 stars - ARC provided by the very talented Stacey Grice

I read the synopsis for this book and figured it would be a typical romance: boy meets girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy and girl live happily ever ever. Not so with Eye Contact. This story is wonderfully unique with little twists that take you by surprise.

One of the things I loved most is all the medical references. I know what you're thinking - bulky terminology that is hard to figure out? Yuck! But this is not the case at all. All the procedures and tools lended a genuine quality to the story. It felt real because what was being referenced was real. I joked with the author that Grey's Anatomy could learn a thing or two from her because GA is more soap opera than medicine. This book is just the opposite, which is fantastic. The author has a background in medicine, and I love the fact that she wrote what she knows. It makes the story feel very authentic.

There are also little real-life relationship moments that I loved. There's one scene in particular where the main character does something very human in front of her significant other, taking both by surprise. I don't want to give it away, but I will say, it had me laughing out loud.

In truth, this would've been a 5-star read for me except for two things. One, the male lead goes through something major earlier in life, and I would've expected that to change him, but it didn't. Two, the female lead has a special kind of skill that is not used in a very important situation.

Other than that, though, the book was incredible and like nothing I've ever read before. During some parts I laughed; during others, I cried. It was a beautiful, heart-wrenching story I won't soon forget.

Best roller coaster ever

As soon as the story begins, if you are an empath like me, then you are immediately involved and cheering on our heroes of the story. The characters are so relatable that you feel all the emotions with them throughout their journey. Beautifully written with no smut since it's not the main objective for you to focus on. I am so proud of Stacey and so grateful she shared this story with us.

4.5 stars!

I read an ARC of this author's debut book way back in 2014 and I'm not sure why I didn't continue with the second book in the series! The author then approached me and asked me if I'd like to sign up for events for this book, so I decided to review because the synopsis intrigued me! I'm really happy I did because this book was really, really good! I will admit that there was a lot of description in this book, which I normally don't like, but all of it was relevant and added to the plot! The plot developed at a nice pace and it kept me wanting to read on and find out what was going to happen next! It started with a bit of a bang too and then had quite a few twist and turns as it progressed! The romance in the plot was also very beautiful and I liked that it developed slowly and it wasn't instant! The romance allowed for a few hot scenes too and they were pretty hot! The plot also went in a different direction that I was expecting and it got very emotional! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Andie was the main female character, and in this book she worked in a hospital, which meant that she worked long hours and worked very, very hard! This made me have a lot of respect for her! Andie was also easy for me to connect with and I didn't lose that connection with her! I liked that she got nervous around her love intertest at the beginning too and then her confidence grew! My heart also went out to Andie in this book, but I don't want to say too much because it's a spoiler! Vaughn was the main male character and love intertest of Andie! It actually took a while for Vaughn to actually come into this book, but that would be a spoiler if I told you why lol! I loved Vaughn when he was in this book though! He was such a sweetheart and I loved the way he was with Andie too! She was stubborn, but Vaughn refused to give up lol! It was easy to see Vaughn's feelings develop for Andie as well and he really cared for her! Vaughn had also been through a lot, but he had come a long way and made a good life for himself! I loved that this book was written from both Andie and Vaughn's point of views! I was hoping that it was going to be after I read the synopsis, so I'm really happy that it was! It added a lot to the plot, especially as the characters were going through their own issues and spent some time apart! It helped me connect more with both characters too! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! I really wish that it wasn't because I would love to read more on Andie and Vaughn, but the ending was left at the perfect place for the characters and was very beautiful! All the questions raised in the plot were answered too! I still have one of this author's other releases to read and I'll definitely be reading it soon! I can't wait to find out what this author is going to release next too! The cover for this book is also perfect for it! It really suits the feel of the book and it matches the title perfectly too! It would make me click on it if I saw it whilst scrolling through Amazon too! Big thank you to Stacey and Give Me Books for an ARC of Eye Contact!

I had the pleasure of reading the ARC for Eye Contact. This is my first book to read by Stacey Grice and it did not disappoint. A beautiful and touching story and one that will stay with you.

Vaughn Bennett is an ocularist, an artist who paints prosthetic eyes. When he was in sixth grade, he was picked on by some boys from school. He was the new kid. Not even three weeks later they nearly beat him to death. Barely able to keep his eyes open, he hears her voice. When he looks up he sees an angel with mesmerizing eyes. A pair of eyes he would never forget. She saved his life. He searched and sketched those eyes for over twenty-two years, wondering if he would ever find her.

Dr. Andie Fine is the trauma surgeon on call the same night Vaughn was brought to the ER after being struck by an SUV while riding his motorcycle. When she approaches him, she has this strange feeling like she knows him from somewhere. His body starts to shut down and he's rushed into surgery. Waking up from a medically induced coma, he sees the pair of mesmerizing eyes and the ones staring back at him are Dr. Andie Fine.

"My God. She was beautiful. When I'd heard her voice before, it sounded so far away and ethereal, I was sure she was an angel--but there she was, in my room, all too real. The eyes that consumed my daydreams and nightmares for years may very well have been right in front of my face."

Andie has the next two days off. Her closest friend Rowan stops by to visit. She's a PA in the same ER at the hospital. Rowan rounded on Andie's patient and said Vaughn asked about her and was disappointed she wasn't there. Teasing maybe he has the hots for her and she should hook up with him. Andie refuses to admit she's interested in Vaughn and reminds Rowan he's her patient. Andie is back at work and it's late once she's done with surgery. She figured Vaughn would be asleep and wouldn't know she stopped by to take a peek. Knowing she should stay away she couldn't fight the pull and when his room comes into view they instantly make eye contact. Every time she's close to Vaughn he distracts her. It confuses and scares her because she's never had these feelings before. Vaughn doesn't give up because he has to have her. She tries to deny her feelings but it's hard to do when you know it's fate.

Vaughn is so unbelievably sweet and caring when it comes to Andie. He truly loves her and you can't help but fall in love with him. They have a deep connection. Shocking secrets from the past come forward and new ones arise putting their relationship to the test in making their relationship work. This story will capture your heart, break it and put it back together again.

"Those eyes...If I had to pick one thing, just one image to look at for the rest of my life, of all the remarkable and beautiful things on his entire planet, it would be her eyes. They would swallow me up for as long as she would allow me to gaze into them."

Where to start...

Eye Contact was a surprise to me. I love this author and I was so excited to read her next novel. I started reading, intending to dive in and finish it in one sitting. That didn't happen. The first chunk of the book is setting the scene, so it was a bit slow for me. There was one chapter in particular that read like a medical terminology book in anatomy and physiology class. Being that it's a medical setting and the hero and heroine are an ocularist and a trauma surgeon, you might expect a certain level of medical references, but it was a lot. I put it down to come back to it later. And I'm so glad I did.

It's almost like the author stepped away and came back with a stronger voice and new direction at the 40% mark. The second half of the book is so much more concisely written and just reels you in. While the first half took several days to read, I devoured the second half without putting it down! Couldn't! Had to keep reading! Due to the circumstances in the story, it doesn't feel like an instalove plot. The build is quick and intense once you get there in the story, but makes sense. There's enough heat without the detailed descriptions of sexy times. This is a story of life, with a romance intertwined.

I loved Vaughn. At first, I wasn't sure, but he sure grew on me really quickly! And Andie. Her apprehensions were real and necessary, but her heart knew. She knew. And the strength of character the author depicted through her was just amazing. And Rowan. Everyone needs a best friend like Rowan. Loud and boisterous, but always there in a moment, being overbearing, but in the best possible ways. And Angela. I kept expecting her to be trouble, maybe have a crush on Vaughn or something, but she always came through. And Ms. Hattie!!! She was a great character and towards the end of the book, she brought tears into my eyes a few times. She's real and relatable, and everything you would hope for from a foster mom.

I certainly wasn't expecting that epilogue. I was expecting your standard wrap it up in a bow and they all live happily every after. But was it ever the perfect ending. I cried. Real tears. It was so beautiful. And real.

Don't let the slow build from the first part of the book sway you from continuing, because boy is it ever worth it! Stay the course for one of the most unique stories of life and love that I’ve read. This one will stay in my mind for a while. Great read...

My first Stacey Grice book, but surely not my last.

Stacey's 3rd book is Eye Contact and I would have never known this.  Her writing is flawless, beautiful and drew me in immediately.

From the moment I met Vaughn my heart was with him.  Growing up in foster homes, not receiving the love that every child needs, my heart broke for him.

Andie was a young girl whose love of science and medicine started as a child and she has made it her life.  As a trauma surgeon, she's given the chance to help a young man whose life is on the precipice of ending.  Her smart, intuitive self, saves Vaughn with her quick thinking.

There is a spark, the moment they touch, the moment Vaughn sets his eyes on her.  Their attraction palpable.

To watch these two get to know each other was an intimate look into their lives that I feel honored to have been given a glimpse into.

Stacey Grice's writing made me feel as though I was part of their lives, happy and sad times.  The "feels" were there which is something I need in a book.  I need a book to evoke emotions and make me want the best for the characters and that's exactly what I loved about this story.  Vaughn is vulnerable and willing to share that will Andie and that made him even more attractive. Andie is strong and is confident in her abilities and that was one of the many things that Vaughn found attractive in her.  Not your typical strong man/weak female characters as we often see but somewhat of a role reversal.

My only, could I even say criticism, was that I was hoping to see the strong man that Vaughn was in the epilogue.  I was waiting to see him take care of Andie as he always did, but taking control more and to be the strong hero that he truly was.

5 Mesmerizing Stars

So this is the first book by Stacey Grice that I have had the pleasure of reading. I have to start out with, this book is MESMERIZING, just like the eyes that saved the life of Vaughn Bennett. I literally couldn't put this book down.

This is the kind of book that you pulls you in. It makes you laugh out loud and it makes you cry. You feel what the characters are feeling and you just need more.

Andie Fine is a trauma surgeon that is amazing at her job. She knows what she wants, and she goes after it. Nothing will get in the way of her career, the one that she has worked so hard at. She is incredible smart, hard working, a little introverted and totally hot.

Vaughn Bennett didn't have the ideal childhood early on, but after being placed in a Foster home with Mrs. Hattie, he learned what it was like to love. When he was 11, he had a few moments to look into a pair of eyes, that literally saved his life. He has spent the next 20 something years looking for that pair of eyes. Those eyes, gave him so much more to live for.

The love that these two characters feel, is strong and deep. It is a connection that is definitely meant to be. Their relationship is fast, and it gets put through some major tests. The trials that this young couple go through, are more than what one heart feels like it can take on.

Stacey did an amazing job and telling their story, and doing so in a way that captures your heart. You feel your heart break and you feel your heart being put back together. This is a story of love between not only this couple, but the love of family and friends too. Thank you Mrs. Grice for this amazing story! I can't wait for the world to get be taken hold, by Eye Contact.

Eye Contact by Stacey Grice is the story of Andie and Vaughn. Andie saved Vaughn’s life when they were younger years before when she found him being beaten by some kids. He doesn’t have much memory from that day but he does remember Andie’s beautiful eyes. Years later we see that Andie is an ER doctor and is so totally consumed by her job, like she just works and works. Andie has a good friend named Rowan who tries to get her to go out and date but Andie is all about her job. Then everything changes when Andie gets a patient from a motorcycle accident. She feels incredibly drawn to him…comes to find out, its Vaughn. He was in a terrible accident from the motorcycle crash and was in a coma. When he wakes up from the coma to find Andie as one of his doctors, he knows she is the one he has been looking for by just looking at her eyes. I will say this is a good 2nd chance romance story , although it is a slow starting first half of the book but things really start moving by the 2nd half and wow there is so much angst, drama, pain, anger, heartache, passion , emotions and love. It’s a love story that will pull you in and keep you reading until the ending. A bit technical in the medical terminology which didn’t need to be used but overall, was a good romance love story.

A second chance at love story like no other! It was a bit slow out of the gate, but once you were about at the half way point, it picked up and pulled you in and didn't let you go until you tearfully ended the book. An amazing story that begins when Andie and Vaughn are just children and he is brutally attacked by some boys at his school, Andie saves him by keeping him company, awake and still until help arrives. Then he's gone and she never sees him again. They reunite in a way that to me, brings them full circle. She saves him yet again, but in doing so, begins to bring to life, to real life, her own existence.

Their love is tested in a most traumatic way, but rather than tearing them apart, they are brought together and their love grows even stronger. Without giving anything away, just make sure that you have some tissues handy right before you end this book. It is heartbreaking, but it is also life affirming as the same time.

The first half of the book, you may need to push through, but when you hit the second half, get ready. An exquisitely told story will have your heart swollen and your eyes filled. I do recommend this book.

4.5 STARS! "Eye Contact" is the first book I've read by Stacey Grice, and it has started a beautiful appreciation of her words. I was enticed by the cover and the blurb of the story, eager to get my hands on this book, and I wasn't disappointed in any way. Stacey made me laugh, swoon and cry. She taught me. I don't normally seek out books pertaining to the medical field, partially because I feel like I would get lost among the terminology, but Stacey introduced a lot to me in such a way that I wasn't overwhelmed and it was natural to the story and characters. It's obvious she has a ton of knowledge in the field which allowed a lot of authenticity to her characters and the events that played out in "Eye Contact". Stacey writes beautifully, with descriptions that are a mixture of matter-of-fact and poetic. Stacey's characters are flawed, so relatable in that way, but also different from most people I know, which kept me intrigued. I highly recommend giving Stacey Grice, and "Eye Contact", your undivided attention.

This book broke me!

This was my first book by this author and I had so many feelings in all honesty this book broke me but the ending have me such peace! I'm going to try to review this without give much away but honestly it's hard. Vaughan and Andie are by far the two strongest, bravest hero and heroine I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Annie is a trans surgeon who lives eat and breathes her job. Until an accident victims changes everything. Vaughan had been haunted by a pair of eyes from a girl who rescued him when he was younger. As a brilliant artist he has tried to recapture her face but the only thing he can remember are her eyes. 20 years later after waking up from a coma there they are. Annie doesn't want to get involved with a patient but Vaughn will stop at nothing. But just when there finally together gate steps in. The circumstances these two went through broke me but it turned a horrible tragedy in to something lifesaving for others.

Fate brings Andie and Vaughn back together as Andie saves his life once again. Vaughn has been searching for her since she saved his life as a child, remembering only her eyes.

So that's all I'm going to say about the story. I was expecting this to be a sweet contemporary romance but it was so much more. It ripped me apart before putting me back together. It was a challenging read in parts as it brought up some sensitive issues. It challenged my constructs and forced me to reconsider them. I will say that Andie is one brave and courageous woman for the way she handled what was a very distressing situation. I felt I was on an emotional roller coaster of a ride that I didn't want to get off, despite the copious amount of tissues I went through.

This book was pretty special. I loved the detail in it. Andie and Vaughn have a connection. I love that fate plays a factor in this story. I had goosebumps in this story. It felt real, concise, meant to be for these two.

Vaughn had a hard upbringing. The prologue, oh my goodness, my heart, I felt it break for him. I immediately was drawn into their story. Present day, they're brought back together, she feels different. I love that the author really didn't drag out the who whole "well, we met before". It was revealed to Andie earlier than I thought.

I loved their story. They're perfect together. I thought this book was incredible, powerful, fascinating and there was so much detail in this book. This book has a lot of medical references, so be ready. There is a bigger message as a whole, but I will let you figure that one out once you read it, but definitely grab this book!

Andie has always been so career driven and very focused. Enter Vaughn, a motorcycle accident patient. Andie is drawn to him. Vaughn is determined to win her over.

This is my first book by this author. It won't be my last. Very well written with a good story to tell. I loved what the author did with educating us on something, but I do not want to give it away. It was done perfectly.

☆☆☆☆
I give this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.

So I liked this book but I am also in the medical field so I understood more of what was going on when the characters were saying or doing things. If you love medical drama and romance, you will like this book. But I can see some not due to the terminology alone. I get people in the medical field talk a little different but it just seemed to be a little over kill for me. As a reader, I was thinking "so many people are gonna be lost".

Eye Contact is a full circle journey of growth, the willingness to thrive, and the knowledge that you shall prevail. A gripping storyline with raw emotion, this story will stay with you long after you finish reading the last chapter.

You would never know that this is only Stacey’s third novel. Her words take on the appearance of a well seasoned author. Her subject knowledge, pace, and flow were spot on. At times the story was hard to digest but it was written with care. The thoughts and actions of these characters may not fall into traditional molds, however the style in which they are presented will leave you well entertained.

Stacey Grice delivers another wonderful love story complete with twists no one would see coming.

Eye Contact made me a laugh and made me cry. The story of Andie and Vaughn comes to life in such a relatable way that I didn't want the book to end. It's touching and raw in parts and funny and light in others.

This is a MUST READ!!
