A nerdy high school senior transforms into a vampire vixen who's unaware that her hunky date for prom is the slayer sent to destroy her.
Morgan Taylor-Jackson can't wait for high school to end. In six months she leaves for UCLA and says goodbye to La Jolla, California and her parents' messy divorce. But when Morgan is bitten by a four-year-old boy, she becomes infected with a mysterious condition. Fever, insomnia, and a new bustline are only the beginning; Morgan morphs from nerd to bombshell.
As far as Van Xander is concerned, all vampires are evil, even the ones who reject human sacrifice and call themselves Puritans. When Helsing Incorporated sends Van to La Jolla to investigate the local coven, Morgan is his prime target. Pretending to be interested in her, Van asks Morgan out and puts her through a series of tests to determine her killer nature.
Morgan is thrilled to be dating a hot guy like Van and falls for him hard. As Van strings Morgan along, he grows increasingly guilty. Morgan is kind, compassionate, and a gooey romantic. Just as Van's mind begins to change, evil forces threaten everything. When prom night arrives, there are only two ways out of the ballroom: death or immortality.
Louise Cypress believes in friendship, true love, and the everlasting power of books. She has never met a vampire, but she has been to a Love Sucks concert on Valentine’s Day. Louise can often be found curled up with a romance novel on Saturday night, diet soda in hand, secretly wishing bustles were back in fashion. Louise lives in San Diego, California, where the beach is crowded and summer is immortal.
Morgan can't wait for the next six months to be up as she will be off studying at UCLA and away from her overbearing mother who has just decided to start dating Lucas which means that his daughter will be her new potential stepsister. It would be ok, but they are in two different cliques at school as Morgan is near the bottom of the school hierarchy and her new stepsister to be is right at the top. Morgan goes with her mother to their house for dinner where she meets Lucas, Emery and her "cousin." Lucas's nephew is a wild one as he bites Morgan and soon Morgan will start transforming as without her knowledge she is slowly becoming a blood-sucking vampire. Van is part of the Helsing family aka Vampire Slayers, and there has been some strange activity happening in La Jolla and his family have been sent to investigate. Van gets in the good books with Morgan with the intention of slaying her, but soon he will learn that she is oblivious and has no idea what is happening to her. With the help of his family, Lucas's and Daisy's - her stepmother's father Sunny, Morgan will have to learn how to control herself and become part of The Puritan Coven or else face the consequences of death through staking. Bite Me was a good read as I had gone off a lot of vampire and fantasy reads as they had all started blurring into one and overlaying the same plot. What I loved about this book was it reminded me of Mari Mancusi's Boys Who Bite series, Vampire Beach, and Blue Bloods. The teen Vampire books that I grew up reading before they got all sexual and full-on paranormal/supernatural.
Sometimes I just get in the mood for a paranormal romance. I've been reading less of this genre lately and I miss it.
This is a young adult book, with the characters being in high school so naturally they feel and act young. I don't know that I really felt connected emotionally to the characters, but I did enjoy the story. I really liked Morgan. She is a kind person and that always resonates with me.
The whole vampire romp can get to feeling very cliche because how many different ways can you really do vampire, right? I thought the author did a good job of giving me some slightly varied ideas and scenarios so this felt like it's own story and set it apart from others. I liked that for most of the story Morgan really had no idea what she had become.
Overall I liked the story. There are two more books in this series as of right now and I've got them on my list to read when that paranormal urge strikes me. They are all on Kindle Unlimited so that is good news for me!
Content: kissing (I can't actually remember exact content details, sorry! It's been a few weeks since I read it. oopsy)
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Before I started this novel I figured I wouldn’t enjoy it because I am kinda over the whole vampire thing. Man was I wrong, I completely was sucked into the pages of this novel. Bite Me is an utterly engrossing book filled with vampires, romance, and so much suspense.
I finished this book in two days because when I picked up this book, I just couldn’t put it down. I just had to know what came next and had to read the next page. I found myself wanting to finish all my to-do list just to get back into the storyline. That is how I know a book is good!
I absolutely loved the main character, Morgan. She was super fun and honestly throughout most of the book I found myself rooting for her. I was wishing I could help her sort her crap out. She was so sweet but had so much emotional turmoil going on in her life.
Also, another character I really enjoyed was Van. I found myself really enjoying him. Even with what happened, and I won't spoil you I found myself wishing things would somehow work out. He was a super strong character. He was always helping others out. He was a great male lead.
I enjoyed the varying points of view between both Van and Morgan. It made the story interesting and shed light on some interesting things. It gave the reader a lot of insight into each character and into the story as a whole.
Overall this was a very action-packed book, that I believe most readers will enough even if you had enough of vampires for a while. I rated this book four stars. I hope you will check it out.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Rockstar book tours in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. All thoughts are my own and do not reflect this fact.
This book was not at ALL like I thought it would be to be honest XD;; I was expecting some kind of cliche'd vampire romance novel, but instead I got a pretty neat coming-of-age story where the main character just happens to be a vampire... that doesn't know they're a vampire.
I thought the difference in the typical "vampirism" was well thought out and different, with only the vampires who drank human blood being like your typical "cliche'd" vampires (y'know... immortality, flying, turning into bats, etc.) while those who abstained from blood ("Puritans") being more human, and actually aging as a human did. The explanation of was an interesting take on the trope, and I liked how .
The way in which Morgan was turned into a vampire (getting bitten by a toddler) made me laugh more than I expected, because I was 100% envisioning Oz from Buffy the Vampire Slayer getting turned into a werewolf by his baby cousin and I just loved having that visual in a vampire novel. Of course, finding out that was creepy as heck and definitely detracted from the adorableness of a toddler vampire ._.
The final battle being during prom once again reminded me of Buffy (anyone remember the prom with the hell hounds?), and seemed rather cliche'd (why is it ALWAYS PROM), but overall wasn't too bad. I did feel that didn't really make that much sense considering but the ending wasn't too bad overall.
I also have to applaud the author for because I was definitely expecting the cliche'd so that NOT being the case was a nice change ;D
I AM pretty pissed that though. Not cool :|
Also, the and I really wish that had been better explained :|
Still, a fun read regardless, and I enjoyed reading this quite a bit c:
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
At 70%: The first half of the book was good; honestly couldn't put it down. But now I am at 70% & I don't really want to finish it. It has become slightly boring - Tired of hearing the word Vamparism blood. Morgan's character has somewhat dwindled. I am @ a part where there is more insight on Daris; along with Emsa & Lukas. So that is interesting."
I started out thinking that this would be a great book. Girl gets turned into a vampire but doesn't know it. Vampire slayer falls in love with her. Could be pretty good. But then Morgan gets bitten by a 4 year old, who's actually 14 and likes to see teenage girls turned into vampires because they get bigger boobs? That totally turned me off from the book. And that is just really sick and creepy. I did read the entire book, and it was an ok story. But the ending was horrible! Half the school dies or gets turned into vampires at Prom? And all of a sudden things with her mom are great, when they've been fighting through the whole book? Not one of my favorite reads.

Story: 4 starsNarration : 5 starsOverall: 4.5 stars. For years now I have loved paranormal romances and in the last year I have discovered that I like YA paranormal romances too. When I had the opportunity to listen to the Puritan Coven Series I couldn't pass up the opportunity.Bite Me is set in the last year of high school in the lead up to Prom and is the first book in the Puritan Coven Series. When Van starts to show an interest in Morgan and invites her to prom, she has no idea that she has become a Vampire, or that Van is a slayer whose intent is to spy on her and ultimately to slay her.The dual point of view story is an enjoyable mix of teen angst, humour, Vampire horror and teenage romance. Without giving any spoilers (don't you hate those!) I can reveal that this story has a few surprises up it's sleeve. The writing maintains a regular pace that works perfectly for the story-line and speeds up as the story progresses. The narrators both did a wonderful job with both the main characters and the other array of characters. Both Reba Buhr and Alexander Cendese gave distinct voices to the characters they were playing and did a wonderful job creating the right mood for each moment.I cannot wait for the rest of this series.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Louise Cypress. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
when I picked up this book I figured I would enjoy it but never realized I would be sucked into the pages so completely. From the first chapter I couldn't stop reading and found myself struggling through work to be able to pick the book up again.
I loved Morgan. I usually don't like the female main characters but she won me over and i was a fan the rest of the book. I felt sorry for her and wished I could help her sort things out. she was such a sweet girl with a lot of emotional turmoil to sort through.
I also swooned over van. I knew who he was since you are told in the beginning but I couldn't help hold out hope things would somehow work out. I think he was a strong character and helped out others in the book more than any of them realized.
The author alternates between Morgan and Vans point of view and I loved that about the story. it gave you insight from both sides as well as kept the suspense build up as the pages got flipped through. by the end of the book I was on pins and needles wonder what was going to happen!
if you are into vampires, romance, and suspense this book is definitely one you need to sink your teeth into.
Bite Me is the first in the Puritan Coven trilogy. This is a unique take on the vampire genre and was a really fun read. Morgan gets bitten by a vampire and finds herself going through a major transformation. Van comes from a long line of slayers who finds himself struggling with wanting to slay Morgan and wanting to date her.
This was a really cute and fun book. It has the humor and campiness that I love in a book like this. The characters were interesting and were ones that I am looking forward to reading more about in the rest of the trilogy. I especially loved Van. He was my favorite out of the group. He and Morgan were really cute together.
I had a lot of fun listening to the audio version. I liked the dual narrators. It made Van and Morgan's perspectives a lot more enjoyable. The book is a clean read and would be great for all YA readers. I highly recommend it.
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
I am partial to stories about vampires and all things goth. This book to me was amazing, I could not put it down, before I knew it the book was over. I am totally in love with the main character Morgan and am interested to see where her relationship with the Slayer Van will go! I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I am absolutely in love with this book and will surly read it again!
Reviewed on http://bookaddict.live, I loved this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. In this book we get to know Morgan’s story. Morgan’s mother Susan takes her to meet Lucas her new beau and its serous. When they arrive the daughter of the house is Esme who goes to the same school as Morgan. They are both in there last term before graduation. Both girls are shocked when their parents tell them they are moving in together. While in the bathroom Morgan is attacked and unconscious on the floor. This is about Morgan and Van and how they become a couple. There is so much going on, and so tongue in check. I loved it. Especially Promagedden when all hell breaks out . You have to listen the narrators are great
Really enjoyed reading this one. Vampire (unknown to her at first) and slayer. I liked the idea of the Puritan group that could survive on a certain diet that didn't include humans. There was a little humor and some action. It mainly revolved around Morgan finding out and dealing with her new status. The slayers were a family and worked together with each having their own talents. It ended well but open enough for more stories. Overall this was a great read and I will look for more by Cypress. I received an ebook at no charge for which I voluntarily provided an honest review.
I received this book in the mail on a Friday to review from Jennifer Bardsley aka the ya gal and she asked people on FB to review a new book that was coming out in May 14th by Louise Cypress. Yes I am huge vampire lover. once I started reading it the first page, I was immediately hooked. I loved all the characters. if you want a book to sink your teeth into or a steak into, this is a book for you! I can't wait for everyone to read this book! can't wait for book 2!
It's vampire vs. slayer where two high school seniors must hide their true identities in order to survive. Is it possible to fall in love with one's mortal enemy? Told with humor and snappy dialogue, this thrilling beginning to The Puritan Coven series by Louis Cypress will leave you guessing until the very end. Readers who like Twilight will enjoy this.
It was something different and I liked it but it would be a one time read only. The main character Morgan doesn't know she has turned into vampire, that part was different and fun. But I didn't felt chemistry between her and Van. I liked the overall plot and action and may continue the series to know happens to this Puritan group and Gwen. Received an arc for honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this Vamp paranormal book. I know the series has been out for a white now but I just came across it the other day. It definitely has my vote of approval!
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Remixed Bite Me by Louise Cypress is an excellent book. It reminded me so much of Buffy the Vampire Slayer mixed up. I am very impressed with this book a lot. Ms. Cypress is able to do a lot from the two different point of views she used in the book. And within those two different points of view, we got to know all the characters they were around, who the point of view characters are, and with how well they are dealing with this situation.
Morgan The first main character is Morgan and she’s the first point of view we read from in the book. For me, I was able to relate to the character so much, especially about what life was like in high school. Except for the turning into a vampire, having a crazy mom and an actual good father. Morgan is a really great kid who doesn’t even like scary things which is kind of funny, you know because of what she is now. What I like about Morgan is that she isn’t afraid to speak her mind. She is also a bit naïve about certain things but that can’t be blamed. What I don’t like about her is that she makes some rash decisions and that she didn’t believe that she is a vampire at first. In my mind from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Morgan is Angel (you know the vampire with the soul, Buffy’s first boyfriend).
Van The second main character is Van and he’s the other point of view we read from in the book. For me, the only thing I was able to relate to from the character is the moving around. We didn’t move around every six months but we moved. Van is a pretty nice guy when he isn’t in his slayer mode and I like that about him. Van can also be a douche about some things and that is one of the things that I dislike about him and the other is that he could have handled telling Morgan a bit better about vampires than the way he did. The things that I like about him are he is a slayer but he is also good to his sister. Van can also be a little overprotective of his sister, which is cute. He is a good guy around Morgan. In my mind from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Van is Buffy.
Big Evil Now this one I don’t want to actually spoil it. It’s a big part of the main overall plot of the story and I don’t want to ruin it. That’s one thing that I hate about some books is spoiling the best part for some people. Anyways this big evil doesn’t exactly show up for a while in the book and it’s a crucial plot point for me to not spill. I know for a fact that you might not see the big evil coming until its already too late. That’s all I can really tell you. In my mind from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer the Big Evil is Drusilla.
Watch for the prom and let me know if it reminds you of anything. I would so tell you more but no spoilers today.
Five Stars Bite Me by Louise Cypress is an excellent book and I can’t wait to read the next one. I am giving this book five stars as I couldn’t sleep at all last night, I had to finish this book. I am recommending this book to all my readers out there that are young adult fans that also like paranormal romance and of course are into Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Hunt Me is next book in the Puritan Coven Series and it will be released Monday, May 21st, 2018.
Anyways until next time enjoy this review brought to you by Baroness’ Book Trove.

In this comical three-book series, Cypress explores the depth of friendship, intimacy…and the undead. What would you do if one day you woke up and nothing fit you the way it did yesterday? Your bra was two sizes too small. Your shirts were skin tight. Your face clear of blemishes…the kind that come from being a teenager. Would you chalk it up to a dream and try to wake up? Would you go with the flow and say that it was your diet? What about your hormones finally getting the hint to start moving things around? Never in a thousand years would you believe it to be because of supernatural causes right? Cypress has some of the classic lore intertwined with some original scenes in the mix, making the first installment in this series one that will be hard for readers to put down.
Morgan is your average high school geek. At least, that is how she sees herself—not worthy of a boyfriend for prom if it can’t be with her ex-boyfriend—who coincidentally is with someone else that is absolutely gorgeous. When she is invited over to Lukas’s house, her mother’s new boyfriend, she is forced to play nice with his daughter, Esma. Esma Siban seems like she has the perfect life—money, looks, and brains—why would she ever want to be friends with Morgan? But, after that fateful night, everything changes. The last thing that she remembers seeing is a young boy, apparently a distant relative of the Sibans, who rains in on her personal space when in the bathroom after dinner—and then darkness beckons. Waking up to her own room and hearing that she was in the hospital for a little while due to an illness and a concussion—Morgan must fit the pieces together to regain her memory. Mysteriously, these new changes start to take effect over her body and people at school start to notice her, but is that necessarily a good thing if she attracts the wrong company? The new exchange student, Van Xander, is handsome and way out of her league—yet, she can’t get him out of her head. With Esma’s warnings to stay away from him, that only makes Morgan want to be with him even more. What harm could it do? It’s not like he has a vendetta or a secret motive for wanting to be close to her right?
Cypress has a terrific story-line, filled with creativity, originality and fascinating characters. The pace is very quick, but easy to follow and enjoyable. The story appears to be written fairly well and both narrators, Cendese and Buhr, are able to captivate their audience with their vocal differentiation and tone. This installment does not spare the drama that goes on in a teenager’s life, but it is meant to be satirical and geared toward a young adult audience. With that being mentioned, there are some scenes that appear childish but the intention is that it is from a teenager’s point of view. If you are a reader of young adult and paranormal romance, this may be a good fit. This is the first installment in the Puritan Coven Series; therefore, the reader can dive right in.
An audiobook was purchased by Turning Another Page through iTunes and in no way affects the honesty of this review. We provide a five-star rating to Bite Me by Louise Cypress.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the author in exchange for my honest review.
Bite Me is about a high school senior named Morgan. Her mother is dating a classmate's father and one night while she was at their home for a family dinner together, she was bitten by a young child who was being tended to by a nun. Turns out, this young child was a vampire and passed on vampiritis to Morgan. The classmate, whose name is Esma, and her father, Lucas, are called Puritans, meaning they do not feast on human blood and therefore age like a normal human and do not have the same kind of powers as vampires.
Van Xander is a descendant of Van Helsing. His family works for a council that slays vampires. His family was sent to the community where Morgan lived, but to monitor the local puritan coven when he discovers that Morgan is a vampire and she does not know it. As time goes on, he really begins to care for Morgan.
I really enjoyed listening to this book. I had been eyeballing reading it for a while, but with last year being so hectic for me, I just never picked it up to do so. When the opportunity to listen to it came about, I was very excited and jumped on it very quickly. I listened to this book in one day. That is right. I finished all 8 hours of it. I listened all day in every activity....working on the computer, doing chores around the house, feeding my son...I could not stop. The narrators really brought this story to life. I always feel narrators can make or break a story, and these narrators were fantastic.
I like the interesting twist to vampire lore that is out there. Cypress introduces that vampirism is like an illness and if you get treatment, you can live a normal life. In this case, if the infected person feasted on human blood, the disease took over and the person stopped aging and began having other vampiric superpowers. If a person did not feast on human blood, and stuck to a more paleo diet, then they lived a pretty normal, healthy, and happy life (they are known as Puritans). Having said that, they would still have the urge to feast on human blood. Morgan had a jump start to this though. Her stop mom, who is also one of these Puritan vampires, learned that something may happen to Morgan one day and began putting drops of medicine sort of like methadone, only it tones down the vampiric desires to feast on humans.
Overall, the story line was enjoyable. I am looking forward to the next book and am patiently waiting for its release on Audible. I have high hopes for the continuation of the series. If you want to listen to something with a fresh take on the same old vampire/human love story, this is a good one to go with!
I would like to thank the author for allowing me to review this audiobook for her! It was my pleasure and I greatly enjoyed listening!
This is an interesting rendition of Vampires. The Puritans don't prey on human or drink human blood. Those who go on rampage in their feeding frenzy and the Slayers who are responsible to monitor and slay those who are a danger to humanity.
Morgan lives with her overbearing mother and considers herself to be nerdy. Gwen is her best friend and they tend to keep to themselves.
Van is a descendant of Van Hesling and follows in his mother's footsteps of slaying the dangerous vampires.
When Morgan goes to dinner to her mother's boyfriend's upmarket home, she encounters a bizarre experience which leads to hospital treatment. Upon waking up, she doesn’t recollect anything beyond meeting her mother's boyfriend. Her physical appearance starts to change and suddenly, she is noticed by her peers. She puts it down to her change in diet. Nothing else would make sense.
There has been an outbreak of homeless people being found dead and Van's family is sent to investigate. They focus on the one family and Van enrols in school to be closer to one of the suspects. He is besotted with Morgan until he notices what everyone else believes to be an insect bite. He stays close to her to watch her behaviour and puts her through various tests without her knowledge. She is oblivious to what's happening to her. Esma, her potential stepsister warns her about Van, but she brushes it off after she confronts him. Esma and Van agree to tell her the truth and it all goes downhill. She believes that she is being pranked. Secrets from both sides of the family are unearthed. Van sees the good in Morgan, not just her physical beauty. The question is, will he be able to slay her, should the need arise? They both have feelings for each other!
This is a fun and entertaining read. It's well paced with well developed characters. It's intriguing and easy to read. There are quite a few twists and some bloodbaths. Van and Morgan are loving and lovable protagonists. The turn of events at the end is beguiling. This would appeal to fans of vampire novels. A worthwhile read.
I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.
Another refreshing story! I loved this first book so much I cannot wait to read the next ones in the series. This is something you would not expect. There are twists I did not see coming and there are so many things left to uncover. Suffice to say, I read it in one sitting, as I could not put it down, at all!
Morgan faces all the changes in her body on her own. She deals with her sickness all by herself, being oblivious to the virus spreading inside her body. Her life gets turned around once she gets bitten by a 4 year old. The bite brings changes to her body that are quite obvious for her classmates, still she believes this is all because of her new diet.
Van gets close to her to asses her level of transformation. He has no intention of becoming attached. He knows all vampires are evil and need to be destroyed. However, life has other plans. He meets a family of puritans – vampires who do not feed on human blood and maybe, just maybe his opinion would change by the end of the book.
What I mostly liked about the book is that the plot is not 100% absorbed by the romance. Each character has a path to follow. We have a mix of teenage drama (guys asking girls to prom, looking for the perfect dress) with vampire related issues. This is what keeps this story so entertaining.
There is one thing that made me disappointed. One of them is how a family of puritans was not able to immediately detect that a human has been bitten under their nose.
The narration was almost perfect! I loved the voice acting. It was amazing and entertaining. Alexander Cendese’s parts felt a little shouted somehow. His voice acting was great, but when interpreting Van, he sounded like a news anchor almost. I did not dislike his part, not at all. It just felt off in the beginning, until I got used to it. Reba Buhr – impeccable!
All in all, I cannot wait to see what will happen next! I love a vampire story, spiked with a touch of romance. Let’s see what the series has to offer in the next books J Happy reading! (4 stars for now)
Bite me says it all. That was not what I was expecting but enjoyed it nonetheless. I would describe this read as a young adult and supernatural genre. A girl still in high school and vampires with slayers thrown in. The beginning of a love story on the side too. One night Morgan has dinner at her mom's boyfriend's house when at some point doesn't remember the evening at all just the school day leading to. She becomes ill with strange bite marks are her neck that seems to be the cause of her infection from an insect. Things begin to change for Morgan and she doesn't understand why. Van is a slayer on a mission to find out who's been killing in the name of vampires in Carlsbad. His targets of interests are Lukas and Esma Siban but they are considered Puritan vampires (you know the type that doesn't drink human blood), Van doesn't believe it but keeps an eye on them anyway. He meets Morgan the newborn who is unaware and immediately likes her but he shouldn't because he may have to end her life what there is of it. He puts here through a series off test will she pass or fail? Louise I loved morgan and Van and the story that brings them together. It wasn't what I thought it would be for a vampire story. You did a great job bringing this story to life and it flows from the two main characters with the background characters as well. Once I got started I didn't want to put it down. It was intriguing with some suspense thrown in. A different tale for vampires this one, Puritans who don't drink human blood and the blood addicts that do (the good vs the bad). A great start to this series can't wait for Esma's story that's next. A must read and look forward to the rest of the series! ***Sweet & Spicy Reads review, ARC provided in return for an honest review***
High School senior, Morgan Taylor-Jackson, can't wait to attend UCLA and leave her old life behind. Her parents constantly bicker over their divorce. Morgan is known as the nerdy girl who hasn't been kissed yet. Her life turns upside down when she gets bitten by a small child and she is taken to the hospital. Upon returning home, she realizes that her body is going through a transformation but she isn't sure what to do.
Van Xander is descendant of Van Helsing. He believes all vampires should be destroyed even ones who abstain from human blood, who call themselves, Puritans. When Van is sent to investigate a local coven, Morgan becomes his prime target after a string of murders occur. While Van pretends to be interested in her, he notices that she isn't like the other vampires. Will Morgan become a full-fledged bloodthirsty vampire? Will Van be able to put aside his distaste for vampires and help Morgan?
The novel read like your average teenage vampire romance novel. It was packed with the basic predictable teenage drama along with a few twists. I found the book to be a fun and enjoyable read. Even though, some parts were a bit over the top. For example, the dynamics between Van and his sister, Cassandra didn't feel like "normal" brother and sister interaction, at times. I enjoyed the fact that the author incorporates popular vampire ideas, such as their weakness to silver. I like that she also included aspects, such as Puritans and groups of people who both wanted to kill and "help" the vampire race. I look forward to reading the book in the series.
**Disclosure - I received a free unedited copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion**
This was my first book by Louise Cypress, and it was a great start for me and a great start to this series. It really wasn't what I had envisioned in my mind it would be. I figured it would be a run of the mill YA vampire story with some clumsy kid style romance tossed in. The characters after all are teenagers just trying to get through the last 6 months of High School. Boy was I wrong. The book is very well written and kept my attention. Reba Buhr and Alexander Cendese kept my attention as well with their narration of the book.
The story line starts out with Morgan Taylor-Jackson is your typical upper class teenage girl trying to get to Graduation. Her mother is over bearing and also has a new boyfriend to boot. One night while at dinner with the mothers new boyfriend she is bitten by a vampire and changed.
Van Xander is a member of Helsing Incorporated. His job is to rid the world of Vampires that feed off of other humans, and to check on the Vampires that are called the Puritans. Puritans do not drink human blood.
Van and his family are called La Jolla to check on the local Puritan Coven when he meets Morgan. Instant sparks fly between the 2 and they fall for each other. In the end run it is up to Van to either help Morgan in becoming a Puritan or take her out.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Louise Cypress. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
The Story: I have read my fair share of Vampire stories over the years, and I am always surprised when an author can come up with a new and unique way to write one. Morgan finds herself being bitten by a vampire and going through the transformation on her own though she doesn't realise it. The vampire in question who bit her was a 4 year old boy who is in the care of her mothers boyfriend. They are all Puritian Vampires who shun the drinking of human blood, though Morgan and her mother don't know this, and how they don't know that Morgan is transitioning is beyond me - that is one thing that didn't sit right with me. It was only once Van - who comes from a long line of vampire hunters realised that Esma and her father step in. But it was too late!
This was a good take on vampirism, fuelled with teenage angst and some romance that wasn't the main thread in the story.
The Narration: I really enjoyed the duel narration from Reba Buhr and Alexander Cendese , it really added more depth to the story and they flowed between the characters flawlessly. To start with Van's narration seemed like Alexander was reading a news cast or the like, but once I got into his voice and character it flowed better. Duel narrations can be good or they can be bad but the pairing of this duo worked well. The audio was perfect with no background noise or interference.
I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Louise Cypress. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
First let me say, I have loved reading vampire novels for many, many years. So, it's always a joy to find one that is unique and grabs my attention from the very beginning. And, this book did just that!
Morgan is a nerdy High School senior who has never been kissed. Her domineering Mother is "dating" a handsome man from Bosnia. When Morgan is forced to go to dinner at his home, her life is changed forever.
Van Xander is the handsome new boy in school; little does Morgan know that he is also a direct descendant of the original vampire killer, Van Helsing.
This book offers a unique look at the world of the vampire. Is it possible to be a vampire yet never taste human blood? Is there a cure for Vampirism? This book delves into these possibilities and many more.
I loved the characters, I loved the story and I loved the author's writing style. After so many "Twilight" look-alikes and too many vampire stories based solely on sex, this was a breath of fresh air in the genre. It is written as a YA book, but those of us well beyond YA can also enjoy it! If you think you would enjoy a combination of Twilight and Carrie, then check out this book! Bring on Promaggedon!
I look forward to many more books in this series. Ms. Cypress is a wonderful writer and I commend her for bringing her version of the vampire to life!
I was given a chance to read this book and am so happy that I had the chance to read and review it!
This book drew me in quickly. It has strong relatable characters . The author takes you on a entertaining journey fantasy world of vampires and vampire slayers. This is not your typical vampire tale which I found very refreshing The author introduces you to vampire slayers who are ancestors of Van Helsing. Then throws into the mix two very different Vampire healers. One being the sisters of purity, who help humans that are infected with the vampire virus, called vampiritis. They teach them to eat a paleo type diet, and insure they never drink human blood., allowing the infected to remain human. The sisters also help them to pass a purity test, which if passed, removes them from the Helsing list of vampires to be killed. The author throws another twist into the vampire world. Once a human has been bitten by a vampire, if they drink human blood, they become inhuman and acquire the typical vampire powers, no longer aging. As if this all isn’t intriguing enough or the reader, the author introduces the reader to a second healing group called The Brothers Of temperance,. They have a more modern approach to dealing with Vampiritis infected humans. This sect runs a commune of New Life and reformation where they use science and medication in their attempt to cure infected humans. As well as those who have drank human blood and are full fledged vampires. Kudos to the author for weaving a magical world of evil and good within this very different vampire world, where she mixes it all up with vampire slayers, with the outcome being a fantastic read. It is very well written with likable and believable characters. I highly recommend this, it’s a fun read.
