J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.

After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.

So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.

Okay, so reviewing the final book in a series is always harder. You can’t go into too much since you’ll definitely touch on spoilers for the prior books – and I know a lot will wait for a series to be completed to read – so I’m just going to try and focus on my feels. And hopefully make sense

I went into the series with certain ideas. I have read JA Huss’s books for YEARS. And I think I sort of had this idea in the back of my mind that even with a writing partner, her trademark suspense and twistiness would be the dominant voice. As I read, I felt myself waiting for that a-ha moment and it was completely wrong of me. I had to press pause and shake it off. I pressed played and remembered that this is something new.

Was the writing fantastic? Yes. The characters were complex and had depth. They were easy to like and relate to. And Tyler’s quirks became almost adorable. Maddie’s growth was a pleasure to watch. She tried, failed, tried, and failed a bunch more and yet she still dusted herself off and tried again. They worked for their ending. They fought for it and in the end, they deserved it.

At a particular point in this story, I was torn. I wasn’t feeling it exactly – but what surprised me, was that even though I was having my doubts about it, it hit me emotionally. It was a beautiful moment that hit me right in the feels and caught me completely off-guard. Which I think is a testament to the ability of these two. Impact. It’s all about the impact. They led me there – they got me to a place where their words would be able to affect me. Because they ensured I was invested into the characters and their lives.

I look forward to their next project and I really think that after reading this series that I will be able to go into the next book with more of an open mind. To be able to shake off what turns I expect the story to take, to stop looking for the surprises in the shadows and just enjoy the ride.

This series was a wild ride! In the final book of the series we get a look at Tyler and Maddie recognizing the new turn in their lives. Thinking the danger is now in the past, they both want to do more, to have meaning and do something that will make them both feel like they are doing something worthwhile. It was like they were bringing the first phase of their life to a close and beginning a new journey together. And man what a journey that was!

I loved that this book was devoted to Tyler and Maddie figuring out what to do next. Usually we get a huge bang at the end of a book and a very short HEA scene. I like that these two authors showed what a struggle it is to overcome such huge obstacles and then have to figure out how to be normal again. It really was the perfect way to close out the series. I can't wait to see what they Huss/McClain have in store for us next! ARC provided by authors.

This is a great conclusion to the series. Maddie and Tyler have had a wild ride and now things are settling down. Each of these characters begin to work on themselves and the baggage that they’ve been carrying for years. With the unconditional love for each other they begin to make progress toward a healing that will only deepen their connection in the years to come.

Tyler has quite a moment where things finally click for him and I loved watching this crazy man make sense of his life and the circumstances and decisions that has brought him to this point. He’s always doing things without thought or process and this installment of the book continues to show us this side of his quirky nature.

Maddie also is faced with figuring out what her life should look like or could look like. I loved the growth that both of these characters went through on this long journey to each other. This is a series with layer upon layer of goodness. You can get as much or as little out of it as you choose.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I had no idea what to expect in the final installment of this series, so much happened in book three it had me wondering if this was going to be an extended epilogue. Of course that was not the case because for the most part this has been all about Tyler and Maddie navigating their way through a lot of shit so now they need to figure out how to move forward together. How to be Tyler & Maddie.

Both of them have been drifting with no real purpose so some self reflection happens in this book. Like what they want to do with their lives, how can they make a difference and have a more meaningful impact on others. There are a few things that have been pushed aside for while that each of them need closure on and answers about. They are together but they have very different paths they need to take to be able to begin a life together without all the baggage that wants to come along for the journey.

At the risk of sounding corny, they need to find themselves.

On a side note, the sex scenes in this book were incredibly erotic and so freaking hot, that is no exaggeration - they really do leave no part of each other's bodies untouched.

There is a little more unexpected drama and some hugely emotional moments which all culminate in these two making peace with their pasts and moving forward into a future together.

This was an exciting, fast paced series that I absolutely loved, fantastic collaboration between two talented authors.

“SPOILER FREE Review of Flesh Into Fire & Passion Rising”

‘We are connected by something more powerful than shared sorrow. And every moment we’ve spent apart has been valuable. Necessary. Critical.’

‘Our bodies back together. His arms around me. My back pressed against his chest. Our hearts beating. Keeping time. Becoming what we were always meant to be.’

We decided to read Flesh into Fire and Passion Rising in one hit as we just couldn’t face another cliff-hanger involving our beloved couple, Maddie and Tyler. Now that all four books are out you don’t have to worry about this, so if you’ve not started this series yet, what’re you waiting for? There’s no excuse now because this writing duo nailed it, best we’ve read in a while and our favourite writing duo to date!

‘Thank you, angel. Thank you for everything. I’m sorry it all worked out this way. But it’s OK. I love you. I’ll see you again.’

This is one of those series’ that’ll hit you, grab you and stay with you long after reading. You’ll both laugh and cry, be gripped by the suspense and get very hot under the collar from the passion. You’ll fall in love with Maddie and Tyler who each begin their very own unique personal journey in book one which we felt every bit the part of as they grew tremendously and moved from a dark existence into the light. They both made important self-realisations as we moved through the books that would calm their inner storm, quieten their inner demons and removing the self-imposed pain. Grief and self-blame is a heavy burden to shoulder as both Maggie and Tyler realise when their fractured souls begin a journey of healing through remembrance and shared memories. Whilst each have their own strengths which build through this series, together they are stronger and this unconventional romance will steal your heart for so many reasons.

‘We’ve been through more in the last two months than most people endure in a lifetime and we’re still here and still able to tell the tale. Not that we will.’

Maddie is just becoming stronger and stronger, coming into her own realising that she can change her life. Taking risks by making things right whilst at the same time opening her heart to new opportunities and above all love. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing her grow and realising what a fierce and lovable quirky woman she truly is.

‘I realize that life with Tyler Morgan will never be boring. That much seems incredibly evident. But life is unpredictable no matter what we do to try to put rules in place to keep it from feeling that way. At least with Tyler the unpredictability doesn’t seem scary. With him, as much as is possible, the unpredictability feels safe.’

Tyler has to be one of our favourite heroes. Broken, frivolous with his life, reacting with his heart with no thought of consequence. His inner monologue wins hands down as one of the most entertaining we’ve read. He’s a complex character, quite philosophical and once again his growth through this series was so well written.

‘…for a long time I was in pain, but didn’t show it. What was actually pain got masked by shit that made it look different. On my best days it was just, like, ennui or lethargy or whatever. Just a listless kind of boredom that projected to the world that I didn’t care. Most of the time, it was just me looking like an asshole. But I never let the actual pain show through. Anger’s funny that way. It’s almost never a sincere emotion. It’s usually a secondary emotion. A defence mechanism that kicks in to cover fear, or sorrow, or pain, or anxiety. In my case, all of the above.’

Flesh into Fire was a more introspective instalment in this series despite the adrenaline fuelled moments. We felt it to be a build up to the final crescendo where Maddie and Tyler self-analysed and had to work through not only their own individual issues yet also them as a couple. The beginnings of the end of one era if you will in order to begin anew. There were revelations, drama, passion and conflict as our couple needed to find their place. But first the obstacles needed to be dealt with.

‘Every twenty-four hours there’s a new opportunity for a fresh start.’

Passion Rising was our favourite book in this series for so many reasons. The most important was the intensity of emotion we experienced alongside Maddie and Tyler. They were both tested to the max physically and emotionally as they reached the end of an arduous and violent journey. Like a phoenix rising out of the fire both Maddie and Tyler shed the past in order to live a future on their terms, realising what makes up ‘their happy’, deciding what love truly means.

‘We will hold each other forever and then some. We don’t have to say it. We don’t have to say a word. It simply is. I love her. She loves me. And we will hold each other. Now and always. We will never let go.’

The writing of JA Huss and Johnathan McClain was stellar, it had such depth, was truly flawless and had us laughing, crying and gripping our kindles. It was compelling and thrilling. It was dark yet had such tremendous moments of humour which broke up the dark with rays of lightness. We are exhausted but in that wonderful way when you know you’ve just read a series that will forever be in your heart. We truly hope this author duo will write together again and we’ll be first in line waiting. Do yourselves a favour and pick this series up. You won’t regret it!

“She’s all I need.”

It’s here! It’s finally here! The ending, the epic conclusion we’ve all been jonesing for! PASSION RISING by the amazing writing duo, J.A. Huss and Jonathan McClain, is the final book in their Original Sin series and all I can say is, WHAT A RIDE! Tragic as it uplifting, beautiful as it is emotional, intense as it is insanely sexy, PASSION RISING gives the readers what they want and that, my friends, is one well earned happily ever after that is only fit for Maddie and Tyler. These two have stolen my heart from the very beginning and I’m still not ready to let them go.

This finale was a little more tame than the rest of the books in the series, but it still knocked me on my ass! These two authors have created something truly special with these characters and I can’t wait for EVERYONE to experience their journey. I have a feeling that this is just a single taste of what these two authors can achieve together, so I am so damn excited to see what they bring us next. An epic finale, a beautiful joining of two broken souls, and a love that could wage any war. I absolutely LOVED this book, this series, and these incredible characters, and I just know that you will too!

JA Huss and Johnathan McClain have done themselves proud with this final instalment in the "Original Sin" series. Seriously, part of me is just so happy with how this final book turned out but another part of me is absolutely gutted that it's all over. No more Maddie and Tyler, the barmy couple who weaved their way into our hearts with their crazy ways. There has never been a couple quite like this pair and I doubt there ever will be. They really were as unique as they come and I loved them for that. Who needs a conventional hero and heroine anyway? Right?
.... Life goes on, no matter what. the world never stops turning. The sun keeps rising, the night always comes, and then the light takes its place.

The third book in this series "Flesh into Fire" saw Maddie and Tyler finally close the door on certain aspects of their lives. It was quite the explosive conclusion that had me gripped hook, line and sinker but I knew there was still so much that was left unresolved for this couple. Maddie and Tyler could not move forward until they let go of the past and that involved some serious soul searching. I knew that would come in this final instalment to the series.

"Passion Rising" really did tie everything up beautifully for this couple. It was a more intimate, more heart felt and more emotional book thats for sure but I think that was what was needed to send Maddie and Tyler off into the sunset. But Johnathan and Julie really did catch me off guard with one final twist that was so unexpected I'm not sure I want to kiss them or kick them lol. Well played both of you. Well played.
Maddie and I found each other. And inside of each other, we found the missing parts of ourselves.

The "Original Sin" series really has been one hell of a fabulous roller coaster ride that I have loved being a part of. Although I'm sad that it's the end, I'm hoping these two will make cameo appearances in other books Jonathan and Julie write.

This final book in the series gets ❤️❤️❤️❤️

"Presumably if you've read all four books, then you've enjoyed it at least a bit. If you haven't enjoyed it, then you should take a look at why you want to punish yourself." -Johnathan McClain from "End of Book Sh**" (EOBS) in Book Four.

Sometimes people just want to finish a story; not everyone DNFs, even if it's bad. Also, maybe we are really, really trying to give the author(s) a chance. The way the series was structured, you HAVE to read all four so this review is more of a review of the series and not just the fourth book (Book Four only: if you got through the first three, whether you liked them or not, the last one is a breeze). The reason I endured is I was moved by Johnathan's EOBS in part one and I really wanted to see the structure as a whole. I'd hoped that as we progress, things would get better. It would have to, right? This whole series is about redemption so...

The biggest critiques goes to the story and Maddie's character. I was wanting to see the intent (quote below) from the get-go as the first story did set this up. I got a bit of it with the full story, I got none of it with Maddie, I definitely got it with Tyler. It's there in the story; unfortunately, it was drawn out too much. A good, tight compression was needed. Also some of the actions taken by both characters were just ridiculous. There's a difference between ridiculous and bad decisions. The one thing I did like was the "heaven" angle. I was so into it that I even teared up a bit at one particular part: .

For Maddie, poor sweet baby angel. Please find a good therapist and go. You are not close to being on the right path yet.

Tyler. Annoying, horny, immature, yet likable Tyler. He met the mark. Work went into the deep character study and it showed in the writing.

Had I been satisfied with either the story or with Maddie, I could officially say I liked this series as a whole. With just Tyler being well thought out and written, it is just an "ok" series, for me.

Sidenote with light spoiler: Not sure if the intent was to show that therapy is a good thing, but

"...multiple part exploration of the nature of Self and love via a deep character study of the evolution of two wounded people, and also offer a commentary on mysticism and the salvation myth inside the framework of an extended allegory about loss and redemption..." -Johnathan McClain

4.5 “she’s all I need” stars

It’s always a bittersweet feeling when a series comes to an end, but for some reason, saying goodbye to Tyler and Maddie is so much more than that. Because these four books? It isn’t just putting it as simple as a series—it’s a full-on mental, emotional and hell, even a physical experience. Especially this last book. I can’t even express the impact Passion Rising has left with me. I can’t say that it wasn’t what or how I expected it to be, but then again, this is Tyler and Maddie we’re talking about here. It was a whole lot of crazy, intense and hilarious, but it also tugged at my heartstrings and had my tear ducts leaking.

”I go where you go.”

J. A. Huss and Johnathan McClain definitely took me on a one of a kind and one hell of a journey. This finale... honestly, it gave me peace—of mind, of heart, of everything that this series has put me through—just like Tyler and Maddie found theirs. It’s a blissful kind of healing—one that mends bridges and kisses wounds better.

Maddie and I found each other. And inside of the other we found the missing parts of ourselves. We were part of each other’s evolution as people from way before now. We are in each other’s DNA.

I loved every single moment of passion, insanity, hilarity and the extraordinary kind of love these two showed and shared with us. I laughed, I cried, I got so choked up multiple times. My lungs seized. My gut clenched. My heart freaking swelled. Passion Rising might’ve not been as action-packed and suspenseful as the previous book, but it was just as wild and brilliant.

The Original Sin series is truly a complete and utter eye-opening experience in and of itself. This is one of those series where you won’t be able to help yourself but scramble to crack open and start reading the next book right after you’ve read the last page of the previous one. It’s just binge-read-worthy. It’s a story that’s certainly full of steam and humor and ridiculousness, but there’s no doubt about the depth and soul Tyler and Maddie’s tale has. It’ll just strike you smack dab in the chest and have you remembering everything for days on end.

Passion Rising ends the Original Sin series with a bang! And I felt like I got to know the main characters so much better here.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews
Story:
For a while in the beginning of Passion Rising, things were going slow - the aftermath of Flesh Into Fire could still be felt. However, Maddie and Tyler finally had room and time to breathe. To slow down. To get to know each other better. They were also able to heal - both physically and emotionally - which is something they both needed.

Seeing Maddie and Tyler doing more 'normal' stuff made me love them more. And it also helped me get to know them much better. Passion Rising had a lot of passion, but their hot scenes moved the plot forward and showed how much love they had for each other.

Of course, Passion Rising wasn't all fun and games. There was still both suspense and some mystery. However, in my opinion, the overall theme in this story was redemption and forgiveness. Not only did both Maddie and Tyler have other people they needed to forgive - to move forward themselves. They truly had to forgive themselves most of all. And there were several beautiful conversations on this topic. I feel like I have highlighted half the book. And those highlights are filled with beautiful, heartfelt, loving quotes.

Huss and McClain managed to completely woo me with Passion Rising, which was truly a feat, as I had not been so hot for the two middle installments in the series. Between the great writing, the character development, the story and the plot, I was on the edge of my seat for most of the time. The rest of the time, my toes curled with pent-up frustration ;) plus, I had some great laugh-out-loud moments thanks to Tyler.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Each snip of the scissors cutting off strands of my hair is like letting go of something I've been holding onto too tightly. Not memories. Those will, I imagine, stay with me forever. Or at least until I get old and senile.

Then what? That's like the happily ever after, right? Achieving your goals isn't the end, it's supposed to be a beginning. Isn't it? So back to the start, I guess. "Book two. Page one."

What I want now is just to be near her. To help her when she wants, to let her be when that's what she needs, and to lear to be just a little less stupid. (But only a little, because my idiocy is part of my charm. Not everybody says so, but I believe it's true.)

It's the end we've been waiting for. It's the beginning we didn't realize we wanted.

Maddie and Tyler have been through so much in their short time together. They've struggled internally, externally, and everywhere else you can struggle.

And just when you think you're getting comfortable, because Huss and McClain lull you into a false sense of security for a good portion of this book, the shit hits the fan.

I was nervous. I wasn't sure what was going on. I messaged my friends who had already finished and asked them when the other shoe would drop. Because let's face it, it wasn't just Maddie and Tyler who felt that something bad was coming. Anyone who reads JA Huss is always waiting for that kick in the ass, that one thing that throws you for a loop.

But really, just when I thought I might come out the other side completely unscathed, they go and kick me in the ass.

And the result? Growth. Growth as a reader, growth as a devourer of the written word, growth as a whole.

The book is about many things. I've read reviews from people who didn't enjoy certain aspects of the book (Tyler's inner-monologues being a biggie for some), but those were the things I liked. Those were the parts that made the characters stand out and those were the little things that had me saying 'stick with it, I think there's a purpose.' And you know what? There was a purpose. There was a bigger, underlying cause. There was more than just some guy rambling in his own head. There was more than a girl pushing away the one person she always wanted.

There was more.
There was growth.

Growth as individuals, growth as a couple.

Maddie and Tyler at the end of Passion Rising are not the same Maddie and Tyler from the beginning of Sin With Me. They're more. They're wiser. They're together, in more ways than the obvious.

And that's what I took from this series. Growth. Not staying in one spot. Being more. Doing more. Finding purpose. Finding that one person who makes you a better version of yourself. The person who fills in all the broken bits and makes you whole. The person who loves you when you are at your literal worst. The person--or persons, because friendship goes a long, long way in this story--to build and share and grow with.

So, thank you, Julie and Johnathan for giving me more than I bargained for with Maddie and Tyler's journey. Thank you for making it deeper and more meaningful than just some hot sex and fucked up scenarios. Thank you for making me cry.

And Johnathan, if you ever read this, the love you have for your wife brought tears to my eyes. I almost came out of this book without tears--almost--but your EOBS left me sobbing. Happy tears. Tears of beauty because there is something beautiful and powerful about the love you have with your wife. For your wife. And the words you used to share that with us, your readers, left me smiling and crying.

We now have the conclusion for the Original Sin series in Passion Rising by J.A. Huss and Johnathan McClain and what an ending it was! Maggie and Tyler are soulmates. This we have always known, but each of them have their own demons to conquer. However, we do finally see them grow and connect in new ways that help and heal them.

Maddie and Tyler have been through so much together, can they finally get their happily ever after? This was such an emotional journey for both our beloved characters and the readers. We finally get to see Maddie and Tyler with no barriers between them. But in true Huss/McClain fashion, nothing is ever easy, and we are taken on quite the journey.

In the Original Sin series, we have been taken on a crazy and wild ride and in Passion Rising we see it all come to a head for this couple. There is nothing more to hide behind off. I am looking forward to seeing more of what J.A. Huss and Jonathan McClain must give us in future projects! They definitely make a great team!

Well, we’ve made it to the end of the Original Sin series, and I’m a pretty sad panda now. Leading up to this last book, I was super stoked to see what was going to happen with Maddie and Tyler now. By the end of Flesh Into Fire, they had pretty much been to hell and back. The threats they had been facing through the first three books have been eradicated, so what could possibly be next for Maddie and Tyler? Were they finally going to be able to just “be” and get down to becoming acquainted with each other, in more than just the biblical sense?

This last book was quite an emotional journey for this couple. I don’t mean they were on an emotional rollercoaster, I’m talking about them finally delving deep inside themselves, and figuring out what the emotions are that they’ve been feeling. For a long time now, Maddie has been of this mindset that she’s a magnet for bad luck, or that nothing good seems to happen to her, or that she’s been endlessly climbing a mountain that just keeps shoving her back down. And Tyler has just shut emotion out of the equation altogether and avoided anything and anyone that would make him interact and relate to another person on an intimate or deep level. But now that these two are together, they’re beginning to realize that they’ve been going at this life thing all wrong.

The depths that Julie and Johnathan take our beloved couple in the emotional development category is pretty deep. I’ve read plenty of Julie’s books in which a character has some pretty intense, a-ha moments, where things click into place for them. And many a time those scenes punched me right in the gut and left me breathless and teary eyed. Well, that same thing happened in this book, only that emotional punch came from Johnathan and a specific scene that our loveable Tyler experienced. I haven’t decided if I want to find him and smack him for making me bawl, or if I want to give him a hug and thank him for the beauty that scene provided. In its imagery and the feelings I experienced while reading it.

The journey that Maddie and Tyler took us on in this series was a whirlwind to be sure. I laughed, a lot and I teared up, (okay, cried) a lot, and I have gained a newfound respect for authors who take on the complex challenge of co-writing stories. I’ve been reading Julie’s books for a lot of years now, so I already knew that she was capable of producing amazing stories. And now reading this series and seeing the depth of talent, emotions and creativity that Johnathan contributed to this collaboration, I can only say how excited I am to see what they bring us next!

The last book in this series. The first chapter was a lot of fun to read, all about Maddie and Tyler connecting, bonding and pretty much fucking from one page to another. As this is the last book I needed to know 'is there going to be anything else happening besides these two banging'. A bit drama happens towards the end and that's pretty much the whole story. I was happy to see Maddie and Tyler relationship progress but I needed more. This series probably could have been a trilogy instead of four books in my opinion.

I struggled getting thru this book.

It honestly felt like one long epilogue. I liked how they showed us how they continue to grow as people but thru the whole thing I felt like something was going to happen and nothing ever did. There was no Big Bang no nothing. Don’t get me wrong I like knowing what happens after the fact but this just felt monotonous. The inner dialogue was all over the place.

The spice was still good but honestly that’s what saved this book a little for me.

My least favourite of the series. In fact most of this book could have been condensed into an epilogue in the previous book.

Lots and lots of musing that I ended up skipping.

One piece of action that was over quickly and felt almost like an afterthought.

So basically a good series that should have ended at book three.

Huss/McClain’s Original Sin series ends with Passion Rising and what an ending it is!
The event of this book begins immediately after Flesh Into Fire. Maddie and Tyler are recovering from their close call with death and working on their relationship--loudly. They can’t get enough of each other. Tyler being Tyler attempts to hide the pain from his injuries but Maddie being Maddie sees through him. I love the relationship between these two characters. It is well done from beginning to end.

What I love about Passion Rising, and the series, in general, is how small crumbs are dropped to take the reader down a path of anticipation. Will this relationship work? Are the outside forces of family and friends going to make them fall apart or hold them together? Are the family or friends really who they say they are? Through most of the book, I expect someone to betray the couple and tragically end everything. While the authors didn’t take me down a path I expected, they did take me through a traumatic experience.

Maddie is a wonderful heroine. My favorite type of female. She is damaged by past pain and suffers over decisions she made along the way. Her brother’s death cut her deeply. She misses him daily and worries that she doesn’t measure up for her parents. However, she is so much more. Maddie is feisty, tenacious and often strikes out without fear. She has a soft and tender side that shows itself with Tyler for sure. It shows in her kindness when she sees a need and offers helps.

Tyler! I don’t even know where to start with him. He has a sexy, dirty mouth that I love. He has a huge heart that matches Maddie. His need to protect is ever present even when he needs protection. His pain and survivor’s guilt is tangible for the reader. I love him to death. I love how he fights through his pain to be whatever Maddie needs.

My heart hurt through this book and the series for both characters. It is brilliant the way this book starts, it feels like everything is falling into place for Tyler and Maddie then one by one the happen across friends and foes who test their relationship. At various times, their pain is so real it became my pain. At one part in this book, a person from Tyler’s past slaps him down again. It broke my heart. Maddie and Tyler dealing with Scotty’s death chocked me up. There is a scene near the end that pulled many different emotions from me. I screamed at my Kindle and Johnathan and Julie— “Don’t do this to me.” Then screamed, “This can’t happen.” I’m not an ugly crier when I read, but this story had me very close to an ugly cry.

The writing is excellent. I love the growth of this couple from book one through Passion Rising. The entire journey is realistic and captivating. I couldn’t put the book down. The complex characters and their development are the solid foundation of this fantastic story. Trust me…You MUST read this series from beginning to end. You won’t be disappointed.

It is funny how I wanted this book so badly. I could hardly stand the wait. Now I find myself waiting again. I’m looking forward to Tad Branson bringing it all to life in audio as only he can. I’m also excited to see what this writing duo has in store for us in the future. Well Done Julie and Johnathan!

"Because the fight never ends-it just gets easier with someone at your side."

This quote is so fitting for Maddie and Tyler. Passion Rising was the perfect conclusion to this wild series! I have enjoyed every book in this series, and was anxious to read the finale. I must say out of all the many books that I have read, Maddie and Tyler is one of my top favorite couples, ever!

Maddie and Tyler both, have been through some pretty dramatic things in their lives. And like the saying goes, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. They both are trying to settle into a new routine, trying to grasp what their life means now. No longer taking things for granted, Tyler wants to completely change. He is searching for inner peace, hoping to heal old wounds and move forward with his life.

"Don't take this life too much for granted. It can be taken away when you're least expecting it."

Maddie's growth and change through this series was inspiring. She most certainly is a climber and a fighter. When she gets knocked down, she instantly gets back up, swinging. Her character was fierce, loyal, and loving. Tyler is truly her soulmate, they are perfect together. I would actually laugh out loud at some of their conversations together, they are so hilarious, especially Tyler (everyone says so).

This series was so entertaining, but on the serious side, it had a lot of life lessons layered in as well. I loved that Passion Rising concentrated on a more peaceful time for this couple. They certainly deserved it after all they have been put through. It is a new chapter for them, a new day is dawning, and it looks so promising.

"Life goes on no matter what. The world never stops turning. The sun keeps rising, the night always comes, and then the light takes it's place. Every twenty-four hours there's a new opportunity for a fresh start."

Wow. Passion Rising was honestly the perfect ending for this series as well as the perfect way to wrap up Huss & McClain's first foray into being writing partners.

Passion Rising did a one-eighty and went from being more action to more...cerebral. And that wasn't a bad thing. At least not for me. It made me stop and think - really examine the story as a whole. And I appreciated that. Maddie and Tyler have been through so much in their young lives. Things that would have broken lesser individuals. But while they were both damaged, the each continued getting up each day, putting one foot in front of the other because they felt there had to be something more. They've been through quite a lot since they reconnected as well. They were both in very dark places and I don't know why they had to experience even more "bad" together except to say that it couldn't have worked in any other way. They've endured tragedy before but in experiencing it together they realized that together is better...or at least makes handling it easier. And in each other - or maybe simply with each other - they found what they needed to fill in the cracks of their damaged selves and they maybe, just might have found purpose...which is something I think we all long for.

See? Cerebral. But don't worry. It wasn't all contemplating life's purpose, love, etc. There was an injection of suspense as well as plenty of steam. But again, Passion Rising made me take a stap back and look at the entire picture of Maddie and Tyler's story...put all the pieces together...and I was just pleased as punch with how it all came together.

As a sort of an aside, going into this book as a longtime fan of Huss, I think I had certain preconceived notions of what I'd get from this series despite her partnering with McClain. Passion Rising pushed home the point that this series is not a Huss book, it's a Huss-McClain book and therefore I got something a little different. And I must admit to enjoying the experience. I look forward to seeing what these two come up with next.

From all of the books in this series, i have to say that Passion Rising was my favorite. Even with all the shockers, the suspense, the cliffhangers of the previous books just couldn't quite come up with the pull i had with Tyler and Maddie in this book.

They felt so incredibly strong and emotional. As though everything they've been through tested their link to one another and forced them to really weigh in whether or not their relationship was worth fighting for. If it was worth having gone through everything they had to be with one another. They felt believable in a way that i'm not quite sure if i can find the right words to describe them.

There was just something about Passion Rising that had me pay closer attention to how these two characters evolved since the beginning - how Maddie found something in Tyler that helped her focus, and in Tyler, he found Maddie able to calm his erratic thoughts. These two completed one another in a way that i didn't quite notice in the first instalment.

I just hope that through it all, these two author collaborate in more books together - the fact that Johnathan McClain brought to life the male POV in a way that i personally think women might not fully comprehend (because let's face it, we're not men and only men can be men), and J.A. Huss managed to bring to life Maddie in a way that reminded me of myself not too long ago. These two are amazing together and i can only hope that it's not the end of their collaboration novels.

I've followed this series since the very beginning and have enjoyed the total ride.
Maddie and Tyler are very different than your average "romance" characters. They are strong, they are weak, they are crazy, but through it all they were two broken and lost souls just looking to find themselves. They want to find answers to questions they really didn't even know they were searching for. They want to find love. They want to find each other.

Tyler is our crazy guy that has seen it all, but has run away from a lot of things in his life. Now he's back home in Sin City and he's looking to just get by. But his Angel, Maddie showed up in the most odd place and from there, we've had a partner and crazy roller coaster of a story.

"Tyler Morgan is equal parts caring and cold. He is both soft and hard. He can be weak and strong in the same breath depending on circumstances."
This is Tyler to a T. Plus, he's always going on and on with his inner dialogue and you just have to laugh at him. He's badass, but also so damn funny.

Then there's Maddie who just seems like a lost soul. She keeps getting knocked down over and over again. Yet, she picks herself back up and always seems to reinvent herself. She is a kickass sort of character and if you mess with her, you better believe she won't back down. THIS is why I liked watching this story unfold. To see their strengths and weaknesses develop and change. For them to see and interact with their angel and devil.

Book 4 is a continuation of book 3. Book three was full of action and getting down and dirty to take out the bad guys. Now Maddie and Tyler are recuperating in Vegas and looking to spend an uneventful NYE with one another. And, for the most part, we get that. It's a story of strength and love and finding that you can depend on someone. But also finding oneself and what makes you happy. It's the book that ties all the books together and ties our character development together. But, we gotta have a little twist too, right?
I'll leave you with this. Because THIS is what I thought the series was about. Not the crazy, not the cartel, not the past. This...
"You can't know a thing until you know it, and occasionally when you learn it, it's like the lights being turned on in a pitch-black room."
Bravo to the new writing duo. You achieved feelings, laughs and a camaraderie in the writing. I have a feeling this partnership will "go where you go". The EOBS on this one was a special piece and I'm glad I got to be here for the journey you took us on.

Passion Rising punctuated the fact that, as a whole, the Original Sin series is really more of an experience than just a series of books for you to read. These four books are not just a story of a boy getting a second chance with a girl and, after some drama and some bad stuff happening, living happily ever after. It's not nearly as cut-and-dry and "tropey" as all that.

Once again, I have to be cagey AF, because so much of what happens in Passion Rising is a culmination of things that have been happening and building throughout the first three books in this series. I CAN say that this final book is about self-reflection on both Tyler and Maddie's parts. After everything that has happened to them, they are both left saying, "Okay, so now what?" Them being a couple isn't in question - of COURSE they are a couple. But, the health of their coupledom depends largely on how they now see themselves.

If you'll recall, in my review for Sin With Me (Original Sin #1), I said, "Truthfully, these two are some of the saddest and most despondent people I've ever read about." And it was true. The circumstances of Maddie's and Tyler's lives up to this point had lead them to their own versions of hell on earth. They were treading water with no forward movement and no hope.

You would think that with all the crazy stuff that happened to them over the three books prior to Passion Rising, that we would now see a woman and a man broken beyond repair. But, instead, we see the opposite. The events leading up to book 4 forced them to work together, to wade through their past hurts, to face their current fears and to lean on each other.

I love the way these two love each other. They would give their lives for each other and are looking forward to what comes next in their lives. Their banter is adorable, their sex is hot and their love is lasting. It's everything you could want in a romance book. Plus, you get angels, devils (figurative, not literal), action, closure and a really good death scene.

I'm already looking ahead to what's next from my new favorite writing duo.

PASSION RISING – the fourth and last book of the first collaboration between JA Huss and Johnathan McClain. Just wow. Tyler and Maddie’s story takes no prisoners. It’s real. Honest. Be it the language – or slanguage – being used – so everyday, how many of us would speak it in real life – or the description of the characters you feel like you know after following their journey throughout the books. Yeah, their lives are complicated, crazy and messed-up, attracting trouble everywhere they go, but we wouldn’t want to have it any other way, if we’re honest. Right??

After all they’ve been through in the first three books, there is still more to come for them, still one or two or three more obstacles and / or surprises being thrown their way – things that needed to happen for them to find closure, to finally overcome all the heartbreak they had to endure and gain some sort of normalcy in their so far more than turbulent relationship. Two tortured, scarred souls helping each other in finding some sort of peace at last. I’m overwhelmed and thankful over how in-depth this final instalment of their journey really was.

And, of course, that fire, that kinky passion between is still blazingly hot, making this another book NSFW. They’re seriously devouring one another. Like, seriously! It’s intense and just deliciously good. Yum.

Oh, and Tyler’s verbal diarrhea – err, inner monologues. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed them – I will even miss them now that there will be no more – as they are still as laugh-out-loud funny as ever. Sigh.

This entire series is something wonderful, something not to be missed. Crisp and refreshing writing. Twists thrown at you at every turn. As much gritty and suspenseful moments as there were tender and heartbreaking ones. Also, a bit insanity, deep-rooted stubbornness and a hint of dark thrown into the mix. But see for yourself. I love it!

Ever wonder what happens after the HEA of a romance novel? Passion Rising sort of answers that question for Tyler and Maddie. This rather existential, final book in the Original Sin Series thoroughly shows the growth in the characters as they evolved from total messes to a united front in honoring their lost loved ones.

Maddie and Tyler face their emotional demons, specifically the specter of Scotty, whose opinion mattered greatly to both of them. His core values are a beacon shining light into both their souls. Scotty’s epitaph of “For those I love, I shall sacrifice” works equally well to describe the passionate devotion that Maddie and Tyler share.

While I loved that readers got some follow up on Maddy and Tyler, I felt the last book meandered a bit (almost like Maddy and Tyler’s prior years wandering through their daily lives). I had hoped for some answers to my questions about Pete and the DEA, but didn’t get them. I did get a funny, heart-warming story about two complex characters, and for that, I am thankful.

Passion rising is the emotional conclusion to Julie A Huss and Johnathan McClain’s humorous, sexy, action-packed series, Original Sin. Where these lovable characters end up is anyone’s guess, but know that where one goes, the other will follow.

My heart is full. Passion Rising marks the end to this intense, laugh out loud funny, sexy as all get out, gut wrenching and heart warming series. This series is the brain child of two incredible creative talents in more ways than one. The entire Original Sin series was a revelation. The evolution of Tyler and Maddie as individuals and as a couple epitomizes"darkness into light".

Maddie and Tyler are breathing a collective sigh of relief. They have faced down evil and pain at every turn. It's time to ring in the New Year and start fresh. However, where Tyler and Maddie are concerned danger isn't far. They must run through the fire in order to prove themselves one more time. Maddie and Tyler together as a united front; running on their scorching lust and soul deep love are forced find a way to survive again.

Tyler's ability to begin to move away from the hurt from the past and go forward to something new, was beautiful to watch. His charm and humor carried him through. He is definitely one of the good guys and his willingness to learn was so damn sexy. Maddie was full of sass and class in her own way. She never stopped climbing that mountain. Maddie makes her peace with her life choices and is ready to take her luck and pay it forward. Together as a couple they burn up the pages and compliment each other in the best ways possible.

Julie Huss and Johnathan McClain blew me away! These are characters that will stay with me forever!

Passion Rising is the 4th and final book in the fantastic Original Sins series. We get to say goodbye to Maddie and Tyler, now that the chaos has ended and they can settle down and start their lives together. But, can they really?
I have to say, I have been a fan of JA Huss since her first book released, and have loved every single book she wrote. I was more than a little interested to see how her books would change with the addition of Johnathan McClain. But I don't really think they changed. It's strange. It's like they have been partners forever. I love this series so much. The writing is seamless. I really don't know who wrote which part or how much of each book was who's idea. But I really don't care.
Back to Tyler and Maddie. They say people never change. I disagree. After all, we are in a constant state of change, at least at the cellular level. Change makes us better, usually. People's pasts are just that. The past. We learn, we grow. We change and adapt. And if two people ever overcame their pasts and changed for the better, it was Maddie and Tyler. Congrats on a wonderful series!!
