I was given this book by a friend and as it was a small book it sat in my car for a while. Then last month my daughter became a bit accident prone and I found myself two Wednesday mornings after her PE lesson sitting in A&E waiting for her to be cleared by doctors having got concussion. I needed something light hearted and this book fitted the bill. It is filled with an interesting collection of antidotes you would tell while sitting at the pub swapping experiences. The first few stories made me laugh and I enjoyed the bit about names... “If the name isn’t in the government’s official book, then it’s my going on the child’s birth certificate, and Jesus didn’t make the cut.” ...it made me laugh, but then I am not sure about the other stories, but they were interesting. I quick short read with an interesting style. Happy reading 😀
I think the intended feeling from this book was moments of discomfort, and certainly points within this I did feel that discomfort. Not all of the stories managed to evoke that feeling, or at least to perhaps the intended level, but some were particularly uncomfortable and therefore, I suppose, successful. Certainly an interesting collection of anecdotes, which felt a little bit like short stories to tell at parties more than anything else.
