LAWMAN’S HEART

Schoolteacher Sarah McKenzie is desperate to help one of her students who walks around with a haunted look in his eyes. With no one else to turn to she reluctantly asks Jesse James Harte, the handsome police chief, for help. Jesse unnerves her in more ways than one, especially when he turns his intense gaze her way.

Jesse grew up as wild and untamed as his Old West namesake, but now he’s the law in this stretch of the Wyoming high country. That means trouble is his business—and if he’s ever seen somebody in trouble, it’s Sarah. Jesse can tell she’s running from something—something that might be catching up with her. Jesse will risk everything, even his heart, to keep Sarah safe.

First published as Taming Jesse James by Silhouette Intimate Moments in 2002.

I'm not one of those people who knew from birth she was destined to become a writer. I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.

Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.

After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.

Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.

I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.

I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.

Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

I love to hear from readers. You can reach me at my email address, raeannethayne@gmail.com

If you have read any of Rae Anne Thayne books, you know she uses real life events for her characters. Some other reviews have talked about the rape and how they didn't want to read about bad things. This whole story is about overcoming the past of both the H and H, and how they deal with both their past. Please don't let this stop you from reading a wonderful story. We all know some very bad things happen to really good people all the time.
Bad boy Jesse Hart is now the police chief, and works hard to live down his past and make up for the faith of the town.
The new school teacher, Sarah McKenzie is a victim of a brutal attack and yes rape, and she is trying to overcome
that and move on. But has to face everything happening again as one of her students is being abused.
This is a very emotional story, with both Jesse's and Sarah growing feeling for each other. While also trying to find out
who is hurting Seth (the student) and stalking her. It is a wonderful love story, with mystery and help from both
Jesses brother Matt and Sister Cassie.. both who have their own stories. I hope you give them all a try as am sure you will love them..
Each book has an Bonus story, this one is by Patricia Davids, Love Thine Enemy.
This is also a great book, about old hurts, and family. This is a inspirational, clean story of faith, hope, lose and the
power of love.

RaeAnne Thayne is one of those consistently good authors, whenever I need an uplifting romance I can always count her to deliver.

This one had a bit of a mystery. Sarah is a schoolteacher living in Wyoming after leaving a much-loved job in Chicago. She's pretty skittish with injuries on the inside and outside. So when she meets bad boy turned sheriff Jesse James she's understandably a little gun shy (couldn't resist, sorry). Enjoyable read.

The second book, Love Thine Enemy is by an author I hadn't read before, Patricia Davids. Also an enjoyable story and I'll definitely look up some of her other work.

I liked the main story. I didn't realise there was another story (by a different author)in the book. I began to read it but found it to be religious and not to my taste. Taming Jesse James (the main reprinted story in the book) was actually quite good. I don't particularly like it when authors (or the book company) reprints the book with a different title making you think the book is a new read. At least with this one there was a blurb on the front telling you it was a reprint. The main story is worth a read on a cold winter's day.

Two great stories in one book. RaeAnne Thayne's Springtime in Salt River is Sarah and Jesse's tale of how they get to their happy ever after and it is not an easy road.

Love Thine Enemy by Patricia Davids is a sweet clean contemporary romance that follows Sam and Cheryl and how when sometimes what you want is not always what you need. I loved both of these stories and was sad when the book ended.

A satisfying romance, a few too many secrets and fragile women....Sarah has moved to town for escape reasons. When her student shows up with bruises she tries to convince the local bad boy cop to arrest the stepdad. Together they try to find the abuser and save the child...

Book 2 is fragile ballerina with too many secrets. Cute twins abandoned by mother... ok

I listened to all of Springtime in Salt River and like it. The book is set in Wyoming. The main character has experienced violence and rape in her past. I mention it so a reader can be prepared for difficult passages where the character is dealing with her past and troubles in her current life.

I just couldn’t get through Love Thine Enemy. It drags on and on.

I read this once under its original title, "Taming Jesse James", and gave it 3 stars.

I read it today while under the weather under its new title, "Springtime in Salt River", and I loved it so today it gets 5 stars.

I believe it jumped two stars because I feel miserable, and it made me feel better.
Books are funny that way, huh?

This book is a reprint. I find that disingenuous. The book isn’t very complex and it was easy to figure out who the bad guy was right away. I used to like to read RaeAnnes books, but quite a few I’ve come across now are either reprints or simple stories, and I feel cheated when I read them.

A steal away for awhile book. Romance novel. Predictable. When you just want to relax and believe all is right with the world in the long run, then this is enjoyable. Published with a 'bonus story' by Patricia Davids that is also a romance novel.
