Why did I have to get the football meathead dumped on me? Heath Davis is the best quarterback our team has seen in a long time. Strong, tall, arm like a cannon. The type of guy to get scouted to go pro.
While he definitely has the body, his brain could use a little help. Otherwise he’ll fail his classes and get kicked out of college. Boohoo?
Problem is, I’m the unlucky girl that’s forced to spend time with the ripped, confident, handsome football star… Stop daydreaming, Leigh!
All because I’m a great student and an even better wingwoman. My best friend has the hots for his best friend and we’re both caught in the middle! How will I survive this?
If there is any funny business — I’m out! How do I get this bad boy to behave himself? More importantly, how do I stop myself from melting around him?
Just Friends is a football romance with a very HEA.
Don’t really like leaving negative reviews but am sat questioning myself why did I continue to read this till the end? It had no story to it both lead characters was nothing much to talk about, it held no story it was just to me a let down.
Ugh...where do I begin? I'm a sucker for the jock that falls in love with the less noticeable, study hard, sassy girl story. Leigh was awesome from the beginning. She didn't take shit from anyone and was fast with her witty responses. Heath...was a jerk from the very beginning. Not cute, not charming and and endearing. I hated him immediately. Once Leigh became his tutor I thought there was going to be some character development that would let me see the goodness in Heath. Nope! He called her sexy twice and she's fucking dropping her panties. Pretty sad for a character who's supposed to be tough and doesn't tolerate bullshit. She describes how well endowed he is and in comparison makes her dildos look like "childsplay". Really? Dildo and childsplay should not be in the same sentence. Gross! Just gross! Also, and this pissed me off so much, the 49rs are SAN FRANCISCO!!! Not Los Angeles!! Was that purposely done? Either way, not cool!
I just couldn’t go in after 25%. It was all so silly.
***** SPOILERS***** . . . . . . . . . . . . Couple was already “together,” but not really, and already had a falling out. But apparently they really have feelings for each other. But I felt nothing for their relationship. It was all just compact, and thrown together super fast at this point.
Budding astronaut Leigh meets football meathead Heath. She works in a bar serving them wings. They are cocky and annoying. Her best friend manages to overlook how annoying they are and starts dating Heaths best friend Clark and suddenly Heath is playing wingman, looking after Leigh.
I felt like this story had great potential but it all went so quickly. Leigh went from hating to dating in the flash of an eye. I felt like i’d missed a few chapters of him becoming nicer and them becoming friends.
I felt like i was missing bits all the way through basically. Sometimes I lost who was speaking or where we were or what was happening. At first I thought it was me but it kept happening.
There was a lot of banter between all the characters but it felt like everyone spoke with the same voice. Heath and his football team were a little too abrasive in their talk about girls. I think it could have bern toned down slightly as it just made me think they were all dicks.
I thought Heath showed promise but I didn’t see as much character growth as I’d wanted. He basically apologises and Leigh forgives him instantly. I don’t like these to drag on but this was so quick that it was a bit anticlimactic.
As other reviewers have mentioned, this story ends rather abruptly on a HFN. Then you have to sign up to a newsletter to get the epilogue. That’s a bit annoying. It feels like it should be in the book as an integral part if the story. It annoyed me that I couldn’t read it instantly because i was on my Paperwhite and the epilogue was emailed to me which is on another device. I know that’s due to my own personal setup but it annoyed me. Sorry!
I do think this was an okish read. I think I will tentatively check out another by this author and see what happens.
Amber Heart has written a really extra special novella here for us as you get not one but TWO HEA's!!! yes, that's right - TWO. The main story is about Leigh and Heath. She is the good young woman with great grades in college and kind person who will help anyone. Heath is the jock who is failing in his academic studies and he needs help FAST. Leigh is asked and she reluctantly agrees to help him. Normally these two would never even be in the same company as they are so different but as we get to know them I loved 'listening' to the witty repartee between the two of them as they slowly become closer and more attracted to one another. The second is of how their best friends, Sealy and Clark, fall in love, Four such loveable and believable characters that are full of charm once they let their persona's lift their guards. Now if you're expecting a long novel then this is not for you. It is, however, full of warmth, passion and love with a few steamy scenes to make you melt but nothing prolific like many books these days. It took a couple of hours to read and it was very enjoyable. I will be looking out for Amber's next story as I like her relaxed, easy, writing style and the way she draws you into her plots and liking the characters. I encourage you to get a copy of this book as it is a memorable read. I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book and leave my honest opinion of it here
Ok. So I have a question. Why is this books name JUST FRIENDS? Because firstly, they were not friends to begin with - they never knew each other. Secondly, they did not become friends when they met either. Their relationship went from "enemies" to tutor/ lovers. Not friends. Never friends. Thirdly, they didn't end their relationship with "let's just be friends." Friendship was never a question or bases of their relationship. Friendship was never even mentioned... EVER. The MMC didn't treat the MFC as a friend or visa versa either. They did not use the term FRIENDS OR JUST FRIENDS to explain away their sudden hanging out. I've read friends to lovers many times, and this was definitely not it. In no shape or form. This was more an enemies to lovers. Or teacher/ student to lovers. This wasn't even a friend's with benefits situation...as they were not friends. So again, why was this book called JUST FRIENDS?
All that being said. It was a good read. This was such a cute (maybe at times a little annoying) and intense romance. You rooted for the MC, and yet you wanted to shake them both. Maybe because it was so short, the story and romance were a bit fast. But I liked it. I would re-read one day again.
I read this book as part of an arc program. This was an enemies to lovers love story about Heath and Leigh. Heath was the quarterback of the college football team and always wanted to play pro. Heath doesn't want to get involved with any woman because he doesn't want to lose anything in the future that he worked hard for. Leigh thinks football is a waste of time and all athletes are jerks. Leigh works as a waitress at a local bar while attending college. When her best friend Sealy wants to date Heath's best friend Clark, Heath and Leigh play wingman for them. When Heath needs help in his math classes, he asks Leigh to tutor him. Since they fight back and forth, it is natural they have an attraction to each other. When they start a friends with benefits arrangement, things get complicated. I liked this story and thought some of the banter between Heath and Leigh was funny and cute. I also enjoyed Sealy and Clark's story too. Good one.
A fantastic story about a jock and a geek. They tried to keep things as "Just Friends", but love gets in the way. Can they both fulfill their respective dreams. I suggest you read the book to find out.
Bonus books : Broken Marine. The coping mechanism of sexual encounters with attached ladies doesn't work to stem the aggressive tendencies of this returned marine. A fateful encounter with a woman, changes his perspective, and their lives. A very good read.
Our Secret: A young woman, first time away from home, living in shared college accommodation makes friends with her roommate and a young man, who at first encounter comes across as a slacker, but there in lies the "secret". I did not find the writer's normal attention to detail in this book, or perhaps it was written more in a "fairy tale " genre, but the backstory was interesting, and it was a bonus read, after all.
Great nice and well written story, with good dialogues, even if it’s simple scenario about a football player (Heath) and a intellectual girl (Leigh). They have prejudices against the other : a football player with his priviledges who doesn’t need to work to pay college and who would be just a jerk, or a science girl working her *ss to pay her college tuition but snobing the ones who use their muscles and their body, instead of their brain. They have a deal by helping each other without feelings involve, but it becomes quickly more complicated. I liked the characters. Each of them is realistic about what happens around them, how to keep their dream even if it excludes loving someone else. They have to find a way to concile their life and their happiness, or, to live without one or the other. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
No true ending, no HEA, have to subscribe to newsletter to get them. Disappointing.
I liked this story ok (would have given it 3 goodreads stars) up until it abruptly ends with no very HEA as described in the book blurb. Instead you get "Loving the story so far? Enjoy a bonus epilogue (FREE HEA - 4K Words!)" So no real ending, which is even acknowledged by the "so far" comment, and to get the end, you have to subscribe to the author's newsletter.
Very disappointing. Rather like a bait and switch. I am thankful I have KU and didn't pay individually for the book. I'm unlikely to read this author's work again.
4 stars I purchased a copy of the steamy novel Just Friends: A Football Romance Story (College Friends Book 4)by Amber Heart and this review was given freely. Returning back to college and a self centered quarterback. Self titled Heath makes an unfavorable impression on Aerospace student and bar waitress Leigh. What follows is a rocky romance with the story stopping abruptly with Lehigh getting her dream job and Heath's future undecided which left the story feeling unfinished. There is a second romance between Heath's teammate and Lehigh's roommate which ends in a cliffhanger/teaser. Also contains the books 4 stars Broken Marines and the 4 star book Our Secret
I Voluntarily Reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book!
This was hard to read at first and I had to start over a few times. Once I got into it after 5 chapters, it was adorable. The fiesty spitfire majoring in aerospace and the jock football player who has his sights set on the NFL. Leigh & Heath were adorable. They both thought they were stronger and were able to fight off any connection they might have. Oh, they were so wrong. Fate has other plans and these two have no decision in the matter.
Man, what a shame. And a sham. But whatever. As I was saying, this book could have been a real treat. Unfortunately, it was anything but. It's like rhubarb pie. At first you think, "Oh look, pie!" but then you find out there's rhubarb in it and you lose faith in humanity. Rhubarb pie is the reason you have trust issues.
So there you have it. This book started out as yummy pie but then was exposed for what it truly is: a vegetable dressed in delicious and golden, flaky crust. Terrible and green and healthy. What a pity it wasn't apple or peach.
What a cute story. Leigh and Heath were thrown toghether because her best friend had the hots for his best friend. He was a football star and a hunk, but a little slow on the academic side. Leigh had all the smarts and was able to help him. A cute romance with lots of drama and a few twists. No spoiler here, but there's an HEA and a whole lotta hugging along the way. When friends become more. I read an early copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
Some drama and a few surprises help create a enjoyable friends to lovers romance. A cute story of two very different people, that are brought together because of their friends relationship. Well written and very entertaining. I'm posting an honest, voluntary review after reading an advance copy of this book.
Just Friends, I was curious about this book and wanted to know what it was about. So I had to get this book and read it gladly. I did though, I am very disappointed that this book was really short. I was like really that's it?
Unfortunately this book fell quite short for me. There seemed to be little character development. Leigh came across as a bit unstable - getting very upset over fairly trivial things and Heath was just a bit of a douche to be quite honest. Thankfully it was quite short or I think I’d have abandoned it
This is a very good friends to lovers romance. The storyline is well-written, sometimes sweet, sometimes steamy journey to a HEA. The characters are defined and complex, have chemistry and are opposites. I liked it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
This is a very good friends to lovers romance. It leaves you with a feel good vibe. I liked the banter between Leigh & Heath. The unconventional way things turned out was just the icing on a well-written story line.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
This story ends right in the middle. There are a number of basic editing errors and several other books attached to this one. The story ends at near 25%. Don’t bother.
Just Friends is the story of Heath and Leigh. Complete opposites of the spectrum in interest and views but fiery and intense in all communication. They’re the perfect match and I found myself cheering for them to have a HEA. I struggled with so many of the secondary characters in the beginning but by the end focused my attention on the mains and their immediate bff’s. A good, quick read. I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review.
Glad there was an alternative ending! It ended and I was like what??? The only thing about the ending is it kinda jumped into things that I wasn't expecting. Still quick read and kept my attention.
The story itself is cute enough but the ending was so abrupt, it left me dissatisfied in the end. Hate to give such a low rating but it really makes me not want to read anymore books by the author.
