Lone Star #3

Lines in the Sand

Rate this book
As America suffered,
Borders were defined and
Lines in the Sand were drawn.
Cross them ... you suffer the consequences.

The critically acclaimed Lone Star Series continues with LINES IN THE SAND. Author Bobby Akart masterfully intertwines historical fact with plausible fiction in this post apocalyptic EMP survival fiction series that continues to follow the saga of the Armstrong family, Texas ranchers who have prepared for the worst, but now must deal with those who have not.

Major and Lucy Armstrong's four children are spread around the globe and are in a race against time to return to Texas before societal collapse takes America to the depths of human depravity. They use their ingenuity, grit, and faith to persevere but find themselves facing a most unexpected enemy.

The Lone Star Series is a thought-provoking, gut-wrenching look into a post apocalyptic country devastated by nuclear destruction.

Would you be willing to cross the lines in the sand to survive?

AUTHOR'S NOTE REGARDING PG-13 RATING

The Lone Star Series does not contain strong language. It is intended to entertain and inform audiences of all ages, including teen and young adults. Although some scenes depict the realistic threat our nation faces from an EMP attack and nuclear destruction, and the societal collapse which will result in the aftermath, it does not contain graphic scenes typical of other books in the post-apocalyptic genre. I believe more of our young people need to lead a preparedness lifestyle. Studies show that our millennials do not have any of the basic survival skills. By writing this series free of vulgarities and gratuitous sexual innuendo, I've intended it to be suitable for everyone. Thanks.

Now I have to wait another month to find out more about the Armstrongs? This is a great story. Well written. Stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this one.

Lots of Action

4.5 out of 5 stars

As with all of Akart’s other books – this one was full of facts about prepping, surviving, and making it out when others will perish. But it’s also full of a well thought out plot where the United States is plunged into a nightmarish situation.

Lines in the Sand continues the journey of the rodeo kids along with Duncan and Sook’s. They are closer to home than ever but will come across numerous issues along the way (and mentioning them would spoil the story!) It also tells of the continued survival of the Armstrong ranch as they figure out how to survive and maybe even thrive in this new world. Set in a world where the lights are out everywhere but in Texas – the new Republic of Texas will have to make hard decisions to continue to be okay.

I realized while trying to write out the description of Lines in the Sand that it was going to be a hard book to review without spoiling some parts of it. I’m going to try my best, but I won’t make any promises. So be warned – there may be spoilers ahead (and there will definitely be spoilers to the first two books).

The EMP has happened – the rodeo kids are not close to home when more bad things happen to them. They have to stay away from major cities to survive – but rely on each other more than they ever thought they had to. Their relationship/friendship really shined in this book. Akart allowed them to take one of the three major story arcs this time and I’m glad he did. Their story was fascinating and the things they ran into and saw on their journey was memorable.

As I predicted at the finale of Beyond Borders – Duncan and Sook’s journey and the relationship seemed to take the main stage in this one as they came to terms with their new world along with their budding relationship. Sook was a welcome female addition to the series – she helps round out the aggressive testosterone in this series and I think that Akart put her here to soften it up a bit.

The Armstrong Ranch is a fascinating place and I’m curious to see how Akart will continue to grow and explain it – it feels like a place that at least one book will take place at. Thankfully – he’s done a good job building it up in the first few books. I can tell something is coming.

Lines in the Sand definitely has the most death and destruction of any of the books in this series and maybe even in all of Akart’s books (definitely the fastest loss of life). But it was believable and totally based in fact. The action started at the beginning and never really let up.

The very end of this book had me in real legitimate happy tears. I was not prepared for the emotion that was brought out of me, but I’m glad it did. I wasn’t sure if I was going to rate this a 4 or a 5 and the last few minutes had me settle right in the middle. Any book that can bring that kind of emotion is pretty great in my book.

Overall, a really enjoyable book (I started it on Tuesday afternoon and finished it Wednesday evening). I couldn’t put it down – I found myself listening pretty much everywhere so that I could get to the end. Akart writes in a way that keeps you coming back for me. He gives you just enough to slightly curb your appetite – while still leaving you begging for more.

As with all of Bobby Akart’s books, I am drawn in to a “this could possibly happen” type story. The Lone Star series is no exception, especially with what is going on in the world today. This journey involves North Korea and them having the power to attack America. In Lines In The Sand, the line had been drawn and it was up to the president to either step back or cross that line to protect the citizens of the United States of America. What happens in this story is totally unbelievable as the greatest country in the world is brought to her knees by the power grids being taken out and then the unthinkable happens to add to the catastrophe. With millions of people without a safe place to stay, without food and trying to survive, they do the only that they can and that is trying to go somewhere that has all those things and take what they need, that place is The Republic of Texas. The problem with that is, they don’t want them! Just because the new country has power does not mean they have everything they need to take care of their own, let alone the thousands that are trying to enter the country. With that said, the people that had prepared for the worst possible scenario, the Armstrong family and many others like them have their own lines in the sand to cross. Protect what is theirs and survive or do the unthinkable, shoot a fellow Texan. This is one of the most edge of your seat stories. With the two countries in turmoil, the Armstrong children scattered all over and thousands of miles from home, backdoor deals being undertaken, dark plots being carried out and not knowing who you can trust, this is definitely a fast-paced story that will have you up and reading late into the night!
Once again Bobby has put his all into his story and has come up with what I feel is his best work so far. I have loved all of his wonderful stories and have also learned quite a bit from them on surviving the different scenarios he has used, but this one has really gone above and beyond. Thank you, Bobby for the hours of wonderful entertainment and for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Just when everyone thought it was over and the North Koreans would stand down, North Korea sent their nuclear armada flying to major U.S. targets. All of their missiles took out their targets, as the U.S. retaliated, making most of North Korea a radioactive wasteland.

The Armstrong family is drawing together in Texas. Duncan and his North Korean partner Sook have managed to make their way to the U.S. and head east to Texas, while the Rodeo Kids, Cooper, Riley and Palmer are returning from Calgary, Canada, after their rodeo ended in darkness. Major and Miss Lucy are preparing for anything on the Armstrong ranch.

Nothing can be seen of troop movements in the destruction of North Korea. No sign of their million man army is found. Little did they know that the army was already infiltrated into America. The action is just beginning and it's not looking good for us. Strong, believable characters and action sequences draw you into this amazing series. If you seek profanity and sex, read elsewhere. This series is appropriate for all members of the family, and some of the best writing I've read in ages. Get it now! Get it read! Get ready for action! Don't know what to do? Read and learn!

Every book in every series I have read by this author got a 5 star review, and deservedly so. This one tops them all!n. This is the 3rd book in the Lone Star series and it would really be a good idea if you have read Axis Of Evil and Beyond Borders first. Each one leads into the next one. The Armstrong ranch is the central rally point in the story. Duncan and Sook grab a military flights to the States, but that was the easy part. Cooper, Riley and Palmer get to start this book in Montana and now they have wheels. There are still plenty of bad guys to get through and some military convoys to save. Now that Texas is its own coutry, will Duncan and the Rodeo Kids make it home for Christmas? Will they even be able to get within the border? Lots of action and a terrific ending!

Best one in the series yet.
Like a flashback to One Second After or Alas Babylon, a full ground-burst nuclear exchange takes place between the DPRK and the US, among other exchanges elsewhere. The rodeo kids' journey back from Canada reaches its final legs as they make their way through the US, headed toward the now sovereign republic of Texas. In an equally, if not more, interesting tale, the family's eldest son works his way back from behind enemy lines in Korea, back to the west coast, and finally, hot on the heels of his own brothers and sister.

This book was surely Bobby Akart at his best, which is saying a good deal. I still repeat that he is one of the few authors I've ever read who consistently gets better with each work.

A BA. SYFY Novel/Nuclear Attack/Retaliation/Montana/North Korea

BA. has. penned the 3rd Novel in the Lone Star Series. North Korea attacks the U$. The U.S. Retaliates. North Korea has Hunter Killer Teams in the US and they are activated. The Korean Army has entered Mexico and intends to attack the US. During these events the Armstrong are trying to return to the home ranch. One from North Korea and three from Canada. This begins the travels of the children of the Armstrong Family. This third novel follows the trials and tribulations of the Armstrong Family, Texas and the USG. The recovery of an EMP attack is compounded by a war time footing. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Another really good book from a gifted wordcrafter.
This is the third installment in the Lone Star series and it is a good one. The characters are strong. The plot unfolds quickly and the action is believable.
One glaring error is that the year is 2022, and college mentioned was having its 200th anniversary. Well, any Texan knows that in 1822, Texas was a state of Mexico and Stephen F. Austin wouldn't bring in his colonists until 2 years later. The author may want to rethink this.
This is a very good series and I highly recommend it as a good read! Every Texas should read this one!

Awesome Third Book in Series!!

After the EMO attack by North Korea leaves all of the U.S. without power except for Texas, they continue the assault with nuclear bombs. The U.S. answers in kind and then some. Meanwhile, the Rodeo Kids, Duncan and Sook are continuing their separate harrowing and danger filled treks to reach home. Bobby Akart continues to write and warn us with his what could be *ripped from the headline* stories. This book is a must read if you enjoy emotionally charged, character driven stories that will have you clutching the book tightly in your hands while sitting on the edge of your seat.

The Armstrong children are far from home

As the U.S. is brutally nuked, the 4 Armstrong siblings are worried about getting home to Texas, and even surviving the trip. The oldest, Duncan, is near death in North Korea. The 3 younger kids are in Canada for a rodeo. Despite many horrific incidents, this book has a somewhat happy ending on Christmas Eve. It's not over, as Texas has seceded from the U.S. Food and water are running out everywhere. There are many, many North Korean operatives in the U.S. and Texas, with the sole purpose of killing all survivors. Hopefully, book 4 will show more hope for our brave survivors.

"Awesome Story To Captivate You"

In this apocalyptic story, the author combines historical fact with fiction. It continues the survival of the Armstrong family of Texas. They have prepared for the worst ... but there are those who didn't plan and want to steal from others who have. Awesome story to make your heart beat faster. Makes one realize we all need to make emergency lists should we need to escape fire, floods, earth quakes, winters, etc. Lots to learn in this thriller. Highly recommend.

This series of books mean a lot to me on so many levels. I was born in East Texas but raised on and off in Central Texas. These books manage to capture the true spirit of Texas, it also helps that it’s a page turner. I can readily recommend this series of books to all readers.

This series of books mean a lot to me on so many levels. As a Texan it reminded me of the spirit and courage the defenders of the Alamo exhibited. It also is a page turner and great read. I highly recommend reading the series.

Very good book 3 in this series. A lot of change occurs here in the world and with the groups trying to survive on the ranch as well as those trying to get home. There are a few errors here and there; using "eradicate" instead of "vaporize or immolate" and at one point President Burnett suddenly becomes President Harman (must have a surprise to them both). I look forward to the next book as this one set up several points of conflict to come.

Thought-Provoking

‘A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” I believe that was the slogan for United Negro College Fund back in the early 1970’s. That’s how I often feel when I see people (especially young people) hurt psychologically to the point that they become twisted, demented, & evil. “Lines in the Sand” shows us several wasted minds.
Another “edge-of-my-seat” book from Bobby Akart!

Bobby did it again

I don't usually write a review, never know what to say. But with any book by Bobby Amart there are not enough words to describe how good the book is, how much I thoroughly enjoy reading his books. This book was no exception. Now I have to wait for the next book.

More Adventures

A good adventure continues in part three. There's no lack of action or variety of situations to fight through. As usual, when the book ended, I wasn't! I'm glad there's a new one on its way.
Of course, I could think of details not covered, but was willing to ignore them and enjoy what was.

Great story

Once again Bobby has created a story of a family I love reading about. The Texas angle is fresh and gives a different flavor to their survival. I'm not sure we could count on any help with the idiot we have in the oval office now. Keep your fingers crossed Korea really wants to negotiate peace and idiot doesn't blow it up.

Assassin hero has killed "Dear Leader's" body double, gets escape help from a local NK family, who just happens to speak good American English, AND practices Christianity? And then hero falls in love with the daughter? Seriously? Wildly unrealistic.
And yet, I can't stop listening to the series (audiobooks from Audible).

This book, part of the Lone Star series can be read alone or with the other 5 books in the series. I recommend starting with book one but you can read this by itself. It is a story of how an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) and how it cripples the US. It is a book that will challenge your thoughts of the politics of the US. It is well worth reading. I highly recommend it.

The Adventure Continues

This installment of the series further strengthens the bonds of what the word “family” should mean to all of us. Good action with palatable dialogue untainted with questionable language proves that an entertaining story can be told without rampant vulgarity. Bravo Zulu, Bobby!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of Mr. Ekarts apocalyptic series’s. My favorites are the Yellowstone and Asteroid series with Pandemic coming in third. If you haven’t read any of his other books yet please do! His characters are memorable, his storylines are intense and I’d recommend them to anyone who enjoys end of times books

Lines in the Sand

I never knew what a line in the sand meant, but it is indeliably etched into my mind, now. This was a well-written, expertly researched, informative story that made me think. I stayed up late to finish it and tensed and cheered the characters onward. Read books 1 and 2 first and you wont be able to put this book 3 down!
