What possible reason could a mother have for withholding her love and affection from her only child? That’s the question that has troubled Jake Danville throughout his life. Once he discovers the answer, it’s almost too horrific to bear.
While going through his mother’s apartment following her death, Jake stumbles upon the secret she had been harboring for thirty years, a secret she never wanted him to know and one she could never move beyond. That new knowledge not only turns his whole world upside down, it literally puts him in the crosshairs of his past in the form of a mobster bent on concluding unfinished business.
I'm originally from Utah, lived in Germany from 1997 through 2013, and now live in Nevada. I've been married for over 40 years and have three grown children and four grandchildren. I've written seven novels, six of which (The Photograph, Staring Down the Devil, The Soul Thief, Collateral Son, An Uncommon Alliance, and The Stowaway) are available as e-books. I love to read, write, crochet, and cross-stitch.
Definitely the most action packed book by Ann Steele. And she's really able to communicate a mother's love (or sometimes lack thereof) onto the page. I'd like to read a spinoff book about the private investigator Ebenezer Smoot, prior to him becoming a private eye.
