Preacher Dead--Wedding Still On, in With This Ring, a Cozy Mystery by Jeanne Glidewell
Lexie Starr, a 50-year-old widowed library assistant, fell in love with Stone Van Patten while helping him run his B&B. Now, ten days before the wedding, all heck breaks loose when the pastor is found murdered. Not wanting to postpone the wedding, or look insensitive, Lexie launches her own investigation, breaks her wrist and gets herself and her best friend in a life-or-death situation or two. But can she solve the case and make it down the aisle to wed the man who stole her heart?
Jeanne Glidewell, a 2006 pancreas and kidney transplant recipient, and her husband, Bob, reside in the quaint little coastal town of Rockport, Texas. They previously owned a large RV Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming for 12 years, which gave Jeanne the idea for the Ripple Effect series. Her main characters, Rip and Rapella Ripple, are full-time RVers, with Rapella solving murder mysteries along the way in their travels. Her other (and first) cozy mystery series, the Lexie Starr mysteries, involves a 50-year old library assistant who meets and marries an east coast jeweler named Stone Van Patten. Together they renovate a historic Victorian mansion and turn it into the Alexandria Inn in the fictional town of Rockdale, Missouri. Lexie can’t help getting involved in murder cases taking place in and around the B&B.
All of Jeanne's novels - a romance suspense novel titled Soul Survivor; 7 books and 1 holiday novella in her Lexie Starr series; and 7 books in her Ripple Effect series - are available at nearly every eRetailer site in both eBook and paperback formats. "The Spirit of the Season" is a holiday novella (short novel) she wrote to benefit her local chapter of the Toys for Tots program, with all her proceeds going to help children in her (Leavenworth) county have a merrier Christmas. Jeanne appreciates your support in this endeavor. Jeanne’s next release, book 8 in the Ripple Effect series, titled The Grim Ripper, is expected to hit bookstores in May 2023.
I am pretty sure this is my last Lexie Starr book. When I read the first book I thought there was great potential in both the characters and the series, however it seems to never quite get past mediocre. Here are my thoughts as to why: firstly the characters. Lexie wants to get involved in investigations and does so but lies to everyone around her. In this story she is justifying her bad behavior before she’s done a thing and frankly it’s a bit annoying. Next there’s Stone this is the man who uprooted his life moving to the Midwest to be with Lexie then proceeds to chastise and lecture her as if she were a child. One minute they are total lovey dovey the next they are arguing about lying. The way Stone talks down to Lexie is very off putting. Wendy who is Lexie’s daughter is in my opinion a very unappealing character. She’s smug and she talks to her mother in a most disrespectful manner. She is another who talks down to Lexie. Secondly we have the actual stories themselves they drag. They are definitely slow burn mysteries but the ending is not really satisfying enough to make you want to slog through 200 pages to get the action in the last 20 or so. I guess it really all boils down to the simple fact of the characters being unlikable. Fantastic characters can carry a mediocre plot but if you can’t relate to the protagonist it’s time to move on to a different series. That’s my view your mileage may vary. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
Lexie is planning her wedding to the love of her life, Stone. Everything is all set when the Pastor scheduled to marry them is murdered. Lexie tries to let the detectives figure out who murdered him, but, as usual her impulsiveness and curiosity get her involved anyway. Meanwhile, what happens to her wedding plans? Another fun and entertaining Lexie Starr Mystery!!
Lexie Starr is at it again, getting involved in another murder. Against Stones nd Whyitts vhemitly telling her to stay out of it. Also Getty every thing ready for their wedding day. OFf course Lexie thinks its all up to her to solve the murder of her Baptist pastor. Another close call action adventure mystery that Lexie gets herself neck high in danger and trouble. Agreat action dective mystery. Debra H.
As preparations for Lexie and Stones wedding are in full swing they are thrown into another mystery when their pastor found dead. Surely with everything else that needs to be done Lexie Can let the police handle this one...you have met her haven't you? With a combination of new and recurring characters this is a great story. Can you work out who the murderer is before Lexie?. I received a free copy of this ebook from ebook discovery. This is my honest, freely given review.
I love the characters in this series. Each book is well written and even though part of a series, can stand alone. I will definitely be reading the other books from this author.
I enjoyed book one and kept on reading the series. Great characters and good plots (I did not figure out who done it in book six). I will miss reading them. Thank you Jeanne for helping me get through the shut down in our country. Nothing like a good book and you gave me six in a row. JRR
Another fun mystery with some romance included by Jeanne Glidewell. I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series. It involves all the mishaps surrounding Lexie and Stone’s wedding.
This was really good. Lexie is kind of like a bull in a china shop sometimes, and it gets her into lots of situation that perhaps she doesn't need to/mean to get into... still, a great read, and a good step in the series.
