Pretty good guide, although I am reading so many of these. I am starting to notice all the books have the same advice. I am leaving to move abroad in t-minus 12 months.. and I am just looking for anything and everything to help me prepare. This is a good guide I will likely skim and read again! Cause planning a move to Asia is scary... but exciting :)

The actual content, was great and insightful especially for someone looking to live a successful expat life. Though, the way it was written is hard to follow and read along to.

As someone who has experienced the challenges of expat life firsthand, I was eager to dive into "Moving Without Shaking" by Yelena Mackay in hopes of gaining some valuable insights and advice. However, my enthusiasm quickly turned to frustration as I struggled to make sense of the jumbled mess that is this book.

First and foremost, let's talk about the writing style. It's disjointed, chaotic, and lacks any semblance of flow. It feels as though the author threw together a collection of random thoughts without bothering to organize them into coherent chapters or sections. Trying to follow the train of thought is like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded - utterly impossible and headache-inducing.

From a literary standpoint, "Moving Without Shaking" is a disaster. Mackay's prose is uninspired, bland, and devoid of any real substance. It's as if she's attempting to channel the dry, bureaucratic language of a government pamphlet rather than engaging readers with compelling storytelling or insightful commentary. I found myself constantly checking my watch, counting down the minutes until I could finally put this snooze-fest of a book down for good.

But perhaps the most egregious sin of "Moving Without Shaking" is its complete lack of useful information. Despite its lofty title, this book offers little more than vague platitudes and superficial observations. There's no practical advice, no actionable tips, nothing of substance to help expats navigate the complexities of life in a new country. It's all fluff and no substance - a waste of both time and money.

In conclusion, "Moving Without Shaking" is a prime example of a book that promises much and delivers nothing. With its haphazard structure, lackluster writing, and dearth of useful information, it's a difficult read that offers little in the way of enlightenment or guidance. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of this literary trainwreck.
