Lies That Bind by Diana Rodriguez Wallach is the second book in the young adult Anastasia Phoenix trilogy. The series is a bit like taking James Bond and turning him into a teenage female who is navigating a world of spies, lies and alibis. The books are best read in order as the story picked up right where it had left off in Proof of Lies.

In the first book we met Anastasia Phoenix who had always felt on the outs wherever she’d been since her scientists parents had moved the family all around the world over the years. When they said there was going to be yet another move Anastasia was of course upset and refused to speak to them as they left on yet another trip but little did she know that would be the last time she would see them when a horrible accident happened.

Time passed with Anastasia living with her older sister, Keira, after their parents accident until one night Keira decided to throw a party. The next morning Anastasia believed Keira had male company so she left only to return to find a bathroom full of blood and her sister missing. Already having lost her parents Anastasia was determined to find her sister when it seemed no one else even believed Keira was even still alive.

Now the story picks up after Anastasia has found Keira with the help of Marcus, a boy that she finds herself falling for. The teens all group together to battle Department D that their parents have been involved with when it becomes clear that the danger is still imminent when someone close to Anastasia is found murdered with a message to her that Department D is still coming.

The series is yet again another action packed adventure as Anastasia and company again find themselves traveling the globe with danger around every corner. This installment however to me felt a bit like the middle book that it is with it touching on the previous story and seemingly filled to set up what will surely be a crazy ending. Still a bit over the top as far as believability with a group of teens battling the undercover group it’s one to just sit back and enjoy as the story unfolds. Even with rating a tad lower at 3.5 stars I’ll still definitely be looking to the next in the adventure to see if the evil Department D is finally stopped.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The 2nd book of Anastasia Phoenix was adventurous, agonizing, subversive, dramatic and once again i love it!!!!
From London to Boston, from Paris to London and from London to Rio De Janeiro Anastasia with her sister and her friends tried to breaking down the organisation that hurts so many lives.

The revelations are shocking and the confidence is doubtful between Anastacia and the people who trust.

I can't wait for the 3rd part of this incredible story...

4 stars....

Anastasia is back. She desperately wants to get out of the "spy business" but THEY JUST WON'T LET HER. With her crew and a couple of additions, we get another action packed, teen spy novel that's highly entertaining.

Look, I'm just a fan of YA and when you add in a spy story, I'm just a happy camper. You don't need to read book one to read this one, but I suggest you do to see how the characters grow (a bit). That being said, this was basically a regurgitation of the first book. And I mean that in both a good and not so good way. The interactions and angsty parts were so similar to the first book that it became a bit cumbersome. Been there. Done that. While the first book delved more on rescuing Anastasia's sister, Keira, this one feeds along the same parallel story line of what Department D is, more conspiracy, more shocking revelations and confirmations of what book one was bringing forth.

What does it for me in this series is the fun action. This book, we get a more international feel as she traverses us through different scenarios in different countries. As a military brat, I understand the moving around all the time, being in different cultures and feeling a kinship with fellow brats. Same with these Dresden kids (as was noted in book one... nice!). I was happy to see more humor in this book as that was something I noted was lacking in book one. The champagne bottle scene! I've seen this actually happen so I found that extremely humorous.

If you like YA action thrillers with a side of spies, hold the onions... then you'll love this series.

Thanks to Entangled Teen for this copy in return for my honest review and having me be a part of the blog tour :).

This is one of my new favorite series, that's for sure! I was totally captivated by the first book with the action, suspence, mystery and the dynamics of the fascinating characters! When reading this story, I felt more of a connection to the characters. Which was amazing that I could become so invested in these awesome characters. I loved the story and was totally engulfed in the story and ready for more! The only concern I had with the story was that it was a little slow in some areas but that's a common problem in sequels. It still was a great read and had me completely captivated. I recommend this novel to anyone who has read the first book of the series to check this one out because you see the characters grow in their own ways and you become more connected with them and the story. Lies that Bind starts right where Proof of Lies left off. It could be read as a standalone because it mentions enough of the first book but I recommend reading the first one first to get the full effecr! With a great storyline, this was a highly enjoyable read and I have the head librarian at my book club checking it out! I can't wait to see what Ms. Wallach comes out with next!!!

Lies that bind is the second book in the Anastasia Phoenix series. It is a continuous story, however, I haven't read the first book and this one made perfect sense. It has catch-up info and the story is easy to follow.

Department D is the enemy. The organisation is the root of all Anastasia's problems. Her love interest Marcus wants her help finding his brother, Antonio. Department D is back in the visual.

Antonio worked for department D but didn't know what was going on. Antonio wants to join Marcus and his friends and leave his past behind.

They can't seem to shake their troubles and it soon catches up with them.

Lies that Bind is described as being like the Bourne Identity meets Italian Job. I agree that this is a good way to describe this book. It's corrupt and you have to be careful who you trust. It's aimed at the young adult audience 16+ (UK). Spy
Kids just a little older.

3.5 stars out of 5. Predictable but an okay read.

I was lucky enough to have a copy of this to read straight after finishing the first book in this enthralling series, ‘Proof of Lies‘ – I’m so glad because I really wanted to know what happened next and I certainly wasn’t disappointed by this sequel! This is definitely a series where I suggest you read the stories in sequence, though the author does a great job of filling in some of the back information to make it easy for new to the series readers to follow what is happening. Anastasia, her sister and the growing group working to bring down Department D are off travelling the world again striving to thwart those determined to stop them.

The characters are well developed, the plot a tangled web of lies and deception that is slowly being rewoven to share the true picture with readers . . . . or is it? Nothing is certain in this superb story. Who are the double dealing enemy working to stop Anastasia and Keira from bringing down Department D? Where are there parents – are they really alive? There are so many questions the sisters and their friends are seeking the answers to! Can they really trust everyone around them? What about Marcus and Antonio – not to mention their parents? Oh boy, does this keep you on the edge of your seat!

This is another action packed adventure, a spy thriller with plenty of drama, even more lies and deadly danger, a real page-turner that I have absolutely no hesitation in highly recommending you get a copy to read!

I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing, LLC and Net Galley for a free copy of this book in trade for an honest review.

This review is also posted in my blog : https://onewordtoomuch.wordpress.com/...

Here we follow again the story of Anastasia, her sister Keira and her group of friends in search of the truth. With 1 member added to the team, Antonio, who is Marcus’ brother and previously work for Department D. In case you haven’t read the review on the 1st book, you could read my review here

From the beginning, this is a really fast pacing, full of anticipation and a bunch of conflicts story. For this 2nd part of the series, there’s not too much action until near the end. In this book, the story is progressing into Anastasia and her team of friends trying to bring down Department D using the other Dresden kids.

This book focused more on the espionage theme, only with teenagers as the main character. It feels like reading something from the Mission Impossible story. A bunch of young adult against big bad guys who’s impossible to beat and has every other way to getting back at them, including murder.

What followed later is that Anastasia and her friends are travel around the world (in style of course) in search for witnesses to bring down Department D. It seems like an impossible idea. How could a group of teenager and young adult bring down an international spy organization? Things looks too smooth at first until one of Anastasia’s friend ended up murdered.

For the characters, Anastasia grows stronger emotionally and seemed more reasonable than the 1st book. At times, she appears strong headed and contradicted her team mates suggestions. However, she made some right decisions and trust her feelings better this time. For Keira, I feel she’s the one who is acting like a teenager. A bit irrational, just want to have a boyfriend and partying (while she can’t do that). This is a bit of a set back while she’s the one who supposed to appear stronger and rational. Marcus on the other hand, is becoming a contradicted character between the 1st and 2nd book. He is back to the teenager’s attitude whilst on the 1st book he acts like an adult. It’s kind of disappointing actually. Luckily he picks up later and back to his old self.

What I like is the relationship between Charlotte and Julian. There seems to be something nice brewing between these 2. Let’s hope some cute thing will come out in the 3rd installment of the book. After all this book needs a good ending after all the incidents that happened.

Recommend for those who like spy story, strong female character, travelling to exotic places and conspiracy theory theme. Although this is a Young Adult genre, but it’s also suitable for adult readers. It's best to read the 1st book before jumping to the 2nd one.

Diana keeps the suspense and action going in Lies That Bind, her second book in the Anastasia Phoenix series. It does help to read the first book to get a better idea of what is going on, but Diana does a nice job of summarizing what everyone has already been through without taking away from the story.

Anastasia is now in London with her friends when they come upon Marcus' brother, Antonio, who they had been searching for. Now that everyone realizes they need to take down Department D, Anastasia is having a very hard time trusting everyone around her. And when a friend winds up dead, Anastasia has no idea which way to turn.

I know I am not revealing much, and I really do not want to. Just like the first book, there is so much that goes on and I can't give you one thing without giving away something important. The world building and the suspense is just as impactful and intriguing as the first book. I love how everything plays out and keeps you glued to the story.

I enjoyed that these characters friendships/relationships build more in this one and become more involved as time goes on. Even though Anastasia has trust issues, things build without confusion, if that makes sense - it builds naturally. I love these characters just as much as I love this story. Diana just a fabulous job of keeping the characters in their role (age, maturity, etc) all the while, keeping the momentum very thrilling.

Overall, this was a great sequel to Proof of Lies and has me anxiously awaiting what happens in the next book!!

There weren’t really any gripes that I had with this book, but there also wasn’t anything that led this book to stand out for me.

This book picks up right from where the first book left off and it follows Anastasia as she is trying to find out where her parents really are which takes her on a romp around the world.

I’m still not the biggest fan of the relationship because it is soooo instalovey and not realistic at all, but it works and I think Anastasia and Marcus worked well together

There were so many cheesy lines throughout this book that it had me cringing at moments, and the book was pretty predictable.

All in all though I wasn’t the biggest fan of the novel it also wasn’t bad and that’s why I chose to give it a 3 star rating.

NOTE: I received an ARC copy of this book from the publisher for an honest review. This in no way influences my opinion.

Lies that Bind is the sequel to Proof of Lies in the Anastasia Phoenix series. I read the first book a while back and really enjoyed it, so I was ecstatic when the publisher reached out and offered to send an ARC of this book ass well. However, for me, this book suffered from second book blues and I ultimately ended up DNFing it.

This book starts off where the previous on leaves off. Not a lot of time has elapsed between the two, so it was easy to keep track of what had happened in between books and where the characters are now. There were also plenty of reminders about what had happened in book one, so I didn't need to struggle to remember what had happened previously, which I found to be a bonus.

However, I didn't connect to this story as I had to the first book. There was no hook that really kept me interested and I often found myself putting the book down and doing something else. It felt extremely repetitive in the way in which the characters were acting and what they were saying and it really put me off wanting to read it because it felt like points kept being rehashed where they didn't need to be.

Another issue I had with this book was that the plot was slow. I got up to about 25% of the way though and nothing had really happened. The plot itself was slow and it just appeared to be a lot of back and fourth arguments about what they were going to do next. It didn't seem to be going anywhere and it failed to keep me only toes in the way in which book one did.

I also didn't connect with Anastasia like I did in book 1. She came across as relatively whiny and it really felt like she had taken a step backward in the character development department. I struggled to care about what was going to happen to her in the long run, which impacted how I connected to the story as a whole. The way in which she started to call all the decisions and didn't even stop to consider what anyone else had to say irritated me.

Anthony was also a dislikable character to me. His whole personality grated only nerves and I really just wanted to punch him every time he spoke. I struggled to even trust him and I didn't really care about seeing things from his perspective because of the way in which he treated other characters.

All in all, I was disappointed with this book. It didn't hold the same spark that hame hooked in book one and the plot and character development was sorely lacking. I gave this book 1/5 stars.

"You do stupid things for family, like chase after assassins."

Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Two years ago I read PROOF OF LIES and absolutely loved it, it is one of my favorite undercover mystery adventure type books I've read.

Lies That Binds starts pretty soon after Proof of Lies ended. Anastasia and the group have been in several different European cities since we last saw them, and now they are in England looking for Marcus brother who is missing now as well. After that happens we get to see Charlotte, Julian, and Keira and how the group has changed slightly since we last saw them and has continued working on taking down the organization that had ruined all of their lives in some way. The dynamic in this book is a little different because Anastasia isn't having to search for Keira and is able to instead focus on the bigger picture along with everyone else working on the same thing. There were also some reality checks that didn't happen in the first one and were now having to be addressed before they created a rift in the group.

"At the end of the day, Keira was right - none of us were spies equipped to deal with this."

Overall I really loved this story even more than the first one. We get to know the characters so much more and we get to see their motives for why they are trying to take down the organization. This one had so many twists and turns that I was not expecting, and surprised me so many times. A few new characters were added in as well which was nice to see, and I liked learning there stories as well.

"These are spies, Anastasia, assassins. They're playing us. Playing you."

The heartbreaks, the betrayal, and the surprises that happened throughout this whole book were amazing and had me constantly needing to find more time to read it. I felt a lot of the same feelings that Anastasia did as well when it came to certain people and trusting them. I'm also so proud of her for not letting people change her view on things and stuck to her gut just like she did in the first book.

"Bad things happen, and they're not your fault. You can't control everyone."

This book didn't have middle book syndrome and held its own and I actually liked it a little more than the first one. I cannot wait for the final in this book and I am so sad we have to wait a full year for it.

"None of this is about you, Anastasia. You or Kiera. They get that. And we will bring them down."

**Keep in mind this is book 2 in a continuous series that can't be read alone- make sure to pick up book 1 Proof of Lies first!**

"Usually, when a girl met the parents of a boy she liked, she worried about making a good impression—wearing the right dress or trying to look intelligent and well mannered. I, however, threatened the Reys and accused them of murder while trying not to be kidnapped."

..."How was I going to tell him that? OMG, your parents are so adorable! And they kill people! We had such a great time!"

In the midst of such serious subject matter this random gem of side commentary really spoke to me. It was ridiculous and humorous, but yet at the same time still scary and too intense for a teenager to have to deal with- which basically sums up everything thrown at Anastasia this entire series.

This installment should have been a happier story than the first one since reasons, but instead, I felt on edge the entire book, not able to trust anyone. I had a huge dosing of paranoia from Anastasia, her emotions bled through the pages at me and I could not help but feel her desperation, sorrow and stress. Diana crafted such a believable scenario and characters that everything felt real, like this was truly happening and I was sucked in.

The one negative thing about this book was Markus. I loved him so much in the first book but overall I felt like he was kind of a swarmy jerk in this leg of the adventure. Gone was the debonair boy who would run into any scenario for Anastasia and in his place was a playboy jokester who wanted an easy conquest. I am not sure what happened to his personality but I didn't like who he became. Side note, Charlotte will always be my number one character (besides Anastasia) and she is the soul sister to Anastasia's heart.

I read this book in a day because I could not put it down, so happy that the next book is out and I can jump right in. This is the perfect series for anyone looking for action, adventure; showing the dark world of spies, corruption and lies.

Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Contains possible spoilers from the first book

Lies that Bind is the second book in the Anastasia Phoenix series, I thoroughly enjoyed the excitement of the first book Proof of Lies so I was most eager to start on this.

This is a series that really should be read in order to fully understand the events that have already taken place, enough of a recap is given but it may still be quite confusing.

After trekking all over the place in the first book in search of Anastasia’s sister Keira and having a danger-filled and thrilling adventure; Anastasia is now staying in London with friends when they find out Marcus’s brother Antonio has gone missing. Now determined to take down Department D and locate other Dresden kids, they set out to collect enough evidence to shut them down once and for all.

I was impressed by the world-building and the intense plot is fast paced and full of non-stop action although it did very much mimic the first book; as with Proof of Lies I couldn’t quite guess who could and couldn’t be trusted! It really was a search for the truth throughout the whole book and many secrets were exposed.

Lies that Bind was an exciting sequel! It was mysterious, filled with wonderful characters that progressed throughout the book and the ending that leaves you satisfied but also wanting more. This book seemed to have more angst and drama than the first book which made me quite edgy.

What frustrated me in the first book was the hot and cold relationship between Marcus and Anastasia so I am pleased to see some progression. They worked well together and I thoroughly enjoyed their interactions.

I found Diana Rodriguez Wallach’s writing to be engaging and the storyline was exciting; I am definitely eager to read more books by this author.

"Lies That Bind" is a great sequel in the Anastasia Phoenix series. While the first book had a lot of character building plus a big pace slow-down in the middle, this one has a smooth pace that keeps you easily reading throughout the book. Although the story isn't complete, this sequel didn't feel like an in-between book, but rather, told its own story. Here, Anastasia is staying in London with her crew- including her romantic interest Marcus. Determined to take down Department D, they embark on a journey to find other "Dresden kids"- kids who have been wronged by Department D, with the goal of collecting enough evidence to turn over to the CIA and shut it down for good.

Although it helps to have read the first book to really understand the characters, this book is set up well to be read a while after the first- everything from the first book is recapped well (not in too much detail, but just enough to remind you of what happened in the first). I really appreciated that, as it's not always easy to return to a series after some time. While this one maintains the teen-spy feel, it almost begins to feel more like a police procedural. Nothing comes out that is too surprising, but we follow the clues they gather to the end of the book.

The romance really builds well in this book, and although there is some teenager drama, it seems more natural here. The relationships are well done (not only between romantic interests, but between siblings, children, friends, etc.). The book moves really quickly overall and so it doesn't fixate on most of the side characters (there's one that I think maybe will pop up again in future books), but the plot is really driven forward here. More of the mysteries from the first come to light, and I think it advances the overall story really well. I look forward to seeing what Anastasia will do next!

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Lies That Bind starts off right where book one left off.  Anastasia and her friends are trying to figure out if her parents are alive or not, and also trying to figure out how to stay safe from Department D.

This time, they look for help from other kids from Department D, hoping to find proof that they can use to bring them down.  Everyone is back including Marcus' brother, Antonio, whom Anastasia has trouble trusting.  It gets to the point where she has trouble trusting most of her group.  Especially when another friend is killed.

This book is great for anyone who likes spy/espionage mixed into young adult.  It had a good pacing, but I did find that I liked book one better.  I still enjoyed it and wanted to know what happened.  I'm looking forward to finding out how it all ends in book three.

I gave this one 3  1/2 stars (rounded up to 4 on goodreads).  I received a copy of this book from Entangled Teen for review.

"What would you risk to learn the truth?"― Diana Rodriguez Wallach, Proof of Lies.
LIES THAT BIND dives right back in where we left off at the end of book 1, PROOF OF LIES. Anastasia and crew are in London regrouping and formatting a plan to take down Department D! It seems book one was set in place to lay the groundwork for the globetrotting MC and her cohorts! And even though everything from her past seems to be a lie, Anastasia is holding it together. It's time for payback and the Dresden kids are kicking ass and taking names! That is until Anastasia gets a message that she cannot ignore -the suspicious death of a high school friend. Just when she thought it was safe not to look over her shoulder or around every corner, Department D throws in a little mania to remind her that they are out there and gunning for her as well.
In this book, Anastasia finds herself not trusting anyone or anything. Old habits die hard, Anastasia begins to close the walls around her and shut out everyone and the world just like she did when Keira disappeared. Even though she knows she needs the help of Alex Cross and the rest of her friends to bring down Department D and that the message they sent her was their way of shutting her down. Not to mention her parents could possibly be alive and that her whole entire existence has been a lie.
The Dresden kids are ready to find a chink in the wheel that is the well-oiled machine called the Department D and turn them into the CIA, so they can be shut down permanently. The world is not ready for the wronged kids that have been left orphans that are now rallying together.
I really enjoyed that someone could pick up this book without reading the first one and not be completely lost because almost all the main plot details are revisited at the beginning of the story. Sometimes it’s hard to remember everything that happened in the first installment of a series if it has been a while since you’ve read it, but readers will have no issues diving right back in. Thankfully I had just finished PROOF OF LIES and got to finish them back to back! Although, nothing can be done about the tremendous cliffhanger that LIES THAT BIND left me with! Let’s just hope that Diana continues to be a fantastic author and will hop back in the fires at the same location in book 3 as she did in book 2!
I had mentioned before that I thought the first book, PROOF OF LIES, followed along the lines of one of the Twilight Saga books; however, LIES THAT BIND takes a much darker and sinister tone. Imagine Jason Bourne teaming up with the cast of The Blacklist to go mafia style gangster on the corrupt world!
LIES THAT BIND continuously maintains the spy/mystery feel throughout the storyline, but we don’t get a whole lot of information as to what’s going on; which makes me think this book is just there to set up the finale in book 3. That being said, I did have fun gathering up all the clues with the characters and found myself screaming “NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!” at the end of the last page because I cannot wait to finish this series!
For those that are looking for more of the romance aspect in a book, LIES THAT BIND allows the budding romance between Marcus and Anastasia to build as the book progresses. Keep in mind these are teenagers so there is going to be teenager drama anytime there is a romantic interest. “eyeroll”
The pacing of the book is easy to follow along as well, and the storyline is very plot driven. I found this book much easier to read than the first one and finished it within one day!
LIES THAT BIND is an epic sequel to PROOF OF LIES and I would recommend it to fans of mystery, thrillers, and YA romance drama tropes. The story is also about discovering who you are and not accepting defeat! What are you waiting for go out and buy both of these books right now! You will not be disappointed!!!!

After reading Proof of Lies and enjoying it, I was looking forward to Lies that Bind. Although this one ups the stakes, I didn’t find this one as engaging as the first. I had absolutely loved the dynamics between the characters but they just wasn’t the same in this installment. However, the action was just as entertaining. Plus I enjoyed getting to find out more about Department D and the work it had done.

After the events that transpired in Proof Of Lies, Anastasia Phoenix is more than ready to leave the world of spies behind her. Unfortunately, after her best friend is murdered and his killer leaves a message for her, Anastasia is drawn back into that shadowy world. Unsure of who to trust, Anastasia and her friends being gathering the other Dresden kids in the hopes of accumulating enough evidence to take the organization down once and for all.

If the first book was Anastasia discovering who her family is, this book was about her learning how to trust them. While this one was full of non-stop action, there were occasionally quieter moments where the interpersonal dynamics shone through. However, I felt as if some of the plot points didn’t have enough depth. In particular, I wish that the plan to collect the Dresden kids had been discussed and expanded on. It felt a bit aimless, particularly since none of them ended up playing much of a role in the story. Nevertheless, the plot in general was intriguing enough for me to keep reading.

One of my favorite aspects of the first book was the characters and their relationships. Unfortunately, most of those relationships changed significantly in this book. There was a lot of drama and angst. Additionally, I struggled to understand the motivation of each character. I also didn’t like the romance for most of the book. However, I did appreciate the emotional journey that Anastasia went through in this book though. I loved how Wallach explored the idea of the family you’re born with versus the one you choose for yourself.

Lies That Bind was such a quick, intriguing, light read full of globetrotting action that was a lot darker than Proof of Lies. Plus, I liked how Anastasia grew as a character in this installment. I would recommend this series to fans of YA spy thrillers.

Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled Teen for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.

This is the second book, if you don't want spoilers please stop and read the first book.

Anastasia is back. She is in London with her sister to help Marcus find his brother. Although unlike the search for sister it is easy to find Antonio. Anastasia finds that suspicious and wonders if he is working for Department D.

Meanwhile, the life she left behind rears it's head when she finds out that her best friend Tyson has been murdered in Boston. Anastasia returns to go to his funeral and is shocked and horrified when her other best friend reveals he was murdered because of her. And that if she doesn't turn over her parents they are going to hunt down and kill everyone she cares about.

Allan Cross helps Anastasia come up with a plan and she goes on a mission to find other Dresden kids and give them an opportunity to take down Department D. Will she succeed or will she find that everything is again not as it seems?

Who can she trust?

I was a little worried when I started this I could barely remember the first book, but a couple of chapters in it all came back to me and I was engrossed in this. I still love Anastasia even though she has it rough in this book. She really finds that her circle is even smaller than she realized. Marcus is still loving and I love having the addition of Kiera, Julian and Charlotte. They are great.

I am not sure if this is the last book it didn't quite feel like everything was wrapped up. But as far as I can see it appears that this is it for now. I do hope she writes more I just love the characters.

After saving Keira, Anastasia finds herself unable to sit still. She feels like she's constantly having to keep one eye glancing back over her shoulder and that Department D is out to get her. For that reason, her instinct is to go into hiding, but all of that changes when a message is sent to her via the death of an old high-school friend.

With the help of Allen Cross and her friends, she realizes that Department D needs to come down. The only problem: she doesn't trust anyone. The lines start blurring for Anastasia and she finds her walls closing in as distrust forms for her friends. Anastasia can trust nobody but herself, but that isn't the way to bring down a corrupt place like Department D. Toss in the fact that her parents are most likely alive and Anastasia feels even more wary since her whole life has been a lie.

This was a thrilling sequel to PROOF OF LIES and I drank it up, page by page. I was so happy to have received an ARC since PROOF OF LIES was so good. I loved the mystery and The Godfather-like feel LIES THAT BIND presents and am enthralled by Diana Rodriguez Wallach's riveting writing.

Final Verdict: This was such an epic sequel to PROOF OF LIES and I would recommend it to fans of mystery, thrillers, The Godfather, and romance. This story is also about placing your feet back on the ground even though it feels like it's been ripped out from underneath you.

As long as Department D exists, no one is safe. Anastasia embarks on a dangerous plan to bring down the entire criminal empire. I give this book a rating of 5 stars. It kept me wanting to read right from the beginning. It was a fast paced novel full of adventure and drama. I found the characters were well developed.
I really enjoy Diana’s writing and I definitely am looking to read more of her novels. I did read the first book of the Anastasia Phoenix series, Proof of Lies. I highly recommend this book and series.

“Lies that Bind” picks up where book 1 left off with the Anastasia and the gang all together and ready to uncover the truth behind her parents apparent death and her sister’s kidnapping and once it starts it doesn’t stop leaving us with a cliffhanger for what’s sure to be a great showdown.

This series always reminded me of a sort of “The Blacklist” but for a more younger crowd and while I enjoyed this book on a surface level and in connection to the first, it didn’t have anything to it that made it memorable. A lot of the story was a combination of planning something, having it fail, in group fighting with miscommunication for angst, plot twist and repeat and a lot of them ended up being somewhat predictable which was a bit of a disappointment.

I have to say I always enjoy The Truth sections at the end and how real life events where spliced into these books to create this other layer of intrigue and suggestions of underground workings of a secret government enterprise and LIB continued with that little end of the book treat just as well as the first.

In an Oyster Shell – A riveting addition to the Anastasia Phoenix series. I am looking forward to the next book.

The Pearls – I love this concept of spy kids cleaning up the messes of their corrupt parents. It will pull at your emotions it’s a little sad at times but very interesting. The premise is good and well executed.

The characters practically jump off the pages. There are quite a few characters but you know who is who and it does not get confusing. The author does a fantastic job of making the characters distinctive and interesting enough you find yourself rapidly turning the pages.

The suspense was intense and I really liked it. Usually, this is where I talk about the romance of the book but I feel the suspense was more prominent. There were lots of twists and turns. It was hard to figure out what was going to happen I like being consistently surprised.

Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to read and review Lies That Bind by Diana Rodriguez Wallach. Anastasia is still reeling from the hunt for her sister Keira and the whole orphan and kidnapping ordeals when she jumps right back into the action with her cohorts and a few new helpers. She’s struggling with being unable to truly trust anyone or their opinions or ideas and things within the group become frustrating and tense. The new experiences prove that Anastasia has a right to be untrusting as the intrigue piles up all around her! Twists, turns and shocks keep the story going as relationships are in turmoil and the floor seems to fall out from underneath everyone that’s part of the Dresden rebellion. Mystery turned spy novel turned double agent story rates 5 stars for the pure unpredictability!

Damn this book is awesome. Anastasia doesn't disappoint in this second book. I'm so looking forward to the 3rd and final book. When Anastasia and her little group come together to find the other Dresden kids who have been wronged. Little does she know someone is working against them. Plus when Marcus and her finally finds his brother, things just start getting crazy. Anastasia doesn't trust that Marcus's brother Antonio doesn't know anything nor is done with Department D. Her gut is telling her not to trust him, but then she doesn't trust anyone. Then rumors fly that her parents are alive and behind everything bad... What can she believe? The chase and adventure is on to get evidence that not only prove that department D is still running and won't stop.

Since the time I wanted to read and discover the sequel to "Proof of lies" that's done.

In this second opus Anastasia is still looking for her sister who disappeared in Italy. It is not safe anywhere while Department D still exists. With her friends she will want to bring down this criminal empire that does not let go of her. She's going to fight to save what's left of her family, and the more she knows about this department, the more she thinks about someone who's very close to her and who's connected to all this.

A book read in one go so much I love the author's pen so addictive with a story so moving, captivating and full of suspense and twists and turns. Looking forward to completing this series.

Lies That Bind was the second book in the Anastasia Phoenix trilogy,  and I enjoyed it as much as the first book, Proof of Lies.

Lies That Bind followed Anastasia as she worked towards uncovering the truth about her parents and Department D. It was full of suspense,  suspicion and a tad of romance.

I love the characters, especially Markus and Charlotte, and the storyline was, as always, fast paced and just my type.

All in all, I've been thoroughly swept into Anastasia's world, and I'm eager to read the Book 3, End of Lies!

I must admit that, even if I liked the story, I didn’t love it like I did Proof of Lies. Sure, there is mystery, romance, lies, betrayal and lots of action, but it couldn’t capture me fully. There was nothing wrong with the book, and you should absolutely read it. Maybe my expectation just were too high. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing!

I thought this was solid follow up to book one. I still really liked the wide cast of characters we have met. I would love eventually to get chapters from their point of view. I loved how complex the mystery has became and how the tension in this story has became some intense. I also really loved the various setting we were exposed to and all the various exotic locals we go to. I think the mystery is so well crafted and I will def be checking out the last book in this series!
