There oh so many things that I could say about a B. Love book but I think the most important takeaway from every single book that she pens, is her unwavering ability to impart life lessons and shower us with her views on love. I always know that after reading one of her books I'm going to need a period of recuperation. She effortlessly draws a myriad of emotions from her readers that by the time you get to the last page you are emotionally exhausted from the exhilarating literary ride that she has piloted so perfectly. In this installment, we are introduced to the Humphrey brothers, Haze, Cruz and Quest and the Gaye sisters Ivie, Wren and Maverick. When the story opens we quickly see that the Gaye sister's lives have all but been mapped and planned out for them not by the higher power but by their irrefutable and recalcitrant father. He literally has mapped out what they will be attending school for and what places they will hold in the family once they enter into his illegal operation. Now, this would seem to fall in line with many other urban tales that are out there but with one caveat, Mr. Gaye is not only the most powerful and ruthless, invincible, invisible drug kingpin there is, he is also the GOVERNOR!!! We are able to surmise early on that Ivie being the oldest feels responsible for her younger sisters and although she has towed the line to do everything that her father has requested of her, her main reason for doing so is to protect her sisters from witnessing and experiencing some of the horrors of the seedier side of their father's nefarious empire. Wren is the middle child that hits every cliche' of the middle child syndrome. She has daddy issues, she's reckless, and acts on emotions first without rational thought. With all of that being said she is intensely loyal to her siblings and while Ivie is the one that is following along with her father's plans for her to take over his empire, albeit reluctantly, Wren would gladly step into her sister's shoes and fulfil the wants of her father...if only he would let her. Maverick, the youngest of this clan is sensitive and a creative poet with an artist's temperament. She understands her worth, thanks to her oldest sister, and at the age of 17 she is wiser than many women twice her age. The Humphries come into town and seemingly upend everything these women have all vowed to do when it comes to affairs of the heart. Haze the eldest is a direct compliment to Ivie; while Cruze with his secrets and anguish finds a peace in Wren like no other. Quest and Maverick are embarking on a journey together that leaves the reader craving more from them. This book has twists, turns, excitement, and most of all love, love, and more love. Ms. Love is a contemporary romance writer but she has proven once again that while her heart may bleed for that genre she is more than capable to conquer this one and surpass many of her fellow counterparts. The elegant simplicity of her storytelling engages the reader from the first word in the book to the very last. Ms. Love is like the Picasso of the literary world. She takes her pen and crafts characters and plots so perfectly that one is saddened to leave the peacefulness of her creation. Even when there is angst and turmoil you are still hungering for more. In my mind, these are qualities of a writer that is destined to have her works around long after each of us pass over to our next journey. She isn't your typical writer that pens tales relevant for just today, no, in fact, her creative masterpieces will, in my opinion, be read time and time again by many different generations to come. Thank you for sharing your gift with us Ms. Love we all walk away richer, wiser, and more fulfilled every single time we crack open the piece of perfection that you've gifted us with. GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
