I really enjoyed the Dragon Blood series, but this seemed like a clumsy finale where everything had to be rolled together to get everybody happy!
Here I enoyed the most Bhrava Saruth's and Jaxi's POVs! But I was disappointed with both Ridge and Sardelle - they seemed to have reverted to 18years old!!!

I thought it'd be gimmicky, it was the good kind!
Didn't I'd laugh so hard at a wedding, let alone a fictional one :D The onset of the story was bound to be a little gimmicky since this volume is an afterthought. Turns out it develops nicely and with a lot of quirkiness, just the way we like it :-) there was also a short story at the end with Zirkander and Therrik going at it like good ol' frenemies, that was fun too! Good wrap up for this series!

If there's anything certain about Buroker's writing, it's the fact that once you start you cannot really stop - it's full of fast-paced action and funny dialogue and awesome characters. Oaths is no exception to the rule as it was just that. Fast-paced, funny, and filled to the brim with laugh-out.loud-worthy dialogue. If you're not adoring Bhrava Saruth the way I am, then this book should help you get there as Ridge is helping Bhrava Saruth build his temple and, really, that dragon is the bomb of all characters.
There's plenty of hiccups before Ridge's big day, but luckily these characters are well-handled in solving all of those situations. Also, if you were waiting for Ridge's mother to finally *see* magic, this book is it and oh how much fun it is too!
Also, the extra story in the ending of my kindle edition was a lot of fun as well. How can one not enjoy seeing Therrik and Ridge together?! Well, I certainly can and if such an opportunity should ever rise again, I definitely will again, too. Example:

A wedding, a throne, dragon blood, and gifts
Book 8 in the Dragon Blood series is another great addition to the storyline. These should be read in order to appreciate the background and snarkiness. Lindsay Buroker’s books always entertain with fast paced plots, characters who don’t take themselves too seriously, dragons with inflated egos, and swords who make sarcastic comments to their partners at the most awkward moments.
Book 8 in the Dragon Blood series is another great addition to the storyline. These should be read in order to appreciate the background and snarkiness. Heh. There's never a dull moment for Ridge and his crew. Ridge would probably disagree with that statement seeing as his promotion to general leaves him MUCH less time to get in the air and a day in the air is what constitutes the "never a dull moment" for him. That said, Ridge, Sardelle, and the others are dealing with kidnapping attempts (not against the king, this time), a wedding in the works, Ridge's mother coming to terms with magic being real, and a whole lot of people who are interested in attending the wedding of the season.
So, yeah. I stand by the never a dull moment thing.
On top of all that other stuff, Bhrava Saruth, the most glorious dragon ever, is determined to have a temple built for him. After all, how can a dragon god go about procuring new worshippers without somewhere for them to gather and do all that worshipping? So Ridge is using his charm and quick talking to find land and convince the king to donate it to the cause, plus get a few people to help build said temple.
We get a whole lot of familiar faces, a fair share of dangerous moments, some thrilling aerial acrobatics, and a wedding that is everything you'd expect it to be for Ridge and Sardelle.

By now, what can I say that I haven't said before about Lindsay Buroker's light, slightly-steampunk fantasies? They're fun and likable, with tangled-up action enlivening the plots. This time, it involves getting the always entertaining (and exasperating) Bhrava Saruth's temple built; friends choosing wedding gifts, while Ridge and Sardelle are issuing personal invitations to a surprising assortment of people; convincing Ridge's mother that dragons and magic are real (because when she finally — accidentally — sees what should be proof, she stubbornly thinks they're trying to trick her!); finding out where and how the kidnapped Tolemek has been hidden even from magical senses (and on Tolemek's part, trying to escape), which leads to more action twists I won't spoil; and finally, of course, the wedding!
The main story ends at 89%, followed by the bonus short story "Crazy Canyon", a misadventure starring Ridge and Colonel Therrick, which was and currently still is available to read free online on LB's website. CC is set BEFORE Oaths, BTW, but as of this reading, there's no note to that effect on its first page in the Oaths e-book, and you have to realize as you read.

another great book. I'll be sad to see the last of Ridge and Sardell even if they show up a bit in other books. Fun read, mixture of action, great characters and story. I love the interactions between everyone. Although I prefer more serious books the lighthearted moments in these books do not ruin the story

Disappointed there wasn’t an epic dragon battle, however, things did seem wrapped up nicely. Laughed a couple of times too. Glad I’m done with this series.

Yeah...not really feeling this one. I think perhaps there was one too many books, or not enough ideas. Well, that and yet another round of Cas/Tolemek emoting. Really, I do grasp that the temple needed built, Ridge's mom needed to be told, etc., but... the first part of the book was largely a rescue mission to free what must be the most inept former pirate ever (how did he ever survive as a pirate? Seriously), while his love interest panicked because even though they're living together now, they still can't seem to actually relate to each other and she'd bolted and wasn't there to help. He's finally rescued, though I'd imagine it would only be a few weeks before some other topic came up that caused her to bolt.
In the meantime, Ridge's mom has stumbled across a sleeping dragon, saw a kid levitating rocks, and is convinced Ridge is pulling some sort of elaborate hoax on her. It was almost funny until you realize she actually saw this stuff and still doesn't believe it.
Fortunately the wedding takes place (and half the book) and is actually amusing. So is the short story tacked on to the end.

Marriage. Dragons. And plots of theft. Compared to the rest of the Dragon Blood series, this one is quite a bit tamer, which I really enjoyed. I'm glad they could have a semi-relaxing time after all the chaos of the earlier books. Some of the timeline is surprising to me. I felt like after the 7 books, it had spanned many years, but according to a piece of narrative in here, it'd only been like a year and a half since the first book. I thought that was a whole lot of junk to happen in two years. Anyway, I really enjoyed the book, the dragons, and as always, the brilliant characters that Lindsay Buroker has developed.

So a really good ending for the series, wrapping up some of the unanswered question from the 6th book which was and ending with a few missing answers.

Un - flippin’ - believable! AND a wedding to boot!
So this novel, ostensibly, and let me stress OSTENSIBLY, is about Ridge and Sardelle’s wedding. However, HOWEVER, en route to that wedding, with which the novel concludes, we have several micro-stories each with its own mystery and resolution and not an inconsequential number of battles which our heroes must win before they can reach the wedding. Who would have thought that picking out a wedding dress or asking royalty to stand up for you at your wedding could possibly lead to such drama? Well clearly Buroker could, did and then committed those thoughts to paper.
Let me tell you. It is the perfect uproarious way to celebrate this couples’ nuptials. And, unlike Mary Poppins, who only managed to make it practically so, this story is absolutely perfect in every possible way.
We have secrets and intrigue, sacrifice, kidnappings and rescues, explosions and chases and even still more mischief managed and all without the marauders having a magical map to help them out.
This book sets, yet again, an exceptionally high bar against which others should be measured, and Buroker shines most brightly in a firmament filled with a multitude of other fantasy stars.
If you are as moved by the material you read as much as I, or even to a small degree, I guarantee you will be laughing, crying and cheering at several points as you read this book. And if you have magic, as I do not, beware the man with the glowing sword. He won’t like you.

Wonderfully entertaining
I love the adventures, humor, romance and every magical thing In between. I sure hope to see more added to the series eventually, I always find it sad when a series ends especially when I've enjoyed it as much as I have this one. I think I've noticed a few blossoming romances that could lead into more adventures so I hope I'm right and will see these develop at later dates as well as visiting the original characters since babies don't mean that adventures end there(that's what grandma's an babysitters are for after all lol) I highly recommend this entire series I can't imagine who could be disappointed if they enjoy the genre. As I said I thoroughly enjoyed every book in the series and could only be slightly disappointed if it was decided not to add more books to the series as I'd like to see "pimples" have his chance at love eventually and possibly even "duck". I appreciate you taking the time to share these stories with the world, I found them refreshing and beautifully written. I may be smitten with the characters and my mind wants more of the fantastic adventures. Meanwhile, I'm sure to check out other books written by Lindsay Buroker in hopes they will be every bit as enjoyable.

Oaths is the 8th and final instalment of these books that Lindsay Buroker started many years ago. She is continuing with more novels in this same world that she has built which makes this book much of a tribute to the start of the journey.
I liked this series and this book is a fitting end that the author felt she had to give it. It brings together almost all of the characters, and with all the books and short stories, there are a lot of them - and it introduces some more. Buroker's books tend to focus a little more than others on romance and the Oaths referred to in this book are unsurprisingly the wedding vows of the two primary characters. As a cute aside, the cover art of this book pictures the dragon Bhrava Saruth in his human form.
Most of the action is in the form of the B-story where Tolemek is kidnapped by a powerful shaman and many of the characters efforts to get him back. There are other sub-plots and while it moves along easily enough, I felt that the start of the book was a little slow.
Despite this, it was a good read and I did enjoy it. It is certainly a fitting end to the first series in this world that Buroker has built.

What a fantastic series! This is one I'll have to read again...all the way through. There was a bit of a hitch in The Soulblade that I, like many other fans, wasn't happy with, but overall---this is a can't put down series. The characters, the storylines, the romance, the one-liners, everyone's favorite sentient sword - Jaxi, and favorite dragon - Bravasuruth. Whew---I think I said it all.
But of all the romances weaved through the series - Ridge and Sardelle are the best. Don't get me wrong, I loved the arc for all the romances but Ridge and Sardelle started it all.
Book 8 tied everything together. There was a bit less action and more emphasis on the characters and their relationship to each other, but I feel that makes for a more satisfying ending.

superb series
Lindsay Buroker is one of my favourite writers. She has flair, flavour, fun, fierceness and fabulous plots in her stories.
Her quirky characters are simply sensational and how they all interact brings smiles, encouragement and lots of entertainment.
She tackles the serious subjects of war, abuse, discrimination, personal and work relationships, society structures, pain, loss, loneliness and personal growth within such engaging stories that at times it catches you unawares that she is also making a significant statement.
Thanks for a five star ride with dragons, heroes and every day people.

This was a fun final book. The plot isn't as thick with action, even though there is a plot. The main event is the wedding at the end.
I have to say, I do enjoy this book and this series (though not as much as Buroker's other 😉). I do love Sardelle and Ridge together. Therrik is still gruff (and hilarious to read/watch being gruff). Cas and Tolemek are still working through their relationship (I don't like them as much but I like seeing them work through it together). And the King is still doing well with Kaika (I find it hilarious that he keeps trying to have his castle rebuilt, while Ridge is so likeable that people willingly go help him build the dragon's temple residence so much quicker.)

Kidnapping, Theft and Destruction
Another Get This Book!
She's done it again. If you've been following the series so far, you'll love this one too! There are shamans, familiars, underwater scenes and, of course, fights with bad guys. There's a wedding, healing & Ridge's mom finally finds out about all things magical. There's an avalanche, a festival, a hateful journalist & Bhrava Saruth finally gets his temple built. This book has it all! PLUS it has A BONUS SHORT STORY at the end (which Lindsay's prologue advises to read before starting the book itself and I agree)!! SCORE!

Another bullseye.
Hilariously funny in places, the sarcasm of Jaxi, the dry wit of Weltard combined with the amazing creature that is Bhrava Saruth along with the more reserved Phelisthot brings these otherwise excellent tales to another level. The subtle change in the interaction between Ridge and Therrick is also a great turn and I do find myself more and more intrigued and already have the next chapter of their stories ready.After all there is the bound to be magical baby...The assassin's daughter...The pirate scientist and not to mention the fact that the king is now ....... No spoilers...you will have to go read it yourself

Fabulous conclusion
I've enjoyed following the adventures of Ridge and Sardelle from day one. It's taken awhile to get there, but they finally get to have their happy sort of ending. Of course, it's not really the end because there's a follow up series that includes Ridge and Sardelle as secondary characters. Anyway, This book is well worth the read because not only does it include action, adventure, magic, and dragons, but all of the crew from the series, including Duck, Pimples, Ahn, Tolemek, Kaika, Angulus, and all the rest at their snarky best.

Great continuation of the story
Really happy that Lindsay decided to continue with the Dragon Blood series. When I finished the original books I was left feeling disappointed that it was the end.
But she has carried on with new adventures and excitement throughout the book. The characters she has made us really care about are all back with a few new additions thrown in.
The page of the book is spot on for me, never once did I feel like it was a chore or slow to read.
Highly recommended this book and the entire series to anyone who will listen.

Nooo...Is this truly the end???
I really like everything about this series. This is one of few series that I can devour all without getting tired of it (even the short stories). I love the writing style (which make Lindsay Buroker now officially as one of my favorite author). The story and the humor always keep me engaged. and THE CHARACTERS. I'm already so familiar with all of the characters. I love the bond between them and their banters so much. And to think there will be no more adventures I can follow...*staring blankly at the wall

Sardelle and Zirkander both managed to propose to each other but will the world ever quiet down long enough for them to actually tie the knot? With foreign shamans sneaking around and setting fires to cover their thieving presence, Kaika blowing things up, and Bhrava Saruth insisting that Zirkander build him a temple, will they even survive that long? More fun and games in the Kingdom of Iskandia await!

If you're a big fan of the Dragon Blood series then this book is for you. There are all kinds of little inside jokes that those that have read the book will understand in both the book and the short story included at the end (Therrick's ex-girlfriend anyone?). There are also nods to Lindsay's unique style and for her fans.
I didn't find the book compelling on its own, but I did love the little touches that were added just for the readers that Lindsay included.
I didn't find the book compelling on its own, but I did love the little touches that were added just for the readers that Lindsay included.

What can I say that people haven't already said? I have read all of the books Lindsay Buroker has written and can't wait for the next one. Each of her series has well developed characters that you tend to know on some level. Her proof readers are very diligent and I find no discrepancies in her writing (or she doesn't make grammatical errors). I will continue to enjoy her books for as long as she writes or for as long as I can read (whichever comes first). So glad I found her books. Alexis

This does not do much for the overall plot of the series and the action cycles seem to be more of rushed afterthoughts. I understand wanting to focus on more character development but it doesn't move the plot forward much. Which I guess is my main complaint about the series as a whole. Sure lots of events happen but the overall threats are not really addressed in a satisfying way and some major plot points are just dropped.

Heaving a Really Big Sigh!
I sincerely hated to see this series end. The action, suspense, excitement, continuously occurring throughout all eight books is a difficult habit to break. These books for some reason happened to remind me of the movie " Sky Captain, World of Tomorrow "! Perhaps because of the decade it occurs in and the flying vehicles, plus the saucy and sassy ( Jaxie ) characters depicted in both. For whatever reason, excellent work!

A marvellous enf
For a book that was never planned to be, this book rounds off many of the small questions left at the end of book 7. It also left a few more hinted at but not confirmed.
I am sure Lindsay will be asked time and time again about what comes next in the lives of zirkander, Sardelle, tolemek, cas, and the other characters, and if love to read more about them in the future
