With sparks like these, someone's bound to get burnt...
Mai On is devastated when her landlord sells her building to a property developer and the bakery she’s worked so hard to build is threatened. The last thing she needs is an outsider tearing down everything that matters to her. She’s determined not to be swayed by the sexy, charming developer.
After costing his company millions of dollars, Nicholas Shadbolt is desperate to prove himself. Taking on the re-development of a rundown building is just the stepping stone he needs towards redemption. What he’s not expecting is Mai’s determination to save her livelihood--or the fire she ignites in him.
But attraction isn’t all that's simmering in Blackbridge. Someone is out for blood. And when danger threatens the woman who’s stolen his heart, Nicholas knows he has more at stake than just his reputation.
Claire Boston fell in love with romance and romantic suspense at eleven when she discovered her mother’s stash of Nora Roberts novels. Like Nora, she writes series set around families or groups of friends with a guaranteed happy ending.
She loves travelling and learning about new cultures and interesting vocations which she then weaves into her writing.
When Claire’s not at the computer typing her stories she can be found creating her own handmade journals, swinging on a sidecar, or in the garden attempting to grow something other than weeds.
Claire lives in Western Australia with her husband, who loves even her most annoying quirks and is currently learning how to knit.
Really enjoyed this one, I'm a big fan of Claire Boston's books, and I really enjoy this romantic suspense series. It was a hard one to put down and I liked all the twists and the conflict Nicholas had with what was the right thing to do.
Mai wants to expand her successful bakery, but her landlord breaks his word and sells the building to a developer. Nicholas wants to do the right thing, and tries to help Mai make temporary arrangements, but of course things don’t go smoothly. Part of the “Musketeers” friends series set in Blackbridge (in Australia).
Second book in the series and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you like a gutsy woman whose gumption is bottomless, you’ll like this one. Once again enjoying the Australian bush community setting and the great cast of characters.
This is a second book in a new series by author Claire Boston and focuses on Mai On, a bakery owner, and property developer, Nicholas Stradbolt. Mai's business is booming and she's ready to expand so is devastated when her landlord sell the property out from under her after promising to sell to her. Her first impression of Nicholas isn't great and while she wants nothing to do with him, they keep getting thrust into each other's company. Nicholas is determined to prove himself with this development after having cost the company plenty on his last job. Needless to say, sparks ignite as they interact, but those aren't the only sparks flying. Someone is out to ruin Mai's business and the past is coming back to haunt and even hurt Nicholas and the life he's trying to build in the community he is coming to love. Will fire destroy their lives or bring them together? I highly recommend reading this romantic suspense book. Can't wait for book three!
I received a free copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving a review. What an exciting book. Filled with danger, misfortune, fear, mystery and romance. Mai On had a thriving bakery when the owner of the building sold it out from under her to Nicholas Shadbolt of Shadbolt Property Developers. He wants to tear the building down and build business units. Nic had secrects of his own why he was in Mai's town of Blackbridge. Mai and Nic had an immediate attraction to each other. Little did they know the danger it would cause. Mai was threatened and kept her secrets to herself until someone was murdered. But the bad guys were after her because twice she was a witness to the nefarious dealing of a drug dealer. Wrong place wrong time. An excellent read. It will keep you engaged page after page. I highly recommend this book.
Nothing to Gain written by Claire Boston is an exciting, suspense romance. The main characters, Mai and Nicholas are very captivating and charming although they do have issues. It is an imaginatively, heart thumping, believable story set in the south west of Western Australia. I would highly recommend Nothing to Gain to anyone who enjoys suspense romance. Although this is the second book in the series you do not have to have read the first one to enjoy Nothing to Gain but once you have, you will want to go back and read the first – Nothing to Fear. I am looking forward to the release of the third book Nothing to Hide. Congratulations to Claire Boston for another fabulous book.
Nothing To Gain had my attention from the beginning. As the second book in The Blackbridge Series by Claire Boston, Nothing To Gain provides readers with the story of Mai On, baker and one of the ‘musketeers’. Having read Nothing To Fear prior to reading Nothing To Gain, there were familiar characters and settings, however each book is also a wonderful stand alone story. Claire writes so that readers are captivated (at lest this reader was!) Perhaps it has something to do with the story being set in my home state of Western Australia, and very familiar South West areas.
I knew I was going to like this book right from the beginning. It opens with action so we have a strong sense that there’s something wrong in Mai’s world. And then Nicholas rocks up. Both the hero and heroine were immensely likeable, albeit with imperfections. In fact, that was one of the things I liked about them. The author did a lovely job of blending in the suspense, culminating in a truly exciting ending. Loved it.
Well, I read the first in the series and got sucked in! This one wasn't as good for me as the first - I felt like the character development in book 2 didn't quite live up to book 1. But I still enjoyed the bit of mystery and intrigue and it kept me reading! Now, I guess I'll have to read book 3....
