Although this book containing two novellas is a continuation of the "Awakening Desires" series, and most of the characters made appearances in the previous books, each story can easily be read as a stand-alone.

CARTURING CARLY

Nathan Connors, a sheriff's deputy, and Carly Ames, a diner owner, are getting married after a very brief courtship. Although they've known each other for many years, all it takes is one night of hot passionate sex and they decide to tie the knot. Nathan's a bit of a Dom in the bedroom, which worries Carly at first, but she soon realizes she loves it, and can keep up with Nathan's sexual demands. It's their life out of the bedroom that has Carly worried. She's used to being an independent woman--in control of her life and business. She's worried that Nathan's dominating personality and his need to protect will stifle her independence. She wants to be an equal partner in her marriage. Perhaps things are moving too fast. Will she be able to make Nathan agree to give her some control outside of the bedroom?

I loved this follow-up to "Erin's Fancy", where the characters of Nathan and Carly were first introduced. Both were extremely likable, and I was rooting for them to work things out. Their sex scenes were smokin' hot too! I was happy with the length of the book (182 pages)--things moved along rapidly. There was no lag time with too much sex (which sometimes can get repetitive) or not enough--just right for a scorching hot novella!

CRAVING CANDY

Lucas Squires is a baker, coffee shop owner, new cookbook author, and a gorgeous blonde stud.

Candy Logan, curvaceous and petite, is a publicist, and the woman of Lucas's dreams.

When these two first lay eyes on each other at a party to celebrate the opening of Lucas's new coffee shop, the sexual sparks fly immediately. Things heat up fast, but before the deed is done or names are exchanged, Lucas finds out that Candy is the publicist he's been ducking, and Candy finds out that Lucas is the client who's been avoiding her.

Lucas has written a cookbook in collaboration with his artist friend Katie Benjamin ("Katie's Art of Seduction"). Now his publisher would like him to promote it, and has hired Candy's firm to do the job. Candy's career is on the fast track, but she needs Lucas's cooperation to ensure it. Because of some problems in his past, Lucas would like his private life to remain private, but that may be difficult to avoid if he has to promote his book. But his attraction to Candy is so consuming, he's willing to do almost anything to please her. If it can help her career and he can spend time with her, he's all for it. They have a hot and heavy affair, convincing themselves that's all they want or need. But just when it looks like they may have a future together after all, problems from their pasts threaten their growing relationship.

This was another winner! I loved Lucas! He had a tragic past that nearly ruined his future, but he managed to make something of himself. Although he had friends and a successful business, he was basically a lonely guy. I was happy when he 'clicked' with Candy--I thought he deserved some happiness.

Candy was likable too, although she had some family issues that she needed to work out. At times she was stubborn and unforgiving, but luckily she was able to see that about herself before she ruined her relationship with Lucas. Once again the sex scenes were scorching hot and explicit--N.J. Walters can really turn up the heat! I loved the ending too--Lucas was so unsure that he deserved Candy's love that it was sweet. These were two very satisfying novellas that earned their 5 stars!

Capturing Carly
After a short courtship Nathan and Carly are planning their wedding. However things have been moving along so fast that Carly is now uncertain about the relationship and the wedding. Nathan has to be in control in the bedroom. He is overprotective and does not listen when she complains to him about this. Carly runs her own business and she is afraid she will lose herself and her independence once she marries Nathan. It's up to Nathan to show her just how strong she is.

Craving Candy
Lucas was 18 years old when he ended up in prison. He beat up his father for abusing his mother. Now he is a succesful businessman and just finished a cookbook book of desserts and baking receipes.
Candy is a publicist and wants to promote his book. She had a difficult childhood since her father was always in prison and then her brother ended up in prison also. She made something of herself but has a hard time trusting men.

She crashes a party that Lucsa is attending and ends up dating him. When she finds out about his background she is schocked. Lucas feels he is not good enough for her and he is also afraid that he could end up hurting a women just like his father. After Candy recovers from the shock of Lucas's prison history she will do anything to get him back.

Both stories were HOT. The sexual tension and steamy love scenes were scorching. N.J. Walter is good at gripping your emotions.
