I enjoyed the connection between the main characters a lot. They were childhood friends turned to lovers, and their love for each other was inspiring. However, the weird plot twist seemed strange and irrelevant. I understood it's purpose, but it was short and anticlimactic at best. This was a rather sweet read, but nothing spectacular to me.

Reviewed for Sinfully.

The blurb of this book is what pulled me in. Unfortunately, the storyline that was promised turned out to be only a small part of the book (about 20% on my Kindle) and was quickly resolved. I was expecting a book where time travel was a main plot and that colored my reading of the rest of the book since I kept waiting for more time travel plotline which never materialized until the last pages. For me, this was less of a time-travel/sci-fi story, and more a romance with a time travel twist. That being said, I’ll do my best to review the book I read rather than the book I wanted to read, but just be aware of where my mindset was when I was reading this book. If you are a fan of friends to lovers erotica that follows a couple from childhood to their happy ever after as adults, with plenty of varied hot sex, this story might work very well for you.

The story starts with a quick overview of Charlie and Alex, from their early friendship in grade school to their life together up until the present time, in their early twenties, and gives us a good view of the couple’s dynamic and chemistry. The men are very hot together and they have a solid relationship. Charlie’s family story is sad and he deserves the happiness he finds with Alex and his family, who couldn’t be more supportive.

On his father’s death, Charlie comes into possession of a watch that, unknowingly at first, allows him to travel through time. He then discovers some things about his father and starts to fall into the same obsessive, secretive pattern. I really did enjoy this portion of the story. Told in alternating points of view, I could feel the effect it had on the relationship between Alex and Charlie, especially on Alex who has no idea what is happening. My enjoyment continued as they travelled back in time. Although Charlie locates Alex quickly, he has a whole new set of problems to overcome. There was initially tension and worry about whether Alex would come around, the man must have looked like Charlie’s Alex, but he doesn’t remember Charlie and is set to be married to a woman. Their situation is intriguing and I was invested, wondering what would happen, but it is resolved fairly quickly in page-time.

Once they return home, other than an initial “WTF was that” conversation, it felt like the entire situation was swept under the rug. Yes, Alex now knows why Charlie was acting so strange and the two men’s love is stronger than ever, but for the most part it’s back to their everyday lives. Here, the story slowed quite a bit for me here the two plan their future together and we get a lot of the details of wedding planning and their day-to-day lives. There is some indication that there might be more to the watch story, but again, that really didn’t reappear as a plot point. It’s not until the very last pages that we get back to what happened when they traveled back in time and that some unanswered questions were quickly addressed. It’s this unevenness in the story that led me to my final rating.

Yes, I was disappointed that although billed as a time travel romance where one character has to find and make the other fall back in love with him, that plotline was only a small fraction of the story. I spent much of the second part of the book waiting for something that was never going to happen. On the other hand, I did enjoy the story of Charlie finding his happiness with Alex and his family and I thought the two characters had great chemistry. There were some hiccups with dialogue in the beginning, but it flowed smoother once the story shifted to present time.

If you are looking for a story that is heavy on the science fiction/time travel aspect, I’m not sure this will fit the bill, but if you go into it as an erotic romance with a time travel sub-plot, you might get more out of it than I did.

A Joyfully Jay review.

2 stars

The blurb on this book had me expecting a story about time travel and that was the draw for me. While there is time travel in this book, it was oddly placed with little explanation of how the events were occurring. The time travel is also only one portion of the story and it then did not fit in well with the rest of the book.

The relationship between Charlie and Alex is absolute. They were the best of friends and when they came out as teens, they knew they would be together forever. We are given an overview of their relationship and we can see their connection, but the book overall lacked depth, coupled with dialogue that was often stiff.

When Charlie is given the pocket watch after his father dies, we are told many things. We are told his father time traveled often and we are then told that Charlie has started time traveling as well. We are not shown any of it and are only shown how time traveling is affecting Charlie’s behavior. Charlie just accepts the whole time travel thing as well and never once questions any of it. And, for two men that have been together their entire lives, Alex is always jealous and his first thought is that Charlie is cheating on him, which made no sense given what we are told about the two of them.

As the book goes on I’m expecting more time travel, or something to come from the past and wreck their happily ever after. The story that follows their return is sweet as Charlie and Alex’s love, caring and concern for each other is shown. They both do little things to make each other happy, for instance Charlie is planning the wedding with Alex’s mom and choose colors he knows Charlie likes. Alex learns to dance for Charlie. This is all sweet but not the story the blurb told me I am getting.

This title is available on Kindle Unlimited and I noticed it has all five star reviews. I must be the dissenting party because while I definitely liked parts of it, I did have some issue with other parts. Told in back and forth first person POV, we get inside the heads of both of them, which I liked.

Alex and Charlie are an established couple, together since their childhood. They are best friends and now partners. The beginning of the story is really just sex, how they started having it. The dialogue here is odd at times, not sounding like college guys would talk. We then get into the present, which is about Charlie’s dad and his untimely death. It really hits Charlie hard, especially when they go for the funeral and to go through dad’s house. Just as an aside, while I know Charlie has lost his father, his initial attitude towards Alex and getting married really struck me as so selfish and disrespectful. He states that Alex is “…continually beating the marriage horse to death” but we don’t see that. We just see Alex sad because Charlie shuts it all down, what he wants being more important, as Alex is being supportive, loving and kind.

As Charlie becomes more and more distant, days where they don’t see each other and no sex happening at all, Alex becomes suspicious that Charlie is on drugs or cheating. A reasonable assumption, by the way he’s acting. But things aren’t that simple and it is here the time travel aspect comes into play via a watch left to Charlie by his father. Basically, Charlie’s dad threw away his life chasing after something that couldn’t be attained and that has now passed to Charlie. Thanks, Dad.

Alex finds out what’s going on (accidentally) and a problem happens with the watch, causing the two to be sent back in time but not at the same place. And so the story continues on Charlie needing to find Alex and get them back to where they are supposed to be. There’s a bit of a twist happening and sex makes a reappearance big time.

This was an interesting story with decently fleshed out characters, if some awkward dialogue at times.

The beginning of this book is eerily familiar. I could swear that I’ve read it previously. It tells of how the two characters meet, grow up, and become a couple. The climax comes in the middle, with a time travel episode that has one character losing his memory of the past. After that is resolved, it’s all downhill; there’s no point to read any further. The last half of the book deals with party planning, with paragraphs devoted to each of four possible cakes. I skimmed quickly. Only the epilogue is remotely interesting.
Typos: several commas that should be semicolons, numerous lay/lie and me/I errors, likes that should be such as, too that is meant to be to, capitalization errors, incorrect ending quote mark placements, sentence fragments, toe head that should be towhead (that one is funny), and means spelled mean’s.

M/M romance

Alex and Charlie have been best friends ever since elementary school when Charlie was the new kid, and was getting picked on and Alex put a stop to it. Charlie’s mother died when he was young and his father was almost always away on business trips, so he’s been raised by his grandmother, and essentially Alex’s family, since they were always together hanging out. When the two of them were in high school they both came out to one another and started their relationship. Years later Charlie’s grandmother dies and Charlie is upset because they can’t get ahold of his father to tell him. Soon after that, Charlie’s father is found dead by police in a park from a heart attack. Charlie is very distraught from the news and even though he’s devastated, he has to go through his father’s old items and either keep or donate stuff. He finds a letter and a watch which tell him that the watch is magic and can make the wearer travel back in time. The letter also informs him that that is what his father did a lot, instead of being on business trips like they thought, he was going back in time to go see his wife again. Charlie uses the watch to do the same thing. Alex understands that Charlie is upset by recent events but he’s scared that he’s losing him. He thinks that Charlie is on drugs because he’s away all the time, he barely eats or sleeps, and stays away for days at a time. Alex confronts and breaks down in front of Charlie, who confesses about the time traveling watch. Alex is angry about what Charlie has been doing and accidently activates the watch and they both travel back 100 years. However, they aren’t together when they get there and Alex has to look for him only to find out that Charlie doesn’t know who he is, and he’s getting married to a woman soon. Alex must now figure out a way to not only get back home, but to try to get Charlie to remember who he is and to love him again.
I thought it was a very interesting story. I thought the time travel aspect was done very well, I just wish we were in that time period a little longer. I did enjoy reading about Charlie and Alex’s relationship and really felt their chemistry strongly. I was unsure how long it would take Charlie to find Alex, if at all, and if he’d even be able to make him fall in love again because of the strict gay laws back then so it was a gripping story.

This was my first book by this author, and I will read her again. I was nervous about a time travel story because I think I expect too much. I want timelines to work and not get confused. This author did ok with this. I mean the MC’s have known each other since childhood, but when they went back in time, one didn’t know the other. This confused me a bit, and he was going to marry a woman. I thought he had always been gay? So yeah, it was a bit confusing for me.

Alex and Charlie are an amazing couple that have grown up with each other being the best of friends. As they get older, they both realize they’re made for each other, and neither of them can imagine being with anyone else. The connection these two have just fills your heart with happiness and jealousy. And the chemistry. Holy hotness. They steamed my glasses a few times.

When Charlie’s dad passes away, their life as they knew it changes. Charlie tries to figure out why his father was gone all the time and puts the pieces together. He inherited everything including his dad’s pocket watch. Alex wants nothing more than to help Charlie through this difficult time, but Charlie’s behavior is erratic and uncharacteristic. After a big fight, they are transported back in time, and Alex has no idea who Charlie is. In fact, Alex is engaged to be married to a woman.

Can Charlie get Alex to fall in love with him again? Will either of them see the happiness they deserve with each other? Their love story will have you rooting them on, have you in tears, and you will get upset for them. Their love is so natural and you want that for yourself.
This is truly a beautiful love story, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

My five-star review of “Only Time Will Tell”
Written by T.L.Travis
I ask myself when reading love stories, how do I define love? Love is a special feeling that not everyone gets to experience and this is where Love Stories come in. Love is something wonderful, heartbreaking, timeless and emotionally riveting. Love is a constant experience I search for in the hundreds of stories I read each year. The rare occasion that I find love that genuinely shakes me to the core of my soul in a story was found in Only Time Will Tell. This science fiction M/M romance was my first ever to read. I’m proud to say I stepped out of my comfort zone with this writer and her ability to help me feel the myriad plethora of emotions that these two men had for each other. I felt a passion deeply engrained between two lovers. Sex that made me pause and reread just to better envision the scene. Description like this is hard to find and this writer knows full well how to describe the physical and emotional turmoil that represented the meaning of such an ingenious title. This love, this lust, this passion and this timeless feast was delicious to read. I was swept away and with each chapter I read slower because mindfully I wanted to enjoy the story and not just read through in order to get to the next book on my list. I felt nearly every emotion I think I possess such as, fear, lust, angst and an empathetic connection with both main characters. Alex and Charlie have a tale that needs to be read, passion to be felt and emotions to be exhilarated by.

Star rating - ★★★
Cover – I liked it.
I'm not quite sure how I feel about this book. The writing was good. The characters likable, plot good too, but the plot is the issue. It was done, almost similarly. Even the cover is close, so the entire time I'm reading, I felt like I was having deja vue since the other book came out first, even with some of the plot that wasn't the same(like the father dying). I read a book at Christmas time called A Gift of Time by Jaclyn Osborn that was strangely familiar to this. I think that's what has left me uneasy. In her(Jaclyn's) book, it's the same: two men, a clock, a fight that takes them back and a rush to meet the time or the end up separated stuck in the world without the other. I realize that it's possible to have two books with similar plots, but it was way too close. Like I said, it's a good book, so you be the judge.
**to be clear, I'm not accusing the author of copying her, just confused to why the plot is so similar, and it put me off. Maybe it's because I loved Jaclyn's book so much, and I compared too much, but I just didn't feel it as much in this book.**
So, I'm going with a 3 star because I did like it. It had some editing issues, but not horrible enough to draw you away from the plot, which is good. I would read more from this author if the book sounded good :)

Heartwarming and beautiful story

MM romance mixed with time travel, hmm, it's something that I was drawn to. I have to say that it was a very beautiful story, and heartwarming. I love a good MM romance where it is about the characters, set to a little drama with very little angst. The characters, Alex and Charlie have an unwritten, but undeniable chemistry between the two. This is one of those stories where you champion for the characters, and become invested in their happiness, while wondering what will happen next. Yes, it has those hot sex scenes, but they're not in there just for the sake of being there. It's not a rushed story, and it flows together very well.

A Truly Wonderful Story!

Alex and Charlie were created for each other without a doubt. Their story of being deeply in love with each other is so very clear. Plus, there is a mystery surprise in their story. A surprise I didn't see coming. But, it added another element into the story that kept me anticipating the outcome. There are so many things about this story that makes it a great read. And I highly recommend. ENJOY!

3.5 stars for me. I really loved the story of the two best friends recognising that they actually love each other as teens. Their love story is a beautiful story, and I felt that the addition of the whole time travel thing just felt unnecessary and ruined what was a great story all on it's own.

Wow!

I knew I would enjoy this but was surprised by how much I did. I don't normally read time travel books but since it was by T.L. Travis, I had to check it out. I'm so glad I did. I love the way she approached it. There was such heartfelt uniqueness in here. What was a nice touch was the historic feel that made me want to look dig deeper. I love when a book can get your mind working.

I very much enjoy M/M erotic romantic novels and Travis did not disappoint. Yes, the steamy bedroom scenes were there but this novel was about so much more. A love that is deeper than most ever find in one lifetime. The story starts us off with the main characters, Charlie and Alex, meeting in grade school and a friendship turning into much more. This story promises some drama, time travel, and off the charts chemistry. Highly recommended if you love romance. Very much worth the one click!
