The complete Torchship series in a single volume! A captain who’ll take any job if there’s enough money in it. A pilot with an agenda of her own. And a mechanic with an eye on the pilot. The crew of the Fives Full are just trying to make enough money to keep themselves in the black while avoiding the attention of a government so paranoid it’s repealed Moore’s Law. They’re not looking for adventure in the stars . . . but they’re not going to back down just because something got in their way. Torchship War is bad for business. The crew of the freighter Fives Full want to enjoy the profits of their dangerous voyage, but when war breaks out they're pressed into service for missions a warship can't do. Winning the war demands pilot Michigan Long act ruthlessly . . . and may cost her her conscience and her marriage. Torchship Michigan Long blackmailed her enemies into joining the war against the AIs. Now the secret she used is leaking out and the Fusion is shattering. Caught in the middle of a civil war, she will have to use any weapon that comes to hand—her wits, her ship, her mate.
Karl K. Gallagher is a systems engineer, currently performing data analysis for a major aerospace company. Interesting tales of how we will take ourselves out into the wilderness and still have the same nature. Different political opinion s and we still want to force those who disagree to call in line. A bit of Bond, but she's a girl. A bit of teamwork and a good helping of military . Got 4 stars because I reserve 5 for for books i know I will read over again. While this is good, three books centered around star battles will probably not interrupt my tbr list. Good entertainment. Glad I found it in the kindle unlimited lists.
This is a review of the trilogy in general: I liked it a lot! It's a good deal 'harder' in terms of science than I'm personally capable of managing when writing science fiction, but Karl Gallagher can also write good characters who are competent but not omnipotent. The story is engaging and the style is clean; pick this one up while you're waiting for the next Jack Campbell to come out.
Entertaining space opera, but with thriller action adventure sections as well as space ship action.
This omnibus trilogy {contains Torchship, Torchship Pilot, Torchship Captain} kept me up past my bedtime several nights in a row. Recommended for those who like this sort of thing.
