Possibly my best work yet. Sure, everyone says that, but I think it's true in this case. It's the story of Desolator, a dying warship controlled by an insane artificial intelligence, and the alien warriors trapped inside it, searching for a home.
To the humans and their allies in the system, Desolator is a potential goldmine of technology, and they will have to fight for it - but against whom, and at what cost? It's a race against time as EarthFleet's finest struggle to seize the ship, save themselves and their allies, acquire the technology, and keep Desolator from killing millions of people.
Note that this book is #2 of a series. Book #1 is contained within the Planetary Assault anthology.
Expectations remain satisfied as I continue through this fine series. Gandhi's respects his characters but even more so, he respects the reader. He keeps the story interesting with just enough explanation to keep it understandable and doesn't abuse the reader with gratuitous cursing or overly disruptive gore. As a 67 year old Christian, I felt comfortable reading the series... So far. Here's hoping , as finances allow, I am able to continue the next books, and the author keeps up his standards.
It's not often I stumble upon another author that shares my love of big words and spot on terminology. This is the second book in the series I've read and I have to say that even though I didn't start at the beginning, the characters are well fleshed out and multidimensional. There aren't too many to keep track of and I enjoy the fact that the science is well thought out and doesn't venture too far into the psudo realm.
I know this series from others further along and am glad to have read very early Eden books as well. I have become aware of the term "spoilers" and don't want to SPOIL later or earlier readers. Let's just leave it at this. This series by this author is worth reading and so this book should be added to your collection.
I spoke too soon in my review for The Plague Wars - Alien Invasion - the story continues!! Very good story, well written and 'unputdownable' - many late nights - or even early mornings if I'm honest - have occured sin e I discovered David Van Dyke. Love seeing how the characters develop, and meeting new characters.
Humans and their new alien allies find themselves battling an unknown dreadnought space vessel, and finding unexpected help along with unusual challenges.
