Read Harder (A Reading Log): Track Books, Chart Progress

Rate this book
Created by Book Riot, an online destination devoted to people who live to read, Read Harder is a smartly designed reading log consisting of entry pages to record stats, impressions, and reviews of each book you read.

This is not just a log to keep track of what you read and your own personal reviews. Evenly interspersed among these entry pages are 12 challenges inspired by Book Riot’s annual Read Harder initiative, which began in 2015 to encourage readers to pick up passed-over books, try out new genres, and choose titles from a wider range of voices and perspectives. Challenge yourself Indulge your inner book nerd and read a book about books, get a new perspective on current events by reading a book written by an immigrant, find a hidden gem by reading a book published by an independent press, and so much more. Each challenge includes an inspiring quotation, an explanation of why the challenge will prove to be rewarding, and five book recommendations that fulfill the challenge.

If you’re a book lover, buy it for yourself. If your friends and family love books, buy it for them. If you are in a reading group, buy it for all of them. If you are encouraging a child or grandchild to develop a love of books and literature, buy it for them. Each and every person will be grateful.

This is really a cute little reading journal.
I liked the challenges that it has every month but I would have liked different challenges more suited to my reading habits I suppose. Like one of the challenges was to read a book about a current political issue. I don't read stuff like that. And because the challenges we're laid out the way that they were I found myself having to jump around in the journal quite a bit in order to complete all the challenges.
Also I found it a little disheartening that every single challenge was laid out exactly the same. There was no difference in any of the challenges or in any of the pages where you log your books in. It's pretty much all the same.
I did appreciate the extra logging pages in the back of the book where you can fill in your books and check mark off how many books you read in the month.
All in all I'd have to say it's a good little reading log book but it's definitely not the greatest one I've ever seen. I would however recommend it to anyone looking for a reading journal.

it feels odd to mark this book as "read," but it is the book I've spent the most time with this year. I really enjoyed writing about most of the books I read, keeping up with a graph, and trying out the challenges. I bought a different log for next year to try, but this one holds a special place in my heart.

Challenges:
1. A Book About Books: Book Love by Debbie Tung

2. A Book You Would Normally Consider a Guilty Pleasure: Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

3. A Book About a Current Social or Political Issue: How We Get Free by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor

4. A Book That Was Originally Published in Another Language: Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi

5. A Book With an LGBTQ Main Character Written by an LGBTQ Author: All Boys Aren't Blue by George M. Johnson

6. Re-Read a Book You Read in School: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

7. An Award-Winning Young Adult Book: Pet by Akwaeke Emezi

8. A Book by an Immigrant or with a Central Immigration Narrative: The Magic Fish by Trung Le Nguyen

9. A Collection of Short Stories: Come Join Us by the Fire, edited by Theresa Delucci

10. A Book About Space: Sisters of the Vast Black by Lina Rather

11. A Book Published by an Independent Press: The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang

12. A Book by an Author from Another Continent: Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

This is a great book journal to have on hand. It gives you places to write down everything that you can think of about the books that you want to remember and keep track of.
