Rise & Shine
Rise and shine
I’ve always
felt such a fondness
for that sweet old phrase.
As though
we are all little suns.
As though
we are all someone’s day.
“My heart does not
have a fallback,
no plan B
or fail-safe,
it’s you
or no one else.”
Glimpses of lyricism:“I plant roots so
deeply in the people
I love that I always
lose a piece of myself
when they go.”
*
“Painfully, we all learn
very early on
that a human being
can break you
in a few short, simple words.”
*
“The hours between
12am and 6am
have a funny way
of making you feel
like you’re either
on top of the world
or under it.”
“And you said,
"Never forget me,"
as if the coast
could forget the ocean
or the lung
could forget the breath
or the earth
could forget the sun.”
There are
worlds in you,
and I have
fallen in love
with every one.
You want to know what it was? The moment I knew you were it? It was when I showed you the darkest parts of me, and instead of running away, you rolled out a blanket, lay on your back, and pointed out the stars.
When it comes to relationships, I have only one
rule: give me truth, however cold or cruel or
hard it is to hear.
I would rather have my heart broken, if it
means I can then release the hurt and move on,
than waste a single moment of my time being
fooled by a lie intended to preserve my feelings.
