This book is full of stereotypes. Even the quizzes are subjectively biased. I noticed this most on chakra 2 - artists. Apparently the author believes all artistic people are jumpy, agitated, restless, impulsive and fearless. And don’t forget lazy. I’m surrounded by creative people in various artistic professions and wouldn’t say this applies to many. Artists being lazy is an especially concerning viewpoint since they pour so much into their work. So a songwriting, touring, recording musician is lazy??? This occurs in some of the other types as well: builders don’t like change - I know a number of people I’d say are builders who, even if they like a home base and stability in some sense, they have no problem with change and often welcome it. You can argue this discrepancy is because of a mix of types but I still don’t think there’s any excuse for stereotyping.
I thought this book had an entertaining perspective of the chakra system and many helpful suggestions! I will probably end up reading it again at some point. I was not too thrilled with the quizzes and their scoring system, as I'm not sure it was too accurate for me. I just remember having to read through the chapters, and when I found 'mine', I could feel it. Chakras as personality types is interesting and fun to anyone fascinated by personality theory and mysticism at the same time, but I feel like the ideas could have been more fleshed out and deepened. The questions in the quiz were also incredibly obvious, and all it would take to know what question lead to what type would be a very basic introductory understanding of the chakras' associations. I admit that I skipped the quiz entirely, and didn't even bother to score myself. I just 'knew' immediately which ones would describe me best: Sacral chakra is my primary type, with the "Third eye" chakra as a secondary pattern.
One thing I think would make this book more satisfying is better descriptions of 'repressed' chakra types, and ways to heal the primary chakra of someone who has felt the need to hide or try to change their nature. The sacral chakra type was immediately acknowledged as my own, with all its sensuality, flare, and emotional intensity, yet I really would have liked to see a more expanded interpretation of how this "type" manifests when the energy has been severely blocked. Likewise, it would be amazing to see all of the personality types's blocked or disrupted variants expanded upon in that way. Society and life, in general, has a way of shocking and altering our energy systems, so that more people than not do not have easily flowing energy, and most people I meet, including myself, appear to have repressed and constricted energy flows, especially in the sacral and heart chakras. It's rare to find anyone with a constant and easy flow in these centers, and even those of us who do have a strong "flow" in either of those areas are likely to fall into imbalances of excess or hot/cold. I've "burned" myself out before letting the sacral energy center take dominance over everything else, etc. It would have been helpful to see more talk about these "types" as if they were actual energy centers, instead of limit the discussion to archetypes inspired by them.
This book was a powerful journey for me. The correlations of the Chakras, as active players within our psyche connected to our personality traits, tendencies and urges, was so REVEALING! I knew about the Chakras before, and also knew that I preferred SOME OVER THE OTHERS.
In my personal case I deeply prefer feeling, creativity and spontaneity, over long term plans, goals and commitments. Which means that I discovered myself to be a 2ND CHAKRA TYPE - AN ARTIST. This has become a new understanding of myself that made so many things fall into place.
I love how the Author in this book is deeply honest about the beauty and dark-sides of every Chakra-Type. After reading through all of them, a wave of ACCEPTANCE and CURIOSITY overwhelmed me. I could finally see a TYPOLOGY that helped me to understand that there is not ONE TRUE HUMAN IDEAL LIFE EXPRESSION, but that we are diverse and colourful beings with many layers.
The recommendations how to live a Second Chakra Type Life were as painful as helpful but I most surely am GRATEFUL!
My warmest advice to anybody to read this. Chakras are a beautiful thing. Innocent powers and forces of the cosmos in us. Some contain our innermost being, of others we learn, as our being grows, towards completion.
Reading this book is like taking a personality test, but was easier to apply to my life than others I've taken, maybe because I'm familiar with the chakras and could connect the dots better. I read and discussed this with my sister during weekly zoom sessions, and this more than anything we've done in the past made us appreciate ourselves and each other. We spent extra time wrapping it up which helped to apply and reinforce our major, secondary & third types to our goals and future vision of ourselves. Reading with a sibling emphasizes how the same events and upbringing can shape decisions and actions based on what type you are. I'm simplifying it here, but I got way more out of this book than I expected, and will definitely refer to it again.
This was enjoyable. I love anything that has to do with personality tests and types and trying to better understand the self, so this was an interesting take on the breakdown of different personalities, and I felt especially seen by the 4th chakra type, the heart chakra. This is a cool read if you're interested in chakras and like to have a better understanding of how they influence our different approaches to life.
This book was thrilling to read! The authors language is clear, precise and full of wisdom! It helps to understand onesself better. Also the description of each chakra types “shadow side” is a gateway to look through ones own struggles, for which the book also offers powerful and transformative advice! Thankyou for this treasure!
