Based on the Amazon Prime Video original series that was inspired by the classic bestselling picture book series!
Pete the Cat is whipping up a delicious dish for his class’s potluck. Pete can’t wait to share his banana casserole with his classmates. It’s his favorite lunch!
But it turns out that his friend Grumpy Toad hates bananas. How can he hate bananas if he's never tried one before? Pete shows Grumpy trying something new can be supercool and groovy with the “Three Bite Rule.”
This brand-new Pete the Cat picture book retells groovy moments from the show and includes a coloring poster!
Pete the Cat and Mom teach the Three Bite Rule to Grumpy Toad. The Three Bite rule is to try food three times before saying you don't like it. The rule can apply to anything. Try it three times before you say you don't like it. Vibrant illustrations bring this story alive. Seeing the video before reading the book will help with the song and further understanding. Reading skills first grade and up.
This was not one of my favorites in the Pete the Cat series. The story centers around The Three Bite Rule, which I think is a fantastic rule for food, but Pete's mother insists it applies to everything in life. Now this is my kind of lady, but for children, I'm not sure it's the best message.
"You don't know if you like it unless it you try it three times" works fine for a banana casserole (wtf?) but what about jumping off the top of the slide? Or trying a back flip at recess? What if this ends up being a rule to live by later in life...should one really try Fentanyl before deciding if it's a good idea?
And some people are probably just best off playing it safe and sticking to what they know. Grumpy Toad seems like one of those types who probably doesn't need to be pressed out of his limited comfort zone.
Pete the Cat tries to persuade his friend Grumpy Toad to try his banana casserole using the three bite rule. Grumpy is not convinced this three bite rule will work on him because he doesn't like bananas. As Pete the Cat and his mom tell Grumpy that the three bite rule can be applied to more than just food, it will still take a lot for Grumpy Toad to try it with a banana.
Cute book about the idea of trying something three times before deciding if you don't like it.
This book is based off of the Prime episode. It is much more of an actual story rather than the fun, catchy songs from the original books. I would recommend this book to fans of the show, but those who are looking for a book with a good rhythm probably won't like this one.
While I haven't watched the show, this book had a nice flow to it. It appeared to stick closely to the original story. It did seem a bit long, but again that may just be me unconsciously comparing it to the original Pete the Cat series.
Nice, colorful illustrations. Overall, a good book with a great message.
This was a perfect match for my picky 5 year old daughter! The theme of "Three Bites" or trying new foods or activities was explained in the fun way Pete The Cat does everything! Pete's Mom joins in helping explain to Grumpy and encouraging the their bite rule by even doing so herself. Reminding me, as a parent, to not just ask but also do so myself. A great read for a young picky eater or unsure young adventurer!
I am not a fan of Pete the Cat books, but my 4 year old likes them and I got this one from the library to encourage trying new food. I liked that the book extended the idea of trying something beyond food to include activities, but the execution is pretty strained, especially at the end, which sabotages the whole concept.
Pete and friends are lucky. our house had a ten times rule. I don't think I would be able to eat banana casserole that many times. A nice and fun story that I would read aloud to younger students.
Great book for helping kids who may be picky to find a new strategy with trying new foods... with one exception... read the book to find out what it is!
I didn’t realIze that it wasn’t written by James Dean until after it was all said and done! Not sure how I missed that. Cute story but not quite the same as the regular book collection.
I LOVE Pete the Cat and at first thought, "What is this...?" But it's about dealing with a picky eater. I love the song. I'd so do this in a storytime about food!
I loved this book! Great illustrations. I haven't watched the show, but I'm assuming the animation is similar to the illustrations in this book. Great story too! I loved the "Three Bite Rule" song and the actual rule too. I was excited to look up the song and when I did I was quite disappointed. It didn't sound like I thought it would. But maybe if I try the song two more times I'll like it? Or it might just reaffirm the fact that I don't like it haha
It is the day of the potluck lunch at school and everyone is making their favourite food to take. Grumpy Toad says he doesn’t like Pete’s banana casserole, although he hasn’t eaten bananas, so Pete and his mom teach him the three bite rule. He uses that rule at the potluck lunch.
Super cute book as always in this series, and I loved the message it promotes of not being scared to try new things. However, I did miss the original illustrator’s touch here—these illustrations were lifted from the TV show and they were not as detailed, quirky, or charming (especially in the characters’ facial expressions) as in the original Pete the Cat series. I read this e-book through the Hoopla app for free through my library.
