Hubba hubba! This is my second read by Autumn Bardot (I read Confessions of a Sheba Queen a few months ago) and I was NOT disappointed! I'm a relative newbie when it comes to erotica but I have always adored short stories and myths so this collection was gold for me! Bardot spins lusty tales out of many classic myths that readers know and love as well as introducing many tales that were new to me. From Africa to Japan to India to Egpyt to Ireland to America and more; there is something for everyone! Every tale is steamy, seductive, and deliciously naughty. In one story a faerie demands a toll from virgins passing through his woods; but what happens when he falls for one of the maidens? In another an Amazon goddess falls for a mortal man who knows how to do magical things to her body. In yet another one, the Native American trickster god, Kokopelli, seduces and impregnates young willing women while showing them a thing or two about pleasure. Each story is better than the next. A marvelous collection!

Ah, the lost art of being dirty in refined way! And if this book is to be believed, our classic ancestors didn't even need to try at it, they just were.

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reader copy of Legends of Lust and all I can say is, "Who knew erotica could be so smart?!" I was absolutely enthralled with the short, sexy stories as I traveled through time and across the world. Each chapter is beautifully written and extra steamy. Autumn Bardot's writing style is hard to come by in this genre. She crafts each tale in a unique way, being captivating and clever while being downright nasty and naughty. One thing that stood out to me the most though, was how meticulously researched each story was - the short asides at the end of each tale seamlessly blend fact and fantasy. Bardot's collection includes something for everyone, with treats derived from Celtic myths to those of the ancient Greeks, and starring such players as the well-endowed Native American god Kokopelli to the decadent Queen of Sheba (Hello, milk baths!). This is definitely not your typical cheesy, Fabio-covered romance novel. Legends of Lust is a masterfully crafted gift from a divine, sexual oracle. You'll never look at historical fiction the same way again.

Since I really enjoyed this author's paranormal romance under a different pen name, I was happy to receive a copy of Legends of Lust in exchanged for an honest review.

This is the first time I've read a book in this genre that's a compilation of short stories. Each story took me 15-20 minutes to read, which makes this a great option for readers who have small pockets of reading time. I prefer stories that go into more depth and have a slow build but I know there is a growing demand in the market for shorter reads. Ms. Bardot did a great job selecting myths from multiple cultures and time periods. Each story was a nice balance between heat (and there is plenty of that) and mythical education. Some of these myths I knew but most were new to me. The writing is very good and even lyrical at times (The Kiss).

I reviewed this book which was provided for free by the publisher. However, I do not receive any compensation for reviews. All book reviews are My personal and subjective opinion.

As a lover of mythology, folklore, and fairy tales, when Legends of Lust by Autumn Bardot appeared on my radar I jumped at the chance to review it. Upon reading, I was pleasantly surprised to discover lore that I hadn't encountered before. Though it would have been easy to write strictly from the Greco Roman mythos that western civilization is most familiar with, Bardot draws inspiration from the isles of the North Atlantic to the Amazon jungle and everywhere in between.

Containing 14 short stories, Legends of Lust enchants with rich, picturesque erotica sure to fulfill most any sexual appetite. Though folklore is traditionally dark, full of rape, murder, and treachery, Bardot expertly avoids all of those pitfalls in her tales, leaving us with delightful steamy consensual scenes. Sensual heterosexual vanilla sex gives way to power exchange, tantra, bondage, and orgies. We encounter jinn, fae, celestial beings, and shapeshifters delighting the reader with fantasy experiences us mere mortals could otherwise only dream about. Additionally, though not the focus, love (forbidden, true, and polyamory) make appearances providing depth to each lascivious encounter.

Autumn Bardot entices the reader with her vivid descriptions, luring them in until completely immersed in the scene she creates, tantalizing the senses. We are treated to flavors of each region: tasting the local fair, dressing in their style, and feeling the world around them. Bardot changes writing style so the voice of the story matches the setting, anywhere from the ancient to the modern world, making each tale markedly different than the last. Casually throwing out jargon and terminology native to the setting, Autumn uses phrases in context so we can appreciate the cultural flavor without breaking suspension of disbelief, or fatiguing from vocabulary overuse. Concluding each narrative is a short description of the original source material, how to discover more about it, or other pertinent tidbits so you may continue journeying with your new companions.

Well written and a wonderful read, one could easily devour the entire compilation in a single zealous sitting...if you can handle it. With an endless supply of narratives from which to choose, Bardot could continue on with Legends of Lust (and I hope she does) making it a series, one that I would happily own. Until then, I will be eagerly awaiting Autumn's next book, Confessions of a Sheba Queen, set to release January 2020.

I always found mythology a source of endless imagination and provocation. This collection of short stories takes some characters from these ancient myths and breathes life into their lustful memories. Not only do these characters reflect their status in past times and places, but the elegant language portrays the customs, objects and clothes necessary to picture them as both human beings and larger-than-life-people.

The stories are short enough to delight the imagination for a little while without constricting our busy schedule. There are plenty to choose from. Odysseus sets his cunning and dominance free on his beautiful captor and gets his freedom in pleasurable ways too. A conquest of lust and love between a hero and a warrior Amazon queen. An Indian sage who finds Nirvana in the arms of a divine nymph.

This treasure trove of 14 retellings of myths morphs into sensual tapestries of passion, exotic cultures and otherworldly creatures. I enjoyed all of them because each story is beautifully composed, the characters are artfully drawn and every couple retains their uniqueness and sensual spark. Often in these tales powerful women succumb in fortunate ways to the enthralling masculinity of their lovers. They also celebrate female empowerment like in The Kingdom of Women.

The Queen of Winter's story is particularly delightful and humorous with an old woman's wisdom. The ballad of Tamlin is also quite fun. I found one of the stories to be bold and clever when it revived the famous meeting of the Queen of Sheba and King Solomon. One of my favourite is the Armenian folktale which reminds me of a fairytale touched by mischief. Really surprising.

This bundle wraps up with a tale of exotic and wild sensuality which is the perfect brooch for a chain of bright imaginings. I enjoyed myself very much ;-)

For me, the main selling point of this book is that it is based off a wide variety of international myths and historic time periods. Bardot certainly had her research cut out for her, and while I can't say whether there are any inaccuracies or anachronisms, I did feel like each myth had its unique time, place, and language. Nevertheless, the dialogue was sometimes too modern and pulled me out of the story.

The negative for me was that the dialogue was often so exuberant (with sexual vocalizations clumsily written out) that it sometimes felt like the book was written by a 16-year-old. The characters, especially women (even if they weren't young girls), came off childish and excitable.

There were also a lot of editing errors -- missing letters, missing hyphens and paragraph breaks in dialogue, a mare described as "he," and strangely enough, some words made partly of superscript letters and normal letters.

I really liked this particular line:
"A man must learn to cope with life's troubles or suffer from the worst malady of all, fear."

And now, I shall rate each story individually:
Mistress of the Isle (**) Odysseus and Calypso
By Sword Tip (****) Hippolyta and Thesus
Under the Arjuna Tree (***) Menaka and Vishmamitra
The Walk (**) The Women's Kingdom ("Asian Amazons")
Web of Lies (****) Jorogumo, Japanese spider bride

The Kiss (***) Cailleach
Of Tolls and Tithes (****) Tam Lin
Diplomatic Necessities (****) Queen of Sheba and King Solomon
River Runner (****) Kokopelli
Riding the Mare (**) Lulizar and friends

The Vacation Fling (***) Encantado
Aflame (***) Brynhild and Sigund
Good Medicine (***) impundulu
Seven Nights (****) Shamhat and Enkidu

3 Cranky Stars

I was looking forward to reading this book. The Teaser sounded intriguing. However, I can only give it 3 stars out of 5. This is an anthology of 14 different stories ranging from Greek/Roman myths to European, Japanese and Chinese folk tales. The author starts out strong with the first myth and cleverly turns it into an erotic tale. The second story wasn’t too bad either. But by the time I got to 5, I was bored. Each story was the same in its erotic content.

I pushed through till I got to story number 11 and then I started to skim read. If the author really wants to improve this book, I recommend she take just a couple of the myths and expand on them. Find some different words to use to describe the sex acts in each story. Using the same phrases over and over becomes redundant.

I did like that she explained the background information on each myth/legend. There will probably be some readers who disagree with me and love this book. I hope for the author’s sake they find this book.

This week’s I Love Romance Blog review selection is Legends of Lust by Autumn Bardot. If you’re a fan of mythology, history, or ass-kicking women finding true lust (and sometimes love), this one is for you!

This book is a new release that, in fourteen short stories, tell the tales of remarkable women finding the men that match them in their infamy. From all realms of traditional historical fiction, Autumn kicks the heat up and had me clutching my pearls more than once. It is rare to find stories that are an equal mix of romance and erotica, but the author does a great job of blending the two.

As an added bonus, at the end of each story, the author has provided the original story’s information so we know how to find the foundation of each. I don’t think I’m going to be the only one wanting Odysseus’ story to be a full-length novel.

I’m a nitpicky kind of reader, but I’m hard pressed to find anything I didn’t like – definitely add this to your reading list! For shear awesomeness and entertainment – I give Legends of Lust by debut author Autumn Bardot 5 Stars!

I loved this book! Each story was unique, well written, and umm.... more sultry then the last. I really liked the short story format - and really enjoyed all the different kinds of gods and mythical creatures - who knew I could be so into Gilgamesh?

I had the good fortune of reading an advanced copy of Autumn Bardot’s debut novel and I was not disappointed. It is a collection of 14 erotic myths from around the world. Ms. Bardot was able to weave sexy and erotic takes to well-known myths, like the tale of Gilgamesh and the temple prostitute, Shamhat, to the Norse tale of Brunhild and the death of Sigurd that would make Richard Wagner proud, if not a little embarrassed…since this erotica. To the Amazonian Queen Hippolyta and her ever-growing need to escape with her new found lust-inducing lover, King Theseus. There are even erotic myths from cultures that are not normally read about, like the Ecuadorian myth of the lustful and erotically charged “Encantado” who can masterfully seduce his/her pray and have their pray wanting for more. Unlike other erotic fiction novels, Ms. Bardot also has the skill to weave historical facts and authenticity to her writing which is quite refreshing. Along with the steamiest encounters throughout mythology, the reader is treated to a readable and relatable tour through our common human history. These 14 stories well have your loins pulsating and your brain working that will not disappoint. I look forward to Autumn continued excursions and incursions into the world of Erotica.

I was pleasantly surprised by how well this author was able to take well known myths, and turn them into such increble short erotic stories, without losing their original history.
The author used a phenomenal blend of the history of the myth that was able to give credence and education factors, while also using her unique storytelling and imagination to give the story a new spin.

I’ve always loved myths from all over the world so I was excited to get a chance to read these. I loved the first and second story the most. I favorited these since I was more familiar with but enjoyed a few others. I would liked them to have been a little longer but it left me wanting more which is the goal. It was interesting to read some from other cultures, a few of them were a bit out of my comfort zone but I did give them a chance. I’d give it four stars.- By Tiffany

Gods and Goddess' was this a fabulous read 💕
This is my first time reading this author and definitely will not be my last
Legends of Lust is a collection of sensually erotic shorts that truly captivate and entertain the reader - A carnal journey that takes a closer looker at some of the greatest love stories in mythology - a little bit of embellishment and imagination was used during creation - but you never know it could have happened that way 😉
I found myself endeared to the characters almost upon entering their stories - I could not choose a favorite among them
This is a perfect "nightstand" collection as each short read is independent and therefore can be read as a standalone

My more accurate score of this book would be a 3.6 but my rule is to round down. Having said that I really enjoy what this book does with the liberation of female sexuality and the tie-ins to a diverse collection of mythology. Mythology fanfiction but all mythology could be argued to be fanfiction anyway, this just has a sexier spin. Lol make sure you have headphones for the audiobook or you may get some look

The fourteen steamy stories in Legends of Lust turn existing classics of world mythology into pulse-quickening tales of erotic adventure. For example, Wikipedia will tell you that Zeus ordered the nymph Calypso to release the imprisoned Odysseus, which she reluctantly does. Yawn. Legends of Lust spices up those dry plot points, sensually exploring an alternate version where Odysseus bargains with goddess: if she’ll help him build a boat sturdy enough for him to make his escape, he’ll give her the greatest orgasm she’s ever had. What follows is a sexy slow-burn of teasing and anticipation, drawn out to a, shall we say, explosive conclusion. From the Epic of Gilgamesh to the Ballad of Tam Lin, each story in the collection uncovers a sexual escapade hiding between the cracks of the existing tales, kind of like an erotic Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. And with each story averaging twenty pages, it’s easy to breeze through one in a single sitting, perfect for that dismal train commute or whenever you need a sexy little pick-me-up.

I will never look at Greek mythology the same. Though this collection includes stories from all over the world, Bardot’s writing in Ancient Greece and Rome is, in my opinion, far superior to anything else. I was first introduced to her work in The Emperor’s Assassin, which I loved, so I might be biased.

I have to say, I was instantly intrigued by the cover of the book and knew I just had to have it. As soon as I started reading, I was taken aback by just how seductive and alluring the stories were that I had to continue reading. I kept thinking to myself, is it just me, or is it hot in here?

description

I loved this collection of stories which combines romance and history all in one. There are a few which have become my favourites but all of them offer something different and something incredible. Some of the characters are cheeky and cunning in getting what they want and, on more than one occasion, I felt myself blushing. These retellings are brilliant and Autumn Bardot gives us a little more information about the historic figures and where we can go to read more about them. Who knew that history could be so kinky? I'm excited to discover more about these characters and think Autumn Bardot has done a fantastic job in getting people excited about ancient myths.
