‘60 spells that focus on herbs and their energies.’
Australian author Cheralyn Darcey is an Environmental Artist, Author and Botanical Explorer who has a passion for encouraging us to reconnect with Nature. She has travelled, researched and explored the cultures and histories from all times, places and beliefs and the connections humans have developed, not only the usage of plants but also the spiritual qualities of plants. Uniquely in the Mind Body Spirit genre, Cheralyn illustrates her own publications with her field sketches and her fine art works and through this brings us a very complete, pure and rich resource and reference. She has stated, ‘creating works that encourage others to look a little deeper at what is already here, encourages a greater care and understanding of our Earth and ourselves’
THE BOOK OF HERB SPELLS is exactly that –‘Herbs are plants that, through their aromatic or savoury properties, present usage in medicinal, culinary or spiritual application. In this book of herbal spells, we will explore the magickal qualities of herbs and learn along the way the history and the botanical lore that will bring us again a little closer to Nature. In doing so we may instigate change, support, and inspiration when needed.’
Cheralyn divides her herb spells in collections – love relationships and friendship; Home, family and pets; Study, career ad money; Protection, clearing and banishment; Health, self-care and happiness; and Spirituality, Faith and divination.
In sharing how she achieves her spells Cheralyn speaks of each herb, the times when the spell should be cast, finding and gathering the elements needed, and how to create and spell – words, utensils, and the target of the spell – when to use it and how. Along with each spell are beautiful artworks of plants and herbs, page design, and added tidbits of information about the herbs being used.
A journey into the mystical is within reach. Follow Cheralyn’s book and spirit and sense the changes. The book is an artistic treasure and an invitation to explore the mysteries of the universe through plants.
If you're looking for a spell recipe book that relies heavily on herbal magic then this is for you. Excellent for beginners and intermediate witches too. This book is beautifully laid out, and lovely to look at. A perfect size, not too big as to be overwhelming but not too small either. I have used a couple of the spells and they've worked really well. I love that she offers suggestions for alternative herbs too. The spells included are diverse and helpful too.
Visually beautiful book. This book is just beautiful to look at, great addition to any witchy library. I love all the care and details. And on top of that the spells are great, I have already done a couple and work wonderfully. The author also offers alternatives to some herbs/flowers which is very helpful. Only thing, I wish there were more spells.
Beautiful organization. Stunning illustrations. Directions seem easy to follow. Though, I'd say this book of spells is for the intermediate to seasoned practitioner due to most of the ingredients necessary aren't that easy to be found. I like the blank pages at the back of the book, though. I suppose if you go out of your way to find the ingredients needed, it would work very well to your craft.
As a white Australian author, who originally published and wrote this material in 2018, Cheralyn Darcey should know better than to suggest using white sage and the term "smudging." It's culturally appropriative and disrespectful, also white sage is considered to be an endangered species. As a botanical alchemist and organic gardener, she should not be suggesting harvesting an endangered species. There's just no excuse for modern authors to be disrespectful of closed practices.
