Waterfell Tweed #4

Murder Most Remote

Rate this book
A Scottish castle. Ten visitors. One dead body.

Sandy Shaw expects her trip to the island of Mull to be a relaxing break with new boyfriend Tom Nelson.

A guided tour around Mull Castle is just what she had in mind.

Until the lights go out.

And one person doesn't survive the dark.

With a murderer amongst them, and the mainland police unable to help until the storm passes, it's up to Sandy to solve the case.

Murder Most Remote is a novella of around 28,000 words. Light and cozy, the book follows our female amateur sleuth and a whole host of quirky characters! Each book in this series can be read as a standalone (but is better enjoyed if read in order), and is free from swearing, sex, violence and cliffhangers. This is Book Four in the Waterfell Tweed Cozy Mystery Series.

Sandy Shaw and her boyfriend Tom Nelson had a weekend away from their jobs where they could relax and get to know one another better. Booked into a B&B on the Scottish island of Mull, they decided on day one to head to Mull Castle to be tourists.

The group of ten which Sandy and Tom attached themselves to for the tour were an American family on a two week vacation. When the lights suddenly went out while the tour guide was in the middle of an explanation, Sandy’s first thoughts were of the resident ghost. But when the guide returned with a torch and they all saw the body on the floor, the shock was great.

Sandy found herself as chief investigator with the mainland police unable to arrive until the storm had abated. What would she discover? And were any more of the visitors to the castle in danger?

Murder Most Remote is #4 in the Waterfell Tweed Cozy Mystery series by Mona Marple. It’s a novella and although I haven’t read any others in the series, it easily reads as a standalone (and I needed a fourth in a series for a challenge!) I quite like the characters of Sandy and Tom and will likely go back to the beginning of the series at some stage. Recommended.

Sandy and Tom go on a buying trip to Scotland as her shop needs more books. She makes her appointment just a few minutes late and the seller was a bit cranky but even so she ends up buying all of his books. They have another day so they are going over some brochures and decide to take a tour of an old castle that's on an island that's not too far away. They get there and there is this guy shouting at them to hurry up that the tour is getting ready to start. They thought this was a self guided tour. All of the other members of the tour are a family on a trip to Scotland together. They are going through the rooms that they are guided to and all of a sudden the lights go out. The guide goes to the power box and when the lights come back on the mother/grandmother of the group is found dead. Sandy knows someone in the room is a killer, but who?

I loved this mystery. Who doesn't like a killer in a run down old castle in Scotland? A change of scenery from Waterfell Tweed didn't hurt either.

*~~*ARC kindly provided by the author to me in exchange for an honest review *~~*

Sandy is on a business trip/vacation to Scotland with her newish boyfriend Tom when both are involved in a crime scene in an ancient castle during a surprising - and not planned - tour. Sandy, confident investigating & solving crime cases before, sees it as her determination to interview the suspects as long as they are trapped in the castle, waiting for the police to arrive.

I really liked the flow of this book and with setting the book to Scotland there was a refreshing change in the location. It was also spiced up with the family from America who all wanted to have a nice vacation but witnessed a murder.

Sandy is investigating in a very confident way and you really see how she is following the logical arguments, questions the suspects individually and we as reader can follow this process really good, make the own suspects and try to solve the crime case.

Tom, Sandy's boyfriend is her anchor, her haven when she is currently lost and need support. It's sweet to see how both are getting along, what dynamics they have and that they can enjoy their trip at least after they've solved the mystery. I'm really looking forward what's coming next and if it's getting even more cozy. :3

This book was an entertaining read, great for a rainy, cold or otherwise unpleasant day, great to snuggle into blankets and pillows and relax while trying to solve the case along with Sandy and Tom. 4.5 out of 5 stars for it. Sandy is unstoppable, even in Scotland. :D

I was given this book for free for an honest opinion.
Murder Most Remote is Waterfell Tweed fourth installment and my favorite so far.
Sandy and Tom are off to Scotland to replenish Sandy’s stock of books for her bookstore. Even though she is looking forward to some relaxing time with Tom, Sandy can’t shake a feeling that something bad is going to happen.
While there, they managed to get a tour of a famous castle. Part of their group is a colorful American family whose matriarch gets herself stabbed in the back during the electricity shortage.
Since police are delayed due to bad storm Sandy takes matters into her own hands and starts questioning suspects in best Agatha Christie fashion.
I really enjoyed this book because it has a feel of old fashioned cozy mysteries. It takes place outside of Waterfell Tweeds and we get to meet some new characters.
I liked how Sandy is getting more and more sure of herself and her ability to solve mysteries. I also appreciate that her romance with Tom moving along as well.
Fun, entertaining read with good plot and old lovable sleuth.

Sandy and her boyfriend Tom travel to Scotland to examine and maybe purchase an entire estate's worth of books for Sandy's expanded bookstore and bakery. The purchase goes smoothly so they take a day to explore a nearby castle. That's where the trouble begins! As the lights go out in the banquet hall, the matriarch of a wealthy American family is soon found stabbed with an antique dagger. Sandy, of course, can't help but investigate as it turns out the local constabulary are cut-off from the island because of weather. With Tom by her side, she narrows down the list of suspects and presents it to the Scottish police as a fait accompli.
This was my least favorite of the first 4 Waterfell Tweed cozies. The storyline was great and at 120 pages, it was a quick read. I think Ms Marple would have benefited from an America editor or even Beta reader to help smooth out the dialogue of what were mostly American characters.

A short cozy with a locked room type mystery! Only 2 characters that you've come to know from Winterfell Tweed are present in this story but it's still filled with action, suspense and murder! I did miss the goings on in Sandy's cafe/book store but it was fun to visit a new locale.
Sandy and Tom go on an innocent tour of a Scottish castle but once again find themselves in the middle of a murder scene! Sandy quickly takes charge off questioning the suspects since the proper authorities can not be present due to a storm. Even after only assisting with solving a few mysteries, Sandy is up for the job and expertly interviews one suspect after another. You definitely will keep turning the pages to see what happens and will be kept guessing until the very end.

Addictive!

This novella is the fourth is the series. Sandy goes on a book buying trip to Scotland, The Isle of Mull, with Tom. A visit to the castle should have been innocent enough, but murder seems to follow Sandy around… Yes, another murder. And someone needs to take charge. That someone’s name begins with S ;)

A lovely closed environment murder case. A party of eight, not inclusing Sandy or Tom, and one of them is a killer… WHO?!

Where Sandy was hesitant before, she shows some great leadership here, much to her own surprise. A very capable investigator, our Sand. Waterfell Tweed is totally addictive. Once I started the series I just couldn’t stop.

Castles and murders. How trite!

Well, murder in an old castle may be trite, but the story line and characters certainly were not. The family dynamics were, unfortunately, very real. The characters probably will all seem familiar to you. We all know people like them. The solution to the murder was a bit heart tugging, but it was an altogether good read. Sandy gets better with each book.

Murder Most Remote (Waterfell Tweed #4) was a good read by Mona Marple. Sandy Shaw takes a trip to the Island of Mull. She hopes it will be a relaxing break with her new boyfriend Tom Nelson. She is on a guided tour around Mull castle, when the lights unexpectedly go out. Unfortunately one person doesn’t survive. The mainland police can’t get there until the storm passes so Sandy works to solve the case. This was a good quick read, I can’t wait to read more by the author.

Short mystery

This is a short mystery with a surprising twist. Sandy and Tom are in Scotland on a castle tour when someone is murdered. She has to solve it quickly! The only negative is that the family is portrayed as obnoxious Americans. I'm American and I promise we don't all act like that. (I'm also from the South and we really don't act like that).

Loving our accidental sleuth

I'm completely hooked on Waterfell Tweed and can't seem to put it down. I've read 4 books in 3 days and about to download the next. The gentleness, the clever protagonist and the relationships are right up my street. I wouldn't fancy living in that windy village, but I sure wish Books and Bakes was in my neighbourhood!

I enjoyed this mystery story. The characters were interesting and there were multiple motives to look at. There was one small question I was left with although it wasn't actually relevant to the solution to the mystery but I was still curious about who were the other two guests booked for the tour that the guide mistook them for.

Murder Most Remote

Very nice cozy mystery. This author allows you time to get to know the characters without revealing the killer until near the end. Smooth transition page to page with Sandy being the detective again. Great series!

Surprised

I didn't expect the ending that I got! I had it figured out, then Sandy revealed the truth.
But then Mina Marple loves to keep us guessing and an is really good at it.

Sandy and Tom go on holiday and end up in the middle of a murder. They go on tour and an American family is there and one of the family was killed. It was nice seeing them in another area. The American family were really interesting. I enjoy this series.
