This really was one of the most complex books i read in the last years. It demands highest concentration from the reader because there are so many new ideas of parallel worlds and how they are connected to each other, further more many new species of humans or mixed beings that are introduced. The complete idea of the being of crows and friends or enemys is maddeningly complicated and shown through the complete book. I have no idea how someone even can imagine and write about this world. Also there are several fast jumps from location to others or situations to other that makes it hard to follow and understand the ongoing story. In the moment you think you are free of questions there comes the next several questionmarks. But i still think this book is worth a read because its an absolute fantastic universe Halo Summer wrotes about. I am really happy that i made it through the complete Book and will start Book 2 "Der Grubenmann" now. I really hope its an easier read. I only give 3* because its really hard read and not for everyone- even not for every Summer-fan. Its not compareable to the other books of Halo like Sumpfloch or Mondlicht. Its nothing bad with this book but if you think about reading this book you better know before starting that you as a reader must give more than just sitting back and enjoying an easy ride.

Dieses Buch hat mich fast verzweifeln lassen. Von Halo Summer bin ich eigentlich leichte Lektüre gewohnt, doch durch dieses Werk musste ich mich, zumindest die ersten 300 Seite hindurchkämpfen.
Die Beschreibung klang vielversprechend, deshalb entschied ich mich auch für die gedruckte Version und nicht für die viel preiswertere e-book Ausgabe.
Das mir das Lesen so unheimlich schwer viel lag zu einem großen Teil daran, dass ich einfach keine Verbindungen zu den Charakteren aufbauen konnte. Man wird von Kapitel zu Kapitel geschoben ohne dass man sich der Welt des Buches sicher sein konnte. Das mag beabsichtig sein, aber stört die innere Erzählstimme.
Und trotz dieses Umstandes werde ich mir den zweiten Teil des Romans wohl auch zulegen, da die Autorin es verblüffender Weise geschafft hat den Spannungsbogen quasi im letzten Moment so weit anzuheben, dass man plötzlich das Gefühl hat alles verstanden zu haben und jetzt mit dem nächsten Teil das letzte Puzzelteil hinzufügt.

Definitvely not the most terrifc read, quite plain actually, but it compliments the easy, unhurried flow of the plot. There's neither too much nor too less detail, but it's actually quite an amount of plot with many unnecessary, almost boring parts. It's nothing that chains you down, it rather takes some overcoming to pick it up, so it takes some time to get on and finish. The characters are interesting, but by not getting to know too much about them, the read loses depth. The idea of the plot, of the world and its rules, are good enough.
