All Devlin wants to do is find a good new home for his business and his pack. He’s not looking for any complications, but he finds something he never expected—a mate. A mate with a whole lot of energy who attracts trouble like a magnet.

Laine Campbell never means to get himself into hot water, but everything has a way of getting tangled up between his feet. He needs more than just a mate—he needs a savior.

When Dev turns up at a pack get-together, Laine finds both. The two werewolves have an instant attraction, but the pack Alpha is determined to keep Laine for himself. Dev soon learns the only way to protect his mate is to fight, not just for the top spot—but for his life.

JL has been talking since she was about seven months old. To those who know her it comes as no surprise, in fact, most will tell you she hasn’t shut up since. At eighteen months, she was speaking in full sentences. Imagine if you will the surprise of her admirers when they complimented her mother on “what a cute little boy” she had and received a fierce glare from said little boy and a very loud correction of “I’m a girl!” Oddly enough, JL still finds herself saying that exact phrase thirty-some-odd years later.

Along with the motormouth, JL also displayed a very vivid imagination and artistic ability. The artist first surfaced in way of drawing and painting, then became more apparent with dance. JL was a member of the National Art Honor Society in high school and has won several regional and national titles in dance, specifically tap and jazz. In college she majored in Graphic Art, but chose to make dance her profession. She taught tap, jazz and ballet for fifteen years before settling into her career as a writer.

Today JL is a full-time writer, with over ten novels to her credit. Among her hobbies she includes reading, practicing her marksmanship (she happens to be a great shot), gardening, working out (although she despises cardio), searching for the perfect chocolate dessert (so far as she can tell ALL chocolate is perfect, but it requires more research) and arguing with her husband over who the air compressor and nail gun really belongs to (they belong to JL, although she might be willing to trade him for his new chainsaw).

She also writes under the name Jeigh Lynn

Devlin Johns is an Alpha werewolf looking for a new location for his construction business. Laine Campbell is an Omega werewolf who is delicately built, effeminate, submissive, and a klutz. Dev and Lainey meet while Lainey is being punished by his Alpha for his insolence and discover they are destined to be mates.

I really wanted to love this story. Overall, it was fast-paced and fun. The main characters were very appealing and the love scenes were sizzling. Even though Laine was an Omega and a weaker wolf, his childish behavior on numerous occasions was overdone and grated on my nerves. I would have preferred a more equal and balanced relationship. At times I felt Laine needed a babysitter instead of a mate.

Still, the main and secondary characters were well-developed and interesting enough considering the short length of the story.

After reading this book, I am really anxious to read the rest in the series. I didn't like it as well as the other J.L.Langley books, but I did enjoy it. I think Lainey, although very cute, was too giggly and too clumsy for my taste. I thought he and Devlin were pretty well matched, and I commend Devlin for his patience with Lainey's exploits! Very cute and sweet book.

I have seen mixed reviews about this book, so I really didn't know what I would think of it. True, it is not about two uber-masculine men meeting and falling in lover with one another.
Laine is definately more flamboyant than most heroes I have read about...but I still liked him and I still enjoyed this story.

Devlin Johns has come to Asheville to relocate his business. Being a wolf-shapeshifter, he has arranged a meeting with the local Alpha to let him know he is in town, and may want to join the pack. When he comes across the Alpha and a few of his followers beating up and trying to rape a smaller framed, handsome man. Dev immediately jumps in and rescues the man. Although the man becomes unconscience, Devlin immediately recognizes two things. One this delicate man is the Omega of the pack and two this Omega is his mate.

When Laine Campbell woke up in a strange hotel room he is immediately put at ease when he sees Devlin. Not only is Devlin handsome, smart and very alpha, Laine is very happy to realise that Devlin is his mate. Laine is the Omega of the pack and is used to the Alpha pushing him and the other pack members around. But, after a few moments with Devlin he feels protected and knows that Devlin will do what he must to keep him and the others safe.

Laine is not your typical hero. He is clumsy, accident prone and more feminine than most of the heros I have read about. I still liked him though. He was silly at times, but he had his funny and endearing moments for me throughout the book. I understand why he was written this way...after all he is the heart of the pack so he is more sensitive than most, so for some reason I thought he and Devlin fit somehow.

With a cast of interesting characters and some pack politics With Love was definately an interesting read. I liked it because it was different and an easy read for me on a lazy afternoon.

If you are offended by hot sex and explicit language this story is not for you.

Um.... I liked the epilogue?
This book was really cartoony and ridiculous. And I must beg to differ with all the reviewers that said it was well-written. I'm not sure what standards of writing they're going by, but... sorry, no. It wasn't horrendous or anything. It's just not anything I would call good.
I tend to really like the more "effeminate" (hate that word but sometimes it says what I mean better than anything else) and flamboyant characters, but I don't like when they get turned into a caricature of an offensive female stereotype. Laine could have been really likeable but I think he was treading the wrong side of that line.

This book crack me up!

A very quick reading and so much funny! I just LOVED IT!
The clumsy omega (last member in a werewolf hierarchy) Laine meet his mate, the huge and strong, Devlin Johns right away. And you will have no time to take a breath! Will be a laugh after another! Laine is the equivalent of a bull in a china shop!

I recommend this short, and incredible fun, story to all! Read it folks!!! There is also action but it's the fun that will keep you reading...

Have fun! And certainly you will enjoy it as I did!

This mate/instant love theme is saved by the adorable character of Lainey Campbell. Seriously, this spitfire/klutz/magnet for trouble wolf is just so frickin' cute!!! He makes the story such fun to read -- despite the instant love and well (at least personally, for me) the number of sex scenes. Truthfully, I enjoy reading everything that happens outside the bedroom scene (I read the first one or two sex scenes and skim the rest) because the interaction between Lainey and everyone else, including Dev and Caroline, is entertaining.

The rest of the story is pretty much similar to other shifter/mate stories I have read. Nothing new, really. Pretty angst-free.

This is really 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Lainey and Dev! I just wish there was a bit more done with the villan - the final fight scene seemed a tad (a very tiny tad) anti-climatic.

"fly by the seat of one's pants" BR with Susan

Cheesy this was.... OMG!!

We all know with shifters we get insta-love, they are horny all the time...

description

"You’re very handsome."
"What’s your name?"
"Laine."
"I want to kiss you,"
"You’re my mate and I don’t intend on sharing you. From here on out, it’s just you and me, Laine."
"Good, can we have sex now…please?"

= page 18

And I mean, Lainey... He is such a klutz. It was just not that funny!

I almost couldn't take this anymore. I really am a sucker for cheesy but this even pushed my limits.

I love the rest of the series, though!!

After re reading this one I’m finding it hard to believe it was written by the same author as the rest of this series.

While I found Lainey’s clumsiness cute to an extent, his girlish giggling grated on my nerves. Throw in a female version of him in the form of Caroline and I was ready to quit. Listening to the two of them together was painful.

The story line of Dev taking over as Alpha would of worked so much better if the Alpha he had to fight was a worthy opponent. Seriously we are lead to believe Alphas are the strongest and biggest yet this Alpha was nothing more than an over weight bully. Why couldn’t he of at least been a big strong bully? One everyone else had a reason to fear?

Due to the book being a short there was far to much sex and not enough plot.

I can only give thanks that J L Langley went on to perfect her craft. Unlike a lot of authors who continue to churn out the same drivel, she went on to produce a pretty great series. Don’t be put off if you read this book first. I’m glad I actually started this series with book 2 lol

Re-read and Re-rated from a 4 to a 2.

I would say this shifter story is for fans of J L Langley. For those that like her style and know how she crafts her characters and love scenes. She is a great writer but the plot is an average mated shifter story. With a sprinkle of vengence thrown in for good measure.

I like that you can enjoy Dev and Laine together or apart. You can read about them chatting with friends, or, in bed and they are equally engaging. Laine was a giggling, goofy clumbsy acting kid but since that endured him to Dev I did not mind those flaws. Even secondary characters Caroline and Cole added a bit to the story.

At only 60 pages [e-book:] the story begins, picks up and ends quickly. I think that Dev and Laine being mates explains their instant deep love and therefore more time can be spent with the physical side of the relationship. Also J L Langley was able to give you more of a glimpse into
their personal lives and the life [issues:] of the pack [and pack heirarchy:].

I'm not going to change my original rating. I remember loving this story when it came out. Her wolves were fresh and creative, and at the time, shifter books had just started to become popular.

I still like this book. Lainey and Dev are sweet together. I still enjoyed their story. OTT or not, it will always have a special place in my heart.

Ok, so this is only a novella but in the short period of time I have come to :
hate the nickname “Lainey”,
rolled my eyes at the fact that the omegas are really clumsy and just want to shop,
become unsure at who is speaking or having their thoughts on the page and
realised how cliche the villain of the story is- the previous alpha. He’s just stormed out with a “I won’t forget this” after he’s tried to kiss our poor MC omega (even though the villain isn’t gay) I mean- wtf?!?

This just didn’t work for me at all!

This came out a wee while ago now, but it’s a book I’ve re read several times. The writing is fast paced, sexy and I liked the character of Laine tremendously. I was also rather partial to Devlin who was more of a buff, builder type and quite forbearing with Laine’s knack for getting into mischief.

What I enjoyed most about the book was Laine’s fearless nature and willingness to stand by his man in spite of his lack of size or ability in a fight. He had a sweetness about him as well that I got a kick out of. Devlin is confident and comfortable being in charge, but helplessly enthralled with Laine. The two discover they’re mates pretty much from the get go, so the focus was more on their developing relationship, than the will they won’t they.

The story, while short, shows how good world building makes a story just that much better. They’re werewolves, there is a pack hierarchy and there is day to day business going on in the background, but the focus is on Devlin and Laine and their growing love. I think all of the With or Without series has this delft element of blending characters lives, the everyday and supernatural. Makes for some excellent reading and is definitely a series to consider picking up.

This sweet, short and sexy story is a delight and totally fogged my glasses.

This was my first M/M book ever, back in 2011. I didn’t like it, gave it 1 star and thought that M/M just wasn’t for me. Well, we all know how wrong I was, don’t we.

description

I remembered reading this book and wanted to give it another try now that I have become such a M/M veteran.

If you are looking for over the top cheesy, you have come to the right place. This book had it all, insta love, throbbing cocks, 6 orgasms in a row, you name it.

We even get our HEA on page 18, now isn’t that great?

You’re my mate and I don’t intend on sharing you. From here on out, it’s just you and me, Laine.”

This is a very low angst shifter story with an alpha male and a clumsy young redheaded twink, who apparently can have multiple orgasms in a row, all day long.

description

It was cheesy and I liked it. Can’t give it more than 2.5 stars, because it was a pretty crappy book. But some part of me liked it anyway.

3 Meh Stars.

This is a book that has been sitting on my kindle, ignored and passed over plenty of times. So I finally decided to give it a go and get it off my kindle finally! Well I was not impressed honestly, I have read some great shifter books and this little story just couldn’t measure up for me. But, in it’s defense it was written in 2007, maybe all the other shifter books I have read just followed this one.

Devlin comes to Asheville, looking for office space for his and his best friends construction co. What he runs into is the Alpha shifter he is to meet about to beat-up and rape the pack’s Omega member Laine. Of course it’s Devlin to the rescue and then it’s a case of insta-love and mine mine mine. Now, I don’t mind insta-love, “meant to be mates” in my shifter reads at times, but this one just didn’t convince me. Laine is a ok enough character, sweet, clumsy and adorable, just not enough character or depth to find a spot in my heart.

I will be reading the next book in this series to give it a fair shot, but not right away. Overall, an enjoyable enough read not to make me mad for reading it.

This was a really quick little read.

Dev, an alpha shifter, is looking for a place to move his business to. He is visiting and meeting the local alpha when he comes across him terrorising the pack's omega.

Laine is the omega. He is a bit of a klutz, and giggles and dances around trying to make people happy.

Instantly Dev knows he has found his mate. This is the story of how Dev will take care of his mate and what he will do to protect him.

The secondary characters were a mix of personalities, and there was a fair bit of humour to the story. I wish it would have been a longer story, but I did enjoy what there was.

I have read that the other books in this series are much more popular, and I am looking forward to reading them.

I didn't really care for this book. I was unable to connect with any of the characters nor did I feel that there was any emotional connection between Laine and Dev. They met and realized instantly that they were mates. It's hard for me to put in words what exactly the problem was. I guess the best I can chalk it up to is the lack of emotion overall. I just didn't care about what was happening. This was my first Langley book, but it won't be my last. I've been told that the series gets better, so I'll read the next one.

Re-read 4/16/17: I still love this story and this couple. Lainey with his klutzy way and Dev with his tendencies to comfort and to protect. Would love to read more about this couple and their friends, Cole and Caroline.

Re-read 5/6/18: I cannot read this book without smiling. Though short, and devoid of much world-building, the joy that the newfound mates have for each other is just overwhelming. I just love how much they care for each other.

Ratuje go przed gwałtem, zabiera do hotelu.

Okay - this book was cute but it was not great. It was barely good. Sure, Devlin was hot, but I found Laine to be annoying as all hell. Seriously? He twirls around and giggles. TWIRLS. AND. GIGGLES. And Devlin just finds all that adorable which made me insane also. I like my M/M books to have two hot masculine men. Especially if they're werewolves. Werewolves are supposed to be badass. If Devlin and Cole were gay werewolves I would've been much more into that. The fact that the Alpha, the big bad nemesis of the story, was absolutely no challenge for Devlin at all was weak at best. They should've had a real badass for Devlin to show that he could handle any threat. And the fight at the end? It was over before it began. This book was only about 80 pages long, but in those pages I would've done more fighting and less twirling. And much less giggling.

I did like Cole and his mate, Caroline. I liked that Caroline and Laine became friends but they were like the same person. They both had red hair, they were both bad drivers, and they were both ridiculously clumsy. Were they separated at birth? I couldn't get into this romance because I did not like Laine. I'm surprised that this series was so highly recommended. So much so that I bought the whole series. If I hadn't already bought the other books, I would stop reading. Hopefully my review on the next book will be better.

This short werewolf story, first in Langley's "With or Without" series, was incredibly cute. Yes, it was basically a gay PWP - though there was some plot with Dev taking over the Asheville pack as the new Alpha - but I didn't mind this time. Why? The book made me namely smile. I mean it. It's such a cute feel-good story and Lainey with his clumsiness and penchant for getting himself into trouble was simply endearing. And the sex was hot, of course ;)

This is a cute, short and light read. It's about werewolves who immediately know their mate. This was the case for Dev and Laine and they were really sweet together. Laine is quite the klutz and while it was funny to read about all his "accidents", it went alittle over the top.

I enjoyed all the friends and family coming together and getting along so well. I think I would've enjoyed it even more if it was longer and more in depth.

2 stars. An easy read, but I don't care much for simpering and giggling in anyone of any sex so Lainey gave me the *groans* Was an easy read, and I'll read the others in the series as sometimes this kind of easy love/sex/HEA is what the doctor ordered.

With Love is a book set in a small, picturesque, out-of-the way town. Every small town has its secrets, more so as the years roll by, and this one is no different. Holding out for a hero in every sense of the word, the members of this community will welcome Dev with open arms when fate puts him in just the right place at the most opportune of times.

The first sign of Laine brings with it desperation, along with the knowledge he is the pack's Omega. Clumsy, forgetful, consumed with beauty in all forms, Laine is a cheeky, kooky ball of love just waiting for the right man to fall in his path for him to trip over, literally. A loveable character, Laine connects everyone within the story and keeps the dialogue light-hearted while still showing true depth and real emotions.

Dev's composure in the face of initial adversity within his potential new pack is more than a little sexy, and the impressions the dialogue allowed my imagination to create only strengthened this feeling. Ironic humour is the next emotion I was left with as Dev discovers that not only is the man he just saved the pack Omega; Laine also happens to be his mate, the town's florist and wouldn't you know it, it's Valentine's Day. As plots develop and Dev comes to realise the secrets sitting behind the façade of this small town, he'll reveal his true dominant nature and step up when Laine needs him most.

This novella is the first in the With or Without series. With Love is written in a contemporary, first-person style. I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys shifter stories with drama. Nx

Eh, not my favorite from J.L. Langley's werewolf-themed "With or Without" series. As is the case with far too many novellas, this just wasn't developed enough to be a satisfying story for me.

The main characters, Lainey and Dev, pretty much meet and fall in love immediately (they know they are mates, and it just magically works like that) -- no conflict, no issues, no getting to know each other, no character development or change involved at all. Just poof! Instant relationship with lots of sex. Yawn.

Another potential source of conflict that was woefully underdeveloped in this novella involved the mean old pack alpha, Victor. Unfortunately, his name is about the scariest thing about him. You see, Victor is a bully, and he wants Lainey for himself, I suppose, so he goes around "terrorizing" him by breaking his flowers and making threats and whatnot. All in all, this supposed "bad guy" is pretty pathetic, and not really all that scary. Same goes for the final "confrontation" between Dev and that meanie. It's just not all that dramatic or scary or anything.

Bottom Line: Not my favorite from J.L. Langley, but it is short and easy to read. Fans of her "With or Without" series would probably like it, but I think the other books are better and I'm glad I read them first. (You definitely don't need to read this one before the others.)

This is one of those cases where I don't mind the insta-love as it's clearly a shifter thing. Lainey is of course the adorable omega wolf that stumbles all over himself and yet you can do anything but love him. He's so gung ho energy and wouldn't hurt a fly. All the little silly things that he ends up doing just endear him to you more. Of course Mr. Big Bad Alpha wants to own him.

Enter Devlin, trying to be a good wolf and join the existing pack, but he can't just stand by and watch a weaker wolf get hurt. So of course he's going to step in, and of course he's going to be mated to Lainey. Who wouldn't find all that bumbling adorable even if you weren't destined to be together. Hehehe.

This story is one of those, easy to figure out where it's going, but its so sweet you enjoy the ride. Lainey and Caroline are hysterical together and you just know they're going to get into trouble for the rest of their lives as a duo. I mean heck Lainey gets tangled in phone cords and can't get out. ;)

This whole story just makes me smile. It's simple and enjoyable and as always I love Ms. Langley's voice as a writer. Overall 4.5 stars or gooey sweetness with a hint of spice.
