PHATT Farm, Smoke, Inc.

Rate this book
FBI Agent Mackenzie Sierra Scott’s dream vacation isn’t spending time at an off-the-grid weight loss center. But it will do. Two bullets slamming into her Kevlar vest-covered chest have given her an up-close and personal glimpse of her own mortality. Until her would-be killer is caught, she's hiding. Staying at PHATT Farm sounds like a bad joke to Mack. On the other hand, since she’s more a cream-cheese crescent, sprawl-in-a-chair-with-a-book kind of girl, no one who knows her, will look for her there. After Mack arrives and meets the owner’s son, she enthusiastically considers ways of spending time with Eazy. When he offers her farm labor as an alternative to group exercise, she accepts, picturing hours of romance under a summer sky. Hah! As it turns out, hot body aside, there's nothing easy about Eazy. Instead of becoming her lover, he turns Mack into a farmhand, keeping her busy driving the tractor, stacking hay, picking apples, shucking corn, and somewhere along the way, falling in love. And that all happens before the shooting starts.

PHATT Farm is the third in Gem Sivad's loosely interconnected series, Smoke, Inc., a team of crime and/or fire fighters. In this installment, Mackenzie Sierra's an FBI agent whose careful financial tracking has uncovered some serious wrongdoing and put her in the sights of a killer. After being struck point-blank at her local coffee shop (thank goodness for Kevlar!), she's won an all-expense paid retreat to a remote weight-loss center, cleverly named PHATT Farm, as a play on the owner's last name.

Eazy Phatt can't believe his mother's latest hare-brained scheme. She's turned the farmhouse into a country spa center, charging live-in guests for healthy meals (aka rabbit food) and to learn how to integrate daily exercise as a weight-loss technique (aka manual labor as a substitute for the gym). He's got to focus on the farm, and try not to be distracted by one of this session's lovely guests, Kenzie.

Kenzie (or rather, Mack, as she's known to her friends and family) finds Eazy rather easy on the eyes, but instead of being able to distract him with some mutually pleasing physical activity, she and the other registrants are busy with household and farm chores. Mucking stalls might burn calories, but sexy it is not...

Gem Sivad's storytelling is entertaining and her characters are funny and down to earth. The plot moves along at a good clip, and is well paced. I think Ms Sivad does a good job balancing body-consciousness and handles that aspect of the story well.

Looking forward to catching up with the rest of the series!

I'm a little confused on this book.
This was an okay book for me, it just felt a bit disjointed and seemed to miss some information that could've made for a smoother read for the reader.
I feel like there was more to the story that I missed from not knowing previous characters, but I'm not even sure if that's right or not.

For instance...
Why does Kenzie need a guard dog? She was under the impression of being safe before the shooting, so why the guard dog?
How did she come to the conclusion that Eazy was working for her relatives and there to protect her?
Why was Eazy so against his mom's nutrition camp that she had going on? Did he know she had ulterior motives?
How exactly did they go from Kenzie not believing he was into her to loving each other? There was no building of a relationship between them. Perhaps the author should've included parts from Eazy point of view so we could understand where the feelings developed. Because from where I'm sitting, I'm thinking he's just trying to get with her because he's determined to find a wife (info once again given by the synopsis, but not something we get to read about.)

PHATT FARM is a fast-paced, engaging read that is full of giggles and chemistry. Coming in at just over an hour's read time, it's perfect for a quick afternoon or bedtime tale.

Eazy is a sexy, ex-military man working on the family farm while he figures out his life and Mack is there hiding out from danger in her real life. There is instant attraction from their very first meeting, but Eazy does come off as a bit hot and cold at times. Mack and Eazy do fall in love quite fast, which wouldn't have bothered me if it weren't for Eazy's gruff attitude one minute and flirtations the next. There is reason for this, but I felt like we got more of that information from the blurb than in the story, although there is a twist toward the end that gives us even more insight into Eazy's actions. We also get some suspense stemming from Mack's job as a forensic accountant, but it's more of a side story once she gets to the farm.

Overall, the story is an entertaining read, loosely related to the author's Smoke, Inc world, which I've really enjoyed. I would've preferred a bit more development on the romance, but we still get some interesting characters and fun banter in an easy to read story.

This is a cute fast paced romance. A little light on romance though and it happened fast for the couple and we didnt get to experience much of it. As I read the book I kept forgetting Mack was FBI even though she was an accountant. She just doesnt really fit as an agent. She's hard to take serious and she used humor a lot. I liked Eazy instantly. He was cute and sweet and very kind. He had a job to do though so keeping his hands off Mack wasn't easy. Which is why the hot and cold. I think this could have used a little more development in all areas. Its okay for a novella which I think its more novella than a novel it wasnt very long. This is a series and although I read as a stand-alone I think it would benefit reading the books up to this point before reading this book. I could be wrong.

Mack works as an account forensics analysis. She is out for a run and is wearing her Kevlar best to help her sweat off a couple pounds. Good thing she has it on when she is shot twice point blank.
Now she is heading to a six week retreat to hide out. She meets the owners son, Eazy. She is very attracted but he keeps putting her off.
Danger shows up. Can they make it out alive so she can see if they are compatible?

Mack is an investigative accountant for the FBI and she is shot so she can't testify. She goes to a weight loss program and phew what a fun experience it sounds like lol. Eazy is ex military and his mother is the owner of phatt farm weight loss program he doesn't see it working out. When they see each other for the first time sparks are in the air or definitely lust. There I'd action adventure great characters and mystery in this book.love the series so far.

This was a very enjoyable read, Mack is out for a run wearing her kevlar vest and is shot. She goes to a camp and meets the owner's son, Eazy. So, she's got a hot guy, her guard dog and some spare time to heal. What's a girl to do? But, it wouldn't be complete with a little but of drama!!!

A fun and sweet story

Mack was her nickname and she was something else. Eazy was one sexy man that wanted a wife. PHATT FARM was supposed to be and weight loss faculty. But Mack wanted something totally different. This was a fun and sweet book.

A short and sweet, to the point, fast paced story. Since it is short I won’t say too much about it. There is danger, suspense and romance along with some drama. Well written with great characters that will make you laugh. I loved the humor, the plot and the touching romance.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved Phatt Farm, Mackenzie Scott’s is a Forensic Accountant for the FBI, and finds evidence that gets her an assassin sent after her. But 2 bullets in her Kevlar vest later, Mac is going into hiding. She's expecting a spa but ends up at the Phatt Farm. The only good thing is meeting Eazy , the owner's hot, sexy, good-looking, did I say HOT. Unknown to Mac (going by Kenzie) Eazy is suppose to be guarding her. But!!!!!! It's time for you to find what I was excited about while was reading this wonderful book. OMG OMG OMG I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!

I really enjoyed reading Phatt Farm. The book was told from Kenzie's POV. There was lots of humor through out the entire book. There was also just the right amount of romance in it. If you've not read any other books in this series its a must. This book can be read in order or as a stand alone.

Mack is a heroine I could relate too, and root for!

This book was so funny. The author certainly knows how to infuse humor. Her characters are outstanding. They're like real people and you'll recognize as you read. The story --even though it's short--if full of twists and turns.

And there's a dog. A big, protective dog that recognizes that Mr Right is on the scene as soon as it meets him.

It all wraps up with a delightful HEA. ~sigh~

All in all, a really fun, feel-good read.
