About the author

Considered by many to be the greatest Puerto Rican playwright of modern times.

Born and raised in the city of Humacao, Puerto Rico. He enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico in 1955, earning a Bachelors of Arts degree. In 1959 he earned a Masters Degree in dramatic arts in City University of New York. He eventually went to Spain and earned his Doctorate in Literature in 1975, from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Sánchez's best known play is La Pasión según Antigona Pérez (The Passion of Antigona Perez), a tragedy set in present-day Latin America, suggested by Sophocles' Antigone.

Una familia que navega la locura. Una familia que desata la excentricidad de ser el centro de atención. Ver más allá el contexto social* muchos individuos que buscan afuera lo que ya tienen adentro. Detrás de la negación y el deterioro... una comedia que representa muy bien una sociedad puertorriqueña que permite que el amo le haya escrito el libreto por tanto tiempo. Cuando toca improvisar, decide escapar a otro circo y/o atenuar su desgracia con los vicios.

Pretty funny overall, its characters are unique and the ending is pretty good. A nice short read that shows character to the Puerto Rican literature.
