Siobhán Maguire is a young Irish indentured servant for a wealthy British family, the Schelldens, during the 1830's. Siobhán suffers internally as she grieves the loss of her family in Ireland and is forced into a life of servant-hood from a young age. The Schelldens move to Northern Georgia during the time of a gold rush and Siobhán happens to meets a young Cherokee boy, Atohi. Atohi helps Siobhán grieve the loss of her beloved family and help remind her of the traditions she grew up with. The friendship that Atohi and Siobhán foster helps Siobhán heal from her past. While their relationship grows, Atohi's tribe is subjected to the Indian Removal Act and is forced off of their land.
