STANDALONE ROCK STAR SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE From New York Times Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, comes a new book that will introduce you to rock stars with heart and soul as well as revisit with some favorites from The Resistance. One break is all The Crow Brothers need and we’re about to get it. Johnny Outlaw, rock legend and lead singer of The Resistance, is here to watch us play. But he’s not the only familiar face in the crowd—killer little body, heart-shaped face, and drop-dead gorgeous. Hannah Nichols sitting at the bar makes it hard to concentrate, sparks already reigniting. The beauty was never a groupie and tonight she’s not here to catch our show. She came to drop a bomb. “You have a son.” She underestimated me. I’ll prove to my son, and her, that I can be the dad he needs. What is it about musicians? Why are they so damn sexy? My heart was Jet Crow’s the moment he opened his sexy mouth and sang that first song. One stolen night with that man would never be enough, but I’m not here to fall into his bed. Again. I’m here to fight for custody of a son he’s never known. There’s just one problem. Those sparks between us have become flames. If we’re not careful we’re both going to get burned.

Well

It took me a bit to finish this one! I just couldn’t get into it! I’m not sure what it was, but I had an extremely hard time connecting with the characters!

If I'm being honest here, I don't usually go for these types of books. Well, actually I'm all over the rock star ones. I love rock music and a hot rocker story is totally my jam. This one though has the element I usually avoid. Kids. I got them. I love them. But when I'm reading I want to escape into a world I don't live in. Understanding right? I thought so.

"If I can't bring down your walls, I'll climb them."

What S.L. Scott has created here was those two things combined and it worked for me. This feel good story has so many elements that I couldn't help but fall in love with it. With all of the tension, the lust and the lies. There wasn't a chance I wouldn't devour this book and I did, in one sitting and it checked every box for me. She writes with so much depth and emotion that made some parts heavy and others I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face.

"There's no being careful when it comes to love. You're either willing to fall in the moment or the opportunity passes you by."

There is so much stacked against their deck that you would think the easiest thing would be to just walk away. The family drama and toxic environment and the internal battles was just what they had to go through and they knew what we didn't. That the fight would be worth it for the reward that they knew was at the end. Hannah and Jet had chemistry in spades and you felt it sparking off of the pages.

I've always enjoyed her books and I can not wait to see if there will be more from this band. I put this book down with a smile on my face. The overwhelming under current of hope was the best thing about this book and it was completely captivating. You really need to pick this up and read it today.

This is another one of those books that I find hard to rate. I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it, so I’m kind of stuck trying to figure this out.

Hannah and Jet had a passionate ONS one hot summer night, only for Hannah to leave the next morning, refusing to exchange numbers with Jet so they can keep in touch. Jet’s upset because the first girl he’s felt anything for in a long time doesn’t seem to feel the same way, but time moves on. Six months later, Hannah shows up at one of Jet’s gigs telling him he has a son. No, she’s not pregnant, he has a six year old son, Alfie, from his brief relationship with Hannah’s cousin who has since died. All Hannah wants is to have Jet give up his rights as parent so she can raise Alfie, but Jet refuses, insisting he’s the father and entitled to raise his own child.

What I liked: Jet chased Hannah without overdoing it. He was sweet and a great dad to Alfie.
Hannah was initially a doormat, but by the end, she grew a backbone.
Alfie was adorable, if a little well-spoken for a six year old.

What I didn’t like: There was a lot of unresolved drama that didn’t seem to contribute to the story, and some seemingly important parts seemed rushed.
Every woman had a lady-boner for Jet, and it got old, fast.
The focus on the romance was too light for me.
Some continuity errors pulled me out of the story, for example:
Aunt: Where were you the past few nights? I called around looking for you, and no one knew.”
Hannah: Who did you call?
A: Your father, your friends-
H: You don’t know any of my friends.
A: Friend, boyfriend. Whatever he is.
H: Lincoln?
A: Yeah, that loser.

Who the hell is Lincoln? That was the only instance where his name was brought up, so I’m going to just assume the author meant Hunter, Hannah’s abusive ex-boyfriend. Still, it’s an error that should’ve been easily caught.

It was a sweet story about a father getting to know his son, a family struggling to survive after the loss of a loved one, and an over-complicated romance.

"Playing her body with my tongue like my fingers play my guitar, I set her on fire, feeling the burn deep inside."

Let me rephrase this quote: Suzie plays our hearts and minds with her words, like a rock-god plays his guitar with his fingers.

*sigh* I start to think that Suzie writes the most perfect boyfriends ever! Again she delivers with Jet a rockstar you fall on your knees for. I'm still swooning.

"My name was a curse, a blessing, a sin, a saint. I became all those as she became one thing to me - my salvation."

Spark is an intense story about overcoming loss, finding a way back to yourself, falling in love and finding your happiness all in the same place. The fact that Jet and his brothers are a rockband and finally get their well deserved label contract is just the cream on top.

"We're what legends are made of, written in the stars for all time."

Hannah is smart gorgeous, strong, independent, feisty. Beautiful inside out. She came a long way enduring a childhood with a cold heartened father and aunt always thinking she was trouble and not good enough. Her last boyfriend almost broke her. But instead of letting herself break, she became stronger, even though she only realized what she became as Jet came around and showed her the way to her awesome self.

"What does forever taste like?" "It tastes like you, Hannah. Wildflower and cinnamon."

Jet is kind, generous, attentive, caring, hot as hell and the biggest heart ever. He's down to hearth and gives everything for the people he loves. He's got an extraordinary bond with his brothers and lives for the music, until Hannah and Alfie came around. He's great in finding the perfect balance between the two worlds that became his family, home and love.

"As I pay homage to the blissful perfection of this connection, I know it's just the sex. That was just the spark that kindled the flame. Together, we're a full blown blaze."

Alfie is fantastic. He's such a great kid. He's way ahead of his age while dealing with the loss of his mother and adapting to all the big changes around him. Every time he was around I couldn't help myself but smile. His positive energy sprang right out of the book into my heart.

"With him, I'm happy. With him, I am enough. With him, I am home."

With my arms secured around his neck, I ask, “Will you fall with me?”
“I’ve already fallen. I’m just waiting to catch you.”

I am SO in love with Jet Crow! That man was beautiful inside and out. So honorable, kind - a man who knows how to care for and fight for those he loves. *le sigh* He was so dreamy from the very first moment he appeared on those pages.

My name was a curse, a blessing, a sin, a saint. I became all those as she became one thing to me—my salvation.

The way he handled the situations with his band’s new mentorship/label signing; new familial responsibilities and the woman that changed his world in an instant. His dedication to his family was admirable. Being the oldest Crow brother, he’d already proven he sacrifice anything for family. The man was practically a saint in how graceful he handled it all. Gah! I want him for myself.

Give me a chance, Hannah. Give me a chance to be the glue that can hold your broken parts together when you’re not strong enough.

Hannah was an incredible heroine. Longing for the love from her own family, Alfie is her life and she learns quickly that Jet is nothing close to what she was told he’d be like. Happenstance brought them back together after an incredible night that sparked so much between them. She was strong and loving and just wants to make sure Alfie is cared for and loved...what she always wanted from her family.

I crave him.
I ache for him.

I’ll burn for him just to taste the fire.

This is one of those books where I find myself kicking my butt for not reading this author’s work before. Another instance where my addict/hoarder ways has one-clicked so many of S.L. Scott’s books but have yet to read them. Gah! Meeting The Resistance guys has me now downloading those books from my cloud to my kindle so I can get their stories.

I’m now a new, full blown fan of S.L. Scott and will never hesitate to read her books again. I already have so many to binge on and I’m getting on that right now. I can’t wait to read Tulsa and Rivers’ stories! Those Crow Bros ate so sweet, funny and oh so sexy!

Spark is not your typical rockstar romance. Right from the beginning I could tell Jet Crow was different. He was written with such a genuine heart and I loved reading about him. Hannah and Jet are perfect together and it really shows throughout the book. The love Jet has for his son right at the beginning was so heartwarming and wonderful to read. I also enjoyed the appearances by members of The Resistance. I love when series overlap. Granted they have a lot to fight through during this book. But they persevere and are stronger for it at the end. I definitely recommend this book. It’s not required to read the Hard to Resist series before but it helps to understand some of the background of the other characters. I can’t wait to read about the other two Crow brothers!

I found this book to be an enjoyable, ok read but i couldn't really connect with Jet and Hannah. I will say that this isn't just a rock star romance and the author created well rounded storyline, but I just felt like the 'Spark' for me, wasn't there.

I honestly had no idea what I was getting into with this choice of reading. I picked it as part of a reading challenge and rarely read "Rock Star" stories, but "you have a son" caught my attention..... and I'm glad it did.

This is a well written and engaging story about two people brought back together by an unexpected connection. I was enraptured with the story from page one and loved it. I will definitely be reading more of the Crow Brothers.

Audiobook Review

Overall 4.5 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 4 stars

I really enjoyed this emotional rock star romance! It was much more heartfelt and poignant than I anticipated. It really highlighted the importance of timing in life and the bonds of family (by blood or by choice). Yes, there's an instant attraction between Jet and Hannah, but both can feel that they are on the precipice of something much more incredible than one night of sex. When they meet again months later, and under much different circumstances, what gradually develops between them is more organic and natural. It only made me root for their happily ever after even harder.

I loved seeing Jet move into the role of father to Alfie. It's not a huge stretch considering his relationship with his own brothers and family history, but it was still beyond sweet. He goes all in, just as he does with Hannah, and readers/listeners everywhere are still swooning. Hannah's past has been traumatic to say the least and has really altered her sense of self. Seeing her blossom again with the help of Jet and Alfie was wonderful and this story was as much a love story between her and Jet as it was between Hannah and herself. The real scene stealer though is Alfie. He's magic every time and oh so adorable. He is wise beyond his years, but still has that childlike wonder. I loved his relationship with Tulsa and he brought a straight forward honesty to the story that only children can bring. It's his new found relationship with Jet that is the cornerstone of the book.

The narration by Sebastian York and Ava Erickson was fantastic and they were incredible together. York has the amazing ability to not only voice the strong, sexy alpha hero, but he can also perform female and children wonderfully as well. I can't think of a better narrator to bring Jet Crow to life. Erickson was equally incredible as Hannah, and she really captured all the anguish, heartache, and vulnerability of the character so well. This is my first time listening to an audiobook narrated by her, but it certainly won't be my last!

The Crow Brothers have definitely piqued my interest and I can't wait to read/listen to their stories as well. I'm especially intrigued by the middle Crow brother, River. He's much more reserved and quiet compared to Tulsa, and his tender moment with Jet at the end gives us some bread crumbs about where his story is going. I'm also interested to learn more about the honorary Crow brother, Dave. I feel like we've only scratched the surfaced on his story. I definitely enjoyed this one a lot!

I used my personal copy to read and review for Wicked Reads' BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) Month

I fell in love with Jet! He's on the verge of making it big with his band the Crow Brothers. They are really brothers and Jet has been their father figure & leader for a long time. He's raised his 3 brothers himself after his mother died and he's done well with the task. He doesn't often do one night stands but the sad girl at the bar draws his attention. Hannah is home to help with her dying cousin. She's uprooted her life to take care of her cousin' son while cancer eats away at his mother. She lets herself have one night filled with fun with the hot singer from the band, never knowing who Jet is to her cousin or her cousin's son.
It's a good twist of intermingled love and loss. Hannah was a little hard for me to like at first but she grew on me mid book and I felt for her loyalty and her longing for love & acceptance. Jet was a wonderfully written character who never gave up and always did what you hoped a good man would do for his son. I enjoyed the story and was happy with the ending. It had some good drama with ex lovers on both sides and intermingled with family strife along with a meddling mean Aunt. I felt it could have been a little shorter as it began to feel a tad monotonous but never did I want to give up on Hannah & Jet's story. I'm not sure I was drawn in enough to read the next book/next brother's story but a solid 4 star read for Jet!

I absolutely LOVED this book! Once again, S.L. Scott has hit me with the feels and I found myself wanting to fly through this book yet wanting to read it slowly so I could really lose myself in the story. There is plenty, and I mean PLENTY of chemistry between Hannah and Jet, as evidenced by the one night they were together. But that one night left a lasting impression, in all the ways! But there are reasons why Hannah went ghost after that night. I liked that Jet was ready to give up the perks of being a rock star when he met Hannah. He had his work cut out for him when it came to showing Hannah how much he wanted to be with her, given her fears about love and her family loyalty that has her hesitant on taking that step towards happiness. All in all, a fantastic series start and I'm already looking forward to the next book!

My first S.L. Scott book, and I am in love! This book has my favorite tropes all melded into one story. A second chance romance, a rock star and a single dad! What is not to love! Jet is rock star who has a one night stand with Hannah. This is a woman he cannot forget. When she contacts him months later though, she delivers a life changing message to him. These two from the start have such a pull it's impossible not to see them together. But they do have quite a few obstacles to get through. Not a typical rock star romance, this story has some meat to it, giving fatherhood and serious relationships the forefront of the story. It's well written, full of passion, and the joy of Alfie, Jet's son is impossible not to fall in love with. So many good qualities and characters are peppered throughout the book all tying into a wonderfully written book.

Sebastian York and Ava Erickson bring this story to life. The combination of the duo is perfect, their flow is similar and their inflections for the characters is flawless. It's a very entertaining listen.

Spark is the 1st novel in The Crow Brothers Rockstar Romance Series.
A Rockstar Romance with a twist. Jet Crow, Hannah Nichols, & Alfie are compelling character's with heart and soul.
Told in dual pov, with a dual narration that flows through smoothly and reveals their personalities.

A flawless performance by narrators Sebastian York and Ava Harrison. Chemistry between these two together is off the charts.
As narrators and storytellers with passion, they bring the character's to being. A light easy listen.

I enjoyed this book. Loved the narrators.

This is an interesting story. Jet Crow and his brothers are an up-and-coming band that is about to get a break. Hannah has a one night stand with Jet, and she leaves an impression on him - he can’t stop thinking about her. He sees her again, and she is harboring a secret. Can he get past the shock of what seeing her again and what it means? Will it affect the band’s big break? Can Hannah get past what has happened to her in previous relationships?

I am definitely looking forward to books about Jet’s brothers.

"Spark" by S.L Scott is book 1 in the The Crow Brothers series....

Great story line. This was well thought through and I enjoyed this book very much. Unconditional love so powerful... I love that this book has a duel P.O.V.

Some may think that this story was a little predictable but I say... so what? The story is intense and what each character has to endure to be together is what captures you. Their fight, their everything.

I can't wait to read about Tulsa next and then Rivers. I can only imagine how epic his love story will be... well done on an amazing read!

As Always, SL Scott writes stories that come from her heart, pouring all of her emotions into her stories. Emotions that make you feel everything her characters are going through. Spark is no different. This is a romantic love story about Jett and Hannah, a story packed with emotion. It’s such a strong storyline, you won’t be able to put it down. I highly recommend this book and any other book by SL Scott. You won't be disappointed, I guarantee it.

Wow - What a book! Not one word was wasting in the telling, the love scenes between Jet & Hannah are hot and beautiful and sexy, did I mention hot? Getting to see the guys in The Resistance again was a bonus. The premise has been done before but nothing like this, the scene stealing Alfie will wrap you around his finger and just knowing Jet's brother's River & Tulsa are getting their own books has me looking forward to that 1-click. Oh I hope S.L Scott has one in store for Dave too.

Once I finally got into this book it was really good. I thought it started out s!ow until we finally get into the bones of the story. I couldn't put it down after that.
It's amazing from where it all started to what we find in the end. Some parts was like reading poetry or song lyrics .....yes that good.
Really enjoyed the storyline, little angst, hot sex and reading the story as it unfolds. Can't wait or Tulsa's boo.

I'm not usually a huge fan of rockstar romances but I do enjoy S.L. Scott's writing so I was interesting in seeing how this book would play out. I'm really glad I took a chance on it because it wasn't what I was expecting. It's not just about some rocker hooking up and falling for a groupie or something, there's a lot more substance to it and to the characters. I'm definitely going to keep reading the series to see more of the Crow Brothers.

Where can I get a Jet?

Jet and Hannah story was beautifully written. I was rooting for them from the start. And then add Alfie to the mix, this story had so much heart, love, loss, laugh and so much more. I absolutely fell in love with this story and wait to continue with this series. ❤❤❤

Who doesn't love a good rocker who falls in love with a good woman, realizing her qualities are far superior to the hoards of groupies who will fling themselves at you because of your position: a star rocker in a popular band. However, when Johnny Outlaw spots Hannah Nichols in a bar, he can't help but to notice her. What he finds out when he speaks with her is the last thing he might've thought of: he has a 6 year old son named Alfie.

Just so happens that a So she gave him the shocking message and the question was would he stand up to the plate?

Turns out that he is a good/one of the best dads ever. He didn't have what he wanted in his father as a child, so giving Alfie what he never had was extremely important to him. I love stories like this one where a father not only steps up to the plate, but he truly loves being a father.

This book gave me lots of good feels.

This book was….. dull. I probably only finished because the audiobook narrators are good performers. I didn’t hate it, I didn’t love it, and no one annoyed me (although, I wasn’t paying very close attention- meaning I skipped like entire chapters-so who knows if I would’ve been annoyed😂). I felt like the romance wasn’t developed- it was instalust from a one night stand and somehow they end up married. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I want to listen to the next two books because they’re narrated by my two favorite male narrators, so here’s hoping those are stories that keep my attention better.
