This book is a nice coverage to the basic starts in developing personal clout and speeches. I enjoyed how the author breaks things down in the beginning. However, as a communicator farther along in my career path, I found the later chapters to be way more relevant whereas the earlier chapters offered more of a basic understanding. If one hasn’t started on giving speeches already, this book would be recommended as an easy read. I would expect that the author would have included more exercises for later chapters like in the beginning, but there weren’t much. The last chapter I noticed seemed a bit rushed as if adding the some key ingredients at the end. The book has many examples but In my opinion, this books seems to cast a lot of male speakers to identify as good speakers such as bill clinton, the danish minister and Barack Obama, etc. It could find more diverse examples.
I specifically benefited from chapter 4 & 5 & 6 about casting myself, tools to understand your audience, and how to address them and some basic story telling foundations. Overall it is a light easy read and good to cover the basics again. I would recommend this book to those who are in the beginning of their speech career and clout journey. Advance speakers would benefit the last few chapters.
