Angel Nyx is an author of paranormal, and contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and post-apocalyptic romance with some why choose thrown into the mix. Her vivid imagination helps her get in tune with her characters to bring them to life for her readers. She is also a mom, a reader, and an avid gamer chick. When she's writing, reading, or gaming, she is usually relaxing to music, spending time with family, or finding new authors to fall in love with. She has a long time love affair with the city of New Orleans and plans to make it a regular vacation destination in coming years.
Midnight Orchids is the third book in Angel Nyx’s NOLA Shifters series, but it works perfectly fine as a standalone novel. I read it as a standalone novel and now plan to go back to read the prior books – not because of a lack of knowledge, but because I’m addicted. I need more of this series, and I need it now.
There was a time where I would not read romance, but after a few urban fantasy novels sucked me in with romantic subplots I decided to give romance a go. Shifter stories where what originally attracted me to romance, and from there my interest grew. Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of contemporary romance; however, I was starting to miss the paranormal romance. Thus, Midnight Orchids was a perfect read to remind me of why I enjoy paranormal romance so much.
In truth, the paranormal element of this book is rather tame compared to the paranormal element in some books. We are sucked into the shifter world, we are aware of the paranormal, but we do not spend much time dealing with the characters in shifter form. I’m more accustomed to stories where a lot of time is spent focusing upon the characters in their other form, so it was a nice change to have it take a bit of a backseat. It was certainly still an important element – there were details in this story that were vital to the shifter storyline – but it is a somewhat lighter paranormal read than you may find elsewhere. Therefore, this is perfect for people who enjoy the paranormal romance genre and for those who are new to it.
The story itself was absolutely wonderful. As soon as I started reading, I found I could not put the book down. I’m no stranger to reading books in a single sitting, it’s one of the reasons why I tend to read a book a day, but this one sucked me in deeper than I expected – I imagine, were I not the kind to read a book in a single sitting this one would have forced me to do so. It pulls you in from the very first page, making the book impossible to put down. You want to know what happens next in the story, you want more of the characters, and you’re lost to the world.
I could say so much about the storyline, but I don’t want to give any spoilers. Just know it deals with sensitive topics, and it’s done extremely well. We get a lot of heavy detail without the book being overly graphic, which I’m sure will appeal to many people. What will appeal even more, though, is the development of the characters throughout. Both characters were wonderful, I enjoyed them from the very start, but watching the way they developed – and the way the relationship developed – was wonderful. I adored their story, and I adored them. I loved the side characters too, and cannot wait to get more of them.
The one element I wasn’t one hundred percent won over by was the additional points of view we were sometimes given in this story. I enjoyed following our two main characters, and it was interesting to be given a couple of points of views from other people, but I feel as though I would have been happier had we just stuck to our two main characters. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, I just prefer it when romance books stick to the two main characters.
Without a doubt, though, I’ll be reading more of the NOLA Shifters series. I already have Wild Lilies, Scarlet Roses, and the prequel loaded up on my Kindle ready for me to read. It’s looking to be a wonderful series, and I cannot wait to see what comes next!
Angel Nyx has created characters you care about. Who doesn't love werewolves and the bayou? I'm loving this series and I can't wait to read the next book.
This book is my favourite so far of the NOLA Shifter Series. This is Remy and Kylie’s story and what a story it is.Remy had at this point almost decided to petition another pard to get permission to meet their unmated females in the hopes of finding his mate. Watching other members of his pard have mates and finding mates left Remy feeling like he needed to take this drastic step in the hopes of finding happiness. Unexpectedly he meets a Kylie and everything changes. Kylie is running away from an abusive relationship and all she wants is to be left alone to live her life. Of course this is not something that Remy is willing to go along with, Kylie is his mate and he is determined to hold onto her. When Remy finds out Kylie’s secret he is determined to make sure she is kept safe from the man hunting her down. Remy’s protective streak is a mile wide and the fierce and dangerous side is bought to the forefront when Kylieis threatened. I just love Remy he is my favourite so far in this series, the way he is with Kylie and how he treats her is just so beautiful. The respect he shows her and the support he gives her is just heartwarming. Angel Nyx once again pulls you into the world of the Nola Shifters where you feel right at home and find yourself wishing you could find your own Remy. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves this genre you will not be disappointed
Oh my word, this book! Sigh … so much depth, so much heartbreak, such beautiful dawn-after-the-storm happiness! Kylie has really had a tough go of it, and as hard as it was to escape the abusive situation, she was just as determined not to ever find herself in that situation again. To say she was guarded was an understatement!
So it’s a very good thing that Remy is a patient man, and that he knows – instantly, instinctively, without a doubt – that Kylie is his mate. He’s everything a hero should be, and he’s absolutely perfect for Kylie.
This book pulls out all the stops, has all the feels, and will have you alternating between fanning yourself and reaching for the tissues. We get to see some familiar faces from the previous books, one of the best perks of reading interconnected standalones, and here they act as a solid foundation for the blossoming romance. I loved how the epilogue took us all the way to a solid HEA – it was a perfect way to end a perfect love story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I enjoyed Midnight Orchids more than the first two books in the series.
I loved Remy, even though I had a bit of a hard time understanding what he was saying. I don’t know how to do a Cajun accent so I had to translate everything he said into basic English. Everything was written as it would be pronounced with the accent. It was a little more work than I like when I’m reading.
Kylie I didn’t love, but I didn’t hate her either. But she does take you on a bit of an emotional ride.
This is the third book in this really amazing series and is Kylie and Remys story. Poor Kylie had been through so much that she has a real hard time trusting men again. Remy knows shes his and will do evwrything in his power to knock down her walls and be as patient as she needs him to be. He is just so percect for her. My heart broke for her at times but absolutely loved this.
I loved the way Remy proved his support for Kylie throughout this story. Kylie was finally strong enough to get herself out of an abusive relationship, but can she accept Remy as he is? Wonderful emotion filled chapters and a great ending. This book is a great addition to the series. I look forward to reading the next story. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Another hot Cajun shifter hottie. Remy is just the true mate that Kylie needs. After suffering physical and sexual abuse by a former boyfriend Kylie takes off to New Orleans to start a new life and Remy is the one who breaks down her walls to show her what love really is.
I felt a personal connection with this book. I cried just about the whole time i was reading it. I couldn't stop reading. I have first hand experience with abuse. Kylie is a strong woman to get out. Remy is a good man who had the patience of a saint. Can't wait for the rest of the series.
i got a free copy after 5 years of abuse she ran away and tried to get as far away as possible. she thought she would be safe. he was looking for a mate and when he saw her he knew she would be his. her past would catch up with her. can he save her? can they make it? see where this will take you
Angel has done it agian! I think this is my favourite so far. Midnight Orchids takes you on a emotional journey. Kylie is so strong but she also has a vulnerability to her. Remy is sweet and thoughtful. I just loved them together. This book will definitely give you all the feels!
Another great book in this series. Can't wait for more. So many characters introduced that will have to have their own stories. Can she overcome the abuse from her ex? Can he convince her that all men are not the same?
