The only force stronger than their hate is their love. Vengeance hates all humans. They killed every being he ever cared about. When the huge C Model cyborg is told he’s genetically compatible with the enemy, he makes it his mission to capture the female and use her to expel all humans from his home planet. That should be disappointingly easy. She’s a weak, fragile human. Then she blows up his ship, blasting to bits his preconceived notions about the enemy. Astrid, aka the Buoir Berserker, hates all cyborgs. They killed her entire clan, including her baby sister. The warrior female has vowed to hunt down and destroy the enemy. When a savage cyborg arrogantly puts his hard, sexy body within her reach, she does the only thing a female can do—she peppers his muscular physique with projectiles. The more passionately they fight, the stronger their attraction becomes. Neither of them will relent on their missions, yet they can’t keep their hands off each other. Their battle will either end in love to last an eternity or in death. Taking Vengeance is Book 12 in the Cyborg Sizzle series and is a STAND-ALONE story. It is also an enemies-to-lovers Cyborg SciFi Romance set in a dark, gritty, often violent universe.
USA Today bestselling author Cynthia Sax writes steamy cyborg and alien romances. Her stories have been featured in Star Magazine, on TV, and numerous romance top ten lists.
When she isn't writing, she's traveling the world with her Dear Wonderful Hubby, meeting new people, visiting new places.
I've been jumping around in this series over the last year and so far, no duds! This was a bit of a risk because I knew from previous books that Vengeance was a bit of an alpha-hole. Thankfully, he was paired with Astrid who took head chick in charge to the next level. Seriously, she was great. Tough, honest, funny, loving and to top it all a fantastic warrior.
Vengeance starts out hating humans, finds himself paired with a woman who hates cyborgs. They both have good reason but that doesn't stop them from falling into insta lust. They both have a hard time giving up their long held beliefs and their relationship takes a while to get on the tracks because of it. Nothing too annoying for me but if you don't want to read about a couple who have serious love/ hate going on for the first half of the book, skip this one.
They fall hard for one another but are both reluctant to say so. Vengeance starts out planning to break their bond (it was a valid idea to test it but he just wanted to be rid of the humans, lol) and he suffers later because of his early pig headedness. This is where getting both POVs helped tremendously. We are in his head and know that he plans to keep her no matter what before they ever leave her planet. He is crazy about her/ never been in love before her. It's always fun to see the biggest bad brought down by the right woman.
Same for Astrid. She gives as little as he does at first, so knowing that she is crazy about him (and often a step ahead) helped.
My only gripes: -The sex scenes are super raunchy in this one. It made sense and things get less penthouse letter when they are more emotionally involved but the first few are rough. -He is ALWAYS erect and she drips. Combat turns them on and they are both warriors... -I felt like we spent too much time with Power and Death (both cyborgs) -I want Truths book now!
HoIy hell I don’t know how Cynthia sax does it but her novels keep getting better and better, I think that this latest installment might actually be my favorite so far. I just love a strong female lead and Astrid Reinheld went above and beyond my expectations. A fierce woman who could hold her own against any male that came her way and had no problem playing with the big boys. She was a force to be reckoned with, a woman who was proud of who she is and was comfortable in her own skin. She had a courageous heart and fighting spirit, a character who reminded me very much of Lagatha the shield maiden from the series Vikings which I am hooked on. She was a kick-ass heroine who in the scene where she first meets Vengeance gives him a run for his money, making him eat his words about weak human females and me unable to stop reading. She sure showed him a thing or two about preconceived notions, she took no shit from him what so ever and was not afraid to let him know exactly how she felt or if he hurt her in anyway. And the way in which she let him know always involved him getting some payback from her in the form of her shooting him with some kind of weapon. The chemistry between them was undeniable their passion palpable, when they came together it was wild and untamed, savage in its intensity and their first sex scene in the river was soooo hot and animalistic I nearly went up in flames. Though I was very surprised that Astrid didn’t kick his ass after what he did to her when they were done. My original impression of Vengeance was that he was an arrogant, hateful cyborg with a superiority complex. He was extremely unlikeable and it was nice seeing Astrid taking him down a peg and making him see the error of his ways. I have to admit by the end of this story my opinion of him has vastly changed. Gone is the old human hating cyborg and in his place we have a caring, compassionate, loving, possessive and passionate Vengeance. Seeing him change and become so enamored, possessive and jelaous towards Astrid was a delight to read. I just ate up his transformation and how she made him work to win back her love after he had hurt her with his stubborn stupid theories which he refused to abandon due to his pride. I even felt a little sympathy for him when he thought he’d ruined things between them and during the mock-battle Astrid took part in the reaction he had when she was mock-hurt was heart warming and I felt bad for the poor guy. This was an awesome read with strong warriors for leading characters and full of nonstop action, intense passion, misunderstandings and angst. And I hope that just maybe we hear more about this couple in the future as I’d love to read about Astrid having his offspring. I bet she would be participating in the mock-battles all through her pregnancy as she’s Astrid Reignheld the Buoir Berserker Vengeance’s Warrior female!
Vengeance is one angry cyborg! He will never forget or forgive what the humans did to his kind, he can’t fathom why some of his brethren chose to mate with human females. If he had the choice, he would kill all those detested humans. Vengeance has been maintaining that it is possible to break the bonds that are formed between genetically compatible human females and cyborgs, and he is summoned to bring back that female to the Homeland. Astrid Ragnhild, the buoir Berserker, is the last of her clan on her planet, Second Buoir. She detests the cyborgs and she has vowed to rid the universe of the murderous barbarians. And when she spots the enemy approaching her planet, she is ready: it’s kill or be killed.
Cynthia Sax is a brilliant writer who never ceases to amaze me. Vengeance’s angry thoughts are so incredibly well written that I was laughing at his indignation and fury. His spoken dialogue was just as impressive: I just loved his grumpiness and to make a grump amusing, without any artifices, is truly the mark of a great writer. Astrid, oh Astrid! There are no words to say how much her physical description thrilled me! So far from your typical heroine, so real, so fierce, so admirable in every way! Ms. Sax’s heroines are always fabulous, but Astrid is unique! From the moment she was introduced, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen when she and Vengeance met each other, and it was even more explosive than anything I could ever have imagined!
Surprisingly, TAKING VENGEANCE is the twelfth book in the Sizzling Cyborgs series and it can easily be read as a standalone. The unique terminology used in this series – as well as The Refuge – always impresses me, I mean “friggin’ hole”, wouldn’t you be as well, when a being is a cyborg’s “pain in his processors”! How perfectly delightful! TAKING VENGEANCE is possibly the most unusual romance I have ever read, and in some ways the best because Astrid’s scars are not merely tolerated, or accepted, or “looked at with reverence” (I hate those words in romance novels, it always feels so condescending), but the cyborgs really admire her scars, because it means she’s a warrior like them; she is a being to be respected, to be desired and loved because of a fierceness, a courage that matches the males’. What a wonderful world it is where females are loved because they are equal, even superior to their males. Although humans are too slow to kill cyborgs. Maybe…
Vengeance hates all humans. It doesn’t matter that that the female humans are becoming mates to some of the models. They are all evil. They are no better than the Humanoid Alliance. They all have their place, DEAD. Astrid saw her people and family killed by the cyborgs. They are evil and have no place with humans. She and Vengeance are fighting the same battles without knowing it yet. Their hate for the other is what will bring them together.
I’m actually glad Vengeance found his equal. Astrid can kick ass like a few of the other female’s and that is so great. Always have to have strong women to put up with these stubborn cyborgs. LOL These two are funny. They fight but then will put aside their differences to go at it. Vengeance and his inability to see that he is so crazy for her, he can’t even think straight. They are both dominate but at times you see the D/s aspect with them. And the sex with the cyborgs is always HOT. The fact that Vengeance keeps saying that he has to prove that the bond with a human female is only temporary just kills me. What about Rage, Crash, Death, Mayhem, Ghost and all the other cyborgs that are so devoted to their female. Rage is the one that he should really look at. Joan was almost dead when he saved her. THAT is devotion and love beyond anything else. Vengeance is headed in that direction and Astrid pushing and clawing at him is just going to prove it.
Now we need to find a female for Truth, Power and all the other brethren.
I love these cyborgs. And the C models are my absolute favorites. There's just something about those big primitive guys that just turns my crank.
Vengeance is a C model cyborg and on the council. He wants to get rid of any humans who live on the cyborg homeworld because he knows that they are up to something. They make their mates weak. Surely any cyborg can just avoid falling in love, even with the one genetically compatible fated mate out there. So he sets out to find his mate and prove it to everyone.
Astrid is also known as the Buoir Berserker. She is the only person left living on Buoir after the cyborgs killed everyone. She joined with the rebels to get her own back, and she's killed a bunch of cyborgs in revenge. She's tough and strong, think space Viking, and you might have the right idea.
Vengeance is a bit of a jerk for a lot of the book. He can't get past his own pre-conceived notions and it hampers him. Astrid though, isn't afraid to fight dirty to get what she wants, and she does. She's devious. I like that in my heroines. I think she might be in my top 2 favorite Cynthia Sax heroines.
I love Astrid and Vengeance! What an awesome opening scene! We are taken immediately into the reasons for Vengeance’s deep hatred for humans. It’s not at all surprising! Astrid’s reasons for hating cyborgs are equally compelling. After a tumultuous beginning, Vengeance and Astrid struggle with unexpected feelings. Each admires the other for their prowess, determination, and ultimately for putting loved ones first. There are scenes that brought me to tears, when Astrid was emotionally devastated. “She was Astrid ****in’ Ragnhild, the Buoir Berserker. Their ***es were hers.” What did Vengeance need to do to repair her? The author skillfully carries us through each bit of anger, doubt, insecurity, understanding, admiration, and love that these two experience on their emotional journey. And what a trip that is!
Cynthia makes each story unique and fun. Vengeance and Astrid actually have so much in common, but they have such preconceived ideas of humans and cyborgs and such hatred. It really is understandable. Vengeance wants to prove that the genetic matching of cyborgs and females isn't permanent and is a danger to the cyborg Homeworld. Then he meets Astrid... his genetic match. And finds out that he's wrong. The fun is watching them come together and fighting it. As always I highly recommend the series!
This series is amazing. Vengeance and Astrid are both such strong beings, so full of hate, anger, pain. They fight their attraction, and their biases, to finally become a clan, learning about each other along the way. The author wove a captivating story, and I love that she maintained their personalities all the way though... even having their lovemaking be a battle.
Loved this !!! He is a true add hole but you do come to love him , she is a true Alfa bitch and reminds you of the Vikings of old . He hates humans and his true mate is a human as strong in her hate of cyborgs as he is in his for humans,I fell into this series with the first book (Calming Rage ) and I couldn't out the series down , yes I cried and I cheered .I am hoping for more like maybe Truths story of Powers. ...
Omg I thought I loved the other stories but this one was do look good I loved every brutal minute of it. It really good a tale about how the war affected beings on Both sides of the war and truly show the horrors of the humanoid alliance. I actually cried during certain scenes especially the ones where Astrid finds her family. But I also laughed and smiled because both H&h were so well created. Loved it 💖💖
Wow! What a ride of emotions between, Vengeance and Astrid; so perfect for each other? Plenty of action, strong willed personality, love, passion, and steamy hot romance with awesome characters. Very highly recommended series and keep them coming; they are awesome?
I could not put it down! From the first page to the last , Vengeance delivers one action-packed adventure after another, coupled with strong characters, especially the female human warrior Astrid. Loved this book! I read it straight through! Can't wait to dive into the next one!
Lawd the feels from this book! This series just keeps getting better and better. I won't give away too much but there was definite tears when these two warriors let their guard down. I knew Vengeance would fall hard but damn is he stubborn!
When I opened the book today, to read the last couple of paragraphs, I had a feeling that there were too many sex scenes. Which is a very odd thing to say, considering before I thought this was one of the better books she’s written. And the fact that this is a sex book. A sex book can’t have too much sex, one would think.
It had an exciting premise for the story. There were far more twists than I expected and they were logical ones. The small misunderstandings I was mostly OK with. It was interesting to see a female fitting in on home world.
And as much as I can understand the onslaught of sex scenes near the end of the story, it was a little too much for me and they forgot to do something that they promised they were going to do for Death and his female.
As logical as I think it would be for them to return to her home planet at the end of the book, I knew it would not be shown.
Hopefully my head cannon on what happens on the planet is shown in some small part in another story.
I also think home world could use a bit more fleshing out since I don’t think anywhere outside of Vengeance’s chamber and the training room gets a decent description. In fact that might be one of the areas that the author lacks in.
We are on cyborg home world and I don’t know if we ever were outside of the building at one point in the entire story. Or if we even moved from one building to another. We were just in a room, a corridor, another room and even then I don’t think we got any colors or anything outside of those two rooms I mentioned before. The author could have reinforced, any color she would have liked, I’m going with metallic gray, of their world and hyped on the sameness and repeating patterns, but I don’t think we got even that.
And how could his female not at one point, ask why they had no windows and get back the question why would they need windows? Or have her ask that of the human medic who she sees everyday?
It was close to getting 5 stars but now that I’ve given the story a little distance and thought it’s getting 4 which isn’t that bad. So that would be my suggestion for this story if the author very dared to touch up the story. Describe the none spectacular environments as well.
But this is one of the better executed storylines, and I do consider it to be a lot of fun.
PS - the excerpt at the end of the story is not from the book they think it is. It’s from the first book in this series. Something else for them to fix.
It's Vengeance's turn to find his special someone and she's the type of woman who can stand up to the surly cyborg and go toe-to-toe with him on the things that matter. You know, like not kicking the human mates to the curb because they *might* be a threat to the cyborgs.
Frankly, Astrid's a little crazy, a lot bloodthirsty, and a perfect match for Vengeance. The fact Vengeance tried to break their bond...no wait. It was more like he tried to deny the bond between them. Or maybe pretend it could be broken. Which wasn't the best plan of attack since it sent entirely the wrong message to Astrid and nearly did the breaking in itself.
As we know, the bond between a cyborg and his genetic mate is EVERYTHING. So Vengeance trying to deny it hurt both him and Astrid and NOT COOL, MAN. Not cool.
In the end, even a surly, hard-headed cyborg can't escape falling in love when he meets his special someone. Breaking the bond isn't something that anyone wants and grumpy pants needs to deal with it. *thumbs up*
Vengeance hates all humans and is determined to have them removed from the Homeland. He uses himself as an experiment to prove that cyborgs can resist their mates. What he doesn’t expect is for his mate to be a fierce warrior who hates cyborgs and is determined to kill him.
This book started off rough because Vengeance is a human hating asshole. But this book does a great job with character development for him. He changes so much after meeting Astrid and opening up to his emotions. Astrid was a badass. I really liked her. She was deadly, scared, and wasn’t afraid to fight for Vengeance.
Overall, this one was one of the best books in this series. The last few books have definitely had better character and story development compared to the beginning of the series. I hope we see more of Astrid and Vengeance in the future books, mostly Astrid because I loved her.
Vengeance believed that every human was dangerous to the Home World and that they needed to be taken off the planet. Many other Cyborgs who had human mates of course disagreed with him and threatened to find his Female. Vengeance knew even if he found his Female he would be able to resist her and show every Cyborg that the bond could be resisted. Astrid hated all Cyborgs because they had killed her whole family and destroyed her planet. She was determined to kill every Cyborg that she could no matter what the out come was to herself. Then she met Vengeance and everything changed. How can you hurt someone that you find attractive? How can you kill someone that you have had relationship with? Astrid struggled with those questions until a ship comes to pick them up. Now what to do?
He was a douche! Lol. But I loved Astrid! I LOVE kicka$$ women!
This book had to grow on me. I didn’t care for Vengeance he was playing games IMO. Supposedly for his people. He came off immature to me. Not mature enough to understand his own feelings and not mature enough to know what love was. Especially considering that the cyborgs share information!
Okay so they only found 1(!) match in all the databases across their universe for a cyborg mate?!? Seriously, what is the point of this plot premise if it’s not going to be utilized more effectively?!? Smh.
I still love this series and this author! But not my favorite story in the line.
This book is about Vengeance, he's a member of the cyborg council on the Homeworld. He hates all humans and sees the cyborgs females as a weakness against all cyborgs, he has a goal: try and get all the human females expelled from the homeworld. To do this he's going to capture is female from her planet and then show the rest of the cyborgs that it's possible to resist the one woman genetically compatible as his mate. Things don't go quite as planned when his female Astrid turns out to be a fierce warrior. She hates all cyborgs like Vengeance hates all humans. The two constantly try to kill each other and the violence leads to lust. Can these two realize that what they thought about the other might not be right and that humans and cyborgs can be allies and lovers?
I couldn't finish this book. It was full of sharing sex in everywhere and every place. It was full of "You're too slow." "I'm going to kill you this planet rotation, male. But I'll fuck you first." ('-') I think the series is turning with every book to only erotica. No action, no suspense and nothing except sex. Astrid looks like cavewoman.
I love Cynthia's Cyborg series. This latest in the series does not disappoint in any way. This book grabs you from the first sentence right through to the last word. I always enjoy a very strong female role ,an Astrid filled the bill perfectly. She was fierce, yet used common sense when trying to understand Vengeance. Could not have been happier with the way the story line played out....loved it!
He's going to get the female they claim belongs to him. He's going to show them that human females are not to be trusted. She doesn't trust cyborgs because they are nothing but killing machines. When he gets on her planet, she going to kill him, if she can. This is a fun entertaining hot read that will have you laughing. Enjoy I did.
As usual Cynthia sax has enthralled us with our heros and our heroines. Both strong and very passionate. But, Astrid is one of my favorite s. I love that while both lovers were dedicated to their cause, they realized their need for each other and their bond that connects them together, no matter what.
By one sexy cyborg. This story made me cry, laugh and get angry... mostly at him. The vulnerability of both leads, and their fear of it was clear and believable. The "breeding" (as opposed to fucking) was hot, and the emotional damage felt real. I love this series.
This might be one of my favorites of the series - which is hard to do this far into a series. Astrid was a great female lead - kick ass, honorable and sexy. Unlike some books I have read recently, there was no dubious consent here and Astrid was a full willing participant in the sexy times. A nice change of pace.
Exciting feisty romantic comedy of two different characters who try to fight their attraction to each other! One of my favorites in this series, characters are incredible, fights won with honor, and true emotions of endless love enduring! Thanks for the wonderful read💖💖
Normally I don’t buy books, I use kindle unlimited. I do that because I read too quick. I could not resist buying this series because the first book was so good. Here I am on the 12th book and I love them!
