By night, she’s a waitress in a club because it pays the bills. By day, she’s a boutique jewelry designer looking to make a name for herself. And this year, on her 40th birthday, she’s got her sweet heart and dirty thoughts set on one gift … Him.
He’s one of the last bad boy bachelors in town. He’s the one who runs the tattoo parlor. He’s the one with the record. He’s the one to make all her wicked, erotic dreams come true …
*This story was originally published as Ink Spots with Ellora's Cave Publishing, Inc. It has had another round of edits and revisions.*
Big, hulking, bald, tattooed, pierced ex-con and tattoo artist Jaz and blonde, green-eyed independent jewelry-designer-moonlighting-as-waitress Mandi have been lusting after each other for the past 6 months, but none has acted on it - for reasons that are still unclear to me. On Mandi's 40th birhtday, Jaz's (foster) sister Jackie, who happens to be Mandi's boss and friend too, decides to play matchmaker and gives Mandi something someone she's been craving but was afraid to ask for: Jaz. Needless to say, he's more than happy to put himself at Mandi's sexual disposal and become her best birthday present ever. The question is, will that be just a one-day deal or will he be still available after her birthday is over?
Wow, Jaz and Mandi didn't waste any time to get down and dirty. This book singed my fingers and made me look for my fan right from the start, because Jaz and Mandi didn't play coy and had no problem saying (and doing) everything they wanted. While that increased the heat level of the story, it made me question their behavior: if they were so uninhibited like that, why had they circled around each other for 6 months before Jackie had had enough of that and almost literally shoved Jaz into Mandi's arms? Don't you hate it when your brain makes an appearance in the middle of a good erotica/romantica book? LOL
Anyway, this was a nice, steamy read once I put that thought aside. It wasn't as good as Simple Need, my favorite in the series, but it was better than Carnal Ecstasy.
The model on the cover fits Jaz's description - miracles do happen, LOL - but I like "my" Jaz better:
He was a big man, standing six foot four, and within about six inches on either side of being as wide in the shoulders as a standard doorway. That's... big. ;) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I LOVE LISSA MATTHEWS’ WORK! This is how erotica romance should be done!
After reading Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James and finding myself very close to chucking my ereader out the window, I finally found an erotica romance that is HOT AND DIRTY but also has some substance to it. In fact, my ereader nearly had a melt down because of this book!
I adored Vinter’s story (Simple Need) and really enjoyed Dallon’s story (Carnal Ecstasy), but Ink Spots is my second fave out of the trio! Vinter still has the top spot! Who could resist his piercings down there?
I loved Jaz! With his pierced nipple, shaved head, and colourful tattoos, what’s not to love about this guy? He’s a threateningly big guy, but he’s also a “marshmallow” when it comes to Mandi. He treats her so well and I would agree that if I got Jaz as a birthday present, I’d be one happy camper!
Mandi was my favourite out of the three woman, though Jackie was also very entertaining as well. I’m sensing another book featuring Jackie and that cop, Mac. I would love to read that story!
Bottom Line? Want some hot and downright dirty action? PICK.THIS.UP!
Those of you that know me know my love for all things Lissa Matthews and this book is no exception! Jaz is SMOKIN' HOT!! I will go so far as to say ALMOST as hot as Vinter!! :) - This, like the other two in this series, is a rather short story, which is really my only complaint as I would love to spend a lot more time with this incredibly gorgeous, tattooed, pierced men!!!
I couldn’t get into this one like I did the other two. I couldn’t connect to the characters and I didn’t feel the connection between them. But, it was a good story though.
Wow, wow, and WOW! Another hot as hell story - I loved it. Vinter is still my favourite, but quite frankly all of these boys should come with a health warning. They are clothes meltingly sexual and not afraid to show it.
When I can peel off the floor and get some moisture back into my mouth I have GOT TO get a job in a bar!!
Another smoking hot short story. Jaz is the hero in this story and man oh man is he H.O.T. 6'3" covered in tats, piercings and is bald and scary looking on the outside but is a great big teddy bear on the inside. He has been hot over Mandi for a couple of years and when he is offered the opportunity to be her birthday present boy toy he jumps at it. Little did he know that Mandi has had a secret crush on him too. (Why don't I ever get birthday presents like him? It's just not fair.) The sex is smokin' and and nasty and not for the faint of heart. I loved it. My only complaints were that as much as I loved Jaz, I didn't really like Mandi so much. I just didn't like her pretense of being shy and innocent one minute and in the next she is stripping in the parking lot and pleasuring herself. REALLY? I just couldn't see why he felt so intense about her. I also wished there was an epilogue cause this just ended too abruptly. I really liked this story and I LOVED Jaz but Vinter is still my favorite. After reading this story, I had to go back and read Vinter's again. **BIG SIGH**
HOT,HOT,HOT... It's Mandi's 40th birthday and she's been eyeing Jaz since she started working at Katz six months ago. Unbeknownst to her, Jaz has had his eye on her too. Jaz's foster sister Jackie, who also happens to be Mandi's friend, sets up a surprise birthday "present" for Mandi on the night of her birthday. When Jaz comes into Mandi's dressing room and locks the door, she cannot believe the object of her lustful thoughts and wanting, is all over her. This book was hot, though not as steamy as Simple Need. Jaz is super smokin hot with tattoo's and piercings a plenty. He showers Mandi with attention and all I have to say is "Why can't I get a birthday present like that?" :) There's a cameo in here from Vinter (sigh, fans self), and his now girlfriend Elise too. Very good steamy quick read. Four a half stars!
For me another great read from Lissa Matthews, I have made no secret about the fact I loved Vinter's book *fans self* and this set me off on a little trek through the next two installments, both of which have left me feeling squirmy and hot under the collar. Why? I don't know, it could be a combination of the kind of coincidences that, in your fantasies, you hope will happen to you, and characters you like. Whilst what happens to them might be a little outside most peoples realities (if only) there is something truly likeable and relatable about the characters. Mandi is a jewellery designer who waitresses in her friends strip bar to pay her bills, she has the hots for her friends brother, and he has the hots for her. Jaz is intimidating and stares at her like he wants to eat her, thankfully with a little manoeuvring from her friends, he is able to do just that.
Jaz introduces Mandi to his world and allows her to embrace her sexuality, he knows just what he wants and is no longer afraid to go and get it. The book also reunites us with Vinter and Dallon, and introduces Jackie and Mac.... I wonder if Jackie and Mac could be the next installment *bats eyelashes hopefully*.
If you want something to get your new year started with a bang, then this could be the book for you, let Jaz and Mandi spice up your life, perhaps it will make you wan to start the year with a little ink.
A new years frilly recommendation, I give Ink Spots 4 frilly knickers out of 5, a damp pantie read with birthday candles on top!
meh, opening is ~facepalm/eyeroll~ as much for the "oh, been fantasizing over colored contacts and a wig for a few months huh?" as "hi lets fuck my sis says I'm your birthday present"/"oh okay, yay!"
Straight up erotica, fantasy weekend and amp up the sex aspects a bit more instead of trying to tack HEA crush-turned-fantastic birthdayfuck=the one 4eva+eva? Yeah this could have worked.
Another 50 or so to work in some depth to characterization/actually carrying on a few conversations not related to sex, the romance would have worked. Too many shortcuts falling back on cliche trope on Characterization, then ignoring them with a handwave of "but it is okay because--" trying to make the HEA. Jaz is potentially a very interesting character if had been given a bit more of a chance to think with his big head, used the trope of his background to make a character rather than a characterization.
Also, serious eyetwitch at the part where he's an ex-con and a partner in a bar? Wait? WHAT? Srsly? What? Somehow not quite able to suspend disbelief to the point that someone with a criminal record is going to go over well with the state liquor licensing board. And Mandi's "oh I don't care you've been in jail" then turns around and asks what Jaz what he got in trouble for. ~headdesk~
Yet again Lissa Matthews has written an amazingly hot and sexy story. Jaz is a hard and extremely hot tattoo artist with many talents under his belt, and he is totally ready to take on his next project and the girl starring in all of his nightly dreams.
Mandi knows exactly what she wants for her birthday and she is so ready to take all Jaz is willing even if it is just for the next twenty four hours. But along the way they just may discover that twenty four hours is never going to be enough for these two who continue to burn down the house, or tattoo parlor so to speak.
Lissa Matthews is never one to disappoint and she has yet to let me down. I love the men she writes, they fulfill all of your bad boy fantasies while making them have the ever so sensitive side we all want them to have, and the women they love always are a version of each of us in them with their sometimes hidden beauty and even a few extra curves to love. Her stories are always well written and such fun to read, I highly recommend her, and if you haven't tried her yet it only takes one of her stories and you will be hooked watching and waiting for her next story to come out.
This actually wasn't a bad ending to this trio of books by Lissa Matthews. The heroine in this one was a bit older, but the Hero didn't even realise that because she didn't look her age. She was the usual full-figured woman that I've read throughout these books that I really liked and definitely appreciate since we're so used to these thin, young women as the heroines in these types of books.
Along with all of that the book was not lacking in the sexy times area. Whoa boy, did it ever have a ton of sex scenes. It wasn't bad though so I should mention that. I liked the whole idea surrounding a redeemed Hero and a still desirable 40-something heroine.
All in all, I enjoyed it. Matthews' writing is smooth and she's a definite good storyteller.
INK SPOTS by Lissa Matthews Happy Birthday, Mandi and......what a gift! Too bad Jackie didn't put a big bow around her foster brother's, well, we'll leave that to your imagination.
This is a wonderful short story that gets right to the heart of the matter from page 1.
If you are looking for a light, easy read, this is the book. It's full of sex, laughter and a hint of BDSM mixed in throughout the book. It was a fun and entertaining book .
NOTE: Exotika novels have graphic love scenes but contain little or no romance.
Yes . . . 4 stars it is . . . I was losing hope after reading Dallon's story in Carnal Ecstasy but Jaz came to the rescue. I enjoyed reading this story! I've always loved protective men . . . alpha males as I would call them. I love the possessiveness . . . the attention, the caring they give to their women! And Jaz is just that man!
Even though this book is not paranormal, it's good to read about "bad boys" that are truly just a "marshmallow"!
This last installment did not disappoint!

This was...disappointing. Ink spots has been on my TBR list for years. But the price kept me from buying it. I finally got to borrow a copy of it.
And I was extremely disappointed in it. It wasn't What I expected it to be. I felt no connection to the characters and I didn't feel the connection between the characters. I know they said they'd had a crush on each other for a while, but I didn't feel it.
This was my favorite of the three. I love friends-to-lovers and while this wasn't exactly that, it was a mutual crush realized. And super hot, too. I wouldn't mind a birthday present like that, lol!
This was a pretty good story. I really liked both Mandi and Jaz and liked their story. While I've already read a book by this author (The Cupcake Cowboy), I haven't read the first 2 books in the series. Although this story started rather abruptly, I don't think reading the first 2 book really would have made much of a difference except maybe to have us already familiar with the characters so this worked well enough as a stand alone story.
Mandi is a custom jewelry maker that works nights as a waitress in order to make some extra money while her jewelry business takes off. She recently moved to the area and got the job at a club owned by her friend Jackie, who she's known since college. Mandi is single and has been crushing on Jackie's foster brother, Jaz, for the last 6 months. She's too shy to approach him though, figuring he'd never be interested in her.
Jaz is a business owner, a tattoo artist and a drummer. He didn't grow up having a good life and made a stupid decision that put him in jail young. He did his time and has made sure to live crime free since then. Jaz's artistic talents started him on tattooing and eventually he ended up part owner in a couple of businesses (a tattoo shop being one of them) and then starting a garage band with his 2 friends (the heroes from books #1 & 2). Jaz frequent's Jackie's club and is waited on by Mandi frequently. He's been interested in her since he first saw her but wasn't sure if she'd be interested in an ex-con.
The story starts rather abruptly with Jaz asking Jackie if they're set. Apparently it's Mandi's 40th birthday and Jackie set up Jaz as Mandi's birthday present for the next 24 hours. It comes out pretty quickly that Jackie knew both of them had a thing for the other so she sets this up as a way to get them together. Mandi has just gotten off her shift as a waitress and is in the changing room. Jaz goes back and surprises her and gets a little surprise himself. It ends up, as part of her uniform, Jackie had Mandi wearing a wig and contacts so this whole time, Jaz has been thinking (and fantasizing) about her with black hair and blue eyes and he finds out she's actually a blonde with green eyes. This doesn't bother Jaz though, if anything it just makes him want her even more. Mandi has been a bit shy around Jaz before this but once she finds out he's her birthday present she gets a bit more adventurous and willing to have some fun.
The story takes place over the space of 24 hours and it's not an insta-love. They're not proclaiming their undying love by the end and I was happy about that. Mandi and Jaz spend the night and the next day having lots of sex and getting to know each other. They already had been crushing on each other and as they spend more time together, they both realize that want much more than just a day. They have a lot in common and the time spent together just shows them how well they mesh. There were some really sweet moments in addition to many sexy ones. I particularly liked the special birthday tattoo Jaz gives Mandi. The story ends with Jaz and Mandi agreeing to start in a relationship together and see where they can go. I'd say it's a HFN heading towards a HEA.
This was a pretty enjoyable read. It was short and sexy but also sweet with bits of romance that made it more than just an erotic read. I really liked both Jaz and Mandi and was happy with the way things worked out for them. I'll probably go back and read the first 2 books in this series eventually. I'd recommend this story for anyone looking for a short, sexy and sweet read. ;)
First of all - I kind of hate the title. I don't know why.....it just doesn't seem to be hot enough for the contents of the book. On the other hand, I have no idea what a "hot" title would be. So there.
Next, I had no idea when I started reading this that it was the 3rd book in a series. I'm frustrated now because I like to read a series in order. I'm pretty anal-retentive about that. That being said, I don't feel I was lost or confused by the story. But as soon as I finish writing this review - I will be reading book 1 and then 2. If they are as short and sweet as book 3, I should get through them both in no time.
Ok - so, Ink Spots. The easiest way to describe this book is as follows: You know those porn DVDs that just have a series of smoking hot sex scenes strung together with no plot? That is this book. Well, that's not exactly fair. There is a little plot. It's Mandi's birthday.....she's always had a crush on Jaz (her boss's brother).....Jaz has always had a crush on Mandi......the sister sort of fixes them up as a birthday present for Mandi.....and they have smoking hot sex all day long. In a nutshell.....that's the book.
But besides the thin plot and hot sex, there is a great deal of character development. Mandi and Jaz do talk to each other between sex breaks and you learn a lot about them - and their past. It's quite sweet, actually. But then there were the times when the character's inner dialogue went something like this: "He wanted the next piece of meat she put in her mouth to be his cock not another piece of bacon." Yea. See - I'm not mature enough to not laugh and snort at that.
While my review does sort of come across like I didn't like.....that isn't correct. I loved the book. It was hot, short, and to the point. It didn't have any ambition to be anything other than what it was - smoking hot sex intertwined with enough character development to make you love Mandi and Jaz and hope they had a HEA in their near future.
I picked this one up the other day as I have heard so much good things about this authors voice and her touch with erotic material. I will admit the cover helped alot in my decision to try out this book as well.
INK SPOT turned out to be an odd little story for me – Firstly the story is about the moment when Tattoo artist Jaz gets his greatest wish, the girl he has been lusting after for month. This happens on the night of Mandi’s (the girl in question) birthday and Jaz is her surprise gift. By page five he makes no bones about what he wanted and then they proceeded to burn up the pages of this short story.
INK SPOT didn’t work for me on some basic level - for one I didn’t like the protags - at all, while it was nice that they were not coy or played games about what they wanted I just didn’t like them, I just couldn’t connect with their personality.
My secondly niggle with the book was that it was all sex – literally. The sex itself was not the problem it was the lack of questioning, the assumed and just some really odd moments like Mandi “taking the pill because the boss told her employees to”.
While I accept this book is more of a romp, it was just odd to have a book of 93 pages having so much sex scenes that it actually overshadowed the few moments when the protags converse and tried to know each other.
The book also start too abruptly and right from the outset I could tell there was something missing. This book just happens to be the third in a series of books based around a tri of guys who have are on the verge of finding their perfect girl – this just happen to be Jaz’s story.
I only found that out after I read the book and went searching.
If you have read the first two books in this series, them by all means you must finish up the lot, but please do not attempt to read this first as it is just flat on it’s own.
Mandi is a waitress that works for her friend Jackie at the club that she co-owns. Jackie knows that Mandi has a crush on her foster brother/ friend Jaz. Jackie goes to Jaz and lets him know that Mandi has a crush as well as a birthday coming up. Jaz gave Mandi himself as a birthday present for 24 hours, the best birthday ever.
This book was so hot and sexy. I enjoyed the book a lot, and the erotica left you wanting more. The cover alone had me sweating, it is just so sexy. Jaz is not your simple boring hero and that made it better for me. The tats were a sexy addition to this bad boy; the way Jaz is being described in the book had my mouth watering. Mandi was shy and sweet but once in Jaz arms it was hot. The Book is a part of a series by the author, this is book 3 can't wait to read the previous books, I hear those are even hotter than book 3.
Book contains sexually graphic and explicit acts.
Storyline: FAIR Intimacy: VERY GOOD Enjoyment: GOOD ebook length: 92 pgs depends on format.

Mandi has always had a secret crush on Jaz. He comes into her boss Jackie's bar quite often because Jackie and Jaz had the same foster parents. When her ultimate birthday wish comes true, and she has Jaz all to herself for her entire birthday, she knows exactly what she wants to do with him. She just hopes that he wants the same thing.
Like with Carnal Ecstasy, I found this one to be a little bit boring compared to the first in the series, Simple Need. I don't know if it's just that I like Vin so much, but Dallon and Jaz just don't compare in my mind. But, I did like Jaz better than Dallon.
This story was short and there isn't much conflict, but the sex was pretty good. I was actually surprised though that it wasn't as kinky as I thought it would be. With some of the reviews, I thought it was going to be off the wall! Perhaps it doesn't seem so bad because I just got through with Backstage Pass, and that was just about the kinkiest (in variety at least) erotica book I've ever read. lol
But either way, it was a decent short story erotica, but I'd recommend Simple Need first. Vin is a hottie! The penis piercings. Need I say more? Yum. I'm curious about Mac and Jackie though. There seemed to be something going on there so I wonder if there will be a fourth Simple Need story! That'd be cool. :)
