I was never supposed to go to the Between. I was never supposed to fall in love with Caius. And yet, I’ve done both. Since stepping through that portal, I’ve done a lot of things I never thought I would.
Like coming face-to-face with a god. Or encountering the one person in all the worlds I didn’t want to meet. Or having a fairy floor me with just a few words and realizing things are a lot more complicated than just stopping the Lost.
Everything is changing, secrets are revealed, and something that shouldn’t even be possible has become reality. I never imagined any of this could happen. My imagination was clearly lacking.
4.5 ⭐️ this series has taken me by surprise in the best way—I couldn’t put book 2 down! An easy read with a good balance of fantasy, action and romance mixed with real world human experiences. Plus, we always love a dark & shadowy demon love interest. Excited to read book 3, the last in the series
Betrayed continues the thrilling Raven Daughter trilogy as Jo and Caius venture into the perilous world of the Between—a realm filled with deadly magic, forgotten gods, and powerful secrets. With a looming war, cryptic prophecies, and personal stakes rising, their journey becomes as emotional as it is dangerous.
What I loved:
💖 The romance – Jo and Caius’s relationship finally blossoms, and it was everything I hoped for: slow-burn, intense, and full of emotion.
🌍 The world building – The Between is haunting, magical, and absolutely captivating. Each location felt alive and immersive. I wanted to be there so bad while reading about it.
🔄 The twists and turns – Just when I thought I had things figured out, the story threw me off in the best way. The betrayal? I didn’t see it coming.
🗝️ The growing stakes – The deeper connection to the prophecy and the escalating conflict added real weight to every scene.
🐾 Bonus points for Amisi – Jo’s cat deserves her own fan club. I'm not a cat person, but damn, do I want a cat like Amisi😍
I’m officially obsessed with this series. Betrayed was so good that I’m going to buy the physical books for my trophy shelf, and I’m beyond excited to start book 3. If you like immersive fantasy with romance, danger, and unforgettable characters, don’t miss this one!
This series is one of the best i have read in a long time. I am fully sucked in and though life is busy and im not able to sit and binge read it, i find myself looking forward to when i get to pick it up again. The audiobook version is wonderful and the narrator really does a good job on it. I love following Jo and Caius on their journey and the author has not only brought life to them but the rest of the characters as well. I had to buy physical copies for my shelf because i want to keep them forever. The depth of the worlds, characters, creatures, frankly just everything about the book is so full of detail its like watching a movie in my head.
Caius has grown on me so very much. He’s so sweet to Jo but will murder anyone who mistreats her without a second thought. I can only see his protectiveness ramping up from here so I’m excited to see how this series will end.
The second Raven’s Daughter book was just as exciting as the first! I loved the development of the relationship between Jo and Caius. As with all of A.D. Trosper’s books, the world building was fantastic. I loved the introduction of Nyx. Definitely a great character and I hope she plays a bigger part in the next book. The ending of the book was the best part. I won’t post any spoilers, but I’ll just say I was really happy with the way things came together. Can’t wait for the third book in the series!
So much happens in this book! Jo has become one of my all time favorite heroines. She overcomes so much and continues to grow and get stronger. Cauis is definitely a dreamboat! This story has it all and the narrators do a fabulous job of conveying the emotional roller coaster that this book takes you on!
This is book 2 of the Raven Daughter series. Caius and Josephine, Jo, have been through near death experiences and are continuing their journey to save the Lost souls that are disappearing as soon as a person dies. Their journey is one of epic proportions as it is affirmed that Jo is the prophecy mentioned by Moragan. This is another cliff-hanger.
So far this series has been highly entertaining, fun and, at times, thought provoking. It has caused me to examine some of my deeply held beliefs. A very good thing to do periodically.
Betrayed is the 2nd book of the Raven Daughter Trilogy and the fact that I continued on with this series instead of breaking it up with another book speaks volumes to how amazing it is. Now, at any given time I usually read series completely through and DO NOT read other books in between, but I have found that during the challenge I have an easier time writing reviews and differentiating the plots of individual books in a series if I break them up. BUT Unveiled was too wonderful and left on too much of a cliff hanger for me to pick up another series, I JUST HAD TO SEE WHERE BETRAYED LED ME!
So, Jo and Caius have decided they don’t want to risk their family and friends anymore so they decide to slip through the gateway to the Between, leaving the rest of their party behind. They then continue on their journey to find the 2nd key. The Between is a very unique land filled with carnivorous trees, crazy beasts, and other deadly creations. As they search for more information on the 2nd key Jo and Caius are thrown into so many herrowing and deadly battles, where they fight off strange and scary entities, learn buried secrets about each other, learn to trust each other on a deeper level, and finally their slow burn romance comes to a fiery conclusion.
This story was so spellbinding. I just couldn’t put it down. There were so many twist, turns, secrets revieled, and exciting developments that I didn’t see coming, loyalty, amazing friendships and family. The epic conclusion of the book was so intriguing I had to sacrifice much needed sleep to find out how it all went down.
My favorite characters were Jo and Caius in this one. Their romance was so well written and I absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. The slow burn nature quickly heated up and there was some on the page sex scenes, but they were very tasteful and extremely steamy.
So if you enjoy a story with lots of crazy cool beings and entities, a completely creative magic system and fantastic world building, and amazing characters that often don’t act in their stereotypical roles, where not all demonborn are bad and and not all angels are virtuous, and good vs evil is subjective then you just have to read The Raven Daughter Trilogy.
You won't feel Betrayed by this book, it delivers. (See there, I did it again)
You really should read Unveiled first and I will attempt to avoid spoilers. That said, I wholeheartedly recommend these books to anyone who enjoys a paranormal romance that has heart, a wonderful cast of characters and a good plot.
Snarky Jo and arrogant Caius are back, and I love them more with every page. As Jo comes to grips with the realities of her world, a world wherein her most trustworthy ally is a high-ranking demonborn, she begins to embrace her power and her potential role in the war she thinks is heading their way. A war prophesied by the Morrigan, the supernatural Mother Of All whose end it is foretold Jo will bring about. But prophesies are tricky things, as we all know.
The action is fast-paced and there are plenty of dangers awaiting her and her allies, not the least of which is her own unfathomable power and her growing affection for her demonborn partner. Jo and Caius sport the same rebellious streak concerning following the rules of people who are trying to kill them (which I totally love) and we discover another bond between them that makes me root for them all the harder. The loyalty they feel for each other and the sparks that fly are tantalizing and satisfying at the same time - as any good romance should be.
Again there is a slightly cliffhanger ending as with Unveiled but I am sure all loose threads will be tied up in the pending sequel and I just can't wait to find out what happens next. You do not want to miss this series.
You know how you find a book series that has you so hyped up for the next one?! This is that series! I stumbled upon Trosper and I have to say that I am glad I did. I love her writing style. The flow of the story moves so effortlessly that before you even realize it you’ve reached the end. There’s just the right amount of romance, steam, action, and humor. I loved the plot twist and can’t wait to see how it plays out in the long run.
Caius is the epitome of the morally grey alpha who will burn the heavens and hells for his mate and it just gives all the feels! I love Jo and her snark. She may not have all her shit together but she does a fine job making others think she does. She is fiercely loyal for someone who had few friends growing up.
Zachary Johnson voices Caius so well that it really is a bummer that he only has a few lines at the end of every chapter. Suzanne T. Fortin did a great job overall but sometimes I got lost between her character voice and the inner monologue. It was often confusing. But together they make a great pair. My only wish was that the audio was a duet rather than dual. Overall I love this series and I can’t wait to dive into book 3! Highly recommended!
This second book in the series is just as good, if not better than the first. As the title suggests the theme of betrayal runs through various threads in the story. It is a unique, thrilling and sometimes heart wrenching story laced with action, battles, deceit, romance and prophecy. As the war prophesied by the Morrigan seems to be drawing nearer and nearer, Joe, Caius and their allies continue to try to find a solution to the Lost, while at the same time having to fight for their own survival. The romance between Jo and Caius deepens in this story and there are a few surprises and revelations that often create more complications than solutions. I loved how Joe has begun to fully embrace her power and how new aspects of it are being slowly revealed. I also love the cat and can’t wait to see if she has a bigger role to play in the next book. The narrators of the audiobook, Suzanne T. Fortin & Zachary Johnson, did a great job for bringing the story to life and giving the characters individual voices that suits the characters well. This is a fast action story with characters you easily become attached and an ending that leaves you dying for the next in the series.
What a great story in Betrayed by A.D. Trosper. I am a fan of this author! I love it when a Legacy author sends me more of their work! I read the first book in this series Raven Daughter and enjoyed it. This author brings the story to life. The characters had a lot of depth, and were very realistic. This author has a great imagination. This can go beyond Jo's imagination, or even that Caius, who can be a real jerk. They are back, and there are different circumstances, but they must deal with the embracing of the powers now that they are in the portal, and everything is beginning to emerge, darkness and even a bit of light, but destiny has its own plan in mind. I do recommend reading the books from the beginning of the series (Unveiled). But I do that for all series, and in this case, it is especially important. Packed with mystic, magic and new worlds and it takes the reader on a superb adventure. If you love a good paranormal with a twist, this book should be next on your list. This story was very intriguing and unpredictable. Betrayed is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author.
I’m not sure how you unpack everything that happened in book two other than to say, I enjoyed every minute of the story and performances from both narrators, and I highly recommend it.
A.D. has created a world you will wish you could visit in more than just your mind. I absolutely loved the inbetween world Caius and Jo spent most of the book. If someone could just add that as I place I could visit, maybe at Universal or something, I would be happy. I loved all the descriptions, creatures, plants and “people” who lived there. I loved the bound that grew between Caius and Jo and their group and I loved Jo’s cat the most.
This story had me yelling, laughing, crying and wanting more. I can’t wait to dive into book 3.
Amazing Job Zachary and Suzanne. You guys brought Audra’s story to life in a way that made me feel more connected to it. Your insights into the characters shown through in your performance. I absolutely loved it.
I was never supposed to go to the Between. I was never supposed to fall in love with Caius. And yet, I’ve done both. Since stepping through that portal, I’ve done a lot of things I never thought I would.Like coming face-to-face with a god. Or encountering the one person in all the worlds I didn’t want to meet. Or having a fairy floor me with just a few words and realizing things are a lot more complicated than just stopping the Lost.Everything is changing, secrets are revealed, and something that shouldn’t even be possible has become reality. I never imagined any of this could happen. My imagination was clearly lacking. Jo is growing and changing, she constantly challenges and surprises Caius with her resilient attitude. I enjoy these characters who have gone from enemies, to somewhat allies, to being mated. Their journey and it's dangers are from over. This is a well written story line that holds your attention.
I don’t really like “instant love”. And someone could argue that’s not what happened here but they drop the L bomb after one kiss. The forced proximity has been done well and the magic is interesting. This is one of the first fantasy books I’ve read that had a pregnancy trope in it so early on. It’s a little ridiculous to think the mom has now died two or three times, has been poisoned, beaten, and almost killed herself with a power drain and the baby is just absolutely fine… My last concern is that Jos powers keep changing to fit any situation the group is in. I hope in the last book the author settles on what exactly Jos magic and heritage are. I’m currently reading book 3 but I struggled to get through this one a bit.

LOVED it!! cant get enough of this series! Ive been a fan from day one and this world is so dark and intriguing but also so much heart ♥️ and swoony! I highlighted so many beautiful quotes from my demon Caius !!! Josephine and Caius finally bonded in the most romantic epic way possible. Everything is so crazy! The prophecy is almost complete... nothing is guaranteed!😭 Danger at every corner. Friends and Frenemies unite! And Jo’’s father makes an appearance 😭😭😭 Also, A few Gods come to help#Hadesisawesome!!! the final battle is yet to come! Cant wait for the next book !! #PNR#Romance#Jo&Caius##goals#revelations
Book 2 was just as exciting as book 1. I loved the growth of the relationship between Jo and Caius. You see a softer side of them both. The world building was fantastic and completely interesting. We get to hear the full version of the prophecy and it dropped big hints as to what as to come. Then the dreams Jo is having confirmed my assumptions and the journey solidified it. I'm not normally a fan of that trope but it was done really well. Looking forward to the next one and getting to know all the crew better.
Our characters are at least as charming in Betrayed as they were in Unveiled and this one ends a little less precipitously, but still with plenty of room for the continuing story.
I couldn't help but be interested and found myself reading the book at every free opportunity so that's always a good sign. I found myself in charity with our main characters and invested in their struggles, which is about as high a compliment as I can give.
I love that the characters continue to evolve and form this awesome family. This book continues right off the first. The chemistry between Cauis and Jo is amazing. Who knew a demon born and a reaper could fall in love, but they do. The world building is great which to me made this an awesome read.
This book moved a bit slower than the previous one, but things also begin to heat up a bit in more ways than one. I am I intrigued by all of the new players who are getting involved by assisting Jo and Caius in their journey. I'm looking forward to the conclusion.
Really enjoying this series, the characters and world! Sometimes I can predict what’s to come but I also read so much I can’t help but predict! Amisi the cat is my favorite new character in this book! Excited to read the last book and see what happens next!
Excellent. Based on the title I was looking for the betrayal and, yes, it is there. But is there only one betrayal or more? More characters are added and I especially love the cat, Amisi. Nyx, the goddess, is so critical to the story.
I love this series so much that I want it to last longer. Though I have the third book; I am reading a few other books before I complete the trilogy.
I can not put this book down until I finished it. So many things happening that I get so wrapped up with what is going to happen next. Already bought book 3 so I can continue with them on their adventure
..she wrote another awesome book. The thing was stuck to my hand and brain as if by glue. Very hard to put down even when I didn't have it in my hand. I can't wait to read the next one.
This is the second part of a journey. Usually, I find a second book does not live up to the thrill of the first. Boy, was I wrong here. I am now ready to finish the final leg of Jo and Radius' task, surrounded by characters who have become my friends, too.
3.5⭐️ I enjoyed the first book, but this one fell flat for me. While a lot happened a lot also didn’t happen. I felt the main characters suddenly got together and the tension was lost. Also there was a trope that I do not enjoy.
This is easy read with a good balance of fantasy, action, romance, many twist, turns, secrets revieled, loyalty, amazing friendships and family and amazing developments you don’t even see coming
