What do you do when the villain in your story just won't stay dead? Better yet, what if you're the only one who can see her for who she truly is?
I was ready for life to settle down for a while after the end of the war that Galladar-the-fairy brought to Earth. Unfortunately, destiny had other plans in store for me.
When a ten-year-old boy pops up in the backseat of my car and tells me he saw himself coming to me in a vision, things slowly begin to go to hell. Everybody wants him and nobody knows why. As if that wasn't enough, my sworn enemy, the Hedge witch Jane Dunham, will stop at nothing to get the kid, and she wants to destroy my entire world from the inside out while at it--her words, not mine.
And she's found the perfect way to do it.
I never knew much about my father, aside from what my mother told me. I never cared to ask, either, until that Hedge witch got the idea into my head. Now, there's no stopping old secrets from coming out, and when they do, killing Jane Dunham isn't going to be the hardest thing I'll have to deal with.
But when everything is said and done, who knows? Maybe I'll finally get my rooftop date with Julian Walker.
Ok, this is just a a “quickie” review. Unfortunately, I’m in a hospital and asked my husband to post this since I don’t have the time or ability right now to do better - even though the book definitely deserves it.
Bottom line: DN Hoxa’s Bone Spell (Winter Wayne Book 4) is wonderful and easily worth five stars. This was one truly fun novel and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted, was well written, with excellent world building and a great plot, and it’s lead half Bone Witch, half Fairy Winter (who continues to develop wonderfully both in scary magical abilities and in general character overall) and cast of supporting characters (from enemies like Jane Durham to love interests like Julian Walker and others like Bender and Ezra) were simply superb .
How old is Winter? Early twenties? I think? She acts more like she’s sixteen. The actual sixteen year old acts more mature than Winter. I can understand urgency and the need to get to the person or people who were taken by the antagonist, but if you can barely stand and if your allies can barely stand, then whatever you are going to try to do to fight the antagonist will probably fail. Every single time that situation happens in these books, Winter wants to rush off immediately after the antagonist even though she can barely stand. And when her allies point out that they are injured and need to heal, she pouts and whines about them not being able to understand that they need to go after the antagonist right at that instant.
I really do like winter in these books. Unfortunately for winter she’s always going from one bad thing to another. She never seems to have a break. I was definitely not expecting her to be able to see someone that she thought she killed but nobody else can see them. Now she has a kid to take care of that she found in her car but she can’t tell anybody about him and she’s trying to figure out what he is. He told winter he was a bone witch but other than that they really don’t know what else he is and why everybody wants to keep him locked away. Winter‘s enemies are trying to capture the boy so she’s trying to keep him safe along with her self. I know that she’s infatuated with Julian but he always seems to leave her for long periods of time and not come back when he says he’s going to come back. I feel that she should dump him because Bender seems to be more interested in her than Julian sometimes.
I haven't written a review for every book, because I couldn't waste time writing when I could be reading the next book! They are very well written and so easy to read that they make you desperate to find out what happens next. The characters work well together and have great chemistry, the story lines have continuity and all of the books link together so well. The emotions Winter displays are honest and relatable to how most of us feel about ourselves and situations we can get into.. All good things come to and end, but I hope that this book series doesn't!
The Hedge Witch is back with a vengeance & there’s a young boy stuck in the middle.
The boy is special and everyone seems to want him.
Winter finally starts finding out a little about her father but sadly not from her own family but by the evil hedge witch. Because if that during the big show down she chooses to get her escape rather then killing her since she says she’s the only one who knows how to find him. (He was trapped using dark magic by her grandparents & aunt)
Now Winter feels really guilty about lying to everyone, I’m assuming the next book will be about her trying to find her father in a magical dark prison.
A new book about Winter that was a great read. A mix of magic and faeries, the story is addicting. And I love Winters inner monologues. They make me laugh hysterically. That was just how the first chapter ended. I loved how it started and it sucked me in as I just had to find out what was so special about The Boy and how he connected to Winter. Hint, not what I expected. Plus all the others are back too. I loved the twist at the end and cannot wait to see what happens next. I just love Winter and the crazy she ends up involved in. Well worth reading.
This book had a few typos that were distracting as well as the longest magical battle scenes that seemed to drag on forever and were extremely repetitive. I was able to skip it skim a lot. It’s a common theme through the series. That being said, I have enjoyed the series and the story line. I’m really ready for Winter to get herself together though. Let’s make some forward progress in character development!!
Hoax has written another good read. For those who miss the Kim Harrison's style of the Hollows series. Plot keeps you reading even thru the to long fight descriptions. Characters are well developed although Winter is so immature you want to slap her for being so childish and irrational decision making
It’s amazing how each book in this series gets more intense, has more twists and turns — as ar Adler you literally devour them. Winter is an amazing strong yet compassionate heroine. Can’t wait for book 5!
The story moved well and entertained several plots well. Winter even has her own spell now; personally. I've read the whole series so far and have enjoyed every book.
Good story - well thought out. Characters are 3D and the actions are in character. I have read all the books in the series so far and I am very much looking forward to reading her next book. I would not hesitate to recommend this series to anyone.
Just when u think it cant get any better...... it does!!! Completely immersed in this series its awesome, i just want to know what happens next which means i cant out the boom down!!!
This book was such a slog to read. Most of the first half seems to involve interminable car journeys, with very limited action. It picks up in the second half. Overall, this series is disappointing, as the world building is promising, but the pacing is very uneven.
Bone Spell, the fourth book of the Winter Wayne series, is an ebook I downloaded from Kindle Unlimited. This writer has made skills at layering her sub-plots and adding tension to the storyline. An action-packed installment of the series.
Winter still has some exciting adventures and in this book she finds a little boy in the back of her car. To only find out he's a spellmaker. She has to protect him at all cost.
Well enough written but FMC is cold, selfish and a liar. She deserves to lose her love and her friends. Everyone makes mistakes; you are supposed to spend your life making up for it, not by being Narcissistic. Unlikeable FMC.
This did not go the way I thought it was gonna go. Man, to find out the mess that has been going on behind her back. That right there irked my nerves. The sacrifices that she had to make.

I'm now on book 5 and though it's not my favourite I would recommend it. I would like it to have more banter/jokeing and romance but other than that it’s good. For someone who doesn't want romance and smut I would highly recommend.
-Starts off slow but by the end of book it becomes a lot smoother read. -pg18 just bc of a few curse words -Great for High School Students WINTER- Fae/ Bone Witch -Detective FIN- Detective works with Winter JULIAN-Fairy that love Winter BENDER- Detective with ECU and Winter BFF JANE-Bad Head Witch EZRA- Kid thats a Spell-maker DURANT-secret group leads -they are over ECU Mrs.C 😀
We have a better idea about Winter in this fourth installment and how far she'll go for those the loves. Although it took four books to do it. It's clear that character building isn't this author's strong suit. Winter gets her world turned upside down... again by a long held secret.
