An Mpreg Romance

An unexpected reunion offers an Alpha and Omega a second chance…

Ten years ago, omega Alex Cary's fiancé broke his heart and left him with nothing. He's got a good career as a home chef, but he's lost his ability to trust.

Alpha Sol Delaney loved Alex more than oxygen, but he was dependent on his father's money. When his father demanded he break things off with the foster kid from the Bronx, Sol had no choice.

Ten years later, a freshly divorced Sol has returned to New York with his young son in tow. He wants Alex back, but it's not that easy: Sol's ex-husband and his mother in law are trying to drag Sol back, and there's no length to which they won't go.

I ended up skipping to the end. This book was not well put together and there were many times that I was left wondering what the hell was going on and not in a good way. My biggest disappointment is how unbelievable and absolutely ridiculous most of the story was. It had a good start but then it felt like the author wanted to end the story as easy and as quickly as possible.

I'm going to try some of this authors other books but if they're anything like this one, I wont ever be coming back.

Now, I'm trying to figure out why this has so many 5 star reviews because honestly, it was horrible. I've read fanfiction written a million times better than this.

I hate this book. The characters are so unlikable it's ridiculous. I made it to 70% and they were still judging each other and hating on each other. There were no revelations that they were being idiots, no romantic gestures, no anything.

It's just so awful. I have read a lot of Bates works and this one by far has to be the worst. I can't say it enough, I'm sorry. I just hate it so much.

Not the best...

Definitely not one of Aiden Bates’ better works. I mean, he writes beautifully. I love his style. But his alpha characters seem to have this annoying trait as of late - overbearing and unreasonable.

I mean, if you’re counting down the days till you’re reunited with the love of your life for the last ten years, I doubt you’d be rude and mean to the guy the next time you meet, right? It just didn’t make sense!

I get that drama is expected in novels. It is a make believe world, after all. And if you don’t have good drama, the story is somewhat muted and less...well, just less. But! This was already chock-full of drama from the ex-husband and his family. It did NOT need manufactured drama that did nothing but aggravate me.

Ugh... and if it was somehow written well enough that the turnabout from hate to love was done well, I could probably be on board with the romance portion. But it wasn’t and it didn’t. It only further aggravated me. It felt like one moment they were hating on each other and the next, they’re confessing love. And accepting proposals. Worst part is, Alex was still unsure about Sol’s love and feelings AFTER he accepted the proposal. I mean....why? Why would you say YES if that’s the case?

Sorry, rant over. Just did not sit well with me. And I’m a huge Aiden Bates fan and that makes me sad =[[

I usually am ecstatic about an Aiden Bates story, but this was just okay.
We have rich single dad, Sol, who has custody because his ex is on drugs, and endangered sweet Carsten. This little boy is adorable. Alex is a Personal Chef, and is hired by Sol, only neither man knows who they will be meeting.
Alex was dumped by Sol years ago, when Sol decided to do his overbearing father's bidding, and married the horrible Stuart.

So there is hard feelings, and uncomfortable situations, that get increasingly worse, when Stuart and his evil Mom begin attacking Sol, Carsten, and then Alex, too.
Our men sleep together once, and the evil events keep happening. When Alex gets a surprise, more inner thoughts, and "what if" scenarios get complicated, plus, Buddy and Alex are chosen to get a "booze and food" TV show. A lot is going on.

Sol seems so detached and archaic in his thoughts, he did not impress me, but Alex is awesome. He's overcome seeing his dad's death, foster care, his Mom in prison, and much more.

Alex and Carsten are my favorites in the story.

There is lots of drama, violence, knives, shooting, kidnapping, and they manage a happy ending, with no cliffhanger.

It has some nice heartwarming times, too.

✔ Letto!

Per me è ❤ ❤ ❤ e 💋

I've read a few books by this author and though I've made it through most of them, I found them moderately boring. This one though takes the cake. It is boring with a capital B. I made it to 51% and just couldn't read another page. Sol is distinctly unlikeable. He's an obnoxious snob and other than the author telling us he is, or was Alex's love interest, you would never know by reading the story. Sol thinks too well of himself and his status and too little of everyone else.

Boring!

Another boring book by Aiden Bates I couldn't finish. Can't believe this is the same author I have been reading for the past two years.

I do find it interesting that the majority of the 5 star reviews are followed by the phrase "I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book".

This book board me to tears.

I couldn't finish this book. I found myself skipping chapters. It's almost like it was a bad Lifetime movie with cheesy one liners.
The chapters trust were to long and the POV kept switching mid chapte. Trust me, don't waist your time.

This book was the first book I have read by Aiden Bates and it will not be the last. I loved every minute of this book. At first I had my reservations about this book but once I started to read it I couldn't get enough.

Alex and Sol are dating and have a wonderful life until Sol's overbearing father forces him into a marriage and he breaks it off with Alex. I was so sad to see them broken up then when I read about Sol and his new man I was pissed because let's face it the guy was a douche bag and he did not have Sol's best interest at heart.

Then my poor Alex waiting for Sol to return back to him was so sad. But what had me a little mad at him was he was always doubting himself and that made me mad because Alex is a professional Chef and he has picked himself up and continued on with life.

Then ten years later Sol returns and wants Alex back but Sol comes with a package of his own and Alex just adores his son. But the two of them have so much to work out that it is tough for the both of them. Can they make it or will they crumble and stay that way?

Read for a group challenge. This is the first one I’ve read by this author. I liked the writing style and it was easy to get into, but the story itself was hard and there was a lot of drama. I liked Alex, he had his head on straight and had a good family of choice, even if they were a little crooked. Sol was pretty weak. In regards to Alex, he made demands and played alpha but when given information and advice, he didn’t do anything. It didn’t feel like he dealt with anything properly. If not for Carsten, this couple likely wouldn’t have happened at all. Deals with domestic abuse, murder, attempted murder, miscarriage and generally an ex and his mother being batshit psycho. Favourite character was Jimmy senior, keeping everyone stable, being protective and generally playing the doting grandfather.

Nah

Eh it could have been better. Sol didn't have to do any work to get Alex into bed with him again. None. I do like the slight mob element to the book, is was an interesting read honestly. For all Alex had grown up and matured in the ten years since sol left him to marry another man, all sol had to do was ask a couple of times and Alex claimed into bed.

This book was tragically ridiculous, it was horrible. At some point in my reading (not very far, maybe 20%) I completely stopped to read it seriously. No instead I just read it to see how far the ridiculness could go on, and have a good laugh. And boy, did it go far. I could rant for hours.
The author wanted to include too many things in his book. So many things happened in that first half of the book. YET, it was Boring. How can it be boring with so much stuff happening? Well, let me answer that. The characters are so inconsistent and make absolutely no sense, and Sol is just so unlikable, that by the time you reach the 50% point you. just. don't. care. anymore.
It's a tragedy really, because I really wanted to like it. Like I said the way the characters act, speak and even think make absolutely no sense at times. The little six year old never acts like one. One moment he's playing the "will you be my daddy" cute act and the next he talks like a grown-up. Seriously, sometimes he's more grown-up than his father!
The dialogues are weird. They don't seem to follow a natural course. The answer to a question or a statement was somtimes so off topic that I had to go back to try and make sense of it.
The plot was going in every direction, and like I said I found it hard to care.

Another new series from Aiden Bates, yes please! And it's off to a great start, I really enjoyed the characters and where the story went. Sol wasn't the easiest to love, at first, but as he gets it together he definitely grows on you. Alex is so strong and loveable throughout the entire story but it's adorable Carsten who steals this show! Sol's son is just the sweetest, smartest kid and I just wanted to hug him!

Years ago Alex and Sol were engaged, but Sol's father had a different life planned for him, one that involved marrying the 'right kind' of omega that would profit for them all. So they married and had a child, but Sol's husband Stuart had a major drug problem that put everyone in danger. Sol finally had enough and moved back to New York to try to start over. He doesn't expect to see Alex right away, but when he shows up as his cook it changes things for him. Alex is still angry at Sol, having been abandoned for his status or lack there of. He's got a great job now but he doesn't have the family he always wanted. Immediately bonding with Carsten doesn't really help either, it just makes him think of what could have been. These two still have feelings for each other but it's mixed with anger and pain still and what was supposed to be one night changes their lives. As if that isn't enough of a challenge, as Alex and Sol try to piece their relationship back together, Stuart and his crazy mother are trying to force Sol to get back together with him and take Carsten. No one is safe from their crazy!

This was a fun read, there was always that feeling of 'oh what is going to happen next' that I just loved. These characters have such big personalities, especially as you get to know who Alex's group of friends really are! I liked the relationship between these two, yes they've been hurt and made the wrong choice, but we really do get to see how deep their love is for each other. Sol grows a lot in this story, going from grumpy alpha to loving husband and that made my heart happy! They are definitely tested but really do come together to make a beautiful family. A great start to a new series and I'm excited to more of this group!

Some reunions are easier than others, and ‘The Family We Make’ stars what must be one of the most difficult and traumatic ever. Ten years of forced separation, no matter how much Alex and Sol used to love each other, are not easy to overcome. Especially because Sol gave in to his father pressuring him to marry an “appropriate” omega for purely financial reasons. Alex felt betrayed – and after all the other people leaving him behind I can see why Sol was the last straw. Now that Sol is divorced and Alex runs into him purely coincidentally, they could have had a happy reunion and moved on. But, being the kind of men they are, that is not an option for them. What follows is a suspenseful story full of danger, personal and family drama, and some gut-wrenchingly painful character growth on both sides.

Not really for me. Pretty predictable. Carsten was adorable and I did appreciate everything Sol did try to make him safe. Carsten and Alex were too cute together. With all the main characters I just felt the back story was sort of lacking

The book was well written, as usual, but I could not get over my dislike of Sol. Has anyone yet coined a term like sexist for the belief that alpha are innately superior to omega? because that is Sol. He is also a snob. The book ended fairly quickly after the big drama and there was very little evidence that Sol had really changed. Alex deserves better.

You know,

I don't understand this writer's need to insert this phrase into his characters' dialogue every couple to few pages, and not just one of the characters, but nearly ALL use it at least one or two times in the story. The odds of normal people having the exact same speech mannerisms, being from different backgrounds, she groups, and in some cases another country, is ridiculously low. Yet, Bates does this in every one of his books, allowing no distinctive and individual vernacular into his dialogue. In fact, I'm not sure he even mentions accents! So, while this was one of the most interesting and dramatic storylines he's written, I couldn't help getting caught up in counting the number of "you knows" in the book, pushing the plot into the background. It is entirely too annoying to ignore, and a point of contention with me as I've complained about it so often.. I also take issue with "main character's name" and I at the times correct grammar calls for "me" instead of "I" - in grade school we were taught to see if "I" or "me" fit into the sentence alone or not; all the times "I" is used after "and," it never fits properly into the sentence, which drives me batty! 2.5 stars.

This book is great but I think there are a few missed opportunities: both main characters are flat characters, we could have seen a growth and more insights with their past relationship. Furthermore, I don’t really feel like there’s much chemistry between Sol and Alex. The plot had a lot of interesting things going on, but they all feel kind of rushed.
Lastly, I can’t stand all the juridical inaccuracies. Honestly, I don’t know if the USA juridical systems varies so much from my own country, but here in this book it feels like a joke.

My first impression of Sol is, he is a major bastard. I don't know what kind of mindset he has in that brain of his, but how can you expect someone to get back with you like some kind of side dish after everything that has happened?
His change of behavior is not too subtle either, from asshole to accommodating. Maybe the thing with Alden, Lena, and Stuart make him question himself? Well, that's just my guess.

Lena and Stuart? They play big parts in the story but I can't care less. I don't know what it is in their mind. I don't know and will never know. I wonder what it is that made them push so hard to make Stuart remarriage with Sol. Money, maybe. But isn't they themselves are filthy rich?

And there's so much details left out, like how Lena got the access card to Sol's house and how can Stuart kill the taxi driver and I'm sure there is something untold about Jimmy Junior. Well, maybe in the next book?

Alex is a nice person. He go through so much and still strong. I'm sad for him losing the baby, though. We can't forget Buddy and Jimmy Senior here. Jimmy Senior is kind of like a fairy-god-father in this novel. Like he has this magic crystal to look into and always one step ahead from others, well, except for his own son. For Buddy, I wish I can see the chemistry between him and Staley, even for a little bit. And my mind is still questioning when Sol asked Jimmy Senior if Staley was one of his men. And Senior answered with "Soon" or something like that.

I need to look twice when Sol sold his father's house to Jimmy Senior for twenty five dollars. Like, maybe I missed the word 'thousands' or 'millions' or 'billions'. But nope. It's really twenty five dollars, huh?

And the excerpt... Oh my, I was laughing! "What did you major in at college, man? Pimping?" That's so funny for me! Can’t wait to read the next book!

I love the cover very much by the way ;)

Book One of the Hellion Club omegaverse series (which is available in a box set, so I found out later. Get the box set. It’s cheaper. I’m still not happy about that…)

Oh, the difference between Old Money and New Money… I’d rather deal with New Money any day than the insanity that breeds Old Money with Old Money.

Unlike the Frat Boys Babies series, the connection between this book and its box set mates is the Hellion Club, a gentleman’s club for alphas to meet and greet and discuss business as well as other salacious activities if so desired. But the club serves as a roost for the characters of Book One to operate as needed, making one wonder if there is still a need for something so antiquated and sexist?

I do like how the writer weaves its characters together, and you need to pay attention because many will pop up in subsequent books. You have been warned.

I do like the main characters and how they are developed in this book. Even the side characters are more than just stereotypical. I only wish the darker, more villainous ones weren’t so puppet-like. Other than for the inability to just STOP and walk away, I am still surprised to what extent these bad guys will go. (Okay, there is one real bitchy woman involved here.)

I was able to suspend my disbelief quite well without interruption. There were times I wish certain subplots weren’t so predictable. (Definitely go to Aiden’s website and get the deleted scene that I think should had been included to add to the irony of the situation.) What I am pleased with is that Aiden capitalized on his mpreg premise so that I wasn’t left with the feeling that I had read this plot line before, but it was in a straight romance novel.

Oh! And it WAS a novel! Not a quick-read novella. I felt… full. (There is a punchline embedded somewhere there…)

I have reread this story once and am in the middle of my second reread, so that says something.

This seems to be a book you love or hate.

I enjoyed this book as it had some of my favourite tropes; long lost lovers, family pressure and expectations and a criminal element. As well as the non-shifter alpha/ omega mpreg set up.
Although from opposite ends of the social scales neither Alex or Sol have had what could be called ' normal upbringing'. Which means like for all of us that we don't always act in our own best interests as we are either always trying to please others or can be too afraid to ask or take what we need. It also means we cannot always enjoy the good moments as we are waiting for sword of Damocles to drop. This is a key driver in the story and gives power to the machinations of others. However, there were some loveable supportive characters to help Alex and Sol through and some true villains you could boo at too. I loved Buddy. Also, don't forget the cute kids.

I understand that for some readers they felt Alex should have made Sol work harder to recapture his heart but I would argue with maturity comes not playing games in relationships.

Overall I gave the book a 4. Why drop a point? I just felt the storyline had a couple of over convoluted elements. However, I give the audiobook 4.5 for I am new to Blake Moresby and would willingly listen to him again, he is able to run the gamut of emotions and make the characters discrete. I felt all sort of emotions from joy, sympathy, amusement, anger, frustration, fear and excitement. This is where a good tale should take you; so that you can be in the moment.

This is a series I want to continue with.

This is the first book in the Helion Club series.

Ten years after having his heart broken by his fiance, Alex Cary finds the strength to move forward. He never had any family and only had himself to rely on. Alex has a successful career as a home chef and is content with his life. He no longer trusts any Alpha, which leaves no room for romance or love.

Alpha Sol Delaney comes back to New York after an ugly divorce to raise his son. He also another reason to come home...he wants Alex, his Omega back. He made the mistake of leaving him ten years ago because he was forced to marry someone else because of his father. Now that he is no longer reliant on his father's money, he hopes to get back the one thing he regrets leaving behind.

There are people who do not wish to see Sol and Alex together and those people would do anything to make sure that does not happen.

This is a great start to a new series. Sol and Alex made for good characters. Their history together made for a heartbreaking read but at the same time it helped me understand these two so much better. Love like their's is a beautiful thing to read. The love that Alex had for Sol's son, Carsten, warmed my heart. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

The way I want to bash Sol's head...

So.... Sol is an A-hole. like bro broke his engagement to Alex via an email because his father blackmailed him to pull his funds and married a drug addict. and if that wasnt some a-hole move he had the audacity to suggest his ex-fiance to be his side piece. Like dude, wtf! After 10 yrs he had a kid and divorced his husband because of drug issues and start trying win over his Alex (ex). All the while he rants about the negatives (according to him) about said omega. About how Alex is a middle class omega without education and connections and about how independent he is.

he talks about how he waited for 10 years to meet Alex, but the moment they meet he starts to discipline Alex. and then he starts to woo him and when Alex questions about his intentions (publicize their relation since they're from different class and having a family and everything) Sol suggest they become fuck buddies because he doesnt want to be seen with Alex. Again wtf!!!

And when Alex got the oppurtunity to became a TV star, Sol was like 'how can he get that chance?? He is from low class? Valor (company sponsoring the show) should help other idols who is from upper class not lower class.'

I'm not sure what to say. Is this how youre supposed to show your eternal love (Sol's says so) to your love of life?

While I enjoyed this book -- I always have fun reading Aiden Bates' books - this particular one was a little more difficult for me to sink into and stick with. I really liked Alex's character. He was very humble, down to earth, kind, successful, nurturing, comfortable in his own skin, and had his ducks in a row. His people were also likeable - Buddy, Jimmy Senior, even Maya. The comic relief came from Carsten, and I chuckled several times. I had a harder time with Sol. While he did some redeeming things throughout the story and was a commendable father to Carsten, I found his continued self absorption for most of the book to be at odds with what was clearly the book's goal - to establish Sol as a guy worthy of a second chance with Alex. Sol's ex and the ex's mother-in-law were pieces of work -- and while that was to be expected from the antagonists based on the book's blurb, they felt a bit too sinister at times to be consistent with the feel of the majority of the book. Still, I wouldn't discourage anyone from reading this book -- there are still a lot of loving, heartwarming, and healing parts to it.

I quite enjoyed Alex. Sol, not so much. Sol goes from determined to make Alex his again, to being worried about being seen in public with him, then all in again. He was a bit too wishy-washy for my taste. Carsten's speech seemed a little inconsistent to me - he went from speaking how you would expect a six year old to speak in one sentence, and then in the next he is stringing together vocabulary that sounds weird coming out a young child. Then there is the drama. This book was pretty dramatic, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, when the whole book is full of dramatics, if you wanna write a climax, it's going to be over the top. And that's what this was, waaaay too much going on. On the editing end, I did spot a few typos, but nothing major. This is the first book from Aiden Bates I've read, and while the plot and most of the characters were nothing to write home about, I did really enjoy his actual writing style. I'm going to check out the rest of this series and hope for a little more from Aiden's alphas from here on out.

I am fast becoming a big fan of Aiden Bates. I love the depth of the supporting characters and storyline. I feel the romance took a bit of a back seat in this story which wasn't exactly a bad thing. It kind of makes sense since the romance originally started ten years prior to the story.

On a personal note, this was a bit of an eerie read for me due to timing on my part. I actually started reading this on April 10, the day after the anniversary of my father's death. The weirdness was that his name was Jimmy and my mom is named Pauline. The minute I read the line about "Pauline and Jimmy" in the beginning of chapter three I freaked out. Even though these characters are fictional, "Pauline" was a rare enough name for my mom's generation let alone the age range of these characters. Also, while my father was never physically abusive like the fictional Jimmy, he was an alcoholic and could ne mentally and emotionally abusive. Needless to say, this side story hit really close to home for me.
