'Buddho' means 'One who is awakened to the Truth'. After the Buddha's enlightenment, then due to the power of His Great Compassion, rather than dwelling alone in the bliss of liberation, He went forth with loving kindness to teach the multitude, beginning with Venerable Añña Kondañña, the first of the Savaka Sangha. This realisation and transmission of the Dhamma continues through our teacher and guide in the practice, Venerable Ajahn Chah, right into the present. I believe that if we diligently apply ourselves to his teachings, then peace and happiness will arise in our lives.
As a newcomer to understanding buddhism this book provided a decent overview of the buddhist principles and the logic of buddhism. It was written clearly and simply and I enjoyed the straight forwardness of the writing style. Towards the end of the book the writer recounts his experiences meditating and attaining enlightenment which was interesting but a little repetetive.
Overall, a good introduction to buddhism but I think there is probably more thorough and more well written books on the subject.
