Waking the Dragons #3

Alpha Deceived

Rate this book
After thousands of years, they’re back…

Proud dragon warrior and healer Sana has a secret… one that may forever turn his friends against him, and one that he’ll do anything to keep. He’s worked too hard to keep who he truly is from the world, and he refuses to let the charade drop, even after waking up thousands of years in the future. But when Peter walks into his life and wakes his heartsong, he knows it’s a secret he won’t be able to hide much longer. With his muscular body and incredible strength, Sana is decidedly alpha in appearance, but Peter is no omega, and that means…

Human lie detector and reformed dragon hunter Peter will stop at nothing to figure out why there’s music in his heart whenever Sana is around… and why that music makes him feel like he’s known Sana his whole life. Peter’s been with other alphas, but the way Sana makes him feel is unlike anything he’s experienced before. But as his attraction to Sana builds at breakneck speeds, so too does the danger they face. The Master Guardian is still on the loose, and the hunters are still under his control… and as a former hunter, Peter may be the key to taking them down.

Can fated mates still so new in their relationship survive the perils of the Hunters’ Guild and rise victorious? Buckle up and let our dragons take you on a ride you’ll never forget… straight into the Alpine Compound, and the dangers therein.

Alpha Deceived is the third book in the Waking the Dragons series and features men as hot as dragonfire, a life-changing secret, a prehistoric version of a certain laundry pod challenge, and a HEA just as legendary as the dragons in it. This 52k book contains mpreg and is 18+ only… did you really expect anything less from Susi Hawke and Piper Scott?

I'm a total fan of M/PREG Paranormal Romances, first and foremost as a reader. I'm excited to share my own omegaverse(s) with you. What's not to love about adorable Omegas and the Alpha men who love them? If I'm not writing about men sporting baby bumps, I'm definitely reading about them!

I'm a native of Las Vegas, NV, so I'm pre-wired to love everything weird ~ although I don't find any kind of love to be weird. I'm a cis woman who's been happily married to the same lovable lug for 18 years. We have a 16yr old son, well, at least I think we do? Either that, or we have a ghost that eats all our food and uses up all wifi playing xbox while screaming into a headset.

As a new author, it's been amazing to find the amount of support that I've been given from readers and my fellow authors. Feel free to message me, I love to chat with fellow readers. Am I a reader? Heck yeah! In fact, I'm never certain that I can completely trust an author who isn't a fellow bibliophile.

I will try to update here when I'm doing promotional parties & chats. I usually do those on Facebook. If you haven't already signed up for my newsletter, you should totally do it! I only send out NL's to announce new releases or important announcements. I also like to note in my NL what I'm currently reading along with a cover shot and the link for anyone who is interested.

I look forward to interacting with everyone here!

Well, this book had all kinds of twists to it I did not see coming…

I have to say that book two is still my favorite and might just stay that way, but I really did like this addition to the series too. This whole series has been fantastic so far, made even better by the Audio narration we get from Colin Darcy. He just puts so much obvious effort into giving us a performance and not just a basic narration for each of these books its really astounding. We get such a wide range of voices from him each and every time I am seriously impressed by each audiobook I’ve heard from him so far.

Sana is one of the “Alpha Dragon warriors” who finally meets his Heartsong in Peter (Sam’s brother we meet in book 2) Sana does everything he can to keep from getting close to Peter. He tries to keep from forming a bond and pushes his mate away for a lot of this book. My heart really hurt right along with Peter, feeling like he wasn’t good enough for Sana to be with. I just didn’t understand where Sana was coming from and it made me kind of dislike him. I am #TeamPeter all the way. Then getting into the twists in this book, the “villain”… I mean we all kind of saw that coming, finding out who he is. But the things he did to these two, Peter and Sana and the other omega that they find who’s been held hostage are really horrible things. I don’t understand how he could do those things and think the way he does when he himself was a dragon, and to have duped them all this whole time, for dozens of years just sounds crazy to me. I’m glad that in the end Sana realized that he could be open and honest with his friends about who he really is inside without any ramifications and blowback on him, Peter and their baby. This book had a ton of action packed into it, we are really getting to the heart of the overall storyline with this one and learning a lot more about the Hunters Guild. This book was great. I really enjoy everything about this series.

I LOVED this one! Might be my favorite of the series so far (although I think the 4th book is gonna be pretty epic too!). I loved the differences in this one - Sana is actually an omega, although he kept it hidden from everyone for years - only Cory, the dragon prince, knows the truth. Peter, who we met last book when he left the dragon hunters, is an alpha and they discover that they are mates.

I really loved the overall progression of the story here - they went after the dragon hunters in an attempt to rescue an omega held captive and to destroy their base, and they discover what happened to their 5th member who was frozen in stasis along with them. I will be honest, I wasn't too surprised by what happened, but I love the twist.

I can't wait to see how the 4th book brings everything to a conclusion. I can't wait for Brick and the omega dragon they rescued to have their story!

Weeeellll...this was my least favorite so far. I think I like the Alpha/Omega dynamics a certain way and this did not present it that way.

On to the next which I think will be the kind of Alpha and Omega that is more my cup of tea.

Always meant to get back to this series. A quick read and a good bit of escapism still. One book left and hopefully Orris meets a sticky end.

I looooved the scenario of Sana being a secret omega. I was kind of disappointed that they dealt with the matter so quickly, but then I realized it was necessary so there was time for plot to happen. And boy was it interesting plot. I loved Peter and their give/take relationship. Nice change from the usual omega-assume-the-position deal.

Alpha Deceived, book 3 in the new Waking the Dragons series by Piper Scott and Suzi Hawkes continues a few months after the birth of Sam and Blaze’s twins. Much has happened since book 2, including a massive expansion to Sam’s family with the reappearance of his older brother the skilled dragon hunter Peter and their nana Gertie.

This installment sees dragon warrior and cousin to Crown Prince Cory, Sana, warrior/healer and Peter, Sam’s long lost older brother and reformed dragon hunter, get together.

Peter, has left the Dragon Hunters and has been brought into Crown Prince Cory of Novis’s dragon stronghold, as a human lie detector he’s a valuable member of their small band of warriors. In the months since reconnecting with Sam, much has changed for Peter, he’s finally found out that he is a dormant Alpha Dragon and can detect untruths, and his heart now sings for Sana, the Alpha warrior who is hiding a massive secret.

Sana always betlived he’d be alone, until he meets Peter and his heartsong sings for his fated mate. Sana is torn about the discovery, on one hand it’s what he secretly always wanted, and on the other, it’s his worst nightmare. After all an omega cannot be Royal warrior.

this installment sees our diverse Dragconian gang still fighting the Dragon Hunters and looking for Orris, who is still unaccounted for, while Sana and Peter navigate their new relationship. Behind closed doors Sana agrees and admits he and Peter are fated mates when they both hear the heartsong, but admitting who they are to each other is not as simple as it should be.

I liked the plot in this installment a lot, it dealt with bigotry on top on the ongoing war between the dragons and the dragon hunters. Much badness is revealed in this story and I really am liking the series so far. I’m still wrapping my head around the whole MPREG thing and insta-love dynamic that the men have with the heartsong and paranormal shifter racial thing, but as it’s a significant plot theme it’s not without its own ups and downs, which I thought helped make it less contrived and more action packed and emotionally drama ridden. I thought it definitely helped the plot as did the dragon fight scenes, something we’ve come to expect from this series as our Heroes take on the baddies. The violence this time around was taken up another notch and I thought it was fabulous, creative and perect.

Piper Scott and Suzi Hawke are a great duo for shifter romance and as a new convert to their co-written work, I have to say for this genre, it’s been a great series. One book left to go, Brick the last unmated warrior whose fated mate is the white omega dragon, and yeah, I admit it, I’m looking forward to what’s coming next,

The power of choice

A new flip in the dynamic where this time the dragon who knows about mates and the heartsong tries to deny his. It turns out Sana is an omega, but while he may want a family he never wanted to be relegated to the home. He wanted to be a warrior and so posed as an alpha, worked hard to be among them. When Peter turns out to be his heartsong that is all destined to come crashing down as Sana is confident that as soon as his omega nature is revealed he will be reviled by his former compatriots. Sana sets out to do all he can to protect the king before this inevitably happens.

The biggest missed plot point to this seems to be Blaze's ability. Blaze was able to glean any secret or know thought through touch. He must have touched Sana at some point over the years. Yet, Blaze is supposed to have no idea Sana is actually an omega? This seemed odd after how efficient Blaze showed his powers to be in the first book.

Blaze and Peter have a bit of a rocky relationship. First, there is the point of being forced to show being an omega. Then there is the possessive protectiveness, with Peter wanting to keep Sana safe. The two seem to clash as often as they fit together, but they work things out as they go along.

The mastermind baddy is revealed in this book and it is the obvious choice. The fun part is that they themselves say it is obvious and theren is a thorough exploration into plans and concerns. The introduction of a final new character beings the little ring of family to a close and should have things wrapped up in the next book. Looking forward to seeing how it all ends up!

I absolutely love this series. The dragons are awesome and the way this series is written is wonderful. The heartsong between the dragons is definitely a new way to describe a fated mate and I felt that it was well done. Sana and Peter's story was a little different from the other ones in this series. The thoughts that Sana battles with about his status can be so easily compared to how some men in modern times feel about being gay, femme, or just different from what they are expected to be, which I guess could go for just about anyone, not just men. I like that the authors gave this angle a part in the series. It was like when you see an important lesson being taught in a child's story, it's there but it's just enough under the surface. Peter's absolute support of Sana and the way he is patient with him until he is ready to deal with things in his own way is awesome. Sometimes in a series you feel like you are reading the same story over and over but with a different set of MCs but this series didn't make me feel like that because the underlying story was carried from book to book. I hope these two authors co-write again because they do very well with their story telling.

Colin Darcy's narration is spot on, the voices are all very distinct throughout the series. In each book I knew exactly who was talking at all times because he carried the voices throughout the entire thing.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the connection between Sana and Peter, even though they were constantly fighting for dominance but they it really worked for them. Man, the lengths Sana went too be able to be a dragon-warrior it was really crazy but I don’t blame him considering the backwards timeframe they were originally from. His achievements were that much more amazing considering all the work he had to go through to build up his body strength to that of an alpha. Peter only had one major uber-alpha moment when he was trying to keep Sana out of battle as he didn’t want him hurt but Sana definitely found a way to change Peter’s mind. Sana and Peter were both amazing warriors and really bad a*se. I loved how proud of each other’s accomplishments they were. Man, Blaze’s jokes about them both being alphas were bloody funny especially when Cory was trying so hard to not laugh as he knew the truth about Sana. I’m looking forward to Brick’s story next especially after reading the epilogue and I really want to know what happens with Orris and the Hunters’. I’d recommend this book, series and both authors to everyone.

Wow. This series is really getting better. I am loving the story line all around. Sana has been a strong, relatively silent force in the books, and we really get to know him well in Alpha Deceived. I loved the twist this book took with Sana and his background. I loved reading about his struggles of the dragon version of prejudice and "coming out" (but not with sexuality). I really liked Peter. He was level headed and a great match for Sana. I totally guessed who the bad guy was back in book 1, and now I know I was right. I can't wait to see how all of the guys save the world from the big old bad guy.

For the audio version, it is much like the others in that the narrator did a great job differentiating the voices and making them sound 1000 years old and from a different time. I do feel like sometimes the dialogue was a bit hokey, and reading it would have made it less so. I did enjoy the audio version overall, though.

This book was full of action and excitement. Babies and puppies. Very special women who were instrumental in helping the Dragons, their mates, as well as their little ones.

Once again the fragrant Unicorns were a part of the storyline. Targeting the Dragon Hunters to decimate their lairs led to a destructive, entertaining bloody battle that crowds cheered. Healer Sana's skills as a selected Warrior for the Dragon King, Cory lead to deceit, fear, and keeping secrets that truly needed to be revealed.

There were some very startling truths that came out along with a great deal of violence. New Dragons, astounding powers, and sudden fatherhood. I can't wait to read the final book in this series. At the same time I've been enjoying it so much I'm not ready for it to end.

Good dragons against bad dragon

This is a great addition to the series with so much action, new discoveries, betrayal, growing dragon gifts and new found fated mates. This is not a simple story but one of great complexity introducing Peter, foster brother of Sam's childhood and a member of the Hunters Guild. Peter thought he was doing good until he realized what the hunters were actually doing and changed sides. He is an alpha US army veteran and just the man needed by our dragon warriors plus he is Sana's mate. Sana doesn't want Peter because he is living a lie and wants to keep his secret. Read this well written story and find lots of secrets, courage and steamy love.

The plot of the overarching storyline reveals more.
Sana and Peter discover the heartsong to the other. Seemingly opposites they are attracted and through the song. Sana reveals a well kept secret. The spevial abilities
They join the others of their band of dragons and newly discovered mates in their quest/ fight to roll up Peter his former hunter group & the Master Guardian. Their abilitirs are helpgul, but can they save them as well?
There are unexpected turns and not so great things discoveredthat have been done to them. Now on to the final book in the series.
I have read and this series multiple times and still enjoy it very much. 4,5*

Audiobook
The narration is as good as in the earlier books in this series. The narrator stays consistent and I am here for it. 5*

Overall 4,75*

I love how the story is progressing so far. The powers each Dragon has is essential to each story that I'm ready for next book the see Brick's power in action.

Peter and Sana are two Alpha males even though Sana was omega born. Sana has done everything he could to hide but you can't when you find your heartsong. Peter knows that Sana is his but the Dragon warrior is fighting because it would mean that he deceived his brother-in-arms. Peter helps his heart song understand that his family will understand and still love him no matter what.

I'm loving this collaboration, I hope they have other projects together.

Another complicated and fascinating tale

There is so much story in this book that I feel overwhelmed at the end. And it's so good! Can't wait to start book 4... And when things happen that you would assume would expose the dragons to the humans, the writers have a reasonable answer for that also. This omegaverse is getting more crowded as the books go on and I imagine the dragons and their mates might be able to set up a small city by the time they're finished "birthin' babies". If you've been enjoying the first two books, you need to get book 3 (and probably 4) so you can see the resolution. Such fun!

Although it took me a while to finally get through the entirety of this book, I did really enjoy it! It definitely is my least favorite of the series so far, simply because a lot of the time it felt like things were just dragging on. I did like the romance, though and the steamy scenes were gr8, as always.
I will say, I totally saw the big plot twist towards the end coming in like book one, so it wasn't very surprising or much of a plot twist for me. I also guessed who Brick's mate was going to turn out to be, but I don't think that was really meant to be a surprise considering how obvious it was.
Still, I really enjoy this series and can't wait to see where things go in the final book!

So the whole time Sana was worried about how everyone would treat him as an omega and I couldn't help but laugh. I mean how many times has he touched/licked Blaze. Are you telling me that Blaze didn't read Sana's secret? I was half expecting him to be like "Bro I've known for 10,000 years" but alas. I loved Peter's character and I totally agree with his advisor theory. Like I knew as soon as he escaped in the first book. Anyway the mind control thing was super interesting and I can't wait for brick and the new omegas story!!!

I am giving this book 3.5 stars. I liked Sana well energy, but didn’t really connect with his character very well. I liked Peter as well, but would have liked more background on him. How he felt about his parents dying, more about his time in the military and thinking Sam was dead and not knowing where he was when he found out he hadn’t died. This book was focused primarily on plot, so it had very little in terms of character development. I liked the plot, but I would have liked to have more character as well.

Interesting developments

So I had already figured out some parts of this story from clues in the first two books, but the rest I hadn’t expected and I loved. I wasn’t thrilled at first with now fast Sana and Peter get together, but I enjoyed their relationship and how they tried to take things on stride. I can’t wait to read the last book because each book does get better as the story unfolds.

Book 3 Waking dragons series

Another fun entry in this series. As always I love dragons and fated mates.
Sana and Peters story was delivered with gritty yet lighthearted dragon fun. Sana’s unexpected revelation as omega was almost anticlimactic.
And I had sort of guessed the villain reveal ahead of time.
Although there was angst, it was mild and no triggers.
I will read the next although I am Not a fan of age gap.

This was my least favorite one so far. I love Sana, but everything in this happened wicked fast, almost too fast for me to keep track. I'm still not sure what happened to his wings. And the last couple chapters were basically the best part, but it took awhile to get there. Overall, the "big reveal" was something I had already guessed by the end of book one, Blaze is still annoying, and we got a new team member. Very interested in the last book though, so we'll see.

After marking book 2 of this series as DNF I was hesitant to buy this one but couldn't help myself since I read everything Susi Hawke releases. This one was great, loved the character's and the story.

Enjoying the fact a new instalment is released every Monday. Looking forward to book number 4, Brick's story and the final instalment.

Dragons will they ever be free of unicorns?

I love the dialogue. External and internal. The slow roll out of the plot has been just right. You have me antsy for the next bit. To see the dragon's future be the happiness they desire or is it war that they were fighting before stasis?

Lovely

I must say this was my favorite in the series so far. It was fast paced and action filled. The plot continues to develop stronger with each book. Some answers were provided and now they must plan carefully for their next move. Really liked Sana and Peter, both very strong warriors willing to do what's necessary. Now will patiently wait for the next one!!

This series is not one of my favorites from this author. I find that the risks these warriors are taking are not well planned and they tend to set my teeth on edge.

It's interesting and I like the characters, but we don't have time to really get to know them as they are often rushing from one danger to another.

4.5 really... I KNEW IT!!!! I totally thought so! I was all, come on...it's in the name!!! Right?!?!?! Plus the clues they have been giving. But I didn't want to hope I was right because I am not good at guessing who the baddie is, lol.

One more book to go on this series, exciting! I will definitely continue on!
