Batman chases down a bank robber that has gotten his hands on the contents of Bruce Wayne’s secret safe deposit box. This could be the secret that reveals everything to the world!
This issue ends the “New 52″ run of Batman and allows Tynion to add a small reflection on Bruce’s journey to become the bat. This is a fairly simple story of Batman chasing a villain with Flashbacks to the years he spent training and attempting to put his parents’ deaths behind him. But more than that, we get a tiny glimpse into Alfred’s contribution to Bruce’s upbringing. A sweet story intended to fill in the numbers to get to issue 52.
I didn’t know what to expect from Rossmo’s work here. I was familiar with his style from the pages of Constantine, but wasn’t sure I’d like it on Batman. I was quite surprised by what I saw. The figures, particularly Batman, aren’t quite as lanky and stylized as I’ve seen previously - in fact, I actually liked the fairly realistic and finely detailed portrayal of the Dark Knight. Rossmo’s style fits perfectly for the villain, Crypsis, someone who’s very lean and gangley.
Not my favorite Batman story ever, but a solid read that kept me entertained throughout.
