The story of Forest and Sicily is intriguing and make for an interesting thriller. With their paths crossing on such unexpected levels I was truly wondering what was going to happen next. I did get a little confused with the past and present jumping. There were a lot of characters for me to keep up with.
The topic is timely and the subject felt very real to me. There were tense moments all through the story they made you keep pushing forward.

Audiobook Review

I won this audiobook as part of a giveaway. This was a first time read by this author September Williams.

I thought the novel was well-written, however the narration was a bit too slow and dragging. I was tempted to DNF but continued. After continuing, it was just a nice read for me.

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is a gripping narrative about a young woman by the name of Sicily and a young man by the name of Forest. Their relationship begins at the Montréal airport. In addition to their beginning journey starting from Québec Canada, their destination is the same as well. They will be attending a World Youth Festival in Berlin Germany.

In addition, to their travel and destination similarities, they both find that they are artistically talented. She is a ballerina and he also is a dancer as he performs Powwow Men's Fancy Dance. Added to their commonalities are that both individuals are activists in the purest sense of the term. That being not only do they see the destructive actions of various entities on minority groups, the impoverished and the environment, but they endeavor to do something about it.

Not surprisingly they begin to have an attraction to each other and eventually this attraction leads to romance. A significant twist to the story takes place in a Swiss bank when Forrest opens a bank account utilizing a considerable amount of money and names Sicily as an account holder.

Without giving away the plot, it is explained to the reader that the element of Mercury is significant in the processing of gold. However, Mercury, used in this way, can be a significant pollutant of earth's natural resources and food supply. Additionally, in Greek mythology, Mercury is the God of messages, commerce and travelers and Sicily acknowledges the influence of Mercury in her life.

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is a fascinating and eye-opening read as it guides the narrative through many decades of social injustices, prejudice, negative environmental actions, but above all is love story on so many levels.

It is especially a love story between a ballet dancer and an investigative reporter and whistleblower; a dangerous combination that may lead to no good when he goes missing.

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is the start of a series that I have no doubt will be just as thrilling as the first. Although it is a romance suspense saga there is so much more to it.

As the reader begins the journey we meet Sicily a young women that is a talented ballerina, the other is Forest also a dancer but instead of ballet he specialises in Powwow Men's dance. The pair are both travelling to Berlin to perform there in the World Youth Festival of dance but meet in Montreal airport. As they proceed together on their journey the pair learn about each other. Crossing the globe they discover that not only are they similar in artistic talent, views but in their beliefs to make the world a little better. There is another connection blossoming between them that leads to romance. However Forest opens a Swiss Bank account in Sicily's name full of a large amount of cash, not explaining his true reason behind it. The twist is Forest disappears and Sicily has no clues to go on.

The way it ends leads the reader on to waiting patiently for the next instalment in this romance suspense saga. A great job looking forward to the next!

What do you get when two strangers, Sicily and Forest, both of whom are dancers who are heading to Berlin to perform, met in the Montreal Airport and when they’re in Zurich for a considerable layover the guy deposits a vast amount of funds into his Swiss bank account, adding Sicily’s name without her knowledge, and then mysteriously vanishes?

Besides the above similarities between these kismet type individuals, they’re both deeply committed activists for poverty related and environmental causes despite the overwhelming odds they’re forced to endure in order to do something about them. The driving cause in this story is related to an element which is a major contaminant of the world’s natural assets and food sources.

The storyline is one which includes through its narrative touches upon a myriad of things wrong with the world, such as social inequalities, biases, destructive ecological actions done by others. There’s a romance brewing between the its two protagonists, a romance between a dedicated ballet dancer and a whistleblowing fact-finding reporter, a romantic arrangement which is filled with danger and intrigue especially when Forester is nowhere to be found.

Just when the intrigue of the storyline is getting extremely captivating the story ends in a cliffhanger, leaving its readers eagerly waiting to read the next installment of this three-book epic. For giving her readers a well-written story, which does this, I’ve given Ms. Williams 5 STARS.

Chasing Mercury is a unique, heartwarming story that intertwines romance, family, community and social and environmental factors seamlessly. There are also aspects of mystery and suspense that keep the plot fresh and unpredictable. On top of that, add the author’s incorporation of the benefits and damage provided by elemental mercury, and you have a truly original concept. Author September Williams captures the reader with an easy to read story that weaves the different concepts in and out so the reader is captivated. Also incorporated are scientific and historical facts as related to mercury, historical events, and the beginnings of social justice. There are so many different angles to this story, I found it captivating and informative, as well as romantic and mysterious. As far as romance novels go, this one has way more action and suspense, and the romance isn’t necessarily the focus of the book, which I appreciated – I think it makes it more of a true life story.

A love explored across the world

Author September Williams does an amazing job of story telling. This story is of Forrest and Sicily. A young couple who meet in the Montreal airport. They are both traveling to Berlin and learn about each other as they traverse the globe making their way to the performance in Berlin. While in route Forrest opens a bank account and puts Sicily name on it and then he vanishes. The story is a romantic suspense that explores your deepest emotions and pulls you headlong into the journey which Sicily is on. Great characters and incredible story telling skills. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. A fun easy read with an easy to follow and attention catching story.

Chasing Mercury is as much about the life of Ellie as it is about her daughter, Sicily Marshall. Sicily is separate from her fellow dancers on her way to Germany when she meets Forest. He is a dancer also, representing the First Nation, or as many of us would refer to as Native American. This book delivers adventure, soul-searching, young love, and danger as Forest seeks answers. Sicily accompanies him on his quest and challenges him with her own knowledge. All this, in a time when minorities still struggled with segregation.

Forest first meets Ellie at a party and she suggests he researches the effects of mercury in the water systems, food, and in the blood of people living around polluted water ways. Little is known about mercury at this time and Forest may have forfeited some of him principles unknowingly and wishes to amend the damage he caused to his people.

This book had me on my seat until the end! The plot is very different from anything I have ever read. The two main characters met in an airport and their flight is delayed. Both are dancers, she (Sicily) a ballerina, and he (Forest) a Powwow men's dancer have common interests and a spark of love ignites. The story takes some surprising twists, especially when Forest put Sicily's name on a bank account with a rather large sum of money in it and then vanishes. The story dances between past and present, and at first it confused me but once you figure that aspect out, its a remarkable suspense love story from there.

Chasing Mercury is a story of love, activism and perseverance. We first meet Sicily as she is traveling to an international dance conference. She quickly falls in love with Forest, a young Native American who is way more than he originally seems. The mystery surrounding him deepens when she finds he has some importance to the movement that her parents have been working on. The characters are well developed but not exactly relatable. She meets several different people like Rainy, Moni and Pilot that are highly intelligent and also draw her into the movement.

The story pace is evenly paced and I felt like the author's writing style was unique in the way it brought the social struggle to life. I felt like Sicily was the type of person most people admire for her beauty, talent and her quick wit. It surprising to me how in this time period how strong the prejudice was as well as the lengths the government went to help cover up the effects of mercury poisoning. I would say the only thing I didn't like was the flipping to 1st person because I felt like it would have flowed better in 3rd in describing Sicily's early years.

Chasing Mercury by September Williams is an interesting yet environmental tale. Romance, mystery, and intrigue are woven onto these pages. Both protagonists share some commonalities but there's still that gapping hole where trust seems to sink away...

September Williams can indeed write well. The story caught my attention and held it until the end. I was left wondering what's next in this series. Poor, underprivileged, and a minority, these characters make the pages turn. Leading from sweet to dangerous situations, readers like myself will be hooked. Overall, it was very good.

Easiest 5 star book I've ever read

Chasing Mercury is a smooth mix of erotic romance, adventure and suspense. Following Sicily and Foster from when they meet to a youth gathering where they are both dancing. Sicily is a tall black ballet dancer and Foster is an Indian who does powwow dancing. Things get really interesting when Foster opens an savings account and puts Sicilys name on it. I really couldn’t put this book down, it started out a little slow with mostly dialogue between Sicily and Foster but it stayed interesting while they told each other about their history and how they came to be who they are. September Williams really did an amazing job building her characters, both Sicily and Foster are strong and ambitious young people I thoroughly enjoyed traveling with! I also enjoyed the educational aspect to learn about Mercury, what it’s used for and it’s affects on the earth.

This romance/suspense novel by September Williams features a unique story. It tells of Sicily and Forest, a ballerina and a Powwow dancer, who meet at an airport in 1973. They are both supposed to fly to Berlin to perform at a special event. As they take their journey to get to Berlin, they eventually fall in love. However, Forest ends up doing something Sicily isn’t prepared for. He puts a large amount of money into his bank account with her name and then disappears. It’s up to Sicily to figure out why he did it and where he went.
This novel is a creative mix of romance and suspense. The beginning of the book will instantly catch your attention and it’s well-written so the story will keep you constantly flipping through its 333 pages to learn what happens next. It also incorporates a great environmental theme into the story. If you’re looking for a creative read, definitely check this book out.

September Williams brings us Chasing Mercury, the first in The Chasing Mercury Toxic Trilogy. The write up speaks of Swiss bank accounts, the Cold War, and love in the time of mercury poisoning. I was intrigued from the start.

The main characters, Sicily and Forest are young, idealistic dancers from radically different backgrounds. Their developing romance intertwined with world events, cultural differences, and all of the things that could possibly complicate even the most solid relationship makes Chasing Mercury the novel that it is. Beyond romance, readers will be catapulted head long into this world of suspense through international settings and a fast paced plot that really never lets up.

I think that the underlying themes in this book should be highlighted because that is what would really push me to suggest this book to a friend. Romance is all good but environmental issues, social injustice, corruption, and activism are the real pull and the star of Chasing Mercury, in my opinion.

A romantic novel filled with suspense, adventure and let the reader wondering about the next one from the author. I would say a thoughtful approach and story by author to let readers cling on to his writing and anxiously wait for another suspense journey.
The story is the journey of two young people Sicily a young woman, a talented ballerina, the other is Forest, a dancer who met at Montreal airport on their way to the Berlin Youth festival and find that both have much in common and want to make the world a better place to live. But then a sudden disappearance of Forest after he open’s a bank account with Sicily creates suspense and let Sicily wonder and go through her emotional ride. A fun, attractive and catch your attention, emotional story!

I bought this book because I met the author and being an author, myself, I wanted to support her. I expected to like the book and write a mild, non-committal review. Boy, was I wrong! September Williams has written a terrific book! Not only did I enjoy the storyline and the characters, but also, I loved the way she captured the feeling of the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s, especially for Native Americans and People of Color. Read this book and you’ll be entertained as you learn something about the environmental struggles as well as the racial struggles of that time, which sadly, continue today.

This book is worth your time! I’m looking forward to the sequel.

As a lover of arts, travel, romance, and suspense, this novel certainly delivers. With an exceptional and unusual setup, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters together, although I did have a bit of trouble keeping up with the past and present. Yes, this is a love story, but not in the conventional sense. And its themes go way beyond those of love. Racial prejudices, economic and environmental issues are also relevant. A very interesting story worth a read.

There is so much that I can relate to in this book, both on a relational and personal level. Besides the fact that I also have seizures, and understand how troublesome an issue that can be to relate to others, I love reading a story about a pair who meet so randomly with a great deal in common. The historical tales as well, are so wonderfully touching as a woman battling the issues of family and the rest of the world. I can't wait to see the next two of this series!

This is truly a lovely book, very enjoyable novel that combines romance and mystery and does it through a bond of relatable and well developed characters.
Sicily and Forest are two young, talented dancers with lots in common. They meet in an airport, discover that they share many interests and goals and gradually fall in love with each other. That is the romantic part that develops in a pleasant pace as we come to know our characters a little better and connect with them. It would be perfectly fine if the author stuck with that plot and make this novel just a pure romance, but she also added a little flavor to the whole thing. Forest deposits a bunch of money in a bank account in Sicily's name with no explanation and that is where it becomes much more interesting.
I can't say that I am blown away with this novel, but it has a lot going for it. Plot is interesting and it becomes more interesting as it progresses, characters are very good and the book is easy to read, I like the writing style very much. It just misses something for me to be a five star book, I can't put my finger on it, but maybe it is just me. However, I can recommend it, it has a pretty much universal appeal and very few readers would be disappointed, I think.

An absolutely amazing book. I don’t remember waffling less to give a five-star rating. The book has everything that I want from a book. It pecked on my mind constantly. The super-intelligent dialogue has a strong pace, and the fact that it is written in present tense makes it palpable, exciting and nurturing. The author works with exquisite character shaping to make you fall in love with them, not in a romantic way, but in an inquisitive and friendly reader’s way. Just like a book needs to do it, titillating, attracting and hugging slowly until one is totally overwhelmed - in the good sense of the word. Both Sicily and Foster are strong leads, young, smart, energetic, ambitious and wayward. With integrity. No mush. I am never in loss of awe of the effort and the persistence it takes a for a ballet dancer to get ahead, and Sicily’s story is a great reminder. A beautiful love story with the right amount of key ingredients - romance, erotica, challenge, grounded reality. A strong and an eye-opening message about mercury poisoning told on the eve of the international regulation of the matter. A wonderful story!

I like how this isn't just some typical "romance with some complications" story. If there's anything predictable about this book, it's that you expect anything involving romance in the world of professional dancers to develop a dark side real fast. The basic plot of this book is, Girl falls in love with guy on the way to a dance competition, guy disappears after depositing money in a bank account with her name on it, and now the girl really, really wants to know who this mystery guy is and what's going on in his life that he'd do such a thing. Curious about the title? Without giving away any spoilers, I'll just say that the use of mercury in the gold mining industry and the damage it did to the environment and food supply is central to the plot. The author does a good job with character development, descriptions, and historical realism -- though of course it doesn't hurt that she also has a background in bio-ethics and filmmaking.

If you're like me and you love an original story with original characters then you are going to love this book. When I first began to read it I was afraid it was it was one of those books that's different just for the sake of being different. But as I continued to read I quickly realized that this story came from the author's heart (with the aid of an impressive intellect). If you approach this book with an open mind and allow yourself to become immersed in the story, you will not be disappointed.

First, in the Chasing Mercury Toxic Trilogy, this book has provided a gripping start to the series. The two main characters Forest and Sicily meet at an airport and are naturally drawn to each other due to their common interests and talents. The mystery starts as Forest deposits a large sum of money into a Swiss bank registered in Sicily’s name. Sicily then discovers Forest is missing and has no clues into his disappearance and no idea where to even start. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to reading the rest of September Williams books.

You never know what's going to happen next in this mercurial tale of lovers caught up in environmental crime. Or environmental activists caught up in love. An eye-opening story that makes you realize how full the world is of victims---and heroes. The story never lags; how could it with such a lively mind driving it? The author's intelligence shines and flows like some elemental key that unlocks new possibilities.

This was an intense story that could be labeled not so historical fiction. It was a long story with character development . Honestly it took a few chapters to become engaged . As it touched upon my background and personal interests , it was close to the heart. The writer wanted to inform her readers about a very important part of history . I anxiously await the next novels in this trilogy.

The characters were stellar: smart and relatable. Just enough humor. The walkthrough on the 1970s movements is something I've never seen. I really enjoyed that and the mercury plot.

"Chasing Mercury" is both a love story and social justice thriller. The engaging story of a young, Black ballerina/medical student and a charming Native dancer/ environmental activist captures not only the forces of work against our communities and earth, but love and lust born out of an undeniable personal connection and a common purpose. Author, September Williams, clearly draws from her medical and science background to bring issues of the environment and toxicity, and her passion as an activist, all while weaving in historical drama elements regarding the communities that represent the background of her two main characters. The result is a literary ride that keeps you reading while being informed. The fun of it is rooting for love while cheering on Sicily and Forest. "Chasing Mercury" is the first of a trilogy, with #2 said to be coming within the year- can't wait!

O-M-G this is a cure for insomnia! Reads like the most boring textbook you could ever imagine, fact, after, fact, after fact, after fact, of meaningless crap that you couldn't care less about, and constant switches from past to present. Couldn't get interested in the least.
