The Lost Light is the second book of the gripping post-apocalyptic Darkness Rising series. It should not be read as a standalone novel. It’s part of a serial and you would lose something reading this as a one-shot novel. It tells several stories simultaneously to demonstrate on a macro level what is transpiring throughout the United States via a Custom’s and Border Agent, Brandon Lui, who gets tapped to assist Homeland Security after he prevents an attack in Boston. On a micro level the reader learns of the Fraser family who were going on a long weekend at a cabin owned by Rhonda’s parents, preppers who might also be involved in the events that have turned the United States into an end of the world scenario. The story is fast-paced and filled with action. My only problem still revolves around Bruce Cavendish (the villain?) chasing the family from Colorado to Illinois, unless he is somehow involved in the conspiracy to set off suitcase nukes inside of the United States. This is first-class thriller material. Here, you only get a part of the story and hence the reader needs to continue reading to get more.

This book has some great action and, thankfully, the main family was not as whiny as in the first book. I was a little bothered at the constant trading off of Jeremiah vs Jerry rather than sticking with one. I still am not sure that a life long survivalist would waste so much time chasing this family. Some of the characters have very little development (Phil and Rhonda) but others did (Max, Brad, Winnie and Angel). I do look forward to the next book to see what happens.

Another absolutely breath holding story. The Fraser’s are trying to find their oldest daughter in all this chaos. Unfortunately the Cavendishs’ keep finding them and making their lives miserable and dangerous. Gripping.

This one was full of action and intense scenes. The Frasers are back and trying to head east to find their daughter but end up in trouble. A few situations I did not quite see coming. But I loved the action and read it in one sitting to see what crazy situations they would end up in next. Have to say I was not disappointed. As they are traveling east, Brandon was trying to unravel what was really going on and ran into trouble too that was quite a surprise. With a mix of mystery, suspense and non-stop action I thought the story was great and kept my attention until the end. I received an advance copy and love this series. So believable.

3.5 stars. The Lost Light is the second book in the Darkness Rising series. This can be read as a standalone but should not be. These are stories that build on each other and should be read in order written. There is a lot of violence, it is an apocalyptic thriller, so it might not be suitable for more sensitive readers.

The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. This is an apocalyptic thriller filled with people trying to survive in a world where things have gone crazy. This story includes a lot of twists and turns. As usual, everything is not as it seems. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Chicago

Is the next stop for this family looking for their oldest daughter. In this book characters have come and gone - good and bad. It feels like this attitude of destruction and killing could happen at anytime in our own world. People are always protesting and destroying someone else's property. We are no longer United as a country. Just killing each other and our own babies. What happened to our love of Country. We can no longer pray or even say the pledge without someone being offended. I'm not sure this is the freedom I grew up with or that my Father fought for in WW2. This review will probably offend someone and will be deleted.

An Action Filled Realistic Continuing Post Apocalyptic Saga

The Frasers, Brad, Angel, and Clancy continue on their way to St. Louis. They meet Jeremiah along the way and after a rocky greeting bond very quickly. People die in this book we wished had not died. Agent Liu sees the dark side of the bombing and suffers personal loss but is spurred to find the people responsible for the bombing and the coverup.

I read this as a box set and it was a very rewarding read. Taken as a series it was great. There was a lot of time to get to know the characters and how they fit in the overall series. I would highly recommend it to all readers.

A JB./MK. SYFY. Novel/St. Louis/ Chicago/Galveston/A ,little Change in Characters

JB./MK. have. penned the second ,SYFY. novel of the ( Lost Light - 2) with our main characters continuing towards St Louis and Brad's parents. The group encounter escaped convicts and one comes to their rescue. Our trusty federal agent travels to Galveston and advised against the weapons systems that are being placed around the country. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Really enjoying this series

As an avid reader of post apocalyptic books, I sometimes feel like a lot of them are a bit too predictable and similar. This series is a nice change, leaving me antsy for what's to come.
